Spigen Neo Hybrid Lumi Review - Galaxy S III Accessories

I got my neo hybrid lumi case in the mail today ( I go the blue and grey) and wanted to do a quick review.
First off all let me say, that so far I haven't had any of the problems with the buttons some people have been talking about. The volume rocker is a bit sensitive, but I haven't had any problem with it changing on it's own. Also simply holding firm on the sides won't push my buttons either, I squeezed all around the edges and didn't have any problems.
This case looks awesome it is very sleek and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. The holes for ports are all cut smoothly and adequately. The port on the camera is the very slightest bit uneven but nothing anyone would probably notice unless they were really looking and definitely not anything that will effect the use of the camera or protection.
The TPU portion of this case is slightly different than I was expecting. It is a bit harder and less flexible than I expected. My biggest problem with the case is that the TPU is very slick. It offers very little if nothing at all in the way of grip.
As far as protection goes, I haven't dropped my case or done anything extreme, but the case seems to offer very decent protection especially considering how sleek it is. The back and corners are well protected and feel pretty confident that if I did drop it I wouldn't have any scratches or major damage on my phone. There is a nice lip around the front screen to give a buffer if it were to be set down on it's face. The case fits snug and I don' think would fall off if dropped.
Overall I am very happy with this case, I was hoping for a bit more grip, but I really can't complain considering how good it looks and the protection I'm getting

I had one of these for my iPhone 4 and the plastic shell snapped when I was taking it off.
How dangerous/sturdy is it on the GS3 version?

It is fairly rigid, but I have taken mine on and off a couple times and no problems so far. I have been leaving the hard plastic attached to the tpu part which doesn't require it to bend much though

Awesome. Went on perfect. The slightest bit of tack compared to glass. Barely visible at all

My screen protector doesn't fit in the least. It covers part of the front facing camera and yet there is ample space at the right of the home button. If you can imagine that, you'll understand just how off mine is. It goes on well but my cut outs are quite off.
I also have the button issues. I just got mine today. Throwing an email to them tonight.

Just got mine as well and it is beautiful but the buttons are super sensitive to the point it becomes quite annoying. I will be sending a small to sgp to see if they can do anything about it otherwise it's going back.

I got this case a few days ago and immediatley noticed the volume button sensitivity issue as soon as I installed it. The issue I experianced is that any time I put any pressure anywhere near the volume rocker, it would depress the button and raise/lower the volume. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but no matter what I did the issue remained. Emailed SPG and they requested photos and or video of the problem. They also wanted to know which S3 varinat I had. Hopefully I just got a bad one because I think it is a nice case otherwise.

Yup that's exactly what happened to me. I was the one who 1st posted the issue and now after a couple of days I got use to the sesnsativity of the buttons and where not to squeeze but I will be contacting them I think that's way to much for me to let slide for such a high quality case. I still slip at times and it's just annoying have to hit the back button every time you press the power button for to long and getting the shut off option when you are in the middle of something.

why dont you guys remove the case and push outward on the inside of the volume rocked portion to stretch it out a little bit.
use something small to get right in there

yeah i have the same color!! I thought I broke the case cuz it got dissembled. Have no problem with it so far.

So can anyone genuinely recommend this case? Ive been in two minds about gettting it and from what Ive read elsewhere and here its had mixed reception, some people have no issues and love it others feel its just about bin worthy and recommend grabbing a cheap tpu one of ebay.

I've had mine for about two weeks now and haven't had too many issues with the volume sensitivity. Occasionally it happens after I've taken the case off and put it back on but then I just adjust the case and it doesn't happen anymore. I can squeeze both sides near the rocker and power button and they will not activate and when changing the volume the controls don't stick.
I did think the case was going to be a little thicker than it is and I doubt the plastic frame adds much more protection. This is one reason I'm debating buying another case with a little more protection (commuter/aegis/active type case).
I do like the looks of the case, which is one of the reasons I bought one instead of sticking with the Diztronic cases I have which are also pretty good.

So I received this case today (I live in Australia, postage takes forever). I have issues with the sensitivity of the buttons as they often stick. I've emailed Spigen about what they will do but I'll probably just take a razor or something to the inside buttons and wear them down a little.
On a positive note though, the packaging is amazing and the case feels like it is sturdier than my cheap tpu case from Ebay. It also looks great.

