I'm having trouble keeping a 4G signal with this phone. My galaxy s2 would stay on 4G in my area but this s3 is pretty much staying on a edge connection.
I know you could change the S2 to 4G only mode but I'm not seeing the option on the S3.
Any help? The 4G signal here is good. Idk why it keeps switching.

Try dialing *#*#4636#*#* then in device information set it to wcdma only.

Thanks, I tried that but it just keeps defaulting back to gsm auto. Am I missing something?
Edit: never mind I got it to stick. Thanks for your help!

There's a great app called network that takes you to that menu as well, a little more convenient than typing in that the numbers every time.
t-mobile sgs3 stock rom/rooted
That is normal. Try selecting one of the other options till it sticks.then select cdma only.

I am not in an LTE market (yet), and I'm not likely to get LTE for another 3 months at least. If I switch from CDMA/LTE to CDMA in the Mobile Networks / Network mode settings, will I be saving battery?

I have read that you can expect minor improvements. That seems to be the consensus with Galaxy Nexus anyway.

Yes, not sure how much exactly, but turning off LTE will save battery.
The Sprint Zone app gives suggestions for saving battery life, and turning off LTE is one of them.
Someone said in another thread that it didnt make any difference. So, I dunno?
What about running in automatic mode?

Not positive it was related but my phone wouldn't boot after I changed it to CDMA from CDMA/LTE.
has anyone had the issue where their phone won't connect back to 3g data?
when I reboot my phone 3g will work until wifi kicks in. after I turn wifi off 3g comes back, I can call and text but will not download any data.
I have tried Odin back to stock. wiped everything including recovery. I have tried flashing every combination of modems and kernels. all same.
however one thing I will note. I have not been able to get a successful modem flashed in Odin. it keeps failing. so I flash in twrp.
I also wiped the activation data via ##732# or something like that. had sprint reactivate my phone too..
perhaps someone could shed some light on this?

I just got my Note 2 like 5 days ago and mine does the same thing. Its very annoying and its gonna be exchanged today for that and other reasons.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
hmm. I wonder if it's network related..
is your phone stock?
-Wizzle
Okay here is the skinny. It is network related. My wife's stock s3 does the same thing. If you are in an area without lte and your phone under mobile settings is selected to lte/evdo/cdma it will connect to ephrd13. Which is enhanced 3g. When you come off wifi or a phone call sometime it will not reconnect. You can toggle data a few times and it will reconnect.
To solve this issue, under mobile settings I select evdo only setting being that I do not have lte in my area. There is no change in speed between the 2 3g networks.
This info is from self diagnosing the rooted note 2, a stock photon, and a stock s3.
I have had sprint reset the phones as well as the ##data# trick.

When I say evdo only I meant cdma only. Ehrpd13 is the handshaking 3g for lte. Some areas have lte in the towers but no ehrpd13 so the lte is not turned on yet. Basically ehrpd13 and lte are like cookies and cream lol.

When the 4g network matures as it will the 4g will get better as the 3g.
You can always go to I think s4gru.com. That site shows when and where lte will become available. Plus they will be able to help you better there than xda.
As for sprint customer service, they are laughable at best. 4 people I spoke with didn't know what ehrpd13 was lol.

Wondering if all note 2 t889 devices will see LTE service once it drops in ones specific coverage area ,my phone has the fast.t-mobile.com apn configured, My question is will the icon show LTE once it is in my area or does the 4g icon just symbolize that your merely still on hspa+

As long as you have lte network mode turned on and on fast.tmobile.com, it will automatically detect lte and show 4G with lte letters underneath.

It seems like pages would load faster if the radio was forced to stay on HSPA+ rather than going back to umts then waiting that second for it to jump back on HSPA. Anyone ever heard of a mod that makes the radio stay on HSPA network?
There's definitely a difference between the both in terms of speed. I came from Verizon and there LTE network was good but not great. I get better speeds at home on t-mobile but better at work on Verizon. There network was good at going through walls. The big difference is there LTE radio is always on forcing fast speeds out the gate. It's always on. If there was a mod to just force the radio to stay on HSPA there wouldn't be much of a difference between the both when it comes to user experience. It's not a big deal but was curious if anyone ever heard of such a thing.
Please exclude the I9505 build prop as I'm enjoying one of the international builds at this time. Again my data is good but forcing this HSPA network to stay on would definitely improve user experience. Maybe one day I will have the skills to create such a mod
Wishful thinking. Thanks community and please don't flame this thread. I'm in Q&A and it's just a thought

Yes if you look in the mobile network in settings you can change the gs4 to the second mobile network setting which is without LTE. with that setting checked it only uses HSPA. Enjoy. I use it when LTE is acting funny

If you're on a Samsung phone, type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. Open Phone information. There'll be a drop down list saying 'Set preferred network type'. You can force LTE only or WCDMA only etc there. There are other options too, depending upon the phone.
I guess T-Mobile recently updated my tower to lte in past couple weeks. I'm rocking some great speeds, but when I get a phone call it drops the lte and goes back to 4g.
It stays in 4g after I get off the phone and doesn't come back. I have restarted... gone in and out of flight mode. Nothing... when I leave the area and come back or wake up in the morning... then I get lte back again.
Any idea on this?
I'm rooted, stock, wanam, uninstalled knox and carrier iq btw.
Thanks for any assistance

You can't make phone calls on LTE yet with T-Mobile. Thats why it drops to 4g(HSPA+) which allows calls. Not sure why it would not go back to LTE, maybe a sim card problem or a phone problem. I do not have any problems with going from 4g to LTE after calls. I have wanam, no knox, and no carrier iq as well. Are you on stock rom or a moded stock rom. Have you just removed knox and carrirer iq on stock rom?
I'm stock. It could actually be a SIM card issue. I'm using the same SIM card I had from my old galaxy s. I had to cut it to fit the note. Hmmm.. I think that's as good as any place to start.
It could also just be this tower is finicky. Maybe it's not 100% up and running yet. Just wish it would lock onto lte after the call again. It's so choice having those speeds!
Thanks for the SIM suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.

Is your lte connection stronger than your 4g connection. Because even though it may be faster it always goes with the most reliable connection.
If I know I have lte I just quickly go into dialer and change it to lte only and then back to lte/wcdma and it'll stick to lte afterwards

Couldnt one simply use 4G toggle app?
I tried toggling 4G... going into and out of flight mode... taking the battery out and restarting... going into GSM only and then back to auto select.. Nothing worked.
The method I described above apparently forces LTE only mode and somehow causes it to stick on LTE after going back to Automatic.
I've been doing it all day with great success. It would be nice if it automatic went back to LTE, but in the meantime this is a solution where there wasn't one before.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
It's because they just recently updated the tower. I was having the same issue in my area. I thought it was the phone and had it replaced. I finally spoke to someone at T-Mobile who knew what they were talking about. He said that it takes them months to tweak the tower until they get the optimum signal. Once that happens, you should go back to LTE after a call.
