I have read a little about changing roms on dinc2 and it all confuses me. Some people say use 98boot some say don't. My ultimate goal is to get my dinc2 running ics and to be unlocked so I can use the gsm side with any carrier. Can someone post a step by step with the tools needed please.

Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

It came with it preinstalled I read that much and when I saw that got a little frustrated

first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

All the different versions of the Play, and it's availability across the globe is making things very confusing for me to figure out. Can someone please give me some straight answers to the following questions? (And, yes, I -did- try to read the threads, but I'm not getting it.)
First, my relevant stats:
Wireless Provider: Verizon
Location: US
Phone: Xperia Play
Model: R800x
Network type: CDMA
Bootloader: Locked
Rooted: Yes
Custom Recovery: CWM installed to the \System
Questions:
1. If I have my bootloader unlocked, what ROMS will work properly with the US Verizon network?
2. Again, assuming the above, which kernel(s) should be used?
3. Once more, assuming the above, how is the functionality of the Gamepad affected? (Obviously, it needs to work to make any sense of having the phone unlocked and loading a Custom ROM.)
Maybe I'm making this harder than it needs to be. But, it seems to me that the R800x is such a different beast from all the other models of the Play that it would almost make sense to have its own sub-forum.
Please note my prior Android experience has been with the LG Ally and the LG Vortex. No bootloaders, no multiple models with different rules based on the country of origin, just straight-forward simple configurations. The rules were simple: Root, install Custom Recovery, make a Nandroid, install your choice of Custom ROMs and enjoy. So you can see why this environment is so perplexing to me.
Thank you in advance for clarifying my options. I'm sure with all the knowledgeable folks here, I'll soon be rocking a new configuration.

the title of the rom will say cdma in it if the rom/kernel work on the r800x
as far as functionality goes the stock roms aka not cm7 or ics they work perfect, cm7 is hit and miss with the game pad some games work some dont (i think most work though.) as far as ics its not made for our phone might never be.
Thanks for that info. Just want to make sure it's worth doing.

He means the R800x. Verizon may not give us ICS. We're still stuck on 2.3.3.

Not for R800x which is CDMA. See why it's so confusing?

Hey there everybody.
I'm thinking of jumping to a verizon xperia play and i'm trying to figure out how i'd root it and get to the point where i can flash custom roms.
I think the Flash Tool is what i want, but i cant find any detailed explanation of what it does and how to use it (i'm a big fan of reading up) on either its thread here, the x10 thread, or its website. I think it might be so ubiquitous here that i'm out of my element coming from sprint/samsung land. Help a brother out?

If do get it there are something you should know.
Root is easy, check the link named zergRush in my signature.
To load a custom rom (that doesn't require a new kernel) you need to install CWM, and there is an app available in the market for it (CWM for Xperia, or something like that)
If you want a rom that requires a custom kernel (i.e. cm7 is all that we have right now) then you need to pay ($24) to unlock the bootloader to install a custom rom
Flashtool is a combination of two programs, it can be used in fastboot mode (to load a custom kernel (i think, i've only used it for the other usage I'll talk about now)
Otherwise it can be used to flash a ftf file (a copy of the update) to bring your phone to stock.

Thanks very much. Sounds simple enough. I have another question now: how about tethering? i realize i'll have a data cap to contend with, but if i need that option, how does it work on the play?

CM 7 has it built in. on stock, your only option is a 3rd party program (without a tethering plan, of course)

well i recently got a g2. it is currently unlocked but i want to get it rooted too. will the rooting affect the status of it being unlocked? it is tmobile branded so i am guessing it will unlocked by typing in a special code? thanks. also how can i root the phone? just send me a link. i am experienced in rooting as i have a rooted epic 4g and also my girlfriend galaxy 2.
No rooting and unlocking are two seperate things and don't affect one another. Not @ a computer so just google the link try "htc g2 root wiki" will be one of the first hits I'm sure. Read first make sure you understand, having said that its safe and easy

Hey all,
I wanted to know if anyone running on SGS3 by AT&T has tried the script from zep called V6 Supercharger. I prefer to work with someone to get this over on our phones and test and try to improve deployment on AOKP ROMS I seen a few I9300 international users have but none from our group. I want to put together a guide for installation but want to factor past experience into the don't do section.
If someone would like to work with me in developing an install procedure I would appreciate it I read and hear its one good tweak to say the least.
Let me know.
Thanks
JK

hey man have you looked on zeps thread? so much info there it should tell you how to install it. i used it on my atrix from day one of root and roming and loved it. i havent messed with my s3 yet at all, but when i get tired of stock i will try it out
Do you have an AT&T SGS3?
You need to unlock root and flash AOKP its already fast I'm just greedy and want liquid smooth and hope zeps script will do that.

It's not a huge difference. It's much more apparent on older or low end phones.