Yo,
I had one of these bad boys for my Incredible S so ordered one a few days back for the One X.
I've just realised something. With this case on, you lose the connectivity of the rear docking port (little metal dots) or I presume you do anyway.
E.G you wouldn't be able to use this dock I don't think
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-cr-s650-desktop-cradle-with-speakers-for-htc-one-x-p34381.htm
Can anybody clarify?
You can't use a dock with any case, so no point having holes
As HTC whore says you cant use any case with a docking station you would just remove the case to use the dock then put it back on when going out with your phone
I have this case, so hard to take it off!
Picked one up from the Blackpool store this morning, will be taking it back for a refund tomorrow. Daren't even fit it, it's that tight a fit. If it's tight to get on I doubt I'll get it off. The phone is pretty slim and I have visions of snapping it !!
It's not hard to take off at all, I've put mine on and off a few times
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Indeed, the case isn't hard to take on and off. If anything I had to take it on and off only to line up the grooves for the speaker hole and made sure the edges weren't squished down. The case is nice but only drawback is how much lint/dust it attracts on the rubber/silicon part.
I agree only drawback is the dust etc om the rubber section but for the protection it offers I am happy

That's a very generalised statement, and you come accross pretty arrogant if I'm honest ........ If thats true why do the official HTC cases have a cut out for the Pogo port ?
Also, Mine isn't straight on the bottom edge. Is anybody elses like this?
The hard plastic part is almost wavey on the bottom, this stops the soft rubber sitting properly - Got pictures if needs be

I have emailed you guys but I bought the case from Amazon so not sure where I stand there.
I have also noticed - the "Lock/Unlock" rubber on the inner case does not 100% line up with the actuall button on my phone. I would say its around 3-4mm over to the left, It still covers around half the button so it does press but it's not as responsive as it should be and I am always pressing my button on one side (Could eventually cause a problem)
I am begining to think my case may be a clone - Another thing I have notice is the hard plastic part is nowhere near as grippy as my last case mate case. It's kinda slippy.
Build quality on my last case mate case was amazing - this one is below average , at best.
I tried to get it on video - in the loo at work, sorry about that haha.
I had to use front camera and a mirror as I don't have another camera on me atm
I marked the CaseMate button A and the phone button B
It's quite hard to see but you can make it out

Disappointing SGP Neo Hybird Case: Common popping up issue of the back

I bought 2 SGP Neo Hybird Cases 1 months ago.
1 for myself and another one for my girlfriend.
Mine is in silver color while my girlfriend's one is in red
Initially it fits well, look good.
The silver one has a different texture from the others, which is more slippery. So if you want a tight grip, then don't get silver.
But then bad thing occurs after 2 weeks.
The black silicon inner case deformed as you can see in the picture and no longer fit the back of the phone, which totally ruined the grip and texture of the case. The case popping is just annoying.
I then called the authorized dealer in Hong Kong and send them pictures of my case as you can see in this post.
They reply, saying that they are not providing any warranty for this case, and the silicon used is prone to deformed upon heating.
They asked
"Did you put your phone in pockets of your pants or charge your phone with the case on?"
I was shocked when the customer service asked me this. This is so ridiculous. It seems that these cases are really prone to getting out of shape. I never had a case that would deform just by putting the phone in pockets or charging the phone with case on.
I didn't do anything to overheat my phone. I did use customized ROM, the AOKP, and franco kernel. I only used milestone versions which should be stable. I never overclock my phone, but the case just deformed.
It does not seem to be a single issue.
My girlfriend's one is fine at 2 weeks, but now it starts to deform similarly to mine. Please be reminded that it is just 1 month since I purchased the cases.
I know that some people fancy about this case, yet I didn't see any review posted here.
This is what I experienced with 2 cases of the SGP Neo Hybird.
I think it does look good, but it doesn't last at all.
Oops, ya. The dealer promised to reflect my issue to SGP, but I got no reply after more than 1 week. So no good customer service and no warranty, and the case is easily deformed while the price is high. So I would discourage you guys from getting this.
It's one of the most regretful purchase I've had.

Updated on 14/6/2012
After looking at the replies, quite a number of people reported the same issue while a relatively few said theirs were fine.
OK I could be a little biased as mine have the problem. So see the replies here. Still take note that it's like a problem reporting thread so I might gathered more negative comments in this post.

