Some questions!

Ok so I have a few questions if you guys would allow me to pick your brains.
I have installed cm9.1 on the galaxy s2 (SGH-T989) using clock work recovery. The phone is rooted using superSU. Pretty standard as far as it goes here. However:
<s>1) I have no wifi calling option and its running android 4.0.4 (ICS). Is this normal for this rom or do I need a different kernal or modem/radio to make this work? Because stock has this feature and its really important to keep message/calling costs down and get service in dead zones.</s>
2) I cannot get 4G data. Only "H" and 3G. I got Edge/2G/3G/4G with stock. Is this normal or do I need to do something else to get this to work?
3) What are good custom kernals to use for this phone because I looked on the sticky and there are only three listed and some are discontinued. Also what are the major advantages of a custom kernal over samsungs stock? I.E. What does it add/modify?
4) Do custom radios change signals your phone can pick up? What exactly does changing the radio do?

1)Since no wifi calling is a deal breaker for me I'm going to try a new rom, so! I'm looking at darkside and akop. Any opinions on these roms or experiences you guys have had with these good or bad?

This and stick with stock kernels for now. Different radios work better in different areas, so just try until you find the best one for you.

Haha yea after I got the answer I felt dumb I just never saw the little icon use "H" to explain a radio type and didn't think about that related to 4G as standing for hspa. Also I learned hspa exists using WCDMA. Cool. :victory:

The "H" means HSPA+ which is 4g.
Only Touchwiz ROMs have Wifi Calling (CM9 is AOSP Based)
The best kernel to use is the Darkside Venom Kernel for CM9 AOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775075
As far as radios go they can change the amount of signal. Certain radios make signal better in different areas. I PREFER THE GALAXY NOTE RADIO FOR Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)

Darkside, only tw roms have wifi calling, aosp roms like cm9,10 and aokp dont.

Is there a kernal i can flash with the stock rom that would give me iptables/netfilter?

Custom ROM.. Is it worth ?

Comparing to 4.1.2 stock, should i get Custom rom?
I know this is a personal thing, but i only care about stable and fast rom, and good battery life.. I dont care about customization a lot... I will root it on stock anyway..
So my question is what is the benefit of a custom rom (AOKP for example) at the moment ?
I know this was asked hundreds of times, and sorry But i said i dont need a lot of customization (stock ones are enough for me)

If you need to ask OP, then custom roms are not for you.

If you want customization, that's when you consider custom ROM. Other than that, I see no reason to flash it.

It's actually made to be used as a device to demonstrate stock Android free of any altering from carriers or manufacturer skins.
Custom ROMs is one of the "goodies" that comes along with it.

I did complete wipe, and flashed stock 4.1.2.. If that bores me, ill flash some custom rom...
One more q: Will custom kernel help with battery life/performance when it is combined with stock rom?

Fairly to say, at least 90% Gnex is running third part ROM such as CM,AOKP, ASOP, its based on ROM, even modified stock ROM

IMO, the stock kernel holds its own against the custom kernels as far as battery life and performance go. Where custom kernels help is in custom tweaks like over clocking , changing color profiles, etc.

I dont think you understood me... Dont call me an icab. because my electrical engeneering programmer degree will send it off.. I was talking about major customizations.. Not the regular ones... When i had htc, i flashed custom roms.. Now i have that luck, that i dont have to flash custom aosp rom, cause my stock one is aosp...

[Q] Questions about Telus 4G Samsung Galaxy S II™ X..

Hi all,
I'm going to buy a Telus 4G Samsung Galaxy S II™ X, However, I have some question:
1. Can I unlock the bootloader and install any ROM?
2. What is the latest official firmware? Is Samsung going to issue a JB?
3. How is the battery life?
4. Any advice

1. Yes
2. Telus has released 4.0.3 I believe. JB is supposed to be official for this phone.
3. It's ok, maybe gets through the work day, depending on usage.
4. If you do flash a ROM make sure it's for the t989 and not the international s2.

Only thing I have to add is that the Koodo ROM floating around here doesn't work well with Telus as it has the Koodo AP baked into it by default. I'm loving CM 10.0.0 on this phone.

I'm on Telus and the Koodo ROM is amazing. You just have to manually add the APN (settings are listed in the thread).
CM10 is great too but TW ROMs have better call quality and battery life in my experience.
With Koodo V5 I typically do 2-2.5 hours of screen time, 1 hour of voice calling daily and I'm still over 20% when I plug it in at night.

the official android release is 4.0.4 now thats what I had when I purchased my SGH-T989D from Koodo. Telus and Koodo are practically the same I think?

I'm also planning on buying the T989D. Could someone confirm that on the T989D we can flash any roms for T989 (t-mobile) ?

Yes you can flash any t989 rom. I've only ever used Telus radio tho.

You can also flash anything from the skyrocket forum.. I haven't had mixed results with their roms but they still shouldn't brick ur phone.. It's pretty much the same phone but theirs is LTE

I've never personally tried to flash any roms that weren't made for the t989.....not sure why someone would want to...since there are tonnes of roms made for our device.
If you're new to the phone....I'd stick with t989 roms for now.
The telslu radio is the t989dtlle4.

Yeah I'll stick to T989 roms to be on the safe side. It's gonna take time to try them all out anyway

Hi there i was just wondering if the roms for the SGH-T999 work on the T999L model?

Yes. Just don't flash anything with a modem or firmware. The kernel should be ok. I'm able to flash the T999L kernel on my T999 so it probably works both ways. Not 100% sure though.
Your wifi/wifi calling may stop working on another rom, but I may have a fix for this, so let me know if it does.
Ill be posting a lot more info on the T999L in my thread too, so keep an eye on it!

Only mine. Well ill be updating links in about a half hour or so when I get home.
Other t999l users have flashed other roms though. You should be fine.

what 4.2.2 roms would you recomend?

None. Lol!
Only because they are all cm or aosp based, which I haven't used in a very long time.
Be careful askin for recommendations btw. Quick way to get flamed and thread locked.
Just gotta read the ops and find one that matches what you want.

[Q] pacman rom signal issue

Is any one else having signal issues with this rom
Mine will not lock in just comes and goes
Baseband imei and all are there but signal will not lock in for more than a second

I've had bad signal experience with Probam&PAC, I flashed the XXDMG1 modem, returned to older modem but nothing worked
Now I'm back to 4.2.2 roms and the problem seems to have gone away, I couldn't find any solution when using those 4.3 roms and it got really frustrating

It is very frustrating since this is the place to go for help and all ignore you when you have a problem

I assume you're using Android 4.3
I'm having a similar issue on CM10.2 with severe signal disruptions even though it shows up as connected. Apparently it's a problem that exists on the rom itself, so I'd advise going back to stock-based rom or try a different rom that doesn't have this issue.

Been running it for a very long time and it's truly a platinum rom in every way...LATEST FEATURES/stable/best community IMHO. 4.3 is where it's happening and probam rom could be all you have been looking for

I had tried it on i717 bit just had recently had interest in getting away from tw based roms as I have bee learning alot and still have alot to learn
My goal is to be able to port tw framework to aosp sometime in the future
I love aosp but always miss tx features when I make the move
Sounds great I will give it a shot in the am down loading now
