In the UK at the Carphone Warehouse the 1Ghz model is available for £150. I am wondering if there is any noticeable performance differences between the 101 G9 and the 101 Turbo G9?
Also, will Archos just decide to update the Turbo to Jelly Bean?

Yes there is a noticeable performance gain. The 1.5ghz model runs more fast and efficient. I recommend that one. If Archos decides to update the G9s to jelly bean, most likely they will update ALL G9s (including 1.0ghz)

Consider also that the Turbo version available now (new item, not used one) has 1 ghz RAM, while the old 1ghz G9 has only 512 MB RAM. That also is important.
Antutu Benchmark of my Archos G9 250gb Turbo (ICS 4.0.3 rel. 4.7, 1.5 ghz CPU, 1 GB RAM): 7.300, that's noticeable (Galaxy SIII: 11-14.000, Transformer Prime: 9-10.000, Galaxy Note: 7.000). Consider that with the 8/16 gb flash version you can reach a better value (the 250 gb HDD is a little bit slower and it has a negative impact on the benchmark).
I recomend you to buy the new 1.5 ghz cpu - 1 gb ram...

although watch out because there are models that are turbo models but only have 512mb ram. you have to buy one with ics sandwich listed on the box. if it doesnt have that then it is an older model and wont have the 1gb ram.
archos 101 g9 turbo 8gb - some help , please
Archos 101 G9 Turbo ( ICS )
I had a problem with USB HOST because I cannot connect anything to it.
After some unsucess on trying I went to a reformat but speeding up the situation I forget to see that the system can only be manual reinstall using a AOS file that it is on Archos site but I cannot find that file and the only link that I find was broken.
Can someone on charity mode provide me the file and some instrutions to my 2 day´s device regain life ?
Thank you, your help will be much appreciate.

1.5Ghz v 1Ghz
Hi Mr.fast
I own a 1.5Ghz / 1GB (G9 Turbo) and I am really impressed, with the performance of this sub £200 slate. No doubting the extra 512MB of RAM on the turbo version, works well with the Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 ES1.1 CPU.
So with the two extra half gigs of power and ram,its quick.
Also you might find the 1Ghz non Turbo version comes with "Honeycomb" and is upgradeable to "ICS".
However I would definitely recommend upgrading the ICS firmware (4.0.1) to (4.0.3) asap, as I found the out the box firmware very buggy, random reboots, WiFi disconnects freezing etc...
I think Archos will offer Jelly Bean, in the first or second Qtr ,2013.
Regards A.Cusack
P.S. I think this is one of the cleanest ICS roms i,ve seen, you even get the option to add the third party apps.
perhaps !
I'm guessing that the turbos are much smoother than my tablet. Even though with serdu pics blue mine is much much better.

This is the 1GB 1.5Ghz model available in 8gb and 16gb.
Have just ordered after confirming ram with them.

What did they confirm? 512Mb or 1 Gb RAM?
Thanks
They told me that the one specifically on that link comes with 1GB of RAM.
Thank you!
I have just recieved the one from the link and.. it is 512mb RAM -.-;
I have mailed them to find out what's going on.
CORRECTION:
I have just upgraded to ICS and all of a sudden the device is showing 893MB of RAM!!
How weird! If anyone wants any details or anything please ask

I'm not surprised... the kernel has to support 1GB memory layout and it came late in Gingerbread kernels. Probably not really functional.
How does feel the tablet ? Smooth ?
Do you have access to a 512M one to compare ?
I have access to the 1GHz model so comparisons are unfortunately not just with the RAM.
However I can say that the browser supports many more tabs now without having to reload the tab when switching - also has not caused any crashes yet.
The most noticeable thing is when launching a memory intensive program on the 512 model the launcher is pushed out of memory and has to be reloaded when returning. This hasn't occured for me (yet) on the 1GB model.
Other than this I can't think of any other comparisons for just the RAM. Of course the device is much more fluid thanks to the higher GPU and CPU clock, and the quadrant score is a fair bit higher.
The dual core 1.5GHz Archos is only slightly faster than the single core galaxy tab? Are you sure?
---------- Post added at 06:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:04 PM ----------
want to ask if you know the US turbo version would also get 1G RAM even if the CPU is 1.2GHz? Thanks in advance!
The Galaxy Tab has much lower blue (processor), red (memory), and yellow (graphics) score than the archos, but it has very high green (i/o) score which I think is to do with the speed of the flash storage.
U forgot to "reply me", but I saw ur post anyway... Well, I missed the color and compared the whole score, sorry about that, haha.
BTW, do you know the US turbo version also has a 1G RAM or the 512M one? Thanks!
The US turbo 1.2 GHz is 512 I'm pretty sure.
The 1.5GHz can be either 512mb or 1GB, you will have to ask wherever you want to buy it from
how about batterylife?
does anybody know if there are going to be custom roms cooked in the near futur?

