I may be wrong but I think it's light (or proximity) sensor cable.

The lights are working properly. Maybe you are right about the proximity sensor, I am gonna try that right now. Thanks!
edit: The proximity sensor is working as well. Any other ideas?
I think he means the ambient light sensor. Is the auto-brightness working properly? Or maybe the notification LED.

Both functions are working properly. The weird thing is that I use my phone the same way as before and everything works great, that is the reason I don't know what the function of that cable is.
Hello,
in a video about Desire HD disassembly, they call that cable "Bluetooth coaxial cable". You may check for proper Bluetooth connection and reception.
If you want to verify, try youtube search for "HTC Desire HD Disassembly Video", it's around 4:35 where they disconnect it.

I guess that is the problem. I get strange noises when I try to listen to the radio. But i'm not sure because I use a ICS ROM. Thanks!
Personally, I don't think that it's the radio antenna.
I heard that the phone does not have a radio antenna.
I heard that the head phone cables are used as UHF radio antenna.
I also don't think that it's some kind of power cables as the connector is a coaxial connector, so it's definitely some kind of radio signal cable.
Bluetooth sounds reasonable...
Did you already check the signal strength of your Bluetooth connection? Or maybe the signal strength of your wifi connection?

Thanks for you effort. Bluetooth and Wifi are working very well, I don't experience any problems with that. I don't experience any problems at all, I'm only curious what the function of that cable is because everything is working properly without that cable.
coaxial cable
one cable is for the gps and the other is the blutooth, white and black, it tells you in the video by htc, its not the gps cable as mine is broken and it stopped the gps working altogether
Bluetooth coaxial cable according te all videos i can find on the subject.
It is the cable for the bluetooth antenna, mayby your bluetooth have reduced range?
That video is made by or for the HTC company itself and I doubt they would call it by the wrong name-tho stranger things have happened. I believe bluetooth is what it is, and as someone suggested-It may purely be the strength of signal that gets afftected not the function itself,

Hello,
I read this forum for quite a long time but never had a chance to register or post. Please forgive me for coming in with questions.
Okay... I want to connect my Nexus One to my Nolan N-Com Basic Kit, but I can't find a suitable ready-made cable for that.
And then I:
Bought two BlackBerry handsfree (Chinese made - $3.42 each)
Cut them below the microphone/button part
Connect the four cables in it
Pictures speak better than words:

Okay, and now here's the problem:
If the cables are just separated like that, the sound is weird, low, and ugly
If I short Red and Green : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Red and Blue : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Red and Yellow : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Green and Blue : Dead - No sound
If I short Green and Yellow : Sound's OK, loud enough, but still a bit weird (like either left/right channel is gone/low although both of the speakers works).
If I short Blue and Yellow : Sound's OK, loud enough, but still a bit weird (like either left/right channel is gone/low although both of the speakers works).
* Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew means sometimes it pause/play/fwd/rev the song, can't understand why, and sometimes it's also reboot the phone
I'm now using the Green and Yellow short, because it's the one that sounds better on most songs.
My first question:
What to do to at least make the sound alright? I crack open and look at the original BlackBerry wiring but got confused. There're R-G-B-Y cables going to the button/mic casing (the cables that I use), and then there're G-B-Y-Y going out from the button/mic casing to the earphones.
My second question:
I really want to have the original (Nexus One) handsfree's functionalities. Having buttons in the cable to receive/hangup phone calls and to play/pause/rew/ffw songs. Is there a wiring diagram for Nexus One's Handsfree somewhere?
Thank you.
I have a similar Problem, I bought a 4-pin 3.5 cable, which works perfect with the Computer, but not with my Nexus One. There is sound, but its horrible...
Do you got a solution for your Problems?
Hi,
Yes I ask a guy in a local electronics workshop to do the work for me based on the attached diagram in this post.
hackaday dot com/2010/11/03/patching-into-android-music-control/
So it needs some resistors, switch, etc., which is beyond my expertise.
Good luck!

I'm not familiar with your hardware but you may have the speakers grounded through the mic+ wire. Is there a screen on your cable? That might be the real 0v connection.

Your description of the wiring suggests to me that:
G and B are left and right speaker+
Y is 0v
R is mic+
HTH.
Like happy jack said, it looks like the green and blue are left and right (+)
Red is mic +
and "Yellow"(looks like copper) is ground (-)

It probably is because the pin configuration is different in the nexus one and the helmet.
Try to do this:
If that doesnt work, then you need to do something more advance that I dont know about.
If you want to just make the speakers work, you could just buy an stereo extension (plug with 3 pins to plug with 3 pins), or try to do this:
Solder both the red and yellow cable or just the yellow and dont solder the red one.
Hey guys, thanks for the replies, but I have the problem solved a few months ago by asking a technician to do the work for me based on the attached diagram.
I got the diagram from some blogs. Link is on my previous post, and here's another one:
wisebread [dot] com/build-a-cable-to-control-your-android-phone-while-you-drive
And although the diagram is for a TRS to TRRS conector, it's sufficient for the technician to create a connector cable that basically works like the original N1 handsfree, but without the microphone (because the micropone line is passed along the whole cable to be used by the helmet's microphone).
I got it.
As sotodefonk mentioned, N-Com and the Nexus One have different pin configurations. With the Information from yofazza, I was able to figure out which cables have to be crossed. Now the Sound is good, and the mic works!
Thank you guys!

Notice the w1 w2 and r1 marking with the holes. To me that seems like a receptacle for antenna cables like on a wifi card for a laptop. What frequencies do you guys think that's for?
i'm guessing the w's are either wifi or wimax but i'm not sure about the r1. as well as if it's for the general radio in the phone could there be a potential way to plug in an antenna to increase the surface area of the antenna to increase the signal.
These are my two cents.

