Just want a general consensus about flashing tw Rom and not losing imei? What's the chance and is it best to stick with those for now? And I think I have seen people post that they lost imei after just rooting ?
Thanks in advance

The risk is low, but read up on it to reduce the chance of it happening. Most users are not affected, yet. Although the exact cause is as of now, unknown. So if your nervous, stay stock for now.

I read everyday and hope that someone finds a fix . I just haven't been able to shake the fear because people who just rooted have even lost imei

It almost seems like the luck of the draw. I originally rooted and installed CWM but reverted to stock out of fear of losing IMEI. Decided to rerooted, CWM, and flash WanamLite.
Great ROM..
But like I said, it seems like the luck of the draw. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and only flashing AT&T based roms.
I have made Rom, flashed Rom, odin, kies , and owner of many many devices and never once have had that happen wonder what's new? I wanna flash badly

The one in this parent forums sub forum, try launchers like nova, apex, go, hold the phone differently or move your router or use 2.4ghz not 5g if that applies to you, I've heard wifi fixer helps.

T999 roms should work. Just have a nandroid handy and don't flash any of the Tmobile modems.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
All the T-Mobile roms work on the T999v (I have a t999v on Wind). This includes AOSP roms, TouchWiz and the JellyBean leaks. Same goes for kernels. As mentioned before, just don't touch any radios/modems as they will not work.

Good battery life will be ROM dependent. The ICS roms based on touchwiz should have similar battery life. I also have decent battery life on the AOSP Jellybean roms. The Jellybean touchwiz leaks are a bit more touchy. Some users report lower battery life on some ROMs though it has been improving gradually

That's ypur baseband/modem. It will remain the same when you flash roms. No rom should affect the modem in any way (as far as flashing is concerned).
So yes you can freely flash roms. But do not flash any modems not intended for your model phone!

Exactly. They are on different partitions. When you flash a rom the baseband will remain the same.
The only time this matters is when you are flashing an ota patch. Then you must be full stock, modem and all.

AOSP camera has less features than the touchwiz camera but it's not like you're physically changing the camera itself, so the quality should be the same.

I want to try miui from the i747 cuz the one for the t999 is buggy....
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
The att (I747) MIUI is made by the same guy as the tmobile version.. So whatever problems you're having might be present in that build as well.. personally I've had no problems with it.. But also the newest att MIUI won't work for tmobile..
Other than that, I've seen others in here flash att stuff and be fine.. Just don't flash modems from any other version but your own. Some have said not to flash other versions kernels either.
I've personally flashed att roms and it turned out fine. Just.. Be careful with it..
On a side note, someone in the att forums has made an auto porting script, for making any rom (mostly between the us gs3's) compatible with your version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32555463
if you feel confident in that, you could try that as well
Hope that helped at least a little bit..

I will say that this is one of the ONLY phones that I ever thought about NOT romming but I doubt I will be able to hold back if something really good comes out...Hello, I am Justin, I am a flashaholic!
GOTTA have root access though... Can't have any company telling me what I HAVE to keep on my phone! :good:

Deff agree on that one. But alas, i will miss alot of the OG functions from touchwiz on this phone. Although with GN1, they found work arounds for it. Especially S Note.
My plan is to root as late as I can to avoid messing things up. I figure we won't see an update for a few weeks and by then all the bugs that come along with rooting a phone should be worked out. I really enjoy this phone and can, surprisingly, wait on rooting.

I know when I rooted that if I go to check for a software update it says it won't do it on a modified device so I am pretty sure we won't get OTA's through the rooted devices but you can just wait for someone to post the updated OTA and flash that and your good to go!
Or do you still have stock recovery?
Only rooted for bloat and spyware removal and a nice kernel. But im only flashing stock TW based roms!

Its not hard to root or unroot, although its normal to hesitate on potentially bricking anything as expensive as the GNII.
Just remember, you only have to unroot if you have to take the phone back. 70 bucks on an otterbox has me covered for the occasional slip. As far as flashing concerns, theres generally a way to unbrick everything but lets say the modem (which apparently already has a fix) or system is corrupt, the stock roms and triangle away app are available for flashing and reseting counters respectively.

I've never went through for warranty for a phone I bought outright but for the last company (virgin mobile) when I went for the warranty, I just unrooted the phone and locked the bootloader and it was fine. I don't think they would go all out to check if you rooted the phone. I forgot if they could check or not, but most of the time (IMHO) they wont. Unless they really don't want you to fulfill the warranty.
Well im willing to root lol stock is slow and it lags -_- and I hear some echo. When im on the phone.
Is this rootable?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
That's rootable. I just re-rooted after the update to LL4 two days ago.
I bought my phone in November, which means it's still under warranty - I've rooted and unrooted and rerooted the phone about 3 times now just to make sure I've got the process down and nothing weird happens to it.
The way I rooted that worked for me was to root using CF auto root through ODIN. Then to unroot, I ran Triangle Away, then unrooted through SuperSU full unroot, and for good measure, I ODIN'd the T-mo stock firmware back on the phone. At the end of that process, I was factory reset back to a clean phone with 0 flash counter and status was normal.
So now I'm rocking an unlocked, rooted, stock rom phone, and I love it.

Option 2 doesn't load a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). It just roots the phone, but you'll still have stock recovery. If you want a custom recovery, you'll need option 1.Or, flash the custom recovery separately after you do Option 2.
What about option num.3?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Option 3 only works if you're not on baseband LL4. Once you've updated to LL4, the exynos exploit was closed, so if you're still stock uprooted by LL4, then you'll need to do option 2.
If you're still on valk8, then yeah, you can use option 3.

I assume you're using Android 4.3
I'm having a similar issue on CM10.2 with severe signal disruptions even though it shows up as connected. Apparently it's a problem that exists on the rom itself, so I'd advise going back to stock-based rom or try a different rom that doesn't have this issue.
