EDIT: THIS IS NOT ACCURATE! If YOU use this process to repair phone make sure to choose your correct model. Sorry, apparently the rep I spoke with was a bit overzealous about me returning the phone, or was mistaken. NO ICS yet. it merely restores gingerbread. It was neither confirmed nor denied to hit in November.
Dear Adam,
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia™ Online Support.
To unlock your phone from the Pattern Lock, please follow the steps below:
Download PC Companion
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer. Run the Software.
1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9.
2. In the welcome screen if asked click on Start, next you will be shown what Media Go offers, click on "next" then you will see a presentation on what Support Zone offers, click on "Finish".
3. In the next section from "Support Zone” and "Media Go" new select “Support Zone" and click on start.
4. On the next page select "Software Update" and click on "Start".
***At this point if you get an error stating that "unable to install update components" or "server is busy”, please proceed to step 12.
5. The program will say that there is no phone connected and will ask you to connect but disregard that and instead choose the option to "Repair Phone". (The program will issue you a warning on the content that you will lose during the update). Please be aware that any data saved only in your phone memory will be erased as part of the Phone Repair.
6. Choose Continue.
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (several minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose the X10 from the list (close to the bottom of the list) by clicking on the icon for the phone. Then click on "Next". Then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (Don't connect it yet!).
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC but not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the back key (the one on the lower right part of the screen that has the icon of an arrow pointing to the left on top) Connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the back key until the program says "The update of your phone has started..." (In some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "The update of your phone has started..." is shown.).
10. If the steps were not followed exactly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar". If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
11. If PC Companion proceeds correctly with the update it will tell you to release the back key. Wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on the screen.
12. If you receive the message: “Unable to install update components".
a. Close PC Companion.
b. Install Java
c. Start Pc companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more

Apparently these are the instructions to update to ICS, directly from Xperia support. I managed to brick my phone having it plugged in before step 9. I am currently waiting on a callback for a walkthrough of the process from the same rep. He has the LT28at and ICS already. He told me he was having me update to ICS when I told him I was just going to return the phone and wait for an ICS release device. ICS on the LT28at is available through sony, just not at&t yet. Hope this helps everyone who was as frustrated as I am with battery life and many other UI issues.
Well let us know if you get ICS on yours I think you may brick yours because you chose X10
Will do. still waiting on the callback. All I know is those were the instructions he sent me. I will post the results for sure. He should be calling in about an hour or so. I'll try to post the results before I go out tonight.
If he said it worked for him I'm down to go home and try it out..
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
Just spoke with another rep. The previous rep was mistaken about the public availablility of ICS, while sony employees are allowed to have ICS on the Ion. Consumers are not. Sorry for the mistake. Easy to get excited about this stuff.
What was the solution they gave u for ur pretty brick?
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
Hmm maybe I'll try this when I get home from work.
DON'T DO IT. I verified from another sony rep it would have bricked the other one. As for the first brick, they replaced it. Free of charge. But they had verified he gave me bad instructions. And the phone had a bad processor, only had it for 3 days, couldn't even charge it while the phone was on at all.
Has anyone else had issues charging their Ion when it is on? Both of mine would drain when charging even if it was powered on screen off.
Mine seem to take a while to charge up. In an hour, it only reaches ~30-40%. Maybe defective? This is both from my pc and from a power outlet.
I am currently using AnTuTu battery saver. which "seems" to be working, though I haven't verified that yet. It also seems that with every charge it holds a bit more juice. Likely due to it being Lithium Polymer as opposed to Lithium Ion. I can see that with ICS the phone has alot of potential. Does your Camera Quick Launch work though? Additionally alot of videos are displayed improperly, operating as if it were displaying HDMI, most of the image stretched or off screen.