Yeah I recommend the Ultra Hybrid as well... I did a review on it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659677
On my video I actually mentioned why I wouldn't recommend the Neo for that exact reason. I hope they refund you!
Where did you get the cases from? Are you sure they are not fakes?
i think the iPhone cases have also had a similar issue, i had the neo hybrid before selling it and getting the Ultra hybrid. it feels a tiny bit thinner around the edges and more grippy as the silicone is around the edges.
Pretty sure the looseness has been posted about. It does get worse with heat but mine is not nearly as bad, however I have the Verizon version with the extended battery. If you have the gsm version go with the ultra hybrid, it has better reviews.

Yes I'm sure they are not faked. The case packing have the authorized dealer's logo and SGP HK dealer have seen my recept and regarded it as real.
What I feel bad is not only the quality of the cases, it's how the company handle defect products.
They showed no eagerness to solve my problem.
A case that is known to be deformed easily is still selling on their website.
People complain and get no reply.
That's SGP.
Only if you have perfect confidence on a specific product from SGP or your have no similar choice, or else I would try products from other companies instead.
Hope all of your ultra hybrid continue to function as intended.
Why dont you do this? You said sgp got no reply.

HHI Clear flexible TPU case for $.99

So, I went on a limb and ordered this:
http://www.handhelditems.com/matte-back-clear-flexible-case-p-201349.html
I would say I hope I don't regret it, but it was $.99 + about $3 for shipping. It hasn't shipped yet, but they provided a tracking number last night.
It's clear, has a cutout for the power button it appears, and I hope it works well. Just worried about it stretching out like the silicone on my current phone did. I'm not that familiar with TPU, so hoping that's not an issue.
Edit: I just got this case. It shipped in about 5 days by ups. It very thin but also makes me unsure if it'll absorb any impact at all. The first thing I noticed I think back is frosted, not completely clear. It's also not curved, but flat all around. I'm curious how well this will fit. The frosted back has a subtle texture to I as well, make it comfortable to hold and not slippery. The power button and all ports are exposed, only the volume buttons are covered and they feel stiff.

The TPU case on my Galaxy S Captivate is still fine after almost 3 years. No stretching whatsoever. I don't take it on/off often though, so that may shorten the life. It is certainly not like the silicone I have seen on other cases (specifically a GS3 Defender case that a friend has) which is very loose and has already been replaced once or even twice.

This is encouraging. Could be a dollar well spent.
It's definitely not a bad purchase for $1. The only thing you need to be aware of with TPU cases like that is they retain heat, which can be really crappy if you're doing some hardcore gaming or have the phone sitting on your dash. As far as protection goes, my requirement is that the case has a lip that comes out a bit from the face of the phone. That way if I drop it face down my screen (hopefully) won't get scratched.
Does anyone know if AT&T stores have any HTC One cases / screen protectors yet.
OP - thanks for the case link. I picked one up also.

I haven't been using this case much because I preferred my Speck clear case - well, the rubber/silicone trim around the volume buttons and usb port are streatching badly... so I put this $1 tpu case on instead finally. Dropped my phone on the asphalt last night from just below my shoulders. Phone landed on a corner and did a few flips. No damage what-so-ever. Not even a dent on a corner. Also have a Rhino Shield MK II on too, so if there would have been any screen damage, the shield did it's job well too.

Don't buy the Double Dip Flip!!!

Hi
I just thought i would share my experience after a month with the official DDF case, a case that is lacking in both design and durability. I got the case free of charge when i took out my contract with Vodafone and put it straight on the phone as soon as soon as it left the box and that's where the 1st issue came up, the case didn't actually close! Laying it on a flat surface just resulted in the the front of it springing open as there is nothing to keep it closed however after a few days it was worn in a bit and sorted itself out. Also for £25 the quality isn't that great.
After a week i took the phone out the case and to my horror it was badly scratched on the back due to tiny bits of grit getting caught in there and this is purely down to the design as there are 2 slits on the back which allows it to go into a stand but they let small pocket stuff in and if they are solid in any way they will get pressed between the case and the phone resulting in scratched aluminium. Luckily i got a replacement phone due to another issue.
I have had it on my new black One for a couple of weeks now whilst i get round to getting a new one however i have been cleaning it out daily to ensure it doesn't happen again however the case has just started falling apart. The rubber trim around the case has all peeled off and the matte finish is peeling off too, leaving a shiny plastic underneath and the red suede interior is now a dull black on some parts.
This is the worst case i have ever had for a phone and this is only with 4/5 weeks worht of use. I would strongly suggest people spend there money on a different case.

