Hello,
I read this forum for quite a long time but never had a chance to register or post. Please forgive me for coming in with questions.
Okay... I want to connect my Nexus One to my Nolan N-Com Basic Kit, but I can't find a suitable ready-made cable for that.
And then I:
Bought two BlackBerry handsfree (Chinese made - $3.42 each)
Cut them below the microphone/button part
Connect the four cables in it
Pictures speak better than words:

Okay, and now here's the problem:
If the cables are just separated like that, the sound is weird, low, and ugly
If I short Red and Green : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Red and Blue : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Red and Yellow : Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew*
If I short Green and Blue : Dead - No sound
If I short Green and Yellow : Sound's OK, loud enough, but still a bit weird (like either left/right channel is gone/low although both of the speakers works).
If I short Blue and Yellow : Sound's OK, loud enough, but still a bit weird (like either left/right channel is gone/low although both of the speakers works).
* Pause/Play/Ffw/Rew means sometimes it pause/play/fwd/rev the song, can't understand why, and sometimes it's also reboot the phone
I'm now using the Green and Yellow short, because it's the one that sounds better on most songs.
My first question:
What to do to at least make the sound alright? I crack open and look at the original BlackBerry wiring but got confused. There're R-G-B-Y cables going to the button/mic casing (the cables that I use), and then there're G-B-Y-Y going out from the button/mic casing to the earphones.
My second question:
I really want to have the original (Nexus One) handsfree's functionalities. Having buttons in the cable to receive/hangup phone calls and to play/pause/rew/ffw songs. Is there a wiring diagram for Nexus One's Handsfree somewhere?
Thank you.
I have a similar Problem, I bought a 4-pin 3.5 cable, which works perfect with the Computer, but not with my Nexus One. There is sound, but its horrible...
Do you got a solution for your Problems?
Hi,
Yes I ask a guy in a local electronics workshop to do the work for me based on the attached diagram in this post.
hackaday dot com/2010/11/03/patching-into-android-music-control/
So it needs some resistors, switch, etc., which is beyond my expertise.
Good luck!
ps: sorry for the new-user-spam-prevention workaround

I'm not familiar with your hardware but you may have the speakers grounded through the mic+ wire. Is there a screen on your cable? That might be the real 0v connection.

Your description of the wiring suggests to me that:
G and B are left and right speaker+
Y is 0v
R is mic+
HTH.
Like happy jack said, it looks like the green and blue are left and right (+)
Red is mic +
and "Yellow"(looks like copper) is ground (-)

It probably is because the pin configuration is different in the nexus one and the helmet.
Try to do this:
If that doesnt work, then you need to do something more advance that I dont know about.
If you want to just make the speakers work, you could just buy an stereo extension (plug with 3 pins to plug with 3 pins), or try to do this:
Solder both the red and yellow cable or just the yellow and dont solder the red one.
Hey guys, thanks for the replies, but I have the problem solved a few months ago by asking a technician to do the work for me based on the attached diagram.
I got the diagram from some blogs. Link is on my previous post, and here's another one:
wisebread [dot] com/build-a-cable-to-control-your-android-phone-while-you-drive
And although the diagram is for a TRS to TRRS conector, it's sufficient for the technician to create a connector cable that basically works like the original N1 handsfree, but without the microphone (because the micropone line is passed along the whole cable to be used by the helmet's microphone).
I got it.
As sotodefonk mentioned, N-Com and the Nexus One have different pin configurations. With the Information from yofazza, I was able to figure out which cables have to be crossed. Now the Sound is good, and the mic works!
Thank you guys!

