How to unroot and relock phone? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Sorry if this has been asked her before, but I've done a search, and it doesn't seem to come up at least here in the AT&T S III forums.
I'm going to need to send in my phone for return, and was wondering how I might unroot and relock the bootloader on the phone. I'm hoping the process does exist, and it seems like chainfire has an app to reset the flash counter.
Thank you SO MUCH in advance.

Also wanted to mention that I've installed clockwork recovery... which I assume needs to be replaced.

Follow this guide...

and the bootloader is NOT locked on the At&t GS3 so don't worry about that.. ..hope this helps.

[Q] Root or Not [Your Opinion]

I'm of nervous about rooting my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II because if i do I'll lost my warranty. My phone has being messing up like not charging and if anything goes bad i want to be able to send it in and fix it......
I know that their is away to unroot the phone but will T-mobile know
For example, I root the phone( void my warranty) then if I unroot it will my warranty still be void
yes if u root your device flash a custom rom, you could always go back to stock.

If you Odin the factory image you'll be fine. Don't use the cwm flashable unroot method.

You don't lose your warranty unless you admit to it. If the device doesn't work then no one will know and if you are able to boot the phone you can unroot it.
t mobile wont know, I've sent in countless rooted then un rooted devices and never had a issue

Did u just get it today bud??? And what help do u need im pretty good with this stuff and dude u will be fine just unroot if u ever have to take back to tmobile. Oh and root wouldnt cause your phone to do what u described in op u will be ok
I would wait, there's really not enough out yet to take the risk. The odds are pretty high something will go wrong if you aren't experienced. I'm waiting for the pros to get the kinks worked out and some solid builds to come out, like cyanogen ICS or something. Might be a while lol, but I'll have a working phone. And this thing is pretty awesome out of the box (except for that CIQ BS and the tethering nonsense ).
Good luck !

[Q] Anyone tried rooting on Rogers?

I can't seem to find too much information on how to go about doing it. I realize the general idea is that it's usually similar to the AT&T variety, and it seems that some people may have done it already, but I'd like some more information before I do it myself.
i.e. what method to use, anything to look out for, does it flash on at&t labels/logos/branding like it did for the galaxy s captivate, etc...
Ideally, I'd like to flash a custom rom at some point, but for now I'd be happy to just have root so I could mess with certain apps I'd like to try, and get rid of the bloat ware.
You need to use the method that uses CWM and then install root from there. Make sure the root .zip file is on your sdcard, and then flash CWM with Odin without reboot selected. Once it's flashed, turn off your phone (best bet is a battery pull) and then turn it back on holding power, home and up until it boots into CWM. Once in CWM, flash the zip for root and you're golden.
This does add one to the flash counter, but it's the only way to do it with Rogers/Bell/Telus phones ATM.
So if the flash counter goes up, does that mean the warranty is void?
They could deny a warranty claim, yes. I'm not saying that they will, but it's possible.
I rooted mine and yes the counter did increment. There is a method on XDA that shows you how to stop the counter from incrementing but I didn't see it until I rooted. Check out the AT&T S3 section, I think that is where I saw it.
Edit: Here it is... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426

That method is no good to us until Rogers/Samsung release an official firmware that can then be modified by the devs to work for us on that method. Using that method as it is will result in having an att firmware which wouldn't show well when at Rogers asking for warranty service .

This method states that it doesnt effect anything to do with the firmware just roots the device. I am not sure about flash counter though. If you read the comments a rogers person has done it.

Yup, that trips the flash counter.

You can do it as long as you are ok with att branded firmware and no option to toggle lte. This will change very soon as Rogers firmware was released this morning and the devs are already working to incorporate this into this method so we can do it and end up with Rogers firmware that a store will honor the warranty on.
Edit: I looked at your link, you are referring to a different method involving installation of a custom recovery. This method will work on Rogers but will trip the flash counter. I was referring to the root only method mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426.

Root My Rogers Note 2

i am new to this forum and totally new to Android device.
This is my first Android device ever. i was using iphone before.
As i heard that rooting will give you more privilege and stuff
can you suggest me the from where i should start ??
Thanks
I just got my note 2 yesterday, been through this too. Although this is my 3rd android device. Check out YouTube, search for rooting Rogers note 2. Find the one your must comfortable with and read carefully. Most procedures will say if it's good for Rogers note 2 as well. Pay attention to details. It's a $700 phone and it will void your warranty. Think carefully before going forward. Welcome to the light!

If your talking about "s-on" that's for HTC devices, I think you're in wrong thread bro. But if trying to unroot the SPRINT S3 You just need to flash stock recovery and then let it update, it should let the update go through

If on a custom Rom it won't... If you've modified any system files it also won't go through... If you haven't done any of these, flash stock recovery (can be found with a search or by clicking the link in my Sig) and then let it update and reodin a custom recovery....

No, thats not. I suggest you do more reading because Samsung devices do NOT involve NAND locking (S-ON/S-OFF)

Actually, just an fyi the s3 on Sprint comes with the bootloader unlocked (s-off) we do have a bootloader (download mode) it just comes unlocked cuz Samsung is cool like that... so in a sense we don't have to worry about unlocking, you are correct, but only because Samsung has shipped the phones already unlocked... (of course if people keep using their warranty because they brick Sprint could change this, just saying)

Bootloader unlocked is different from NAND-unlocked (S-ON). On HTC devices you have a locked bootloader as well as S-ON, they're two completely different things

Some clarification for Matt's utilities...

Lately, I've seen some confusion concerning Matt's utilities. I'm just posting this for clarification. If you have a locked bootloader, you CANNOT revert back to 4.1.1. Please do not try, you will soft brick. If you want to revert, you need to unlock your bootloader. 4.1.2 is rootable with Motochopper, which is included in utility 1.20. You can also unlock the bootloader on 4.1.2. No, 4.1.2 will not re-lock your bootloader, if you have already unlocked it.
Also important: please charge your battery, before attempting any flash in fastboot, before any modifications, or flashing ROMs in recovery. There have also been many soft bricks that were a result of a dead battery. Last, but not least, always ask questions if you're not sure. That's what we are all here for.
Version 1.10 is if you are on 4.1.1 and have not taken the OTA update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207419
Version 1.20 is for 4.1.2 updated users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249773
Hopefully this will help to keep some people out of trouble lol and please everyone make sure the utility is for your phone not another