Hi everyone... as i'm pretty much stuck with my device... i'm gathering all the information we have found on the hotkeys.
Yeah, i'm so bored to try random key combination...
And yeah (2) there are some new key combs... (ha!).Anyone brave enough can help booting with the remaining keys hold.
Tested keys (pair): q , w, r, m, b
Enter APX mode (Nvidia flash)
Hold U+S+B+ Power
Prints nothing, enters APX mode
Enter Ms Pink Bootstrap mode (aka SBL mode)
Hold L+S+ Power
Prints nothing, enters SBL mode
Clear Storage memory (reset phone)
Hold C+B+ Power
Prints a Phone image (and reboots)
Unknown, possibly downgrade the phone to original OS
Hold R+B+ Power
Prints a "reboot" arrow (and reboots)
Was reading up on Fuses, Lock Bits, and idenitified the Samsung moviNAND 8GB is part "KLM8G4DEDD-B101". Using the Samsung's Decoder pdf, found "S3C49VDX01 Controller" so did a google search and found this website

There's a few modes on that galaxy phone. The button combinations probably won't work but if you are bored, try them out.
Not so bored but, they dont work. This mobile is a PITA wherever you look at it.
I did the "R+B+power" on my KIN TWOm and i got the reboot screen, then i got a screen saying "Updating modem Please do not remove battery." i got scared and took out the battery. then when i put it back it it said the updating modem thing again and i just let it sit, it finished rebooted then asked me to set up my phone and it was asking me for my windows live email, but it wasnt working so i click setup later. I had the kin studio on my KIM TWOm of course it didnt work but this might help someway.
Interesting, maybe it's a kind of restore hotkey (who knows hehe).
My problem is that it doesnt work removing the battery (removing for a little time) or letting it update (i left it about 2-3 hours updating and autoresetting till the battery died).
Maybe you could connect to verizon and get the OTA update.
If you didnt have the Loop (for kin studio) before, it just mean, as expected, that the kin twom is just a kin two with a software update removing loop and restore-able with this hotkey.
I do not recommend its use though
I now have the original KIN software on my phone using this method. Irritating that it will not sync with my hotmail, most likely because of no cloud server connection. I have lost all of my contacts.(thank god for the facebook phonebook) The spot is convenient. I find it interesting that the phone still retains the original OS.
If the original software is back, can't you use Microsoft Exchange Active Sync to synchronize contacts? Have you lost other stuff, like Zune music, etc?
I have a couple of questions:
Since you now how the original OS on the phone ...
How does it show up on the Verizon network? Is it still being seen as a Kin Twom or the original Kin Two that required data?
Is the Wifi and built in Facebook app working correctly?
Can you forward video through MMS using the Kin Stop?
I just wish there was a way to get some direction from Conflipper. It really did look like he found a way to get deeper into the original OS, even though he said he hadn't found a way to dump the ROM.

Not quite sure of the first question.
The wifi works but the loop does not because I can not finish set up, when trying to sync with my hotmail it displays a message that it cannot connect to windows live.
Yes the Kin Spot works wonderful.
I'd like to add that videos do not work.
Feed Reader will not refresh my feeds.
OTA update does not work almost everything requires a connection to the KIN server that does not exist anymore.
Rebooting Kin ONEm
Update on R+B+Power Button.
1. I performed this on a KIN ONEm, NOT a KIN two. I recommend that the forms be combined as efforts to hack both devices are very similar.
2. To answer a previous question: NO, ACTIVE SYNC DOES NOT WORK WHEN LOADING THE OLD KIN ONE SOFTWARE. HOWEVER, it does not seem to work because an error message pops up and says:
----------------------------------------
NO DATA PLAN
Your plan doesn't support Exchange sync.
----------------------------------------
SO: for people who want it, I would be interested in knowing if anyone with a KIN ONEm does the software reset and then asks Verizon for the plan. It could possibly work.
3. A DISCOVERY: pressing the R+B+Power a second time on boot kicks the software back to the "m" (as in ONEm) mode. I don't know if it's the same for the TWOm... but I bet it is. In any case, if you want to play with the original software, there seems to be a way to get back easily. FYI: It took me a couple times to do it right... and there is a pause before you get the updating modem screen and after you see the return arrow symbol. Be patient and try a couple times.
4. FACEBOOK and TWITTER and WINDOWS LIVE all do not seem to work either, giving various messages about "try again later" or "cannot connect." I wonder why. I expected the facebook address book to work re: an earlier post. I could not get it to work.
FYI: I decided to keep the "m" software as the studio does not exist anymore. For all of us too cheap to buy the data plan, I guess we don't have a big excuse to be too cheap to go to the verizon store to get our contacts synced up once in a while. To do this, I bitpimed my contacts to my old phone and then brought the old phone in. If anyone can figure out how to renable active sync or simply upload contacts - great, but until then, I may have to switch back to my old phone.
Thanks for the info posted above. It's good to know that this hotkey lets you switch and switch back to the old version (well, "m" version).
The only thing i dont like is the "update modem" (or OTA update) need, cause it probably means that you depend on verizon to get things done (like B+R+Power + get OTA).
R+B+power doesnt work on my phone?
When i try the button combination it just brings up the normal message of "Turn off? your phone will turn off now" It doesn't reboot like everyone says it should? one thing i should add is this phone a little different from the first kin twom, i'm not sure how but when i went to verizon to get a warrenty replacement the lady said "we need to send you a kin twom..two" confused i said "this is the second version?" she said "no its newer.. it's hard to explain" the only difference i can tell so far is that on model number there is no longer a hand stamped M after it. It's printed on the sticker. so maybe i'm stuck with an even more locked down phone?