is there any benefit to have 1gb ram? I can't think of anything I could possibly do to use that much ram on my tablet. does it increase overall stability or anything?
1gb really?
...are you *positive* about 1gb ram? The ARCHOS website doesn't mention it like that and from what I hear the new ones too have "only" 512mb.

if cajl says it it's probably true. besides it makes sense. all manufacturers are gonna jump on the bandwagon and make all devices with 1gb+ ram
for the 1go YES it is true - mail from Archos -

I think it's not much difference.....Into Nexus S with 512Mb RAM and only 1GHz ICS run very well almost as fluently as Motorola RAZR 1Gb RAM and with dual-core 1.2GHz

Not 1gb RAM in A80
Have just received a brand new 1.5Ghz Archos 80 G9 ref 502036 expecting 1gb RAM: system info app confirms 1.5 Ghz but only 466Mb RAM (i.e. 512Mb model).
where have you buy this model ?
Hi cajl I bought it in the UK: couldn't get it anywhere until last Friday when I got a stock notification email: now quite a few suppliers are offering it again.
Some suppliers are advertising it as 1gb but Archos on their web store do not specifiy the RAM (all with the same model number).
I have contacted Archos but honestly, the guys there do not have a clue! They have escalated my query this time however, which is, "is there a 502036 available with 1gb RAM, because my model only has 512mb".
One of the suppliers advertising it as 1gb is also following up the query for me with Archos. All they can say is that Archos notified them the new stock would be 1gb RAM but their item looks identical to mine in every way (and to the one on the Archos web-site - all the same model number of course too).
Very surprised that even with part number, model number, product ID and everything, Archos could not tell me what my RAM was: I had to download an app to find out myself.
They also insisted that unless Ice cream sandwich was pre-installed, it was not 1.5Ghz: but mine definitely is, even though it still only has Android 3.2!

Came preinstalled with honeycomb and showed only 512 RAM until I updated to ICS where it shows 1GB.
One user from this forum just had de same problem...do the update to ics and it should say 1GB...it due kernel limitations in honeycomb...
this did the trick for the guy i+m talking about...i hope

yes .. the update on ICS increase the RAM !!!!
Archos, it's a kind of magic !!!
magic indeed! Even as I read this thread, updates appear to have downloaded - but still I have 466 MB ram. Let me see if a reboot will activate the magic for me!
Is it the honeycomb update or the ice cream sandwich one?
For me, I could not update to ice cream sandwich with the tablet updater. I had to manually download the update here:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4.0.4/firmware_archos_it4.aos
Download this file, connect the tablet to your computer, copy this file over onto the tablet, the tablet should ask you if you want to install the update (if it doesn't, find and select the file in the file browser on the tablet) then let it update.
Once you have Ice Cream Sandwich running you should have your 1gb of RAM.
Unbelievable: magic indeed! Tablet has auto updated (once I realised I had to request the install) from honeycomb to ICS and now has full 1gb ram (well, 'max 892Mb anyhow')!
Why o why can't Archos put this basic information on their web-site instead of just staying absolutely silent about the RAM? Only you guys, especially calj, not even Archos customer service or tech support (not at the customer interface level anyhow) have any idea what is going on! I guess the update would have happened anyway, but some of us like to know what is going on and to be sure we have got the right product.
Thanks again to all who have correctly informed me here.
Does this also apply to the 1.2GHz Turbo models? When I updated to ICS, it didn't show the 1GB of RAM, but I'm hopeful if I downgrade to Honeycomb, then upgrade to ICS that it might "unlock" it.

