Barred O2 One X work for Att? - HTC One X

I'm unfamiliar with UK Carriers. Will an o2 smartphone have the 3G bands for att? And what does it mean by barred? is that like a Bad ESN?

Can't answer if it'll work on att or not, barred means the phone as been reported lost/stolen etc. Once reported it gets blocked and cannot be used on that countries networks, I'm sure I read somewhere it should be ok and work in another country though. Hopefully someone can confirm that for you
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

I think it will work elsewhere if its unlocked but blacklisted phones will not work in the country they were blacklisted. So it wont work in the UK

Ah, ok thank you.
If I decide to buy the phone I will come back and let you know if it works or not.

Can you check it before you buy it? Or is it on eBay?

I dunno,do you want to risk buying a stolen phone? After all, you're purchasing from a thief.

That is true I wouldn't buy it personally. Get a new one or a pre-owned one that hasn't been stolen.

Doesn't necessarily mean its stolen or the guy selling is a thief, it could be an insurance claim ie the guy lost it and found after

In which case it becomes the property of the insurance company. Either way, it isn't right.

If its barred in the uk it will work anywhere that's not in the uk

not worth the hassle unless you are broke, but the phone has probably been stolen or someone found it and is trying to make a profit of someone elses back, how would you feel dude if someone stole your phone and sold it abroad

I was quite surprised myself, maybe he was just lucky.
Going back to the original topic maybe the OP could enquire why/how it got barred etc off the seller and if possible trying to find out where he stands if he did buy it

there is nothing to require, simply rrefuse to buy it, and if you are too cheap to buy it or dont have the money, you should wait until you do have the money than being greedy and trying to get a bargain off of someone elses loss (probably someone lost it)
id rather pay more for peace of mind and legitimate sale, id rather not give someone money and let them profit off someone elses loss as i said before

pretty sure discussion of stolen devices is against the rules here(don't argue, if it's blacklisted then it's either stolen or not paid for)
don't be a cheapskate and let the scammers make money..seriously..have some damn morals

I really doubt it.
Did you not see the long thread in FAQ with the guy whining about nobody telling him how to change his IMEI and how its stupid that Tmobile blacklist with people agreeing with him?
If your friend is only gonna use it for wifi just get a kindle fire for her. For 199 that's hella cheap. A blacklisted sgs2 will cost the same or more.

then return it, you should not profit from it..if you reported it stolen and got a new one, the old one is no longer your "property"
if reported lost and then found at a later time... i dont see a problem selling it... AS LONG AS its not sold for more than you paid for your replacement device from Tmobile
so if you paid $150 to have it replaced after reporting lost.... do not sell the device for more than $150 to recover your money..... no way should you profit from it

let see how the system works
you buy a 600dollar phone
pay 7bucks a month for insurance
"loses" it, gets a replacement that cost the firm 400dollars
finds old phone, sell it for 200
insurance company doesn't profit, so insurance is raised
if ever one thought of things the way you do, we won't see any insurance firms around..
Most of the guys don't buy outright.. they pay 200$ for the phone.. with a contract..
But this thread wasn't about discussing .. I wanted to buy one only..
And 150$ is what I had in mind too.. so anyone with an offer??

You didn't factor the monthly insurance payments. If someone has been paying $7 per month for several years without a claim, the insurance company is not losing anything.

Stay away from Chitter Chatter

They have terrible customer service
I sent my one x back because of screen flex and back light bleeding and they say its meant to happen
Then when I get it back it comes back with a scratch on it
Then I send it back for a supposed replacement
All they did was repackage the same bloody phone with new accesores but its still my phone I have had since the beginning
I request all of you to go on www.chitterchatter.co.UK
Go on live chat and copy and paste everything from here and see what they say

I know, can't even cancel my contract now, only way to get away from this company is to sell my one x and cancel the contract. Even worse is half of their employees don't work at weekends.
Also the phone has a different imie to the box. So if I try to get a repair from HTC I can't because the stickers that come in the box don't match the phone. Really pissed with the company. Also have had to pay £14 for postage twice and neither time been refunded

