I just got a replacement from Verizon. What do I need to check to make sure I got an OK unit?
TIA!

how do you check for tint issues? do you use an app for that? whats the correct radio version? TIA

This was from another thread.
My device is using an 09 hardware revision (listed under baseband as i515.09). Some have stated that the 10 revision (i515.10) has inherent problems, whether due to poor hardware or poor construction (if true at all... I have no way to know).
Some gnex owners have a purple tint on grey colors. Please do a search for more specifics.
The best thing to do is use the phone and all of its features making sure everything works.
Make sure your 3g 4g and wifi works OK.
You should already have some sense of what to expect.

My old device was .10 and the new one too, I guess I will have the same problems will see. I noticed the new phone has -83db and the new phone has -75db will see when I get home.
On a side note im trying to restore the old phone back to stock and all I can say is Samsung drivers are a royal pain in my A**... 2 hours and still troubleshooting... =/

Isc on the way!

I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. He said last night around 3 am he got an update for ice cream sandwhich, and its real. He doesn't hack his phone or anything. So just wait a little bit and its coming out. I can tell you that it doesn't have face recognition, but its alot faster than the gingerbread that was on there.
Pictures or it didn't happen. Just kidding. That's great news. Happen to remember the build number. Just wondering because the first update might not contain face recognition.

Was there like a date he had in mind? Like early next year or late this month?
EDIT: I think its suppose to be ICS by the way man.

Plus you have the wrong ICS! So a troll pointing out a troll.
Looks like there is some truth to this based on some google searching for the past 24 hours:

I want to get excited too. Should our excitement be tempered by the fact that our device is a modified version of the GS2? The hardware is very different from the regular GSII from what I understand. Can't that cause delays?
Everyone called me a troll when I said I was going to get pushed an update early a few weeks ago, hopefully it is true, we will see. With the maintenance release just coming out though, I find it hard to believe ICS is just around the corner. Two otas in such a short period does not make much sense.

Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

The hardware is identical to the international and att Gs2 except for the radios. Its easier said than done to convert it to CDMA without samsungs source code.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

Isn't the latest OTA dealing with the LOS and some other issues? I'd assume they can't really wait until the ICS and leave customers hanging that much longer with all the backlash.

This update date may be the one that allows the device to be updated to ICS. Im sure one of the Delvs will dig into the files to see the differences(other than CIQ)

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.
The LED is as simple as a kernel that supports it and a rom that uses it.

[Q] Should I buy a Galaxy Nexus? Coming from SGSII Exynos

So it's been a couple of months since the Galaxy Nexus came out so I think I'll get better information now as opposed to when it first came out.
I have an AT&T GSII and I love it. I have the ICScrewd rom on it and it's very fast and fluid and I also have a 16GB card to bring my total storage space to 32GB which is nice since I have a lot of pictures on my device. The screen isn't 720p and that's something I'd love to have and I'd also love to have ICS.
I'd have to sell my GSII for hopefully $350 and I'd also sell a Captivate I have (it's cracked but still works fine so I'd sell it for maybe $60-$80) and pay the difference for a GN (probably $140 out of pocket).
What would you all suggest based on your experience with the GN and GSII (Exynos) if you had it?
The experience is still the same as day one. Very fast and quick phone, so no the information you get from those other threads compared to this one won't be much.
No regrets using the GN, came from Nexus S and Galaxy S (Vibrant) before that.
Do it.
You won't regret it.

Never used a iPhone 4 so I wouldn't know how to compare it.
I haven't gotten a scratch on it. No screen protector, just Otterbox Commuter + Extended GSM battery.
The screen itself is fortified, some people have complained that it isn't good blah blah blah. From my own experience, it's fine for me. Gorilla glass is not immune to scratches either. Just marketed better I guess.
I just ordered a GN from Amazon for Verizon and should have it next Tuesday. I am coming from the Epic 4G Touch (SGS2) from Sprint which is using the same processor at AT&T's. I am also curious if anyone has made the jump from this phone and how there experience has been.
I am looking forward to the GN and just hope it does not disappoint. Really looking forward to running ICS as well. Was never really that excited to run a stock Android device until now...