No, it doesn't apply to 1.2, Archos added memory very recently and it's only available on what they called ICS models.
It's not the fimrware installation that unlocks it, it's because ICS kernel is the only one that can handle it. So downgrading/upgrading won't work, and downgrading is not possible anyway.
Got my g9 101 ICS 1.5ghz 1gb few days ago. Seems like hdmi-out is completely broken for me. Tried with the official 4.04 and the test firmware no change. Have also tried keeping hdmi connected when booting the device and still nothing. Is everyone with g9 101 ics having this same issue?
Max 890MB
Dear All,
I am new to forum. I just bought the 1.5Ghz and updated to ICS. My RAM is showing 890mb max. Please is this equivalent to 1gb ram
Hi there, i will buy a archos 101 for me. As far as i know there are three versions of the 101 right? I wonder if there are big differences between them? and how can i identify which one has the 1gb ram (between the basic version of 1ghz and the turbo version of 1.5ghz)?
Hope you can help me thanks a lot.
The only one with 1GB ram is the 1.5Ghz Turbo, it should say on the box if it is, if it doesn't only way to confirm is update it to ICS
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S
But is there a big difference between the two models? Or should i buy the cheapest one
With 1GB of RAM all is a bit smoother, especially multitasking. And I heard it is a bit better manufactured.
I would not buy the old version unless it's atleast 100€ less. Even then I'm not sure.

Humm ok ok i just dont know if i buy this tablet of there is a better solution than this one at the price asked here in Portugal turbo will cost 309€ do u think this tablet is worth it?
Do you think it would be sensible to upgrade from an Archos 80 g9 250Gb 1.2Ghz 512Ram to the new Archos 80 G9 1.5ghz?
It will cost me $80US to trade it in for the new one, that's the shipping costs. Should I just buy a new one for $315US? Or should I just stick with the one I currently have?
i have the twice
no big differences

Personally, I hope it never happens. There is absolutely nothing about 4.1 or 4.2 (other than maybe a slight increase in touch screen operation) that I can see of any real need/use.
Heck, on the Archos G9's there are really only 3 things worth moving up from the Archos 3.2.80 to 4.0.7:
1) Google added and option in the stock Android browser to "request desktop page".
2) Archos made some improvements to their HDMI output.
3) Added Xbox 360 USB controller functionality.
If it were not for those 3 things I would happily stayed back with 3.2.80. It was already a mess before Archos ever got 4.0.7 anywhere near working right (and it still had Wi-Fi connection flaw that were not there in 3.2.80)... and now, they've made a total disastrous mess with the 4.0.2x firmware releases.
Just think about how horrible things would get if they tried to release 4.1 or 4.2? Not to mention, even Google now has to fix things in 4.2 to start with even for their own flagship Nexus products. Why do so many people want the NEXT thing before anyone even gets the current thing to work correctly?
Sorry, don't mean to be rude. It's just that I do not understand the concept of wanting the next new piece of garbage that comes out before they fix the crap they already have out there?
The G9 ist unresponsive / laggy especially with only 512 MB RAM. Jelly Bean is a step forward and I want it ASAP with a lot of butter
Part of me wants to see Jelly Bean running with "butter", but then again...my device is running incredibly smooth to begin with, so why mess that up.

If Archos release Jelly Bean for the G9 devices (and I have real doubts about that happening), I think you will be very disappointed with the performance on the old outdated hardware of the G9. But first, let's look at how the Google "hype' is very similar to the "hype" Microsoft used over the years...
They both "claim" each new OS is better and faster than the previous one. I know for a fact that is not true with Microsoft Windows. Just try to install Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 on an older computer that originally came with Windows 98... it does not run faster at all (actually slower) simply because each newer OS came out on newer, better, and faster hardware in the newer computers.
Android Honeycomb came out when tablets still had slow, single core CPU's with only 256 or (if you were lucky) 512MB of system RAM.
Android Ice Cream Sandwich came out on devices that had faster dual core CPU's with 1Gig of system RAM. Even though it can run on older devices with only 512MB of RAM it runs slower on those devices than Honeycomb did.
Jelly Bean first came out on the Nexus 7 which has a quad core CPU and a 12 core graphics processor. So, even if Archos could make the "butter" stuff work on a G9 (which I doubt they can)... there is simply no way it can ever run as smooth and fast as it does on the Nexus 7 simply because the G9 hardware is no where near the same level as newer devices have now.
And, some companies are already making devices with 2Gig RAM just to be able to stay ahead of any newer Android version requirements.
The Archos 101 XS has both a newer and better CPU and graphics processor. While the even newer Archos GamePad and 80 XS have an even faster (1.6Ghz) CPU and a quad core graphics processor and come with Jelly Bean installed from the factory. And even those are still no match to the performance of the Nexus 7.