Regarding the handset though yeah it is still with chitter chatter..Have you tried going into one of their stores instead of dealing with over the phone?
Plus i would keep insisting that they replace the phone to you and explain in detail the whole situation you are having..It is unacceptable and you need to sort it out now mate and do not hang the phone until they do it for you...You have to put your foot down..That is the only way these people will get the message

But I somehow don't buy your story. Blocking IMEI is good protection against thieves.
Depending on the situation it can take weeks for an imei to get blocked. It doesn't matter how you got it, matters of it was paid for it not through them ie first payment default or stolen. Tmo will not unlock it. You need to call the cops.

Bad luck? Really? You allegedly chose to purchase a top of the line phone for full price off of Craigslist instead of the T-Mo store. Why in the world would you do that? Something does not make sense.
Anyway it's nice to see that if my phone is stolen, I can block anyone trying to use it. A person in one of the threads who claimed to work for Tmo said they can't really block phones. Guess that poster was wrong.

Bummer dude, if T-Mobile said it was stolen then that's all there is. No way to change that, they block the IMEIs of phones that are reported lost, stolen, and phones on EIP (Equipment Installation Program) that have stopped paying. Best bet is to unlock to AT&T and sell it. I got mine in a trade for my note, but made sure to get the receipt even tho it was a previous customer of mine. Called T-mobile and immediately to have it registered in my name with IMEI to make sure there was no EIP in place. Next time run the IMEI, ask them to go into a T-Mobile store with you instead of meeting them at McDonald's.

What is not to believe? I bought mine off CL too... I didn't want to extend my contract, I have 1 more year with T-mobile then I'm switching to something else (but that's another story). If I bought the phone from T-mobile it would have cost me like $330 + tax - the $50MIR + get locked in to T-mobile for an extra 12 months of service... I bought the phone from someone - Yeah, I paid a little extra, but I have the option of LEAVING T-mobile in 12 months - AS I PLAN TOO, for a cheaper monthly service - so TO ME it was worth the extra up-front cost.
I'm not defending the OP, I'm defending the idea that its shady to buy a high end phone off craigslist or NOT from the dealer. Just because YOU think its ok to FINANCE the extra balance and cost of the phone instead of paying up front for it, that's YOUR CHOICE (or the OP choice) if not then that is also THEIR CHOICE.
I have bought several iPhone's - ALL FOR MUCH MORE THAN THE CONTRACT DISCOUNT PRICE because we have been on T-mobile which doesn't offer the iPhone so the only way to get the iPhone is to buy out right. That might make me stupid, but not shady. :good:
All cellphone carriers in the US must sell phones at their outright price. I just bought my S3 from VZW at $600 full price...Why didn't you just do that?

[Q] T-Mobile Blocked Phone!

I purchased a T-Mobile Galaxy S3 from Negri Electronics. I signed up with T-Mobile for service. It worked great for a few weeks. Then it suddenly stopped working, meaning no phone or data, the device itself of course works fine. So I called T-Mobile and they told me the phone has been blocked, that I should take it back to Negri. Negri is closed now. T-Mobile says if they block a phone it is for fraud or suchlike. What should I make of this? Is Negri selling stolen goods? Anyone here ever have a problem like this? What if Negri won't replace it?

Lmao what a troll this one. 1 u cant use sprint phone on tmobile and even if u were using it on tmobile and sprint blocked it still it would let u use it on tmobile(although thats technically impossible) and as it regards negri they are very clean and dont give a **** about those $600 you paid for that device so they would never sell stolen phone since they have been in business for so long. You sound more like those assholes that order something and switch it with some crap device purchased on craigslist then blame it on the seller which in this case is negri. If i was u i would not even try to commit fraud but if u do i hope negri reports u to the authorities and they kick ur ass in prison because fraud is illegal.
You gotta be careful buying your phone from Nigerian princesses.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
why don't you chill out.
no one can swap anything cause there is an IMEI number that on the invoice, and of course T-mobile has the IMEI number. They probably don't sell stolen phone knowingly but whomever they bought it from either tole it or reported it stolen.
And as I stated above there is not Sprint here, I miss-wrote Sprint (which I had for six years until this round with T-Mobile).