Hello,
I have been searching everywhere on the internet, but I haven't found any good sources of information that can help me convert a 8 wire phone cable to 4 wire min-usb.
In my car I have a Bosch HA G2 Cartel phone, and it' very old. It was connected to the audio system of my car using the folowing wire :
www.sodevrom.net/wire.jpg
Now, I want to convert the 8 wire to a mini usb , so I can connect my HTC phone and listen music directly from the phone.
I found the color scheme of the wires for the mini-usb here:
http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml
Unfortunatly I don't know how to connet the 8 wires so I can make it in 4 wires (for the mini-usb).
I would appreciate a lot if someone could help me.
Thank you
not sure about what the 8pin include but it it's not usb signals then you cant
usb is both an electrical and digital protocol it's serial and 5volts signals
if a device is not made 100% to work with usb it will never work
HHmmm,
I have an audio cassette that has a normal audio jack. I bought an adaptor that switches from audio jack to mini-usb and it worked.
Why woulden't this work ? The mini-usb will send audio to the speakers. It must work, but I need a color scheme for the above cable, or some other methods to do what I need.
I don't want to re-cable my entire car just becouse I can't modify a cable
no htc device ever had miniUSB
no miniUSb device ever carried analog audio
htc devices use extUSB which is miniUSB with extre connectors which carry normal analog
signals like one find in 3.5mm minijack connectors
if you get a extusb connector which got a mini jack 3.5mm in the other end you can
connect any audio souse to that and it will play like a htc headset
but it have nothing to do with usb
I appologise here,
You are correct . Let me explain better.
I have an adapter that connects to my HTC phone and sends out 3 outputs :
-mini-usb
-the other usb you sayed about
-normal audio jack .
I need to connect 1 of those 3 outputs with the car cable (I sowed you in the PIC).
Here is a detailed pic
www.sodevrom.net/ineed.jpg
Thanx
that pic made me actually "lol" i like how it has random pictures to generalize what you are describing
Why do you want it to go through the Phone cord? why not directly into 3.5mm and into your car deck which then feeds it to the speakers?
That would be perfect, I thought that it's easyer to make it go through the cord.
Can you tell me a good solution on how to connect the phone directly ? Should I take out my cassette player (yea, it's old) and get the wires of the speakers ?
And also the cable that connects to my phone has 4 wires :
white, green, red, black.
Should I connect all this 4 wires or only 2 ? And if only 2 , wich ones
Thanx
2 wires are used for audio and one for ground. im not sure what the forth wire is.
I would not suggest directly connecting to your speaker wires, you wouldnt have an amplifier to boost the sound and it would come in very quiet
Hmmm... Than where should I connect it than ?
Sorry for all the questions, and thak you for the help.
Also, I think that the wires I have to connect are White and Green, right ?

Thanx

HTC uses extUSB, which is not defined on that link of yours
this is the pinout of extUSB
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2006/09/10/htc_hermes_usb_connector_pin_config
I understand this, but I want to know where to connect the right wires to the car.
I have a cassette player in my car, and I am sure it's possible to open the player and connect the htc wires.
it is possible to by a casset with a wire on the end of it to connect to something such as a cd player or mp3 player....

you could connect this to your extusb to headphone jack. this would allow for you to play your sound through the car AND it to be amplified through the "radio" on the car....
is this what you are asking for or are you wanting a mic also?
If you are wanting a mic you are going to have to go blue tooth.
Edit: one more thing..... if you go messing with the wires of this you can mess up the computer in your car because of security precautions of manufactures.... so if your car is newer, be careful and check things out before you go splicing things
Hi Guys,
I have ASUS p320 winMo phone. I am searching for a miniUSB to 3.5mm adapter for connecting normal earphones to the phone...
There are plenty available for HTC phones and i'm sure ASUS has similar mini USB interface as HTC but problem is HTC have extUSB which has slightly different shape than regular miniUSB...extUSB pin is curved one side only unlike miniUSB which is curved at both ends...so it can not fit my phone
Are there anywhere selling miniUSB to 3.5mm adapter, which ship internationally and preferably having form factor without wires like this

Regards,
the difference between miniUSB and extUSB is that ext carry analog audio
where miniUSB is just a digital serial interface as in most of it not being audio
plugging a 3.5mm headset or otherwise audio device into an miniUSB is like
trying to connect a mic to a fax
Actually asus port is extUSB(ie has 11pins) but its port shape is miniUSB...
After much searching, I couldn't find anything like this for my Asus P565/XDA Zest. I ended up with one of these:
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2007/...lessly-blasts-tunes-from-phone-to-hifi-or-pc/
If you don't mind the extra pocket space...
Ok guys, i managed to fit the HTC adapter which i've bought for my asus by filing the extUSB to minUSB
it now fits. When i plug in the adaptor connected with an earphone i do get the handsfree icon on my phone....but when I play i don't get any sound in my earphones..
I fear that some of things i tried with the adapter before filing it may have damaged it, so there's no sound now...
Do you guys think it would work if I should get a new adapter and file it again since I do get the earphone icon on my device when i connect it?
This one has some mixed reviews on it...

