CM9 nightly builds vs FXP - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sounds like a few more things working in the nightlies than in latest fxp at the moment, anyone got a few pros and cons on the two projects to share?
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium

nightly is are noticeably less laggy aswell

i like this post, i had the same question - also, what is the real difference between the two? i thought that FXP with releasing the roms on behalf of the CM team, but now we have both - i dont really get it.
i think i will try the nightly now, as they are easier to download.

I see it this way: both FXP and CM are the same, since all the FXP changes will land on CM soon or later then the cm builds are more reliable that waiting a week for the FXP build.
Of course there are times where are changes in the FXP builds that aren't merged yet in CM when a nightly is deployed (i think that it happened the last week with the wifi bugfix).

can i use the same kernel on the tow roms ?

Both usually have a kernel packaged in the zip, use the one provided

There are no nightly builds of CM yet. We only have a self-kang of CM7 by Slayher or CM7 Hybrid by RoyalKnight6190.

Okay, thank you. Can you offer an opinion on which you like better?
CM7 by Slayher is actually really good. I use it. However, since it is not really a full release it does have bugs. But over all, fantastic for an alpha.
CM7 Hybrid by RoyalKnight6190 is yet another great alpha build (however he has had more work on it). It is faster...but since Netflix does not work, I do not use it.
Also note...there is only one kernel for all the CM7 alphas.
But, for the most part. CM7 is being pushed back for CM9. Just have patience.

There are both of the ROMs that ZombieUsr described, and we can also flash Skyrocket ROMs. They have the exact same bugs as ours, but there might be additional tweaks.
There is also a CM7 kernel that Da_G made for the Skyrocket, but Auto-Rotation is broken when you flash it to the T989 (disable it and you SHOULD be fine).

Which of the CM9 ports is more stable?

Hi, just wondering which of the ports of the CM9 ROMs is better since Im seeing a couple of them from different teams/devs. I mean, is there a difference from one to the other? Is there an edge to any of them? Thanx in advance for your time and effort.

I'm running the latest nightly as of July 7 and have no issues. I mean it feels a tad laggy but it's still under development so it's to be understood. I'm still loving it though!

Um, thats AOKP.. not CM9
AFAIK, Team Chopsticks are the only ones actually submitting patches to CM (they are the official maintainers for our devices). All of the other posts are either nightlies being built by someone else, or someone else adding little tweaks/themes. IMHO, you will be best off running the Alpha builds that Team Chopsticks posts or using the official nightlies from get.cm. It's unlikely, but be aware that nightlies might occasionally break.

Which of them is best is matter of preference. Each person will appreciate something different about any ROM, so the best advice is try all of them and pick which is best for you. At present they are all based on Arco's CM9, and I prefer that.

Oh, okay.. I prefer to choose a ROM that's not much of bugs, could you suggest me which ROM?
Because when I read each of ICS ROM thread comment's it's confusing me to choose which is almost stable ROM because of the bugs
By the way thanks for answering
wrong section dude! you should ask in general section. not in development. btw, all others ICS rom will be updated according to arco cm9
I would pick CM9, its since the others just use CM9 as a base while the others are great I find using the pure CM9 much better.
No bugs? Go back to gingerbread. No ICS can give you that yet. Please do know that ICS development for Galaxy Wonder is still on alpha stage. And also post appropriately. This is development section.
Sorry I'm new on creating thread
And I don't mean with no bug, I said with not plenty of bugs
Okay thanks for the answers guys, just asking, sorry for posting in a wrong section

yeah. pure CM9 is better. I have once tried Paranoid, it was pretty good too. it is more customizable than pure CM9 (I think you knew it). Im currently using CM9 build 6 which is pretty stable. the other ROM are based on CM9 build 5 anyway. so, you know the rule, build 6 is better than build 5 (literally), but in some case, it upside down. just flash any ROM. you will find your own answer.

what do you guys meanwE with "pure" CM9? Do you mean the CM9 as being developed by arco, or is there another source for CM9 on W?