They look good, hadn't seen them before and reasonably priced too. However, I've already gone for the Otterbox Commuter which is cheaper than this POS HTC case
I have pretty much the same problem. I love the case, I love the look of it, but it's coming undone around the edges...
Same situation here with mine.
Red felt is going black, the rubber edge has all come off and stuff keeps getting caught on the back. luckily it hasnt scratched my baby but it is annoying.
Any suggestions for a replacement case that does the same as this? I love how it folds into a stand
I have had this problem with almost every case I have ever had. That is why i put a full bad shield invisible shield on my phone and then put them in the case.
I also received the case free with my contract phone so i decided to use it until i bought a case that i liked. I used it for 4-5 weeks and the case still looks quite new. Obviously the red felt has faded a bit but that was expected. The only real problem i saw was that the Microphone hole didnt line up properly with the phone's Mic hole which is a bit stupid.

I bought this before reading reviews.
I agree that durability is poor, and have had peeling. Luckily not had scratches.
With regard to last point about Mic hole there's an updated version that fixes this.
I got updated replacement sent free, without requesting, from HTC accessories UK.

Had this case since 2 weeks ago, first problem was that the hole at the bottom was not aligned to the microphone hole properly (which greatly affected call quality) so I had to manually align it. The back leaves two light grey streaks on the back of my black HO from where the slits are, but with a good wiping they disappear. The red felt is starting to fade as well. Planning to replace it when the fixed version of the Poetic Atmosphere comes back in stock at the end of the month.
Thanks for heads jo mate. Will not buy

The other case HTC makes for the ONE
is an excellent case. It's a plastic shell case with two speaker covers which lock the phone in from the bottom and the top. Great fit, great feel, great case. 1 outta to ain't bad I guess.

This maybe?

Is HTC.com the only place to buy this case? I want to grab one today but fear ordering direct and waiting a few weeks (it's backordered) is the only way to get one.
Do any of the carriers or Best Buy carry this exact one?
Edit: Sprint had them. It's a nice case!
Yep

ericshmerick linked the right one. Also, the other case HTC makes for the ONE should tell you everything you need to know since HTC only makes TWO cases for this phone, thus if you've used the power of deductive reasoning it would've taken you to http://www.htc.com/www/accessories/htc-double-dip/ which is a great case. Looks much better on the phone itself too.
You're welcome.
Eric, thanks for the link. AeroSatan, my powers of deductive reasoning tell me you're an ass. How'd I do?

Simple and keeps the look of the phone too and the colour.
My DDF has scratched the top of my aluminium due to debris from either my pocket or something else getting in, marks aren't very big but they're ugly and I can see them.
Really p*ssed me off, and seeing as the DDF should cost £30 in a phone shop i think it's a joke.
As for the other DD case, man it is ugleeeeeey, it looks like a sad one eyed cartoon. Feels cheap and nasty.
FYI I have both the DD cases.