This is the same thing I get with that Motorola adapter. I assume that the adapter you have doens't have the correct number of pins either. I don't think you've damaged the socket at least
Found this on ebay. Not so mini but at least you can plug your own headphones into it.
EDIT: Or this is smaller and without the microphone, just not quite as small as the HTC adaptors.

I think the second adapter is a bit too long & unflexible. The first one though, considering I now use what is essentially an external MP3 player, looks promising and will no doubt provide better audio quality. I'll check that out, thanks!

Thanks "shuflie",
Who all would possibly be interested in something like this?
I'll be looking into making one, and I'm posting this here so that others could give it a try as well.
I, as possibly many who've gotten off the iOS bandwagon probably have some Apple-related audio accessories which rely on the infamous dock connector.
Because of Sammy's lovely implementation of 'docking' modes, using an adapter of sorts it's possible to both charge the phone and send audio through USB!
Basic idea:
The iPod's dock connector pinout is as follows: 5 and 6 are R/L audio in, 1, 2, and various others are grounded, and pin 23 is +5V.
The orginal Desktop Dock use data +/- as the audio line. But you need to jump pin 4 with a 365K resitor to activate this mode.
PIN:
1 : VCC
2 : D-: AUDIO LINE OUT L/R
3 : D+: AUDIO LINE OUT R/L
4 : SENSE ( CONNECT WITH SMALL 365K TO GND )
5 : GND
Click to collapse
That snippet was gotten from: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249775
Connect the corresponding wires, and it should in theory, allow us to use one connector to output audio to any of the docks. Obviously there's no way to control media playback via the dock itself, but I figure this beats using the line-in that some docks do have.
I'll be looking into whipping up an adapter for such a thing, and felt like sharing the idea to those who might be able to do so before I can or would like to try themselves etc.
However, has anyone else considered something like this? I'm speaking specifically about taking advantage of the GS2's docking mode, as a similar adapter was made with an audio input cord. Comments or thoughts?
I didn't feel this was something to be posted in either Q&A or Accessories, however if I was wrong in doing so please by all means mods move it to where it belongs.
Sounds like a good idea. Make a video showing us the results.
Cheers
i guess the first attempt would be to take an iphone-usb cable, microusb cable and the resistor
remove the plastics, wire accordingly, test and in case of success solder
parts of the procedure are the same as they are for makeing a jig
If something like this could be made and made to look "clean" that would be AWESOME!!!
I just made one with jack end, it is working, thanks for the pinout !
Will try to report about SQ later.

uh, in a electronic components shop?
Honestly, find yourself a local shop with electronics, and buy any resistor between 355k and 375k, it should work just fine. The smaller the better, 0,125W will do just fine.
Ah i thought it had to be exactly 365 . and only have a very small crappy electronics store were I live.
Will this do

TBH, I'd go to the crappy small store. Do you really need 100/1000 of those resistors?
The ones from eBay are 0,25W. Those could be to big to fit in the plug. If you're positive you don't want to find a local seller, try these, but those are 1000pcs :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-6-Watt-360K-ohm-5-Through-Hole-Carbon-Film-Resistors-/200655439530
Another thing to consider. Look at the delivery times on eBay.
I did it with a 0.25W resistor (from the ebay 100 pack), it fit the plug.
Hey.
I have made some pictures of a cradle type Itower. That I've done with a few things I had at home and others that I had to buy.

