4.1 OTA: Will it come back to my phone? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey.. I'd appreciate if someone could assist with this question..
I was running an early build of Jelly Bean and while on it, The offical OTA came to my phone and I wanted to use that one.. of course it didn't work because of root and CWM being the recovery... So i flashed stock 4.0.4 and re-locked my boot-loader... you think the OTA of 4.1 will eventually come back to my phone?

I don't know! what 4.0.4 version you flashed? taku, yakju?
Also you can do this:
flash takju-jb-zip from rommanager download page, it's JB 4.1!
the flash via fastboot the LC03 bootloader, XXLF1 radio and then update JB 4.1 to 4.1.1 when you get notification of the update!
it doesn't matter if yoour nexus is rooted, root will go away and you have to root it again on Jelly Bean..
here is the JB 4.1 work CWM: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/jb-takju.zip
wipe dalvik cache, cache and then flasj JB-takju-zip and make factory/data reset on CWM and flasj JB-takju.zip again and then the root files.zip,
..
then you have working JB 4.1 which updates to 4.1.1..

Darn.. not even sure..
Version 4.0.4
Baseband I9250XXLA2
Build IMM76I
The whole purpose of me un-rooting was to get the OTA without root. I know I can get the new version thanks to the Developers and CWM but i wanted to know if anyone had any success with an instance like mine. Thanks a lot

You should get JB OTA if it is the stock factory image and the recovery is untouched. Some say that the OTA will come faster if you go to settings -> apps -> all, find "Google Services Framework" and "Clear data". Then check for updates on the about page.

Thanks.. I'll give this a go. Much appreciated

For a quick reminder, you will not be able to receive the update if you are not on Wi-Fi. OTA for mobile data reception will start after 14th afaik.

Interesting that it will only come through on wifi.. i think the update is like 8MB? but i did notice it popped up the first time when i got home and turned on wifi

I'm in Lebanon right now, and my cousin over here has an Unlocked Galaxy Nexus, will he receive the JB OTA? Or is he going to have to flash it manually?

The Update comes right to your phone once you cut Wifi On .. see

Location does not matter. If you have the right firmware and you're on WiFi, it'll notify and download it.

Hi i received today the jb update notice but it didn't work,i don't know if because i moved away of the wifi zone or because my bootloader is unlocked, now I'm trying to check for updates on the about zone and nothing happens.
I'm running yakyu 4.0.4 upgraded by me from yakyuwx 4.0.2; does anyone knows why the jb upgrade didn't work? Will it come back? I don't want to flash it.
Screenshot attached.
By the way, my phone is gsm unlocked bought in Amazon and i live in PerĂº.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] About updating to 4.0.4

I am using GSM GN with 4.0.2 stock rom but modified the battery icon, radio is XXLA2 and bootloader is PRIMELA03 and already relocked bootloader
I know the OTA update now is only for completely stock 4.0.2 and I cannot find any custom "Stock rooted deodexed IMM76D" rom for GSM GN
Is there any method to update the rom to stock 4.0.4 without wiping my data??
hello, i have a related question but i didnt want to make another thread to avoid the spam and all the forum trolls.
my question is, i got the 4.0.4 android update (OTA) i did not update yet because i dont have stock, i have Android revolution ROM.
what will happen if i update ? will my device get unrooted ?
will my data be wiped ?
thanks a lot.

dude, as stated also in other threads, you will never be able to install OTA update due to custom recovery
seeya mates
I know the best is to wipe, but it need to backup the whole sdcard folder which is about 10GB data to my computer and then restore and need to reconfig the phone setting after wipe which really take a long long long time!!!!
So I want to find out the method of bypassing the complete 4.0.2 limitation or wait for someone to make a custom rom like "stock 4.0.4 rooted deodexed"
this kind of rom is available everytime a stock rom come out but not in this time!!?
with root explorer, or better with adb under cwm recovery if u have it, u can restore the files modified by the battery mod, and restore that files with the original 4.0.2 ones
in this way, u can apply the 4.0.4 ota when u get the notification
However, my rom is already deodexed!! Anyone have 4.0.2 rom(stock odexed but no need to wipe), radio and bootloader link (CWM zip), so I can flash this three in recovery and then the OTA update

[Q] Quick JB OTA Question

I currently have a Telus GSM GNex 4.0.4 flashed to the yakju builds so I can receive the OTA updates directly from Google. If I install the stock Jelly Bean 4.1 ROM, will I be able to receive subsequent OTA updates from Google?
Thanks.

yes
AFAIK, for flashing 4.1, u need CWM. if u have CWM, u cant get OTA.

We need to be a bit clearer than that in order to not cause confusion:
1) CWM is needed to flash JRN84D in current form, but that doesn't mean that CWM needs to be installed on your device. Booting CWM is fine.
2) All stock ROMs (including JRN84D) which have been updated from a previous build via an OTA update have two files in /system which re-flash the stock recovery on EVERY reboot. So, even if you did have CWM flashed, it would be gone unless you modified the ROM.
3) Even if you do keep CWM, you will still receive the notification that there is an OTA update, and you can install it -- it just won't install automatically. You need to manually download it, re-boot into CWM and flash it. But it will work fine.

Need to update to Jellybean 4.1 firmware

This can be deleted. Problem fixed.

Friend of mine does not use any custom ROM's. She just has her Verizon Nexus unlocked and rooted. It keeps wanting her to download 4.1. How do you update to 4.1 without having to wipe? Is there anyway to just update to 4.1?

just press the update button, no need to wipe if update from stock rom.

Question about root and roms

If I root my S3 will I still be able to get the OTA updates? I rooted my Atrix and after that I couldn't get the OTA updates. Also what is the best ROM?

If you don't need a specific feature from the stock firmware (gestures, wifi calling, etc), just get CM or AOKP and save yourself a headache.
Best? As far as stock? I've read LI6 is decent.
Well with my Atrix when Android 3.0 came out I wasn't able to update it because I was rooted. So my question is when Jelly Bean comes out will I be able to update it to Jelly bean if I am rooted or have a custom rom installed?

3.0 wasn't even for phones. If you install custom recovery you will not be able to receive an OTA until you flash the stock recovery. Just use a jellybean ROM.

How can this be true? This is what I did.
Restored a UVALEM nandroid (via CWM). It was the original firmware on the phone when I bought it (no custom install, but I rooted with the Sprint method a couple weeks prior), I just happened to keep this backup.
Reset factory defaults.
Nandroid again for clean UVALEM backup.
Use Software > About phone > Software update to get the UVALH2 update. It was ~90mb.
Phone rebooted after it was done.
Dropped into CWM to make another backup (CWM still here, was never removed).
Downloaded LI6 JB OTA from SamMobile. Installed that from CWM.
I have LI6, never removed CWM. And it is still there. Root should be, although I did not test to confirm.
If you can't receive OTAs with custom recovery/root, how did this work? Is it a feature that was not active in the UVALH2 build? What about the LI6 build I flashed from CWM?

I don't know, clockworkmod is supposed to block the installation of OTA updates.

Hmm, I'm using 6.0.1.2, and it does ask me if I want to disable /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, when I try to exit.

Galaxy Nexus OTA update to 4.3

Hi! I was having and I still have troubles with loosing of data signal in some areas when I have 2G only. I unlock my bootloader, put CMW recovery and put newest radio but it didn't help. But I saw that 4.3 Jelly Bean has comed and I didn't get OTA update. I didn't changed stock ROM and I didn't root my phone. Will I get OTA update or because I did things that I describe earlier I will need manually update to 4.3? Thank you.