You sound more like those assholes that order something and switch it with some crap device purchased on craigslist then blame it on the seller which in this case is negri. If i was u i would not even try to commit fraud but if u do i hope negri reports u to the authorities and they kick ur ass in prison because fraud is illegal.

Tmobile won't do anything so your better off calling negri.

no one can swap anything cause there is an IMEI number that on the invoice, and of course T-mobile has the IMEI number. They probably don't sell stolen phone knowingly but whomever they bought it from either tole it or reported it stolen.
And as I stated above there is not Sprint here, I miss-wrote Sprint (which I had for six years until this round with T-Mobile).

Hahahaha sure hahahahahaha dude negri sells the latest smartphones in the market all people value negri for its customer service and its owner personally deals with every single order and out of who knows how many millions sales a year they make they need to sell u a stolen phone so can make a $600 straight profit? U remind me of this kid trying to screw with dailysteals and decided to post on xda saying he received an empty box and trying to make his claim kinda more believable. Anyway good luck i wont post again because iknow all u trying to do is grab some attention so that this becomes huge and possibly negri get scared that their image might get hurt if people hear about this

In all honesty, I think you're SOL if tmobile wouldn't do anything.
Do you have proof of purchase? Also does the receipt have the IMEI number? If so t-mobile ought to be able to help if you have this evidence.
and if that doesn't work..
I assume you're in MIAMI.. but if you happen to be in LA you can bring proof and your phone in person to the company.. not so sure how legit the location is but this is what pops up on google:
Address: 130 McCormick Ave, Suite 101, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Phone: (888) 358-6358 x4
Hours:
Mon-Fri 7am–6pm
Sat-Sun Closed
Perhaps you work for Negri, or maybe you are just board and stupid but no one said that -
phone cost $600
that they would be making $600 profit if it was stolen
that they knew that it was stolen
The fact is that the phone has been reported stolen or something similar.

Not disagreeing with your view if tmobike is not flaming.
OP, go straight to Negri. They will sort it out. Likely one of their distributors screwed up.

I am in touch with Negri, they claim they will resolve it but are dragging their feet. Apparently I'm the only Negri customer with whom this has occurred .

I'm not sure I believe that. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that this had happened to someone else, but it was a while ago. Negri resolved it but still, that's ****ty business.

If they don't fix it, file a complaint with your credit card company and ask for you money back.
For sure.
They are saying they will fix it. First they wanted me to pay for return shipping! Hell no, you sell a faulty (stolen?) product and I pay for shipping it back! (Not saying they stole or knew it was stolen, but that the risk they take when they buy - if I wanted the risk I could have gone about it on Craigslist.) But I'm still very pissed off cause they finally sent me a label, and it was for FedEx Ground, very slow, so I have to be out for 2 weeks without a phone!

[Q] Phone with bad IMEI/ How to make most profit from it?

Ok, so due to new IMEI policy by t-mobile, this galaxy s4 I bought on craigslist brand new worked perfectly for 2 weeks and then the guy reported it stolen and got a new one (insurance fraud.) I'm having the man prosecuted, but that is largely for revenge purposes. Me getting my money back is slim chance. What should I do with the phone to make the most money to buy a new one? Can I sim unlock it and sell it for use on other carriers? Or are imei blocked on all? Can I break it down and sell parts? Do people buy those? haha. I'm just looking to make the best of a ****ty situation, help appreciated Thanks in advance

I think best is try to get it unlocked and sell it overseas.
Once AT&T and T-Mobile merge their blacklist it probably won't work on any US GSM carrier.
There is really no protection now for the second hand buyer when it comes to GSM phones. The original owner will most likely file a claim for the phone as being lost/stolen so they can profit and the buyer will always get boned in the end.
I say if you do buy a used phone, at least buy it on eBay. That way there is at least some accountability and the original owner would think twice before reporting the phone stolen/lost.

