Hello Guys,
I just got a HTC Desire and I really like this cell phone.
But I have a problem with my SMSes.
Before, I got a HTC Diamond and I had allot of text messages on it.
So, I found a sollution to backup my SMSes from my Diamond to my new Desire.
What I did: I downloaded SMS Exporter 0.5 and made a XML file. I opened this XML file with my Desire.
Everything worked, I got my SMSes back.
But some SMSes (from the same person/number) are separeted from eachother. Sometimes I got 3 different conversations, but they all are from the same number.
So, my question is: can I join them togheter and edit my inbox?
Besides that, I got problems if I push the send button, it doesn't response (in the conversation screen). The only thing what works is to set up a new sms in a different windows.
I only have this problem with contacts who are "backupped". So, with new contacts everything works.
I really want a sollution for this
Thanks in advance,
Frank

it sounds like the backup file is either not compatible or is corrupted.
i'd recommend deleting the sms from your desire and use a different program to backup your smses to your desire
This is very much possible, but the right apps do not exist at the moment.
I (actually my better half too) have successfully transfered my 11600 SMS messages (almost 3mb uncompressed) from several generations of WinMo phones (thanks to PIM Backup!) to my Desire using SMS Exporter v0.5 and SMS Backup & Restore. However, the XML file produced by SMS Exporter is not identical to the ones SMS Backup likes to "eat", so they require considerable editing (search and replace-mania) and some knowledge of what means what in the files.
Now, there are not many programs that can export SMS as .xml for WinMo (at least that I've found), but there are loads that can backup/restore XMLs for Android. Unfortunately none have the precise same XML setup as SMS Exporter so simply importing a SMS Exporter file will likely yield errors and issues.
I wish some code wiz would have a look at this and make a working solution, it should be pretty easy, even simply some kind of script could be run on a computer, to convert a SMS Exporter xml to something readable by one of the several capable Android apps.

Hi! Use sprite transfer. It's totally free and very efficient. I used it to transfer all PIM data and bookmarks from my HD2 to my Desire. Seems to work fine to transfer from Symbian, Blackberry and WinMo to Android. ;-)

Thanks for the tip about Sprite Backup, thought it cost money, but things must have changed since I last used it years and years ago. If it works, we're golden (too late for me though)
I'm sorry, it's not Sprite Transfer as I wrote, but Sprite Migrate. It's totally free and available there:

Replace WorldWideWeb by " www "

Be prepared for it to start hiccuping when you try to browse that many messages. I've probably sent and received about 6-7000 with one of my mates over the years (guessing 1,5-2mb worth of text), when I enter that thread from the message app the device needs to think for a few seconds Need something like "hide (not delete) older messages", but I haven't found a setting or app that can do that. Checked out Handcent SMS, it's faster browsing messages and hides older messages, only problem is, when clicking "show older", it only shows sent, not received. Sort of takes the point out of threaded SMS.

I used "SMS Migrator" (http://a.baole.org/home/sms-migrator)
Can I just ask why you want to keep all these messages? Surely all of them can't be that important! I get it if its a pretty girl, or a message that has some personal meaning, but surely you can't re read all of them!
Why don't you just create an website from the xml and bookmark the url? You could have a link for each contact then. In fact if someone wants to tell me what each xml category contains and its heading, ill knock u up something searchable in php.

is there somehow some software witch can easely backup all incomming/outgoing sms's ? ? ?
like,
downloading the conversations from the phone to my pc ?
ore sync. it somehow??
Pim Backup is all you need....

Een geluk dat er slimme Belgen bestaan hé ;-)
I often recommended PIMBackup, but several times users in other forums reported incomplete restores with backup, especially with larger amounts of SMS. So I would not bet on it. I use Sprite Backup, but maybe you wanna give the free Mobile Express http://www.efficasoft.com/mobileexpress/index.html a try. It is sort of a Outlook Express for SMS, you can move SMS to a backup folder, and of course also send/receive from your desktop PC.

For me, PIMBackup has allways done the job (even though I had 1000+ sms/mms to recover after backup).
But, like with any other apps, there will allways be some problems on particular devices/ROMs.
Grtz,
Degake
Maybe try myphone.microsoft.com ? Works for me.
Jeyo Mobile Companion is awesome!
It lets you download the messages, back them up and restore them with the threaded sms in place..
I haven't had any issues so far, but I don't use it a huge amount, just to reply to sms's from the pc while the phone is connected

By the way.. Dutty's ROMs ROCK!! (Just thought I'd add that in since I've not said it anywhere else )
I eassely exceed over a 1000+ sms a month, so i'm realy searching for a nice app what does the trick.. i'll be watching this tread and will be trying a few suggestions

The Microsoft MyPhone service would handle this nicely. You can set the options to sync when when ever there is change on the device meaning your SMSs can be uploaded to the web as soon as they arrive.
You can also use MyPhone to back up contacts, calendar, music and pictures. It's still a 'work in progress' service but I wouldn't be surprised to see it integrate with Live Mesh and (hopefully) Outlook so it can become an Exchange Service for Joe Public.

