CM9 RC2 is out now..does anyone know is there's any major changes from RC1 besides general optimizing? I've seen a link to the gerrit changelog but that doesn't really tell me much as a non-developer...
There really isn't anything major. Work on CM9 is slowing down as the Jellybean source was released.

Which is sad, because I love CM9. I've tried switching to some Jellybean ROMs but they never have the options I'm used to in CM9.
Because JB was just released. Those options will come in time.

So lately I've been using CM6 Nightly builds
I've been getting the updates from here
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=espresso
The thing is I have no idea what's being updated or what the changes are sometimes! Sometimes I know like when the headphone jack didn't work properly and in the next update it did, so I was wondering if theres some sort of change log out there somewhere. Would anyone happen to know?
Your best bet is to follow @cmsrc on twitter. There's no changelog for the nightlies, but there is a changelog on on the Cyanogenmod github.

There are no nightly builds of CM yet. We only have a self-kang of CM7 by Slayher or CM7 Hybrid by RoyalKnight6190.

Okay, thank you. Can you offer an opinion on which you like better?
CM7 by Slayher is actually really good. I use it. However, since it is not really a full release it does have bugs. But over all, fantastic for an alpha.
CM7 Hybrid by RoyalKnight6190 is yet another great alpha build (however he has had more work on it). It is faster...but since Netflix does not work, I do not use it.
Also note...there is only one kernel for all the CM7 alphas.
But, for the most part. CM7 is being pushed back for CM9. Just have patience.

There are both of the ROMs that ZombieUsr described, and we can also flash Skyrocket ROMs. They have the exact same bugs as ours, but there might be additional tweaks.
There is also a CM7 kernel that Da_G made for the Skyrocket, but Auto-Rotation is broken when you flash it to the T989 (disable it and you SHOULD be fine).

Alrighty. Thank you.
Sounds like a few more things working in the nightlies than in latest fxp at the moment, anyone got a few pros and cons on the two projects to share?

nightly is are noticeably less laggy aswell
i like this post, i had the same question - also, what is the real difference between the two? i thought that FXP with releasing the roms on behalf of the CM team, but now we have both - i dont really get it.
i think i will try the nightly now, as they are easier to download.

I see it this way: both FXP and CM are the same, since all the FXP changes will land on CM soon or later then the cm builds are more reliable that waiting a week for the FXP build.
Of course there are times where are changes in the FXP builds that aren't merged yet in CM when a nightly is deployed (i think that it happened the last week with the wifi bugfix).
can i use the same kernel on the tow roms ?
Both usually have a kernel packaged in the zip, use the one provided

what's the deal with JellyBean for Tmobile SGS2? do developers need the official release in order to develop 4.1 based roms?

Yes, they need to have the source code in order to make it available for our phones. I just cant wait for a stable complete CM9 or AOKP build!

Official AOKP has been out for about a month now. Build #40 at AOKP.co if you wanna read up on it. The next Milestone will be out very soon with even more features built in. By far the best ROM for our phone... PERIOD!

I had lots of issues with Chimera vs Hercules RC1. I kinda like AOKP better than CM9 but its hard to say. I REALLY want the ability to disable full screen as i could with CM7. But hey its up to the devs i guess :/
Any possibility of a pure JB AOSP Rom? Are all the Rom makers waiting for the JB update from Samsung?
Check out the original development section for cm10 and aokp. Both are jelly bean based aosp ROMs. Unless I am mistaken.

The preview builds were released before the nightlies started. They ended on 8/14, and Nightlies started. Basically the preview builds didn't show up on the cyanogenmod site, and were just for people who didn't mind something a bit less stable. Now that nightlies are coming out, they are (generally) more stable and have more complete features. especially the 8/26 build. Hope this helps!