He is saying the future you should buy a used phone on eBay since you will get eBay and PayPal buyer protections.
If you are selling a phone with a bad IMEI you really should have a ton of documentation to support how you obtained the device. That means all the paperwork from the court about the prosecution you are involved in.
And this isn't a new policy by T Mobile. This is a long standing policy to black list phones with IMEI's that are reported stolen.
You also need to be careful when talking about how to sell and profit from a phone with a bad IMEI on XDA. It's a touchy subject here.

I purchased the S3 last year on eBay. The seller waited until after the 60 days were up (to be able to dispute on paypal) to report the phone stolen/lost. eBay was also of no help. So becareful!

That's why you use a credit card with a long dispute time.

But at least you have the record of the sale right? Couldn't you have gone to the T-Mobile store or called up CS and tell them you have proof that that you purchased the phone on eBay? Wouldn't T-Mobile help unblock it in your situation since you have proof with the seller information? You could have gone a few steps further and maybe get the police involved since you have nothing to worry about, you have proof of the transaction.
People like the ones you guys describe deserve to have both kneecaps broken.
Kind of makes me wonder about mine....I bought mine on CL. It was NIB. The dude bought it from Best Buy and brought it out to me. I took it home, popped my SIM in and Voila...Wonder if it would even be possible on mine since I don't think it was ever turned on on his.

Yeah I got **** on. There are terrible people out there.
For people buying phones on Craigslist either for T mobile or AT&T ask the seller to meet you at a store and advise a sales person to notate their account that they are selling the phone. If seller is legit they will gladly go to the store with you.
That's what I did when I sold my S3 and Nexus 4. The sales person notated my account in front of buyer so that I can not report it for insurance fraud...

Nothing about how to change imei's, regardless of you might use that ability for honest purposes, should ever be discussed on XDA at any time for any reason.
Any discussion about changing imei's is a big no-no on XDA. Its also illegal in most places in the world to mess with an imei, much like messing with the vin number on a car, no matter if you have a legitimate need to fix an old broken phone or not.
9 out of 10 people who will want to change an imei will want to do so for less than legal reasons. (Bought stolen phone. Stole phone. Want to sell a stolen phone, etc) XDA will not be a party to the distribution of that information as a result. So please do not discuss it here.
Thank you

Thanks for understanding, disclaiming, and not attacking. I do indeed do it at my own risk/discretion, however I know what I'm doing. Either way, sorry op, that's literally the best I can do, and still be a good xda user, seek and ye shall find.

they are not merging. Prolly never will either. Fcc shut that down awhile ago. It's metro PCs who just recently merged with T-Mobile.
But I do believe att and T-Mobile share a blacklist. Think this exact situation happened to a person on the s3 forums. Said they couldn't use it on att either.
But OP. Should be able to unlock and sell over seas. Try eBay. If no buyers then part it out. Screen and digitizer as one is a good 200 if not more.

Just change out the IMEI number so it is not blacklisted. It is not illegal in the United States, and if any moron tells you it is ask him for the link to the law. You will not find one. I got mine fixed on ebay from a company called kingpin unlockers. It cost me 60 dollars and they did it remotely in less than 30 minutes. Remotely, yes i did not have to send my phone in anywhere. Just go to ebay and copy and paste the following text in the search box:
Bad IMEI ESN repair service Samsung T-MOBILE Galaxy S4 S 4 IV M919 Blacklisted
They do both att and tmobile and also do note 2 and s3 imei changes remotely.

Just take a look at the imei cloning laws before you talk about things you have no idea about. The only people that can legally change the IMEI is the OEM.