OtterBox Armor Review

Bought this case new from ebay knowing about its few problems being reported like the proximity sensor, call problems, and audio issues, but still preferred this over the lifeproof simply for its protection. When i first received it, my initial reaction was "wow, its here, and its HUGE!" But i carefully disassembled it and clean it out just in case, water tested it (passed), dried it off, and finally put my phone in its new suit of armor. It really made the phone huge, and i mean huge, but i honestly dont mind the added bulk because of its substantial protection and it still feels very comfy in hand and doesnt hinder the phones functionality at all. Speaker for music also plays very loudly and crystal clear unlike other reviewers have stated. I think its a great case to buy and kind of essential if you have a very physically active life. Now to the cons (although their aren't many): Unlike many other reviewers of the white version have stated, i dont have call proximity issues, only thing that happens related to proximity is when i turn the phone over to face down while playing music, it pauses, but thats expected because i had that motion option enabled. Next, phone calls work fine and i hear people just fine, but the caller on the other end may have a problem hearing you sometimes. But it rarely happens and most times they can hear you. Easy fixes are bluetooth and earphones. Lastly, the home button definitely requires more pressure to press and the menu/back "buttons" are a little harder to get to but you'll get used to it. Thats the only thing "wrong" with this case honestly and its still excellent to have. I would highly recommend it. If you dont mind a little bulk, get it. Again, great great case :good:
I have a brand new one in original packaging from otterbox if anyone wants, contact me through dm or 6785162209
Personally speaking, at that kind of bulk, I'd rather shove in a 7200mAh Anker. Protection is nice and all but severely handicaps the phone IMO. If you like bulk, might as well triple your battery life.
Furthermore, if it does get scratched/cracked/broken, it's fairly easy to replace (for most members here). For example, you can swap the camera lens for a few bucks if it does get scratched.
I've had my GS3 for almost two years now. Been completely nude the whole time. No screen protector, nothing. There are many surface scratches on the screen which you can only see if you look at it while the screen is off under a super, super bright light. Doesn't affect the image quality at all. Outside frame (the gray part) is a little cracked in few places. Not a big deal.
Runs flawless on CM 10.2.1. Undervolted almost 100mV across the board.
I used to be OCD, but decided to save my health instead.

I myself looked for waterproof. I too believe as you do and went naked on previous phones. But now with a toddler and my part time job in swimming pool service, waterproof was the selling point.

I personally liked the armor series for my S3. I only stopped using mine due to needing to put my phone in my pocket and the armor didn't quite fit the bill. I use my lifeproof nud for daily use at work but when out playing around or working at the house I still use my armor series. And you definitely can't beat the otterbox warranty.

Fair enough. I suppose we don't always have ideal circumstances to our liking.

LOL...I love my phone being slim and I can live with scratches. But after a few near misses with my toddler son and getting soaked a couple of times on the job, I decided I would have to give in. Bring without my phone even for a day would screw up my schedule. Amazing how much I depend on it.

I've also bought this case and it turned out to be just what I was looking for. Before I've had Griffin survivor which would be good enough for me except two things, it was not that easy to remove (I prefer naked S3 while not in a hostile environment) and it scratched my S3. After the latter happened I've immediately sold it.
But the reason to post is for everyone with menu/back/home buttons problem. After a proper inspection I've found out that the back cover of the case doesn't give enough support for installed phone. If the phone is fully pushed into the case there is approximately 1.5mm gap between the phone and the back cover. So after first push on menu/back/home button even if the phone is inserted all the way in to the case, the phone backs up a little and that gap moves from the back to the front. In order to solve this problem I've ordered 1.5mm thick silicone sponge to fill the gap between the phone and the back cover. One thing that bothers me about this is that waterproofness of the case might be broken if 1.5mm thick sponge is too much and even bigger problem is how test waterproofness as I don't want to sacrifice my phone. I'll report any pros or cons about my modification. If it solves this problem I'll post some pictures of modification.
I've had the Acase Superleggera Pro Dual Protection Case on my S3 since I bought it and I love it. I've dropped it so many times and not noticed any difference in performance. And it's not super bulky like the other 2 layer cases. It's also less than $10 at Amazon these days.

I tested its waterproof function without phone first and then finally just did it repeatedly with the phone and it hasnt failed me yet, hopefully never. And also ive noticed this gap, i wouldnt recommend filling it because it may compromise as u stated

For everyday protection sure it may be good, but when it comes to 10ft drop, water, being hit, stomped on, and numerous other things, the armor case is the best.

As I've said if not in hostile environment in my case this is mostly dusty air and greasy surfaces, I prefer my S3 naked. So Otterbox Armor is needed.

I tried with 1.5 mm foam and it was just a little too much. Now I am waiting for 1mm which I think it should work. As I've already said, in my case waterproofness is not really needed but I wouldn't like to brake it. Will report again.

I finally got 2mm foam as 1mm is hard to get. 2mm foam goes into gaps between ribs on the rubber on the back cover of the case. So this just might do the trick as the case closes ok.
The for the review, I have an Otterbox Defender and love it to death, but I've been thinking of buying one of these.
i have the Acase Superleggera Pro Dual Protection Case on my S3 and it is great!
Just got my new otterbox armor today!! Love it so far! Any way to tell if it's legit and not a fake? Lol... Paranoid I guess?
