Sprint GS 3 question about SIM card - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I know Sprint doesn't bill their GS3 as an international phone, and Verizon will supposedly issue a software update that will make theirs capable of roaming internationally. But I'm on Sprint, and am considering buying one. Does the Sprint GS3 have a SIM card slot, embedded or not, and if its "embedded," does that mean there's just plastic over it which I could have modded, or its welded and attached by the metal to the insides of the phone? Is there any other significant hardware difference between the two? I currently have a Photon I might just save as an overseas phone if I can't sell it.
sorry, I posted this on the wrong GS3 forum earlier

Not as far as I know. It might have a slot for lte card like Verizon.

then whats the difference between the hardware, not the radio firmware, in the ATT GS3 vs. the SP/VZ GS3? If they're all the same, doesn't that mean you could theoretically flash the firmware to run different GS3s on different networks?
But if it does have a slot for the lte card, can you swap, or modify the plastic around it and swap sim cards, maybe for intl use?

I don't really know actually probably the modem and kernels used. I wouldn't recommend using the ROMs for the other versions unless they state they are universal. About the sim modifications o have never tried it when I had a epic 4g touch I just flashed E4GT stuff. But with the galaxy nexus the gsm roms worked with the cdma nexus for the most part. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

what do you mean? you mean you turned your phone into a GSM phone with them? Could I do that with a GS3?

[Q] Epic 4g Touch has GSM?

Sorry if i`m posting in the wrong place. but here is my doubt?
Why some websites and on ebay sellers say that Epic Touch has gsm technology and a lot of reviews say the it doesn`t have it.
Most of the ebay sellers write in thir adds GSM 850,900,1900..
and UMTS 900,1900,2100.
It`s not just one seller saying it!!! A lot of sellers says the it`s a GSM phone. In truth, I just found only one add on ebay saying it just a CDMA phone.
I`m getting crazy about all the different informations on the internet.
Are there TWO VERSIONS of Epic? one CDMA/GSM e another one just CDMA?
Thanks for the patience. I`m in love with this phone but I only can buy it were a GSM phone.
CDMA only. Perhaps some of the sellers are thinking the SD card slot is actually a SIM card slot?

Theirs isn't called the epic 4g touch. ATT is the skyrocket and and T-Mobile is called the Hercules. Sprint is the only carrier calling it the epic 4g touch, therefore it is CDMA only (unless ebay is selling the other carrier's versions and using the wrong name).
If you can only buy a GSM, get the galaxy note

Correct but ATT has 2 galaxy's. The Galaxy S II and Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Edit: oh and I'm guessing they have 2 because if you get the skyrocket and have unlimited data, att makes u change your plan to $45 a month for your data

[Q] LTE for Sprint

I pre-ordered the phone, should arrive sometime today. My question is about LTE. I live in ATL and is suppose to be one of the first cities to have LTE. If it does indeed work, if I flash to a custom rom when they are available, will we lose LTE? I'm coming from a photon and before that an EVO. On the EVO, I remember CM was just getting 4G to work. On the photon, I lost 4G when flashing a custom. Hope this makes sense to people lol
Thanks

No you won't lose it.
Maybe not
I'm really not sure how LTE is implimented. It could come with a sim card of some kind, not really sure. Maybe someone who knows can chime in.

The reason 4G is a problem on other phones is because those phones use proprietary drivers that the OEMs don't release. Being a Nexus all the source and drivers are available in AOSP so nothing has to be hacked or leaked to make 4G work. One of the many reasons to own a Nexus

Where are you getting this info? There's no SIM card in Sprint's Gnex. None of my last 5 Sprint phones have had SIM cards either.

Lol, you never owned an LTE device on Sprint yet have you?
Ok so if I were to get this phone on sprint...(someone stop me if Im derailing this thread) with it requiring a sim card for use on LTE, theoretically would I be able to use it in different countries, using the prepaid route?
There is no sim card.

