Is there any way we can save sms thread to a file, or in any other format for the record purposes? I've Lumia 900 and brother has Lumia 800.
cheers...
I'l like to do that aswell.
It's a very old issue that changing or resetting phone delete the sms as well. I wonder why someone hasn't taken this challange to save sms to file etc.

is there somehow some software witch can easely backup all incomming/outgoing sms's ? ? ?
like,

ore sync. it somehow??
Pim Backup is all you need....

Een geluk dat er slimme Belgen bestaan hé ;-)
I often recommended PIMBackup, but several times users in other forums reported incomplete restores with backup, especially with larger amounts of SMS. So I would not bet on it. I use Sprite Backup, but maybe you wanna give the free Mobile Express http://www.efficasoft.com/mobileexpress/index.html a try. It is sort of a Outlook Express for SMS, you can move SMS to a backup folder, and of course also send/receive from your desktop PC.

For me, PIMBackup has allways done the job (even though I had 1000+ sms/mms to recover after backup).
But, like with any other apps, there will allways be some problems on particular devices/ROMs.
Grtz,
Degake
Maybe try myphone.microsoft.com ? Works for me.
Jeyo Mobile Companion is awesome!
It lets you download the messages, back them up and restore them with the threaded sms in place..
I haven't had any issues so far, but I don't use it a huge amount, just to reply to sms's from the pc while the phone is connected

By the way.. Dutty's ROMs ROCK!! (Just thought I'd add that in since I've not said it anywhere else )
I eassely exceed over a 1000+ sms a month, so i'm realy searching for a nice app what does the trick.. i'll be watching this tread and will be trying a few suggestions

The Microsoft MyPhone service would handle this nicely. You can set the options to sync when when ever there is change on the device meaning your SMSs can be uploaded to the web as soon as they arrive.
You can also use MyPhone to back up contacts, calendar, music and pictures. It's still a 'work in progress' service but I wouldn't be surprised to see it integrate with Live Mesh and (hopefully) Outlook so it can become an Exchange Service for Joe Public.

I'm not sure what SMS app you use but Vito just came out with an update for their SMSChat app. You can now backup your sms in the settings within this app...no need for any other software!
I've used POWERSMS and worked fine for me.
Ciao

this one is free, and offcourse, for me being dutch, freeware does the trick better
haha
no kidding, i'll be testing the lot, as soon as i got them. i will be ceeping my eyes open, buth this one did the trick nicely!
Sadly it doesn't work with "conversations", that's the only thing missing, you'll have to sort all messeges by date, sender, or size.
Shurely if you export all messeges sorted by time it somehow looks like a conversation.
i'll be trying the other options now
Hi All,
Im new to this forum and also new to WM I have the Touch Pro 2 and this is the first WM device I have owned.
I have had a look through the forums but cannot seem to find anything in releation to the TP2 about vcard support.
When I recieve contact details it does not come up as a contact card you can save instead I get the following:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
NName of Person)
TEL;CELLnumber)
EMAIL;INTERNET;PREF
......
......
and so on
X-IRMC-LUIC:000000000000
END:VCARD
Is this a common problem with WM on these devices or am i doing something wrong?
Hope you can help.
it should work out of the box. Just tap on the vcard in your email and it should ask if you want to save it to contacts and that's it. I just tried it with this (http://www.lead411.com/vcard.taf?_function=fromsample)
sample vcard and it worked fine. check the vcard you're using...
Hi,
I got a vCard via SMS and am trying to import it into contacts. Forum search led me to this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381380
but the application doesn't seem to work for me.
Is there any other way to extract the contact information from a sms in one go?
Thanks
Robert

It's right there in front of you! "SMS Groupifier" -- sheesh! (no, sorry, just kidding, no offense... I sympathize whenever functionality you are used to on one platform is reduced when migrating to another... especially one competing to outdo the other. I am sure you have searched AndroLib.com -- but if not, maybe a thin thin chance there is something else there.
i tried groupsms too
same crap
very annoying....cant believe i cant send my sms on this little computer cellphone
any help or idea?
Apparently there is an app called Text Easy also Chomp allows you to send to google groups. Discussed at Android Community