you need:
-A phone. (In my case now is the Samsung Galaxyi9100)
-A cradle with 3.5mm audio output jack to be possible (which also charges a second battery and operates in Clock, so when you connect, a screen type alarm) in the i9100 this only does the original cradle Samsung
-A car radio with Aux input "external input" (I installed a radio that has Bluetooth, because you don't need a connection 3.5mm audio output jack on the cradle)
-Transformer 220v to 12v AC continuously. (A PC power supply would be enough, but get yourself a power supply silent)
-Several speakers (I had them at home, they were in an old car)
-MDF 10mm thick (thicker more weigh the furniture!) (This measure 27 centimeters W x 110 centimeters H x 20 centimeters deep, but it depends on your preference depends on the speakers you put course!)
-Wood screws 2.5 milimeters x 20 milimeters approx.
-Tools: jigsaw, drill, several screwdrivers.
-Take time, patience and desire to do it!
-I finished covering leather fabric (imitation leather) by the front and sides, black paint on the back. I also added some wheels.
-The speaker grille is made of a wood strip of 1.5 milimeters and a thin black cloth stapled wood and some nails.
-The Bluetooth radio show the title of the songs played on your screen. The remote control is great to use sitting on the sofa.
Greetings. - eldelcairo

Amplified has a problem: power Amp.
The power supply for home is low amps.
A car battery works with more Amps.
Amplified you have to install a very expensive power supply.

dude that's some truly nice work, great idea
Awesome idea! I have an old deck in my basement, now this gives me an idea.. lol
I noticed that you transformed 220v down to 12vac.. Next question is, did you put in a bridge rectifier? To go from ac to dc? I'm pretty sure most car stereos are 12vdc. I would hate for you to smoke that awesome setup using ac, instead of dc. I might just pick up an cheap pc power supply to run my deck, its a shame that the higher current dc power supplies are so expensive, i would add my amp and sub into the mix to make a really sweet setup.

It's the internal Hdmi and micro usb cable that connects to the main board and then has the cable to the two micro plugs you find at the back of the Atrix lapdock.
Thanks
Any success?

I know... Old thread... But just throwing this in here as a reference!
I converted my lapdock to contain both an hdmi and micro usb port.
This is reallllllly time consuming as you are dealing with small wires- not to mention 20 of them. Look up a pinouts for both a micro-hdmi male, and full-hdmi female. Match them up. Draw it out. (I made the mistake of reversing the wires. Male-to-Female wiring can be confusing)
Pictures of the product show its a bit ugly... but it all works. As a display and with the keyboard/trackpad combo. I have more pictures of the final product.. but I'd have to look for them.

its good to hear someone still using the old atrix, i still got mine though but i have broken micro hdmi port on the phone part. my lapdock is still good i guess theres nothing j could try on, rpi still cost a huge amount in our country, cable conversions were also hard to find (micro hdmi female to hdmi)
I have the lapdock and the audio dock. I want to connect my sony xperia z1 with the screen broken in it and use. I opened the back and left the cables out of the lapdock. I also opened the desk dock and left the exposed cables to make it easier to connect the Z1. When I plugged the Z1 into the desk dock it charged the normal beter, but the OTG function did not work. Well I would connect the HDMI to the USB input of the desktop dock to pass the Z1 pro lapdock image. Does anyone know why USB port did not work as OTG?

I converted my lapdock to contain both an hdmi and micro usb port.
This is reallllllly time consuming as you are dealing with small wires- not to mention 20 of them. Look up a pinouts for both a micro-hdmi male, and full-hdmi female. Match them up. Draw it out. (I made the mistake of reversing the wires. Male-to-Female wiring can be confusing)
Pictures of the product show its a bit ugly... but it all works. As a display and with the keyboard/trackpad combo. I have more pictures of the final product.. but I'd have to look for them.

I know this is an old thread, but I busted my usb connection, can you please help me with the pinout???
And as usual... I'm a little bit late to the party. The pdf isn't there anymore .. I'm wondering if anyone else can share it ?
Also, I'm curious where all the broken screen or broken mobo lapdocks go.. I still can't find any on ebay !