I'm not sure what SMS app you use but Vito just came out with an update for their SMSChat app. You can now backup your sms in the settings within this app...no need for any other software!
I've used POWERSMS and worked fine for me.
Ciao

this one is free, and offcourse, for me being dutch, freeware does the trick better
haha
no kidding, i'll be testing the lot, as soon as i got them. i will be ceeping my eyes open, buth this one did the trick nicely!
Sadly it doesn't work with "conversations", that's the only thing missing, you'll have to sort all messeges by date, sender, or size.
Shurely if you export all messeges sorted by time it somehow looks like a conversation.
i'll be trying the other options now
I was using SPB Mobile Shell 3 on my last phone, and loved the ability to grab contact photos for my friends from Facebook. Is there any way of doing this with the TP2? If not, is there any way of using that part of SPB Mobile Shell functionality without losing TouchFlo?
TF3D gives you the ability of creating a favourite contacts list and allows you to connect to facebook for photos, it also gives mini updates and birthday information which is pretty handy.
I tried this one unsuccessfully. It listed my Facebook friends, etc. but when I tried to grab the photo, it just had the default picture with a Facebook icon on it
Works great here! Dutch version.

Yes, it does only use the Default photo. Try a program called BookSync, think this gives you more options but the developer is really good, so will adapt the program to suit needs most of the time.
i find the facebook integration on tflo3d excellent, would be nice to be able to set a different update option (its every 2 hours and i cant see a way of changing that) but the way it pulls photo and a little bit of info is great and works really well.
which facebook app are people using?
I'm using standard TF3D interface, working well
I'm using v1.0.0.7 of the "official" facebook app (i.e. the downloadable app from facebook.com). It's supposed to integrate with the WM phonebook but I can't find any menu options for that (e.g. to download photos, personal details, etc). Has anyone else managed to work out WM contact integration with this app??
the built in application didn't work for pictures, but I got tip for a SkyBook as per here http://www.magnifoca.com/download_skybook.html and it worked .. so now I got finally all the pictures updated
My problem with BookSync is that it requires .net 3.5.
Why??? It can't possibly need that.
Well it's strange, on most of my contacts the integrated app works fine. But for some contacs which 100% have a pictre, it just doesn't fetch it. The contact is linked, but the photo just not shown. Anyone has the same problem? or even better a solution?

Usually happens when you're too quick at linking the contact then leaving that contact and going to the next screen. Go back into the contact andclick on updates. Then click the menu on the right and click on the "Get Photo" again and stay in that page, it should bring it down.
Anyway to avoid having TF3D erase my original picture from teh profile with the facebook one ?

Yeah, you just untick click "Get Photo" when linking the contact in TF3D
Thanks. I was not even daring to try
Ok Guys , here is an important question
I have about 177 friends that are on my TP2 phone book and also on my facebook.
It's a pain in the back to link each persons profiles to the phone book of the TP2.
Imagine you hard reset TP2 , you must do all this linking one by one again and again.....
Is there a way to Copy to facebook links to each dedicated peson. I would like to copy this file and overright the new file after a hard reset or phone change.
For example I also have a Touch HD with Rhodium Rom on it, when I moved all my contacts fom HD to touch Pro 2 , the facebook links did not transfer so I had to re-link this 177 persons one by one.
There are some facebook files, I copied some of them, overwrote the existing files but it didn't work.
I'm 100 % sure when there is a new ROM for the TP2 all of you will be looking for the same answer, let's find a solution for this now before it's too late )))

+1 to this suggestion.
However, if you sync it with your PC, shouldn't you be able to re-sync everything, including FB links? No?
Alternatively, there is a program I found called PIMBackup (google it! XD) that might do the trick of saving your contacts and their FB links in the event of a hard reset, but I honestly don't know, since I haven't hard reset my device as of yet.
I've been there , I ve done that
Outlook Synch or PIM BACKUP or Sprite Backup - NOTHING HELPS !!!!
All Facebook links to your contacts are disappeared............ when you hard reset your phone, image upgrading to other HTC Touch phone, same story, everything is gone.... You must re link all your facebook contacts to your TP2 contacts.
It's same with Diamond 2 and guys who use HD with Rhodium/Diamond Roms.
We need a solution for this !!!!!!!
Any body got an idea for this problem ???
We'll loose all facebook links to our contacts after a hard reset !!! How to backup and restore them ?
Hi,
Anyone know how to transfer SMS from Windows Mobile 6.x to Android 2.1?
WM app and Android app which can export/import SMS to certain format that both can understand?
Thanks.
Would it be possible to transfer texts from a "dumb phone" to my Android, e.g. by saving the texts to my SIM-card?
This is what I found:

