Is the sprint version compatible with the Verizon network? With some unlocking or something?
Thanks.

Nope.
Um.... can you elaborate on why? From what I saw they are very very similar just the carrier firmware/ is different

The frequencies are different. And Verizon/Sprint won't activate phones of each other's networks anyway even if they were compatible.
So there is no way to change said frequencies? And thank you.

I honestly haven't really looked into it, but as far as I know, the LTE/4G radio is different, but the CDMA radio should be the same. So, if you can find someone at Verizon that would be willing to activate a non-Verizon phone (extremely unlikely I would say), then you should be able to get regular, non-LTE Verizon service on a Sprint device, assuming the firmware was flashed properly. The guys in this thread have made some progress on CDMA devices.
you could, but you wouldn't have 4g. The same way you'd flash a verizon nexus to cricket, you'd flash it to sprint. There are already small mods out there to get a sprint g'nex to operate on verizons bands, so to me, that proves the hardware works. The only thing wierd about the sprint version is its embedded sim. Its worth a shot, but good luck getting anyone to do the leg work for you.
Interesting. I might have a few connections at Verizon Wireless retail stores. A friend of mine, his mother works at one. So I might be able to get her to activate it.
Its not as simple as just activating it. At Verizon, our 4g phones are activated by the sim, not the imei. If the sim is not in Verizon's system, it will give a sim validation error.
Even with 3g phones like the iPhone, if the imei is not in Verizon's system, it will give a device validation error.

Just... buy a Verizon model? Why would you take a Sprint model and gimp yourself to Verizon 3G, dealing with the hassle, when you can very simply and cheaply buy a Verizon one with LTE and absolutely no hassle.

So I have the CDMA Verizon version of the GNEX and I was wondering if I can unlock it to work with T-Mobile, I know I'll probably have to cut my sim but what else do I need to do to accomplish this? Can anyone point me to a guide or something ? Thanks guys

Not gonna happen - Verizon is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM. Different radio bands, different cell technology, etc.

What they said. You can however sell your Verizon Nexus and buy an unlocked GSM one. That's the route I went.
How many times must this be answered
It won't work. Just sell yours and pony up a few extra $$ for the difference to buy a GSM model.
Just curious, but were your CDMA GNex's having problems? I've tried about 4 of them (via VZW customer replacement policy) and keep having one way audio dropouts. This combined with Google's decision to remove CDMA devices from AOSP support has me thinking of selling mine and getting the GSM version.
If I may, how much were you guys able to recoup by selling them? Is there a market for these CDMA versions?

On the XDA marketplace the CDMA Nexus is going for $400-$450. You could probably expect about the same on Craigslist. I have the GSM and got it for $565. As far as your bad handsets, it sounds like you have just been unlucky. I wouldn't sell just because of Google dropping AOSP support. I don't think it will affect the Galaxy Nexus very much if at all, and it is still going to be the most dev'd phone on Verizon. I do think it will affect future Nexus devices making their way to Verizon though.

Bottomline - You cannot use GSM phone on a CDMA network unless it is a global phone and supports both GSM and CDMA as well as the frequencies of the carrier you intend to use.
That is an obvious spam post. Please people, there are no exceptions... you CANNOT take a Sprint or Verizon phone and unlock it to be used on ANY service that is GSM or uses a SIM card. Period. The unlock sites will just take your money. World band phones will already be unlocked for use on European GSM networks most of the time so no unlock code is needed overseas.

You can flash it to another carrier though.
Not if the carrier is GSM or uses a SIM card. There is no possibility. Whatsoever. And unless you know a network level technician on verizon, you are limited to the smaller regional carriers and prepaid services to flash a Sprint phone. And vice versa for a Verizon phone. They will not connect a phone that does not already have its ESN already in its system.

Its common knowledge about gsm and cdma,if you dont know what these are then you have no business flashing carriers.
Sprint phones can be flashed to almost all prepaid carriers, overseas cdma is less common however there are ways out there to even flash cdma phone to their carriers. My father in Ukraine had his Epic 4g flashed to a carrier that uses sim cards,so there are ways even overseas.I think some overseas carriers use both cdma and gsm.
Guess not.
Don't think you can even outside of maybe Page Plus.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You can't because CDMA requires the device to be signed to run on the network. GSM doesn't. You can't run a CDMA Verizon device on Sprint or vice versa for this reason.
Thats not really true, but porting a CDMA Gnex is dumb because you lose LTE.
you can use it on Sprint, but Sprint sucks....

Until recently I have been with Sprint. And I am located in South Florida.
I am considering going with Simple Mobile as I'm told that T-Mobile has one of the best data speeds in this area. And I want to get a Galaxy S3 as the phone to use with this service.
Can anyone here advise as to whether this would work with Simple Mobile (I called them but they won't say anything only that they don't don't support it - meaning they don't sell it so don't bother them), at what speeds?
I also assume that I must get the T-Mobile version of this phone. That seems quite difficult unless I want to pay a big premium to T-Mobile, who charges much more than say AT&T for their version. So if anyone has any suggestions where I can get one (I would prefer a store, not eBay)?
Thanks
try the xda marketplace
edit: nvm just saw you dont have enough posts.
I read that the Sprint variant of the S3 would work on T-Mobile. You just have to unlock the phone I believe.

I remember negri sells the phone for $599 unlocked. That's the cheapest I've seen for the TMobile version. It's not cheaper by much but it's unlocked and you may save on taxes.

Simple Mobile is a Mvno of t-mobile so you don't need to have an unlocked T999. Just change the apn. A's far as speeds. I live in Central Florida and I get the same speeds as t-mobile. I recommended. As far as where to buy the phone. I went to t-mobile and paid $599 for it. Haven't really seen it cheaper.

It does have a sim slot but it's not user accessible.
It's hidden behind the plastic under the battery.
Sprint has taken this approach with all there LTE devices.
The only exception may be the Photon Q since it's touted as being a global device.

Hi, i'm buying a Samsung galaxy s3, and i worry about bad ESN phone that i can't use on my tmobile account.
For that reason, i think i will pay for a s3 ATT ( if ATT s3 is a bad ESN phone than i still can unlock and use it with my tmobile account, right? )
But i hear someone said that if i use a unlock ATT phone then tmobile data plan won't work on that att phone. I don't know if this is correct information or not.
Can someone help me out?
Thank you very much.
Also Is there anyone to avoid bad esn phone on craiglists?
Furthermore, is there anyone to buy a bad ESN Tmobile phone, and somehow i can use it with tmobile ?
Once its been blacklisted it will not work with that specific carrier. If you want to buy one off craigslist...have the seller meet you at a at&t store or T-Mobile and have the rep check if the imei for you. If the seller is unwilling to do that...don't trust it.

honestly, even if the tmobile check, the imei will still be good during the transaction. it isn't until the seller contacts asurion which will most likely be a couple days later to report it lost or stolen. Im not sure how this can be prevented. Some people suggest to call t-mobile have the imei registered to your account right away, or even to leave a note on your account for it. But most likely asurion is the one who are blacklisting the phones not t-mobile.
This isn't CDMA. ESN phones are no good the moment they are determined that they are stolen or tied to account with a over due balance. On the other hand. GSM phones usually don't get blacklisted. And even if it is blacklisted it is only blacklisted to its specific carrier. So you shouldn't have a problem bringing the phone to T-Mobile.