Don't do it. The impedances on those antenna leads need to be very precise...any change in the resistance will totally throw that off and you risk destroying the radio in question. (3G/2G, 4G, Wifi I think)

First. Thank god before i posted. I assumed ones from a laptop on't work but I've got some from an old lg vu that i thought may do the job.
Second would there be a way to measure that? I've got the concept planned out already. If there is someone who is good with this stuff i'd be more than happy to explain the idea further. The other thing is if the way i'm thinking about it is possibly it will add virtually no size to the phone.

Answered all my questions.
Thanks
To bad though. :/
I tested the connectors and this is what I found:
R1 - cell radio. All cell communications use this port and the circuit trace leads to the actual antenna is at the bottom of the phone. One of these days, I will find the frequencies it uses so I can make a proper external antenna.
G - GPS antenna, jack hidden under the antenna at top of the phone. There is no opening on the back due to the size of the antenna.
And I am still trying to pinpoint where wifi is from. Connecting an antenna to the W1 and W2 jacks has no effect. I set up a constant scan for fast graphing of the signal. Narrowing this down has been elusive. I have built wifi antennas for years and this boggles my mind.
Large antenna left of the camera and the small one to the right. No external port and had no effect on wifi. Bluetooth? More antenna diversity for wifi?
I have been wondering which is for what for the longest time maybe I will try hooking some antennas up to them and see if there is any changes.

thats a big problem, but most development here on xda is software, not hardware est bet would be to recheck everything is connected completely, when ever a screen breaks, your best bet is to usually just upgrade, hardware is hard to modify.
It's not that I'm 100% sure that the hardware has problems, but it happened after I changed the LCD etc. So it has to be because of that. Can someone tell me which part of the motherboard is the wifi so that I can check it for damages etc. or are there other things that I can do in order to try to fix it?
Thank you in advance.
I thought the WiFi/cellular antennas are somewhere in the upper part of the phone.
Usually it's some kind of wire running along the edges.
I thought GPS was on the led surround Bluetooth was on the battery cover

In bottom PCB I remove shield cans, i can see name IC wifi & bluetooth (It's name Broadcom BCM4356, you can search datasheet on google).I guess that is bluetooth antenna (maybe this point for wifi antenna). i soldering external antenna and test with remote
Here overview in datasheet
The Cypress CYW4356 single-chip device provides the highest level of integration for a mobile or handheld wireless system, with
integrated IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MAC/baseband/radio, Bluetooth 4.1 + EDR (enhanced data rate), FM receiver, and Alliance for
Wireless Power (A4WP) support. The wireless charging feature works in collaboration with the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT)
BCM59350 front-end IC. It provides a small form-factor solution with minimal external components to drive down cost for mass
volumes and allows for handheld device flexibility in size, form, and function. Comprehensive power management circuitry and
software ensure the system can meet the needs of highly mobile devices that require minimal power consumption and reliable
operation.

Hi
I recently bought a new Android head unit for my Renault Clio and have been going over a few things before i install and was surprised to see the wifi antenna is just a single wire that comes from one of the output plugs on the chassis. On all my previous head units there's been a gold RP-SMA type connector to attach an antenna to.
Heres the Unit I purchased: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Din-Autoradio-Android-9-0-Car-GPS-Stereo-Audio-10inch-4G-64G-HDMI-AUX-Wifi-OBD/183972485630?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
My questions are;
Is this new single white wire (antenna) out the back of the units chassis enough to pick up a signal? & if not:
How do i go about modifying it? In my car i have two 'blade' type adhesive antennas in the A-pillars of the car which gave great wifi reception with my phone tethered in the glove box. I can't help but think this new unit may be a bit of a step down in wifi performance.
Could a possible solution be to connect (via one of the USB connectors) an RP-SMA type antenna like this but for Android, does such a thing exist as i don't want to fit a usb dongle since i have unlimited data on my phone.

Cheers, I ended up doing the same but soldering on an RP-SMA connector onto the end of the wireless cable that poked out the back. It worked a treat. Overall i'm very impressed with this unit compared to the Xtrons unit i have in my van, the only problem i'm having is no DAB without tethering my phone despite having a USB DAB module plugged in in the glove box.
Roger (UK)
Hi friend ?
it can also work as you did...
the antenna cable is composed of 2 cores of wires! the internal wire is the signal (on the radio it was that stupid wire)
then there is the ground cable to be connected on the radio chassis! you see my photo .... I soldered the pigtail cable on the motherboard!
my radio works fine but i don't use DAB i'm sorry! I noticed that my radio has problems mixing audio music and navigator .... you have the same problem?
thanks
Cheers PT i'll have another look at that, I've got a spare RP-SMA pigtail so may well open up the radio and go direct from the board like you have. The only problem i have is when i use poweramp it doesn't always shut the radio off so have to open another app to turn radio off that way. Other than that all good and for £130 can't really complain, my xtrons unit was just shy of £300 and is slower.
also i have the same problem with poweramp! i removed the application because i preferred old style apk which worked better in my old eonon head unit!
so you have no problem with audio management when using the gps navigator?
when I listen to music and use the navigator (iGo) the voice feels low and the music increases the volume! consequently I do not understand what to say the voice guide of the navigator!
my radio is the model with dsp (about 220 dollars)

Navigation wise i use google maps, it quietens the music momentarily when giving directions, you can change this in the settings to keep music up. I havent used the iGo software. So apart from the poweramp problem no other problems, i think i'll tey a different DAB module (got a couple spare) to sort that and maybe point all my music at the onboard player instead of poweramp.
can you take screenshots of your settings to keep music?
i can't ... maybe my firmware has a problem
Thanks
