Wouldn't it be fine if you just unroot before going through warranty?

Its not hard to root or unroot, although its normal to hesitate on potentially bricking anything as expensive as the GNII.
Just remember, you only have to unroot if you have to take the phone back. 70 bucks on an otterbox has me covered for the occasional slip. As far as flashing concerns, theres generally a way to unbrick everything but lets say the modem (which apparently already has a fix) or system is corrupt, the stock roms and triangle away app are available for flashing and reseting counters respectively.

I am rooted, used cf auto root and gained superSU... then installed CWM (had a chat with my in law and he said to give twarp a try, so decided to go with that (2.3.3.2), then saw Jedi X9 and flashed that... currently waiting for CM10.1 to stabilize so im also looking into the perseus and bullet kernals...
So far today with jedi x and saber_7 kernal my battery went down to 10% off an amazing 8h+ screentime

I've never went through for warranty for a phone I bought outright but for the last company (virgin mobile) when I went for the warranty, I just unrooted the phone and locked the bootloader and it was fine. I don't think they would go all out to check if you rooted the phone. I forgot if they could check or not, but most of the time (IMHO) they wont. Unless they really don't want you to fulfill the warranty.

Well im willing to root lol stock is slow and it lags -_- and I hear some echo. When im on the phone.
Is this rootable?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

That's rootable. I just re-rooted after the update to LL4 two days ago.
I bought my phone in November, which means it's still under warranty - I've rooted and unrooted and rerooted the phone about 3 times now just to make sure I've got the process down and nothing weird happens to it.
The way I rooted that worked for me was to root using CF auto root through ODIN. Then to unroot, I ran Triangle Away, then unrooted through SuperSU full unroot, and for good measure, I ODIN'd the T-mo stock firmware back on the phone. At the end of that process, I was factory reset back to a clean phone with 0 flash counter and status was normal.
So now I'm rocking an unlocked, rooted, stock rom phone, and I love it.

Option 2 doesn't load a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). It just roots the phone, but you'll still have stock recovery. If you want a custom recovery, you'll need option 1.Or, flash the custom recovery separately after you do Option 2.

What about option num.3?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

Option 3 only works if you're not on baseband LL4. Once you've updated to LL4, the exynos exploit was closed, so if you're still stock uprooted by LL4, then you'll need to do option 2.
If you're still on valk8, then yeah, you can use option 3.

Reboot once a day?

I dunno what's wrong with my phone, im getting reboots at least once a day. Sometimes when using YouTube and other times when streaming. I have it rooted stock. Should i send it back for a replacement or wait for JB update hoping it will go away?

I have the older version (1.70) and that worked fine on an ICS ROM, it's the first version that had the Sprint SGS3 as a supported device. Idk if anyone wants it but PM me. Chainfire releases Triangle Away for free on XDA but it's still a paid app so I'm not too sure on the etiquette regarding posting the apk
Oh and your flash counter does not increase by flashing ROMs/Mods/Themes in a custom recovery, it only increases by flashing non official software through Odin. So if you flashed a custom recovery via odin, the counter would increase by 1. But if you flashed a ROM by using the custom recovery, your flash counter will not increase

Exactly! And the tmobile version is almost exactly the same in terms of hardware so you can flash sgh-i747 for sure, and sgh-t999 you just gotta remember to change the apn if your flashing a tmobile rom. Other then that. You cannot flash international roms or sprint roms or any other variant to this baby. But im sure xda will find a workaround to this. Till then Goodluck and take care of that phone

I would imagine that if they do find out, they'll still fix it for free. I doubt the people actually fixing the devices care too much as it doesn't really make a difference to them whether or not it's rooted. Best of luck!
Wouldn't it be ok if you put in a spare, charged battery, and booted into recovery or bootloader and flashed the right rom?

No, even with a spare battery it is highly doubtful that the device will come back to life. He tried to flash an incorrect ROM to his phone and the phone has shut itself down to prevent physical damage to the circuits. i/e Burn outs. This is one of the MAIN reasons to be sure of what you are doing BEFORE you do it.
Patience is an overwhelming virtue when your thinking to flash a non stock ROM. Read it, understand it, ensure it, then do it but ONLY if you are 100% sure of what you are doing.

Take the battery out.... And sim card/sd cards.... And put it in rice for 24 hours.... If you have not already fried the speaker/circuitry then this might help.... Rice absorbed it weight in water 10 times over... Or something like that.... Give that a try and see what happens

Stock random reboots

Hello everyone. My wife has a newly purchased S4 from Tmobile. We rooted it right away and installed TWRP. Everything else is stock. Even kept the bloatware hanging around... She has had some random reboots from time to time not often but like 3-4 times since she has had the phone. Google searches turn up random bits of info so I thought I'd ask the experts here at good olé XDA. I've seen some advice to factory reset but wouldn't that lose root? Also some say it could be SD card related.. There is no common theme to it happening.. I guess we could return it. I was hoping to avoid that though... Any thoughts? Thanks for any help!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes it will lose root but it's better than the phone rebooting itself alot so if it still does it then try to flash a rom and if it still does it it might be the phone then
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Factory reset won't actually loose root. Root stuff is stored in the system while factory resetting wipes the user's data. Factory reset through TWRP would be my first recommendation

What did she recently install? if anything. Some apps will cause random reboots. And the answers here are correct, you will not lose root doing a factory reset.

You're probably getting reboots because of the method you used to root.
I was getting tons of problems with my phone because the way I previously rooted the device.
I used this way and I get absolutely no more problems.
Now, after you root with the above method, you will have to install a custom recovery (I recommend TWRP).
Do that through goomanager.
(Search goomanager in app store, install, open, hit menu, then hit "install custom recovery.)
Hope this helps.

Ah yes the TWRP root method.
That's the faulty method that is causing problems.
Once you odin to stock by following the steps in the thread above, everything will be taken off the phone, it will absolutely work with that baseband, yes.
Use the CF Autoroot method in the video I posted above and follow the steps i explained about goomanager.
You will love being rooted with TWRP from goomanager. You will then be able to flash custom roms which will make the phone a lot speedier and more responsive. In most cases, better battery life also.

Remember that the phone checks for updates using the AT&T servers, if you are not using an AT&T sim, you wont be able to get the update. I would just load a custom 4.3 TW rom, which I'm sure are a lot better than the crap AT&T releases.
Have you tried to Odin to a stock 4.3 ROM.
You might want to try the one click.

Not sure, have you tried plugging it in to a pc using Kies? Do you have an Att sim with you? You could give it a try by using an ATT sim and connecting to wifi

The one click method puts the leaked AT&T 4.3 bulks on it. It is not rooted. If you skip the cf auto root steps you will be on 4.3 non rooted stock.

Agree this is your best option if you want 4.3 non rooted.
It would be helpful if we knew your network provider. It's an ATT unlocked Note 2, are you on ATT?