And there is also paid app:

Great find, thanks. I've just been through the entire process with sprite migrate and at no point did it prompt me to pay.
I was gonna ask this question about SE c905 sms to desire but then rememberd about myphoneexploer which can export sms from sony ericsson phones in various diff formats. should find 1 app that can import them onto desire. only issue with mpe is it dnt always save sent message times and dates so the chat like sms system on c905 wont transfer properly to desire as sent messages wud be in the wrong order.
I just did too It worked perfectly.
And I realize that this is still BETA version, that's why we dont need to pay.
The software will be expired on July 2010.

Wouldn't work for me. PC software came up with an error straight away when try to convert Can't believe there's so few options with regards transferring data between operating systems.
Hey guys,
I've got an annoying problem with my touch pro 2. For some reason, text messages in the sent folder are not sorted properly. For example, if i choose to sort them by "from" option (which is supposed to sort messages by contacts' names), all messages get jumbled up and i see several texts from contact X, then a few texts from contact Y, then again a few messages from contact X, then Y, and so on.
I also noticed that when i search for a keyword in my sent folder by typing that word, it doesn't find all the matches, but it only finds some of them.
One more thing is that i tried this with the sent folder of a new touch pro (Fuze), and i got the same problems! So i guess its not a problem with my device....but anyhow i am using the latest official HTC rom.
I just wanted to mention once more that this is a problem with the sent folder only, inbox folder works flawlessly.
I really appreciate it if you guys can perform the same steps and see if you have similar issues...or if you might know or can think of a possible solution for this sorting problem, i appreciate it for sharing it with me
PS: I've posted a similar thread in the Fuze section as well (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728299).
has anybody tried sorting messages by "From" to see if it works?.....
Hmm, haven't tried it (not that easy on the new HTC messaging client), but in the Sent Items folder, the From field would be your own name... for all messages. It probably uses time/date as a second sorting criterion.

thx for replying but what do you mean by this?
basically all i wanna do is to create a backup file for messages of individual contacts....so i have to sort them somehow and put specific messages (from each contact) together in one folder...
so do you know of a prog that does this for me so that i dont have to do it manually?
thx alot dude
I would like to merge text messages located on 4 devices:
1. WM5 phone
2. WM6.1 phone
3. Another WM6.1 phone
4. WM7 phone.
How do I do this?
I would like for all messages to be merged into one file, threaded and easily accessed for archive purposes. I didn't forward my WM5 messages to WM6.1 because that seemed unreliable when I researched it when I first got the WM6.1phone and searching now still gives various processes and I don't know if any will work moving forward to WM7. I would prefer not to send everything to a Gmail account and have my data mined...so...how do I do this?
I don't have the WM7 phone yet, but will. And, I have 20,000+ messages... I know some messages I have are duplicates (on the WM6.1 phones) so would like for the process/software to check for duplicates.
I doubt I would want to load the whole file on my WM7 phone as I am sure it would slow things down incredibly, however, an option to do that if I need to would be nice (or on a WM6.1 phone). I am looking for something to be able to access them all on a PC at least.
Thanks for considering this!
G.
For your SMS messages on your WM devices, you can use this software to perform successive backups and restores from your older devices to your current 6.1 device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705. Start with the older one, backup then restore/merge to the next one, backup then restore/merge to the final 6.1 device. I would advise doing a separate backup on all devices just to be safe. Make sure you select the option to merge or add rather than delete messages on the device when restoring. Instructions are on the authors site: http://www.dotfred.net/default.htm
On WP7 however there is no way to backup or restore SMS at this time, dont think there is even a way to sync to an exchange server so accessing your older texts on your WP7 device will have to wait until a solution of some sort is found.
Thanks efjay! I saw that post but was concerned that it was a little buggy and didn't allow for editing on a PC. Also, does it check for duplicate texts--couldn't find it on the author's page nor a search of the original post? I do see it creates duplicate contacts and appointments which isn't encouraging. Of course I can use any of a number of programs for editing on my PC once I get them all in one place but would like to ask the community's help first and not waste time. Have you done what I am trying to do?
Thanks again!
G.
I dont know if it checks for duplicate texts, and the backups I've done have been with emails. Maybe exporting to a text file will make it easier to remove the duplicates.
However here is something else you could try. Download a trial for Resco Backup, which includes a desktop tool to view the backup sets, you may find it useful. I had to use this to restore some emails from my WM device some time back when they got deleted from the server. See how that goes.
