Friend of mine does not use any custom ROM's. She just has her Verizon Nexus unlocked and rooted. It keeps wanting her to download 4.1. How do you update to 4.1 without having to wipe? Is there anyway to just update to 4.1?

Hello,
today I heard about an update to android 4.0.4 for the galaxy nexus and more.
I was wondering: I've got the stock rom for the galaxy nexus, but it is rooted. Will I get the official update tot 4.0.4
Thanks in advance

If you are running Stock ROM you should be getting the OTA. Be aware that you also have to have Stock Recovery in order to let the OTA install automatically. Rooting won't alone will not prevent the OTA but you will most probably loose the root and have to re-root.

Hey.. I'd appreciate if someone could assist with this question..
I was running an early build of Jelly Bean and while on it, The offical OTA came to my phone and I wanted to use that one.. of course it didn't work because of root and CWM being the recovery... So i flashed stock 4.0.4 and re-locked my boot-loader... you think the OTA of 4.1 will eventually come back to my phone?
I don't know! what 4.0.4 version you flashed? taku, yakju?
Also you can do this:
flash takju-jb-zip from rommanager download page, it's JB 4.1!
the flash via fastboot the LC03 bootloader, XXLF1 radio and then update JB 4.1 to 4.1.1 when you get notification of the update!
it doesn't matter if yoour nexus is rooted, root will go away and you have to root it again on Jelly Bean..
here is the JB 4.1 work CWM: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/jb-takju.zip
wipe dalvik cache, cache and then flasj JB-takju-zip and make factory/data reset on CWM and flasj JB-takju.zip again and then the root files.zip,
..
then you have working JB 4.1 which updates to 4.1.1..

Darn.. not even sure..
Version 4.0.4
Baseband I9250XXLA2
Build IMM76I
The whole purpose of me un-rooting was to get the OTA without root. I know I can get the new version thanks to the Developers and CWM but i wanted to know if anyone had any success with an instance like mine. Thanks a lot

You should get JB OTA if it is the stock factory image and the recovery is untouched. Some say that the OTA will come faster if you go to settings -> apps -> all, find "Google Services Framework" and "Clear data". Then check for updates on the about page.

Thanks.. I'll give this a go. Much appreciated
For a quick reminder, you will not be able to receive the update if you are not on Wi-Fi. OTA for mobile data reception will start after 14th afaik.

I'm in Lebanon right now, and my cousin over here has an Unlocked Galaxy Nexus, will he receive the JB OTA? Or is he going to have to flash it manually?
The Update comes right to your phone once you cut Wifi On .. see

Location does not matter. If you have the right firmware and you're on WiFi, it'll notify and download it.
Hi i received today the jb update notice but it didn't work,i don't know if because i moved away of the wifi zone or because my bootloader is unlocked, now I'm trying to check for updates on the about zone and nothing happens.
I'm running yakyu 4.0.4 upgraded by me from yakyuwx 4.0.2; does anyone knows why the jb upgrade didn't work? Will it come back? I don't want to flash it.
Screenshot attached.
By the way, my phone is gsm unlocked bought in Amazon and i live in Perú.
Thanks in advance.

I'm on a JB rom from here and I just got the OTA update message. If I hit restart and install will it brick it or is it safe to do? If its not how do I clear the message?
Mind providing a little more information? Which Jelly Bean ROM are you running? Is it stock? Is it custom?
If your entire phone is stock, then yes, update.
If not, don't update. Flash stock, perhaps 4.0.4 Yakju, then update.
If you have no idea, don't update. Flash stock, perhaps 4.0.4 Yakju, then update.
Don't be afraid of the search feature located on the top left side of your screen.

Can't help you if all you got is "this ROM". Flash stock 4.0.4 yakju using the toolkit by mskip. Then update.

will not flash with cwm, but it won't brick either.

Depends if its a stock image or a custom ROM you're running.
If you've flashed a stock image (doubtful because you say "ROM"), then you can accept it only if you have a stock radio, bootloader, system and recovery. Even if you're 100% stock but with a custom recovery (like CWM), you can't accept and auto-install an OTA. You have to install it manually.
If you're on a custom ROM, you cannot accept the OTA.
Hey guys,
I just soft bricked my GN a few hours ago, flashing a wrong kernel. Now i got the CWM working and just flashed a random ROM ( MIUI 4.0.4 ).
So here is the question:
How can i get the 4.1.1 from this point?
Can i try to flash a new rom and then update? Which rom?
Thank you!
You won't get the official 4.1.1 unless you return to stock. You'll have to wait until the developers of your current ROM provide an update.

You won't get a OTA (automatic update push by google ) update if you are not using stock rom. But you can flash any rom you want, even back to the stock one if you like it.
im on stock is there anyway i can get official jb

Hi,
I just noticed that my wife's Galaxy S III still has original 4.1 stock ROM. I tried to do a OTA update (Rogers) but the system is saying that there is no update available. The phone is rooted.
Do I need to unroot the phone to get the update?
Thx,

Just download 4.3 Rogers and you now have the latest firmware with root. Good Luck

If you load 4.3 with an updated bootloader, you won't be able to downgrade the OS.

Yeah that is true but if you don't want 4.3 then you can always download the 4.1.2 or 4.1 instead.
