Fake xda site? - About xda-developers.com

So I'm working on a ROM compatibility chart and I was searching for miui for one of the galaxy tab models and I found this xdadevelopers dot info website that looks exactly like a clone of the real site here. It only has a few forums.
Looks like whoever's behind the site is stealing xda's content.
EDIT: forum system keeps auto correcting the URL so the other site is missing the dash and ends with dot info.

Yeah, possibly. I'd say either PM a moderator or report this thread so it will bring it to a mods attention, but when reporting it, mention that the site should be checked out.

Wow a fake site...what's next?

Very odd. At first I thought it was related to a comment bitpushr made earlier today about them testing some new infrastructure, but I checked whois and xda-developers.com does not appear to be owned by the same people or using the same name servers. Definitely a thief, but I think trying to steal passwords from people logging in there with their accounts from here.
Do Not Under Any Circumstances Enter Your XDA Account Info There

I will get hate for this but...
Why not take legal action or contact the host and notify them of the intellectual property violation? This site has a right to protect its own content and no site should have fake duplicates.

No hate, I think that would take a lot of time and might not even be possible depending on what other country the site is based in. Some ISPs are more responsive than others. Some don't respond at all since you are not paying their bills.
A better way is to challenge their ownership of the name under the WIPO rules. The only drawback is that you must have someone represent you in Geneva, but 99%+ of WIPO challenge cases are won because the "fake" owner never shows up. Of course, the jerks will register another domain name since it is cheap to do.

Unfortunately, there's no true way where things like this can be stopped. People just see that a site or company is doing well, and tries to jeopardize it. That warped mindset has always been around.

Thanks for bringing this up. These guy(s) have been at it for a number of years. Unfortunately it is a cat-and-mouse game. We block them and then they change.
Needless to say, DO NOT enter your login information into this site.
If you do not mind me asking, how did you happen across these rogue sites? We have them blocked when people link to them within our own forum, but if they are arriving through Google or other methods then I'd like to address that as well. Feel free to send me a PM about it.

I'm sure that some Mods or Admin staff will have access to Google Webmaster Tools for the main site, Just report it repeatedly through that or Tweet at Matt Cutts relentlessly until he looks into it XD.

There are actually several fake XDA sites that we are trying to deal with. We're on it!

Galaxy Nexus Accessories sub-forum has more topics than the Development sub-forum.
Seems legit.

Yup! We've been working on this one for a while.

I thought links to external sites for software\roms was against the rules, e.g. keep everything in one place. (However I can be completely wrong)
Im getting my touch on Monday and am super excited to see root, but having come from an Epic 4G (horrible community) plagued with people selling roms, closed threads and trolling..
I just dont want to see that happen here with this phone.
Perhaps the name *epic* is jinxed.
If I could request one thing, that would be to post a direct link here in the OP.

It is against the rules to link to a site where you are required to register to download. You don't for the ACS site, so it doesn't break any rules.

Applications on rooted devices

Can an application I have purchased and downloaded for my SGII work in other phone or device? or do I have to buy it again to install it on the other device?
Thanks all; Just wondering and learning
If the app was purchased on Android Market you should have no problem redownloading it onto any future phone you buy and enter the same google account at initial setup that you used to purchase the app.

Yes all of the apps I have which have the paid versions are from Android Market; it happens i got also Mytouch 4G and thinking in getting a galaxy tablet besides my SGII phone and wondered if i rooted these devices if i would have to paid for the same apps to run on all three different devices or just downloaded individually to each and fire them away as i use one or other device.

You might want to check the thread that says "READ": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299957
Not to be a jerk-face... but stop making excuses. If you break a law , do you avoid any sort of punishment just because you are new?
Ignorance isn't a good excuse. Just apologize and do the right thing and start a thread in the appropriate place.
It's ridiculous the amount of people just tossing things out without taking a moment to stop and see what the deal is. Being new doesn't give you the right to just do what you want. If you are new, you should be even more careful... no? That's how people brick their phone--they don't take the time to read things carefully and that's what gets them in trouble.