Hello Guys,
I just got a HTC Desire and I really like this cell phone.
But I have a problem with my SMSes.
Before, I got a HTC Diamond and I had allot of text messages on it.
So, I found a sollution to backup my SMSes from my Diamond to my new Desire.
What I did: I downloaded SMS Exporter 0.5 and made a XML file. I opened this XML file with my Desire.
Everything worked, I got my SMSes back.
But some SMSes (from the same person/number) are separeted from eachother. Sometimes I got 3 different conversations, but they all are from the same number.
So, my question is: can I join them togheter and edit my inbox?
Besides that, I got problems if I push the send button, it doesn't response (in the conversation screen). The only thing what works is to set up a new sms in a different windows.
I only have this problem with contacts who are "backupped". So, with new contacts everything works.
I really want a sollution for this
Thanks in advance,
Frank

it sounds like the backup file is either not compatible or is corrupted.
i'd recommend deleting the sms from your desire and use a different program to backup your smses to your desire
This is very much possible, but the right apps do not exist at the moment.
I (actually my better half too) have successfully transfered my 11600 SMS messages (almost 3mb uncompressed) from several generations of WinMo phones (thanks to PIM Backup!) to my Desire using SMS Exporter v0.5 and SMS Backup & Restore. However, the XML file produced by SMS Exporter is not identical to the ones SMS Backup likes to "eat", so they require considerable editing (search and replace-mania) and some knowledge of what means what in the files.
Now, there are not many programs that can export SMS as .xml for WinMo (at least that I've found), but there are loads that can backup/restore XMLs for Android. Unfortunately none have the precise same XML setup as SMS Exporter so simply importing a SMS Exporter file will likely yield errors and issues.
I wish some code wiz would have a look at this and make a working solution, it should be pretty easy, even simply some kind of script could be run on a computer, to convert a SMS Exporter xml to something readable by one of the several capable Android apps.

Hi! Use sprite transfer. It's totally free and very efficient. I used it to transfer all PIM data and bookmarks from my HD2 to my Desire. Seems to work fine to transfer from Symbian, Blackberry and WinMo to Android. ;-)
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Thanks for the tip about Sprite Backup, thought it cost money, but things must have changed since I last used it years and years ago. If it works, we're golden (too late for me though)
I'm sorry, it's not Sprite Transfer as I wrote, but Sprite Migrate. It's totally free and available there:

Replace WorldWideWeb by " www "
May help others...

Be prepared for it to start hiccuping when you try to browse that many messages. I've probably sent and received about 6-7000 with one of my mates over the years (guessing 1,5-2mb worth of text), when I enter that thread from the message app the device needs to think for a few seconds Need something like "hide (not delete) older messages", but I haven't found a setting or app that can do that. Checked out Handcent SMS, it's faster browsing messages and hides older messages, only problem is, when clicking "show older", it only shows sent, not received. Sort of takes the point out of threaded SMS.

I used "SMS Migrator" (http://a.baole.org/home/sms-migrator)
Can I just ask why you want to keep all these messages? Surely all of them can't be that important! I get it if its a pretty girl, or a message that has some personal meaning, but surely you can't re read all of them!
Why don't you just create an website from the xml and bookmark the url? You could have a link for each contact then. In fact if someone wants to tell me what each xml category contains and its heading, ill knock u up something searchable in php.

Hello. Is there a way to split up an SMS thread, like start a new one with someone you know?
My phone has been extremely slow when I open the conversation I've been having with my SO. I haven't deleted it because I see it as precious memories I would like to save and also go back to in case I forget a useful fact.
Finally, is there a way to backup your messages, with pictures and emojis, on the PC? I've tried a few free SMS backup programs, but they save it as some weird file type that can only be imported and viewable by the App itself on a phone. Is there a way to save a SMS log that can simply be viewed on the PC?
Thank you if anyone can help!