[Q] Can you use this on AT&T network and vice versa when unlocked?

Hi,
I basically want to know if there is any difference between these devices, other than network provider lock.
Can you use the ROMs interchangeably?
I think the tmo model does support att's bands and u can probably interchange roms as well like on the tmo s2 and the skyrocket

We don't know for sure yet that the ROMs will be interchangeable. However, given that most T-Mobile phones support the 850/1900 NAM bands (GSM) needed for AT&T HSPA+, as long as the phone is unlocked it should work fine.

The Galaxy S2 did. Reading the specs page on the Tmobile website, I've come to the conclusion that the bands are identical to the AT&T variant's. I'm going to be doing the same thing.
Will hspa+ work? If so, tmo users who will be paying full price would be better off
Buying from att because its less than tmos full price cost.
Plus wireless tethering would work Because tmo doesn't have imei # of att phone.
Can anyone confim?
i would like to know this as well, paying 549 if a lot better than 639.

FYI only T-MO has HSPA +42 version of the S3 for those looking to buy from At&t.
anyone can confirm this?? does the gs3 from tmo works on att HSPA+ and vice versa and if the tmo gs3 works internationally on 3g networks.
All right, unlocked my T999 galaxy s3, put my AT&T micro sim in phone but I get no data. I can make phone calls no problem.Do I have to do anything with the APN settings?
Thank you!!
You need to make an AT&T APN. Also the AT&T version will not get 3G on T-Mobile without at the very least a modem flash.

O.K. just added a couple ATT apn settings still no data.any other suggestions?
By the way i have a 4g micro sim.Thought Tmobile S3 had ATT hspa+ bands.
Got apn settings from these forums.
Might want to do a lot of research before trying to flash an att ROM on tmo or vice versa. I heard the tmo phones are quad core.

did you flash an AT&T radio? you will probably need to do that.
how did you unlock your phone? did you just buy a code or did you try one of the XDA methods?

The frequencies are different. And Verizon/Sprint won't activate phones of each other's networks anyway even if they were compatible.
So there is no way to change said frequencies? And thank you.

I honestly haven't really looked into it, but as far as I know, the LTE/4G radio is different, but the CDMA radio should be the same. So, if you can find someone at Verizon that would be willing to activate a non-Verizon phone (extremely unlikely I would say), then you should be able to get regular, non-LTE Verizon service on a Sprint device, assuming the firmware was flashed properly. The guys in this thread have made some progress on CDMA devices.
you could, but you wouldn't have 4g. The same way you'd flash a verizon nexus to cricket, you'd flash it to sprint. There are already small mods out there to get a sprint g'nex to operate on verizons bands, so to me, that proves the hardware works. The only thing wierd about the sprint version is its embedded sim. Its worth a shot, but good luck getting anyone to do the leg work for you.
Interesting. I might have a few connections at Verizon Wireless retail stores. A friend of mine, his mother works at one. So I might be able to get her to activate it.
Its not as simple as just activating it. At Verizon, our 4g phones are activated by the sim, not the imei. If the sim is not in Verizon's system, it will give a sim validation error.
Even with 3g phones like the iPhone, if the imei is not in Verizon's system, it will give a device validation error.

Just... buy a Verizon model? Why would you take a Sprint model and gimp yourself to Verizon 3G, dealing with the hassle, when you can very simply and cheaply buy a Verizon one with LTE and absolutely no hassle.

GSM on Verizon Galaxy Nexus???

trying to get a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to work with a T-Mobile sim card
is it possible? what are the steps?
thanks in advance
No
Sent From My Toro+ via RED Tapatalk
The steps are:
1. Put T-Mobile GSM SIM card into your CDMA/LTE only phone
2. Cry and wet your pants because it didn't work.
just to be clear, tmobile uses gsm technology and verizon uses cdma. those two are different so they are not interchangeable.
Step 1: sell your Verizon Galaxy Nexus
Step 2: buy a GSM Galaxy Nexus.