Rethinking Spam policies

Hi,
I am a software developer, installed a rom in my cellphone from this forum and have some bugs to report.
I cant! Why? I'm a new user, need 10 threads... Ok let's post some threads,
I cant! Why? 5 minute beetween eath thread.... Ok, since I love this forum's community and respect your work, let's buy the pro-xda-forum app from the store. Maybe being a premium xda-forum member I can post.
I cant either!
OK, guys. It seem you are preventing both SPAM and potential users in the forum with your rules...
Just a constructive critic.
PD: don't need a reply saying the importance of prevent spam, and so... There are better ways to manage this issue.
Its to stop idiots posting useless crap in the dev topics.
Pointless *****ing from someone who thinks he is better than everybody else. Reported.
We all had to deal with this, and those of us who put the time and effort in are thankful for these restrictions as there would be even more idiots and wasters without them.
Suck it up, take the fall do the time. That made you what you are. That makes you what you are. How long have we been around this thing of ours?

Just look around! You'll find plenty of noobs asking the same question, all you gotta do is make the day for 10 chaps...
And as a software developer, you should very well know the potential and threat of spam...
Also, the 10 post rule has a deeper meaning attached...it is there so that users inculcate a habit of assisting in the flow of knowledge...
They should realize that the journey is more important than the result...

Think I did a useful proposal here. I read in the explanation for this noob-spam issues that if we know of a better alternative to filter users just propose it.
If you read me between lines you have a proper alternative by just letting the ones, like me, who contribute in the xda-premium app to change their user status to something less restrictive.
Don't you think it's a good idea to both enhance the app-buys and give users like me an alternative?
Don't want to mess with the forum, just report a bug since yesterday jejejeje

No, I think it is a really bad idea. A total of $1 to get some sort of 'Special' status? Because the people who want to come on here purely to spam and try to get commercial crap posted won't want to pay $1 to get a quicker and easier route to doing that will they
While your proposed idea does look good on paper, the issue of piracy pops in...
Android is the worst os when it comes to development, from an anti-piracy point of view...
Granted that piracy is rampant on other os's too, but it is much much much more than any other os of its calibre...
I can bet my whole work on xda that more than 80% of all android users have pirated an app or game or theme or whatever...
So, as I said, granting dev area access to all junior members is not such a good idea, as it would actually increase app piracy, rather than push up sales...
2 more to go...

This is the ROM-post (FOXHOUND for GalaxyS3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708371
This is the issue:
Hi, I’m having issues with the phone-number recognition algorithm. Is there any tweak with it here o just a JellyBean error?
Here in Buenos Aires, Argentina we have this numbers: +54 11 0000-0000, if the number is a cellular phone, we add a nine like: +54 9 11 2222-2222. I have all the mobiles in my contactlist like that. But because the ’9′ is not used for internal calls, The network providers don’t forward the nine and I see +54 11 2222-2222.
So When an incoming call / sms says the number is +54 11 2222-222, The phone doesn’t show the proper contact because it’s missing the ’9′ in front of it.
In stock rom from my galaxy S3, my old iphone, and some other roms I tested I didn’t have this issue. Any ideas?
thanks!!!

Contrary to what I had believed, your post doesn't have a close precedent (from what I could conclude through a quick google)
While I do not know the solution or what causes such issues on your device, I can suggest a workaround...
You obviously use call log pretty much...
In my phone, there does appear an option to edit numbers before calling...what this does is simply copy-pasting the number to the dialler where you can freely edit it...
There, its a simple matter of adding a 9 in between...
P.s. I don't run jb, so the exact option may vary

Thank you for your time looking for a fix and the workarround.
I found another one, just putting both phones in the contact works for me. Now I have my regular contacts with both with and without the '9'.
Why do you need the contact with '9' ? Because if I am abroad and have to talk to a mobile phone in my country, the 9 is a must to establish the call.
Why do you need the contact without the '9' ? Just because the phone can't recognize the contact if not.
Really appreciete the devotion in solving others issues. Keep up the good work making this forum the great place it is.
If it was an open source rom, I'm sure you could patch the framework to ignore the lack of 9 for caller id
I'm a bit noob on Android, had I Phone since it's release. But I'll be checking if I can review this in the source.