You have to turn your phone off and then turn it on using the button combination to reboot.

Hey I'm wondering if you lost your contacts when you booted back into the kin "m" mode. When you went into the original software, you lost your contacts. Now when you booted back into "m" mode, did you lose your contacts as well? Also, did you lose anything else? I want to test this with my kin twom but at the same time, I don't want to lose everything I have. Thanks

It should have given you the original kin software?
I guess that doing it just for fun is kinda stupid.
Be ready to lost everything and/or **** the phone testing random things. You were advised.

I've gotten the same error. It didn't give me the original Kin software. It simply did a hard reset and deleted everything off of the device. It showed the arrow however, afterwards it simply booted up into Kin. Nothing came up hat said upgrading or anything. Could there be a KinTwoM - 2 that doesn't even come with the original Kin Two software? If it'd help I'll post a video on what happens.

It is possible, I've heard of a second generation kin twom. So maybe you have the unfortunate problem of having one, which may exclude you from future hacks.
Well R-B-Power works.....but you lose everything
So curiosity got the best of me last night and I tried the r-b-power method to update the modem and then boot into the original kin os with the kin spot and everything. The only down side is that I lost everything on my phone. Which really, other than a few photos (and the pain of having to add all my contacts again) really isn't that bad. By the way, my Kin is the Kin TWOm with a hand-stamped "m" underneath the battery, so I guess it would be called "first gen Kin twom". It booted back to the normal kin os after I did r-b-power and my phone was still activated. So anyone with a 1st gen Kin twom can try this, just be warned that you lose EVERYTHING.
If you dont already know you can get to a secret menu on your KIN TWOm or KIN TWO by typping in ##programmitt. Well I have done some poking around with it and I found this:
Repro steps:
RilRadioSoftwareVersion: v0.4.727
CloudConnectivityServiceServerName: 310_04_si.ct.pmese.com
ClientBuildNumber: 01.00.4704.0000
This is the basic codex for error reporting. I thought this looked promising so I went deeper and Im still poking around. Ill keep you posted. I think this might have some potential for a way into the software itself. If you want to know how I got there Ill tell you:
1. Dial ##programmitt into your phone app
2. Enter:000000 into the 6-digit pin lock. Then press ok.
3.Press OTHER
4.Go to logging level.
5.Scroll down to the bottom. Then press ok.
6.The turn on Alt+Shift+Y
7. Go to your apps screen and hold down the green button+Shift+Y
8. It will say uploding logging files. It will take some time so be patient. You can turn off your phone if you want to abort this will not cause software amadge.
9.Follow the steps given on your screen.
Ok guys I have another developement for you. The USB drivers under OTHER can be used when your phone is connected through to your computer I am going to attempt a triple primary bypass and see if I cant get us inside the software or at least the service menu. Also if you guys have any ideas let me know. Ill keep you posted.
I got a new discovery: Earth is almost round and blue.
You went 1 year late. KKthxbye
This proves how much people reads the forum...... sigh.
I hope the next post is not about how to use the UsbSerialClass mode with some Qualcomm drivers which.. oh sh#t!!, is on the stickied with 21k+ visits above!
Long story short I got a new ATT branded phone about 2 months ago. I decided to open it yesterday and treat it like a PMP. The reason I cannot use it like a phone is that I'm on the Tmobile network, so I will need to unlock it in the near future.
After a full charge the batter says that it will last for 1 day and 17 hours. <----- This is normal?
For some reason all the Nokia apps are not installed on the phone. I went to the market place on my phone, and typed Nokia, and nothing officially by Nokia shows up. I went to Nokia's website on my phone, to download the "Nokia Drive" pack, and it says my phone is not a Nokia phone.
What gives? How do I fix this problem? Hopefully I can use the map pack because my gps is dying .
Did you update to Tango using the cabs provided on this site ???? if so you need to do a refurbish with the stock firmware. I had this happen to me but only after I upgraded to tango.