This. The Snapdragon has a much better GPU IMO. PowerVR is a bit crippled, I believe. But that's only if you're gaming heavily or using apps like Snapchat a lot (i have small issues with snapchat on my 551). Other than that I believe the Intel would do better considering the amount of development and support currently available (if it matters to you that is...). And SD cards are supported similarly in both.

PowerVR G6430 was used in iphone 5s too , and it is nearly twice faster than Adreno 405. Snap615 is ARM type, so it is better compatible with apps than Atom on Z551. Overall, i think Z551 is still a better choice
Thank you guys,
I think Intel Atom is faster, but it takes big part of ram which I saw in Ze551ml (only 300 to 400 my free) and in case of ze550kl have 3gb ram and snapdragon 6 series really knows to handle bettry life but some times it works like snail.
What to do guys!?
Pretty much ALL the reviews of the Zenfones with SD615 that I've seen have mentioned lag/stuttering and worse performance than rival devices on same chipset. On the other hand, the ZE551ML is often praised for its smooth performance. Personlly, there's nothing worse than stuttering performance. I'd take the ZE551ML over the Laser every day of the week!
Thanks @kanagawaben,
You are right Buddy but 3gb ram can't help with that.
Hello guys, I found moto g 3rd generation is good rival this competition. Should I go for that or Ze551ml is pure winner?

This is not really true. Did you grow up with a windows computer? The way Android / Linux / Mac OS handles RAM is slightly different. Usage of RAM is actually a good thing. Linux runs on mostly cache and more cache means better performance. You should not worry about launching a RAM-hungry app because it would simply release the cache and dedicate all the RAM to that app. There's really no harm in having 400mb. Even when filling your RAM, it doesn't fill 2GB at the snap of a finger! Its a gradual process.. So once that 400MB starts getting filled, more and more cache would be released to accommodate. I don't know if I got the technicalities right.. but my bottom line is don't judge performance by the amount of free RAM.
Just FYI. My 16GB RAM in the MBP is almost always full (only about 1.5 GB remaining). And right now I'm just surfing the net.

Thanks, and ya
Obviously buddy, one plus x is handsome killer but it's so difficult to buy it because of invite system.
Do you have idea to get it directly?
Or do you have any invite to share ?

Nope. I signed up for the list. Will send you one if I get extra. But they will be having flash sales from next month I believe. I might be worth the wait. Check their website. Given the price point, that phone is a beast.

Oh that is very nice of you to offer. But the op2 is a big no no for me. I hate the SD 810.

Theoretically, no. 801 is quite an old processor and is more or less on par with the latest gen 600 series... like the 617. But the 810 is a curse. It overheats! And way I use the phone, if it overheats and gets throttled, I'm more likely to smash the phone than wait for it to cool down. There are upgraded versions of the 810 which are supposedly better. But I am not taking chances and as a marketer, I know what actually goes on behind the curtains.
So anyway, 801 is comparatively much underpowered and cheaper than the 810, but at least has no performance / heating / throttling issues and I get my money's worth. The OPX is cheaper than the OP2 but its more bang per buck.

Hmm no actually. There is a 551ml with 2GB and 1.8Ghz... But I wouldn't blame you. There are so many damn variations!
FYI: I believe the 550s are all HD and 551s are all Full HD

again? The ZE551ML has only 4 GB and Intel® Atom™ Z3580
The ZE550ML has only 2 GB of ram and Intel® Atom™ Quad Core Z3560
So differents models with differents specs. The ZE551ML doesn't exists with 2 GB and Z3560. You should do a short search on asus website before saying wrong things!