I never had the SGSII but I would assume the GN would just be like a sidegrade for you. I wouldn't get the GN if I already had a SGSII. Other than that the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone that I've ever had, coming from the Nexus One

That's the same thing I said when coming from Vibrant to Nexus S. I don't regret getting the NS either and you GS2 switchers most likely wouldn't either.
I'm in the exact same boat as the OP, sort of. I'm with Sprint and I've got the Epic 4G touch (SGSII with a stupid name). Anyway, my line is due for an upgrade in April (JOY) and I'm debating whether I should get the nexus. I've always been curious and kinda wanted a pure google phone. I love modding, flashing custom roms, tweaking, theming, etc. There is a VERY experimental CM9 rom available for my device but its not a daily driver. I flashed it though, just to check it out and I have fallen in love with ics, plain.
I guess my main question is: Considering the Verizon is also CDMA, will the custom roms and rooting methods available for the Verizon version work on the Sprint version? If not, I'd imagine there would still be plenty of development for the Sprint version, right?
To be honest, there are some nice roms for the Epic 4G touch but overall, I've owned other devices where the development seemed much stronger. I want a device that a LOT of developers will work on.
Any opinions, suggestions, advice? Also, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I've also got my eye on the possibility of Sprint getting the Galaxy Note.

Verizon CDMA will not work for Sprint. Only Verizon. Sprint is getting their own version of the Galaxy Nexus but it's unknown when it will be getting it officially but it will probably be soon.
Another thing to add, when purchasing Galaxy Nexus.. make sure you get it from a reputable seller that is willing to fulfill the warranty because you are not covered by Samsung (at least the GSM version).

I AM talking about the one sprint's getting. I'm not gonna try to buy a Verizon one and connect it on sprint. That would never work. My question is: do u think the custom roms developed for the Verizon version will work on the sprint version since they're both cdma?

Will have to wait for the Sprint version to come out to answer you on that. The rooting method will definitely be the same
1. Get Fastboot drivers
2. fastboot oem unlock
latest version of ICS (4.04) is awsome
I was already happy I got GN, but the latest version is great - battery life is substantial. Get it

I don't see why not. It's a Nexus device, and many ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus are cross-compatible (not in the same package.... but both GSM & LTE)
at most, the radio/basebands will be different.
Kernel flashable zips are cross compatible.
I'm on the same boat, trying to figure out if I should switch to sprint when the GN comes out (better plan purposes) but hoping the sprint version will get as much love from the developers as the Verizon version.
Just wondering ....... what kind of plan do ya have on Verizon?

My 32GB iPhone 4S has not been used as much since getting my Galaxy Nexus. I really like my HTC Rezound but I think I may like my Nexus more. None of my HTC Rezound's would have the mobile hotspot work for over ten minutes before dropping the data connection. My GN has not dropped its data connection while using the mobile hotspot yet. (Being that I'm allowed unlimited data on my SMARTPHONE I pay to connect to other devices)

I just switched from the GS2 Exynos to the gsm nexus three days ago, and believe it's worth it. The user experience is a whole different and ICS is just so good. And the screen resolution is awesome, reading on my phone has never been such a pleasure. Just get it and see for yourself

[USA][GSM] The "OMG I just got my USA GN" thread

I figured a thread like this may be useful as people will probably end up posting things like this in the Google Play announcement thread.
Mods: Use your discretion if you disagree with this thread.
So Mr. What Can Brown Do For You person just came and dropped off my GN. I didn't open the box yet. I noticed that the return address is NOT Google:
Return phone/address:
(855) 836-3987
UPS-SCS GA
BLDG 1 DOOR 54

LOUISVILLE KY 40219
Anyway, can I answer any GN questions for anyone? I'll be happy to turn it on, take photos, etc. if people are wondering if the shipped ROM matches info given out by Google, radio info, etc.
Put it on your head and take a picture.

Well I didn't want to switch to Verizon to get a Nexus phone when I was happy with my Nexus S. If you're saying that there was a thread like this already for new USA owners, I apologize. I figured the forums would be filled with these kinds of threads and I didn't notice any right off the bat.
Does this have different radios than what we currently have?

ahh, to lazy to update... half a sleep, rolled out of bed to pickup phone from ups, ate some wendys and charging this thing... 2 things i noticed

2. a samsung that charges fast? (checks pulse)
sigh btw im stuck rooting my g/f droid 2 global fun... :: thinks locked bootloaders r evil ::: :: looks at sbf files, thinks about taking a nap::
I'm going to cry... I finally got a Galaxy Nexus that does not have a purple tint a lower brightness levels. My dark grays are actually dark grays! This is my fourth and I believe should be my last Galaxy Nexus.
GNEX in the hizzy!
Got mine about two hours ago.
Running off my works wifi for now....Can't wait to go get some service after work but the question is ATT or T-Mo?? I'm not sure yet..in my area they both have good coverage.
Anyway, first GNex and no purple tints no visibly bad screen. Compared to my old GS2-E4GT the GNex blows it away. Looks better than my co-workers IP4 screen in comparison also.
Maybe my eyes are getting old(30), because just 5 months ago the Atrix 4G pentile screen was enough to drive me away and sell the phone. After reading all the awful stories and how obvious the pentile is...I am relieved and I can't even tell honestly.
So far the 4.0.x experience on my phone is great, already have a TP so 4.0 wasn't new entirely...but wow big step up on the phone!
I'll use it for a few weeks while deciding which rom to start with
Anyway phone info:

Go prepaid. If you don't talk much, T-Mobile. If you do, Straight Talk's at&t SIM. (YMMV with coverage in your particular location, of course)

Hush, the "pentile is eeevul" crowd might hear you.
Been busy getting settings back the way they are on my Nexus S. Can someone please link me to that screen pictures thread that has the OK/NOT OK red stamps on them? I remember seeing it somewhere, and I want to see how my screen stacks up. Having the GN side by side to the Nexus S, the screen is waaay darker on full brightness than it is on the Nexus S. (Nexus S 100% bright is BLINDING) I'm also noticing that the GN is a warmer color than the Nexus S and shows more color change. (compared to the Nexus S, which has none IMHO) Thank you!

plus you are covered by ebay and paypal anyway if the product you bought does not match the description you bought it as or anything wrong with it..ebay always favors the buyer more than the seller so you should be covered by them to if you get any issues with the phone

Is yours the international Teg3 version or the AT&T S4 version? Assuming its Teg3, the warranty varies based on the country the phone was originally sold in. Its two years for the UK and the EU. For unlocked phones, I'd imagine HTC would ask for some sort of proof of purchase. Samsung did when I needed my i9100 repaired in the UK. Some people have actually gotten HTC US to service their international phone which is something Samsung would never do.
As for things to look for I'd guess you've already checked the build quality and the display. There have been some QC issues; especially on early devices. A small percentage of phones have a Wi-Fi h/w fault so you'll want to make sure you're getting a Wi-Fi signal at least as good as you're i9100. Mine's actually better so yours should be to. Other routine things to check are the cell signal, BT, GPS, audio output via the headphone jack, etc. Also make sure it has the latest update (.11 assuming it's a UK/EU device) if you're going to run the stock ROM.
I came from a i9100 and can answer any "how do I?" questions you might have. The One X is a fantastic phone and does everything better than the i9100 ever did. There's also a massive update coming soon that moves the phone to 4.0.4 and hopefully a 3.X kernel. Initial reports are better benchmarks, battery life, and a bunch of UI fixes.
i don't think there would be or is anything wrong but just wanted to check any common problems other users may also have experienced so i can check those particular things.
I paid £240 for the phone fully boxed...is that a decent deal...it's black/grey?

Is yours the international Teg3 version or the AT&T S4 version? Assuming its Teg3, the warranty varies based on the country the phone was originally sold in. Its two years for the UK and the EU. For unlocked phones, I'd imagine HTC would ask for some sort of proof of purchase. Samsung did when I needed my i9100 repaired in the UK. Thanks for a very detailed and useful post...I'm in the UK and was told the phone is unlocked...can't really tell what processor it is as it only says quad core in the about box!

It's a Teg3 international phone then. Go to the market and get "CIC check." It's for HTC phones and will tell you the CIC of your phone. That'll tell what market the phone was originally intended to be sold in. Post your CIC and someone will tell you where it's from.

Just downloaded the app...there are references to HTC Europe and UK mobile networks such as Vodafone Tesco gifgaff etc and there are also references to tegra but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for and where abouts it's shown on screen?

New Version?

I've got a replacement Dinc2 coming tomorrow, having signal drop and slow speed issues (dropped calls, 1x flashing alot, 1 bar) in my blood red coverage area no matter what radio I use. And the 30 people with verizon phones I work with aren't having problems.
Anyway, they told me this new one coming has a different SKU, still a Dinc2 supposedly but the SKU is updated something is different. He said it could be ICS, but that he was purely speculating. Either way, its possible this could be the same Dinc2 with the 6.01.605.05 Software version on it or something new.
Just a heads up to everyone, I'll report in after I get it tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up, but what does this have to do with development?
This is better suited for the "general" section of the forum.

Yeah I will. That's why I put it in the development forum. If it needs to be moved that's fine. I'm not going to hold my breath but the sensation did just get ics so it's possible.
Speculating ICS? More like talking about of his ass most likely.
Keep us informed, but it's probably just the latest GB.

Most likely it is only gb, but the inc s is getting the ics ota (not sure exactly when, but I've seen chatter that It's already started rolling out), so you never know..