Your battery will learn your usage and adjust accordingly.. My HTC Surround w/o SIM and WIFi always on, lasts about 3 days. But that battery is only 1230mAh vs. 1930mAh.
No apps are installed by default. You open Marketplace on your phone and Nokia will be listed as an app option. You can go to the Nokia app hub from there.

Thanks for the quick reply!
The first time I unsealed the box, I immediately connected it to the outlet to charge full. After the charge I turned on the phone and could not find the Nokia apps.
I then connected it to my computer to update the firmware, but after the update I was still unable to find or download the Nokia apps.
I do not know what "cabs" means but I did not update the firmware through this website, but through the Zune software.
My firmware is still Windows 7.5 OS version 7.10.8112.7

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned about the battery because my friend's HTC Titan 2 which she got the same time as me can last 6 or 7 days on a full charge, and it states that in the battery saver screen. I just wanted to be sure that Nokia Lumia 900's battery life is aroun 1 or 2 days after a full charge.
I previously had a Lumia 710, and the software is automatically installed with the phone, and from investigation, the Nokia apps are supposed to be on the phone without you having to download it. Aside from that, the marketplace/Nokia does not recognize my Lumia 900 as a Nokia phone thus my inability to download the programs.
I am also missing the Nokia app hub which was present in the Lumia 710.
If you go into the Marketplace and you cannot see "Nokia collection" listed as the first option then you need to force the marketplace to refresh. Easiest way to do this is to make sure you are signed in to your Windows Live account on the phone and then open the Xbox app. Let the app refresh its own list and then exit out to the home screen. Now if you load up the marketplace you will see "Nokia collection" as the first option in the list.
Note if that does not work, you might need to restart the phone after letting the Xbox app do its thing (most of the time it works right away though). If you get no joy after this then its possible the ROM is not stock or has had alterations done to it.

It worked! Thank you very much!
For a moment there I thought I ended up with a faulty phone and that I would have no way of exchanging it for another one or I'd have to prepare for a confrontation with the Microsoft store . hahaha.
Can I also get information on what your phone says for remaining battery life in the battery saver options under settings? I just want to verify that after a full charge, the phone says it has approximately 1 day 23 hours (more or less) remaining.
To be honest I've never looked in the battery saver menu after charging the 900 (I'm not really one of those guys that cares exactly how much battery I have, the rough indication from the battery icon at the top is enough for me). I'll need to charge my phone overnight tonight so I'll let you know what mine says in the morning.