[Q] Comparing Inc CM7 builds.

i've been trying numerous CM builds in my dinc including PONS builds, condemned, and the newest nightlys. i still havent been able to really solidify that one is better than the other. anyone wanna share some experience on which might be better? specifically ive been deciding between the newest nightlys and condemned's stable build. which do you guys think is better?
I've always like Pons' kangs for the open commits. Maybe if you ask really nicely, he'll update his build. However there may not be any changes worth rebuilding for.

another big question is, do you guys all use adrenaline mod? if so, with what rom? i found that adrenaline didnt have much of an effect on condemned, whereas on the new nightlys (like the one posted today), it seems to make a big difference. is this because of the tweaks done to condemned? are they better tweaks? sorry if i sound like some college girl who knows nothing but this has been rocking my mind a bit
Which ROM is best/most stable is subjective depending on who you talk to, ask 10 different people, get 10 different answers. These types of threads aren't encouraged and hence closed but you can read and join in with the discussion in the General forum here as this was left to stop further threads being opened.

AFAIK there is no CM8... And for CM7, I don't believe ARCO ever built CM7 for galaxy w. There is a CM7 port in development section if I remember correctly. It is not from ARCO and it had some bugs....
May I ask why you don't like the last three versions. CM9 is pretty much bug free and quite stable. Even CM10 is pretty stable and currently using it. It is stable enough for me for daily use.

Because they drain too much battery and after some period they start to give some problem. At the beginning they are awesome but after they're not pretty good. I always do pristine to make things go better, but I just want a stable rom that is only faster then the original one on my galaxy w. And the cm's rom are not satisfying me.

If you don't like sir arco's work, you can just use stock rom, which is samsung's work. Just don't put a bad comment, not stable enough or what so ever. I don't know why you still feel that cm9 also not stable enough. I think all the cm9, cm10 and cm10.1 are all very stable and very good for daily use. But if you don't satisfy enough, and i don't know what will make you satisfy, just make your own rom.

OK first of all cool down a little bit. Everybody has different needs and what maybe stable for you might not be stable for somebody else. For me I had reboot issues for a very long time with CM9 but so many did not. But with the latest releases, bugs that bothered me disappeared.
And don't blame people for searching alternatives to satisfy their needs. And not everybody has development skills to built roms.
Sometimes I don't get you people. CM is not a religion and arco is not a prophet. I don't get why you people are so serious.
I am grateful that ARCO developed CM for us and I can't thank him enough. But gee it is just a phone and a ROM.
My suggestion to you is to CHILL...
I don't think ARCO needs your protection and his work speaks for itself.

No, Arco is no prophet, just human like you and me. There you are right. He is a very smart guy who deserves a lot of thanks for porting CM9 to this device.
You just must understand many people are really really very thankful to him and sometimes overstating by threating him like a god.
I for myself also do not understand why CM9 isn´t working stable for you. It´s a really stable rom. Way more stable than Samsungs stock ROMs. With these I had always random reboots. That´s not the case since using Arcos CM9. Maybe it´s some apps you are using or your SDCard causing this.
Ok, but to be honest regarding stability in the final release I can´t tell. I was using RC2 with it´s older kernel till now because of the battery drain. it was running absolutely stable for me without any issues plus it gave me a awesome battery life, so I compiled my own kernel where i reduced it further. So if you are not satisfied with the final, you can try RC2 or RC3 together with my kernel. It gives way better battery life than Samsungs stock ROM will ever offer you.
However I updated last night to the final release and the battery drain appears to be the same like using Arcos CM9 RC2 with its stock kernel. So if the results will satisfy me, I will stay with the final and build a new personal kernel for it.

Most of the latest ROMs are based on ARCO's CM versions and I believe they will perform on the same level. However some of them may have some extra customizations to improve battery and performance etc. You may want to check their threads and see their features. Also there are some custom ROMs based on stock Samsung Roms. (Gingerbread) Like FAW, rebel etc. They may have custom kernels to speed up the phone.
When was the last time you tried CM9? Because as @honeyx noted, the latest version does seem to have good battery performance and stability.

As I already told you, try the final and if that doesn´t satisfy you regarding battery life, try the older RC2 or RC3. If one of these gives you better results, you can also try my kernel for them.

I think so, but I will focus on reducing the consumption further than adding a lot of governors. But this will require a lot of testing before launching it. Currently I´m testing the newer 3.0.81 kernel to which Arco updated his sources after launching the final release. This new kernel just has some changes in memory management like the latest kernel for CM10.1 where some people reported to get hangs. So I just added the lulzactive governor, incrased ram and reduced the voltages to first check it´s stability, but so far I didn´t get any hangs and freezes in games.
I´m really anal about stability and consumption and only will release a kernel that is working rock solid for me.