That... that is the oddest fix ever. Thank you.
So I regularly checked for a firmware update in the Settings - General - About. And starting maybe two days ago it went from telling me my device was up to date, to telling me that the quota was over and I could try again later or try KIES.
Tomorrow never comes.
So I tried KIES. On the Macintosh, which is mostly where I live.
KIES installs. The SM-T320 is seen by AFT (when enabled), and KIES sees it in the sense that it knows something it cares about is connected... it tells me "Connecting...". Forever.
Removing AFT, reinstalling drivers, rebooting tablet, nothing solved this.
So, when in doubt, try Windows. Windows is that obnoxious, often slightly drunk friend with the muscle-T-shirts, too much B.O. (body odor for non-Merkins) and a swagger... that crass and unsophisticated guy that you've always kept in touch with, and who is reliable... if unsavory... in many situations.
Anyhow, so log back into Samsung/KIES, but this time on Windows, and install the latest....
Freshly installed off the website, KIES started right up. And told me there's an update available. Like, seriously?! I just downloaded you! The update has today (05-13) as part of the announcement, though the version (I later determined) is apparently 3.2.14034_17. Funny it wasn't on the site.
No problem. (Or, as your crass, unsophisticated Windows box with a bad mullet might say, "No Problemo".) Let it update itself. This didn't take long. Maybe 30 seconds.
And then, when prompted, I connected the SM-T320 to the Windows box running the new KIES and did get the firmware update notice:
A new firmware version is available. Upgrading may improve the performance of `GALAXY Tab PRO(SM-T320)'. Do you want to upgrade?
Current firmware version : PDA:NAI / CSC:NAI (XAR)
Latest firmware version : PDA:ND3 / CSC:ND3 (XAR)
This lead to a dialog that I need to install the USB driver before updating the connection... and need to disconnect the device for that.
For those of you keeping score, we have now struggled with the Mac version, surrendered, installed the Windows version from the website, installed the mandatory optional update to the newest Windows version (from G_d knows where), and now are being told our driver is out-of-date... all in 20 minutes!
The driver download-and-update install took maybe 20 seconds.
Plugging the SM-T320 back in resulted in the same update message again... new firmware yada yada yada. And the option to install this new firmware.
Selecting "Yes" resulted in a FAKE spinner over a greyed dialog. In other words, not the normal hazed-over dialog with a pea-sized spinner, but like actual dark-grey filtering over a dime-sized graphic pretending to be a spinner. Who the zark programmed this? Did this really seem like a good idea? Just give us an hour-glass and be done with it!
This grey screen lasted a long time. Well, probably a minute, by which I mean, like, sixty seconds and not the kind of minute that today's teenagers have within 45 milliseconds. And then it popped up... and consent box.
Are you still counting reinstalls and acceptances?
This box has a rationally-sized license agreement (okay, it's long, but only eight sections. Signing your soul over is optional, and they only require your second-born, not the standard first.)
But it also has two radio-button sets, for required information exchange (IMEI/MEID, SN, etc., none of which falls into the violation of privacy arena) and optional (crash data, sexual identity, I.Q., annual income, primary STDs.) You have to accept the former, and may decide on the latter.
And then, I am no not kidding, yet another box requiring acceptance!
The following features are included with this update:
· Restricted profile added for Multi User Mode
· Samsung Apps widget
· Hancom Office widget
· Other stability improvements
Thank you for choosing Samsung!
Surely we're ready, you say. In fact, your humble correspondent can truthfully state he's beyond ready, having at this point finished off two Margaritas and a Chocolate Martini. He may, in fact, be a bit toasted. But no, the sad truth is, there's more.
This Windows box had never seen a Samsung or KIES before. It's my dev box, not my daily driver. So I don't know if normal, mere mortal, folk will be hit by this but I got another mandatory install... Admin Delegator by Mobile <something> ltd.
This doesn't show as an admin* file on the disk, nor in the Control Panel installed programs list. I couldn't find it after giving it permission to install at the UAC prompt. But it must have done something, because I was, yet again, prompted to unplug, restart and replug the SM-T320.
Still counting? I think we're up to around 15 installs, prompts and restarts. For you greybeards out there, this is Windows 95 type stuff.
At this point it started doing the install. Which probably took about 15 minutes, despite being on a blazingly fast static sync-DSL.
The end result is:
Kernel 3.4.0-1263708
Tue Apr 8 14:49:36 KST 2014
Build Number: KOT49H.T320UEU1AND3
The primary difference so far? I'm out an hour.
I bought my s3 in March of this year, and everything was working just fine until May. It's an awsome phone and I love it. However, since May, my phone no longer connects to 4g EVER and the 3g comes and goes and never stays connected for more than 10 minutes while in use. I've NEVER even come CLOSE to reaching my plans provided 2.5GB of data, so I know that's not the issue. The phone has never been dropped, or wet, as I am always very delicate with my phones. I have never placed it too close to the TV...
I contacted Boost mobile. They gave me a long list of things to try. I have tried EVERYTHING: making sure the mobile networks is checked, preferred network setting CDMA/LTE, soft reset, clear browser cache, update PRL, profile update, software update, firmware update, ##72786#, and even did a factory reset. Nothing helped. Boost said there was nothing else they could do for me, and that I needed to contact samsung.
Samsung said the only way for them to find the problem is for me to send them my phone, and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to revise it and send it back. That's not an option as I need my phone monday through friday for my job. (UPDATE: I got so irritated with this problem that I went ahead and bought an LG Volt, since I didn't have the money to buy another galaxy. It's nice but I don't like it as much. I'm still afraid to send the Galaxy into Samsung. They have expressed to me that if they can't find an issue(just my luck), or if they find the issue to be my fault(IE I put the phone too close to a credit card magnet or some dumb crap like that), then they will charge me not only for the parts and labor, but for the return shipping... and we all know that they'll charge me way more than the phone is worth.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if there's anyway to fix it without having to send my phone in to samsung? I have been told, also, that I could try reflashing the phone to it's original firmware and software, but I am afraid of screwing the phone up since I've never done anything like that before.
Thanks!
First off, Welcome to the forms.
Secondly, you came to the right place. On this form you'll find crazy people like me who like to do custom flashing updating all the technical stuff. And then there's section of the form where people just want a normal phone and just want the basic troubleshooting tips. As with any user will have to search through the forms because there's a high likely chance that someone already has or had your issue just at different time.
There could be multiple reasons as to what you're experiencing. First off I think you should confirm and verify that you will do live in a good 3G or 4G location so that any further test can be actually validated. Secondly if you're not being able to connect to data it seems that you need to reactivate your phone by getting back on the boost/Sprint network. A full factory restore with data wipe and then updating over the air with firmware, PRL, reboot should work. Make sure you are set to use LET, under mobile data, and that you have enabled Automatic connections to the tower. Reactivate the phone again, if still not connected, reboot.
If you're still not having connection and I think you probably need to do a reflash via ODIN. This is pretty much what Samsung would do I'm except they have their own proprietary tools. Here on XDA we just have great developers.
Good luck.
Thanks button if this helped.

You could definitely flash the stock ROM and kernel to your phone via ODIN. However, the safest and most foolproof way to do this would be to download Samsung's KIES software here: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
Once in KIES, you would plug in your phone to the USB port and, if needed, download any drivers for your phone. Then, you would follow this path: Tools --> Firmware Upgrade and Initilisation. This will give you a warning that you will lose all your stored data on the phone, and will offer you to make a backup -- a very limited backup -- of information on your phone. If you don't have any worthwhile information, I'd skip the backup and go right to stock ROM restore.
Hope this helps.
tO rcatank, I have already done all of those things. I have a new phone (which I don't like as much) that is connected to 4g almost always.

I download KIES onto my computer or the phone? The phone already has something called "KIES Air" on it, is that the same thing? And then one I download the KIES software and hook up my phone and go through the prompts you've provided, it does the rest itself?

No, Kies Air is not the same thing. To do a stock restore, you have to hook it up to Kies on your PC via USB. Follow the steps I showed you, follow the steps on the screen, and Kies will take care of the rest.

Ok, thanks very much! One more question though... does it matter that the galaxy is no longer activated? I mean, obviously to test it to see if it works I'd have to re-activate it. But for this process, does it need to be activated?

Without it being activated, I don't think you'll be able to receive data of any kind. In order to test 4G capabilities, you are probably going to need to reactivate.
But, to restore it via Kies, no activation is necessary.