Is this just a "something might be coming eventually" type post? Similar to how Samsung announces and even demos products, but never actually makes them available for purchase?
By the way, posting the same thing multipe times (as you've posted the above in at least 3 threads now) is against the rules. So is advertising a product....

Tell you what: If you stop breaking the XDA rules (posting this all over the place AND advertising in the wrong places) I'd consider ordering a couple of these.
Moderator: Can the XDA marketplace be used in this case?
Edit: Actually, after reviewing your posting history, perhaps it'd be better to NOT order something from you. Considering that you seem to think that a palm touchstone charger works with the verizion door (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30542742&postcount=40), I'd be concerned that something you're selling wouldn't work at all.

Nowhere do I state it's working with Touchstone!! It cannot!
After all, Touchstone is not QI compatible and all that is stated: "...not dependent on homemade Palm Pixi/ Touchstone work-around..."

So the only way to buy this is from you directly? No website, ebay store, etc?
Did you make these yourself?

You couldn't post up a link on this thread so everybody can buy one? Mind sharing please?? And, Jersey Shore???? Expected that comment but, for your information not everybody in Jersey is a guido. Its like me calling you a cowboy just because your from Texas.
axel06,
As of right now you seem shady...
things like "PM me for further info" and "PM me as price already shown and in stock in USA". Then you have one questionable picture and the generic sgs3 picture with the charging msg on it. no real pictures?
but yet the only person we can buy this from is you? so you want our money.. so give us more information. DId you in fact make this thing? how does it work? show more pictures, etc etc.
and if you didn't make it, then post a URL with information.
axel06 said:
There are no instructions, because it is a self contained unit that simply is laid on back of battery and snaps into the 2 connector points existant on Galaxy S3.
If you want a unit, PM me as price already shown and in stock in USA

XDA is not for personal selling. Don't make it ebay. I have seen you in a couple of threads posting this nonsense. What's the reason for giving us a review for a product that only you are selling.
Let's say we are happy with your product, but do you really think that anyone would send you money to buy it personally.
People like you-
Wow XDA FORUM, let's advertise our product and rip off some idiots. BUT WHO IS THE REAL IDIOT?
I leave the question unanswered and let's see who answers.
Correct answer gets a wireless receiver.

I sent a PM to him a while ago to find out more info and have not heard anything from him. So I am leaning towards this whole thing being a waste of time.

I just bypass FRP 7.1.2 with lock Bootloader! Please read!

Well Hello there everyone.
My friend bought a Pixel off the streets (A.K.A Offerup App) He saw the post and called me about the post he saw and wanted to by it. I mention him about FRP, which he said he will check . He didnt relized that it just bypass with sideloader. We try to contact the sell but nothing. So head he gave it to play around with it and took me a 1 day 1/2 and BANG! I removed it with lock bootloader! 7.1.2 (NJH47D, Jul 2017)!:silly::laugh:
Now i have the info& IDK what to do with it. If you have any questions ask. Very open to help out but I don't want to get ban or anything in the area.
P.S I have proof of it been lock and so on. ( I did not took a pic of the bootloader info but it was in 'slot_b' idk whats this but yeah) I believe this will work with verizon and OEM goolge pixel&XL
Edit: My brother has a Nexus 6P with 7.1.2 lock bootloader. I explain him that it can be done and he did not believe me. We bet some beers to show it can be done! Same concept different phone. I was multi-tasking and phone too longer than usual to get things in the right place. Check laptop date & Time.
Update: Check out Rootjunky and Phonelab Youtube& Twitter. The information was shared with them.
how did you do it?
Not sure if I am allow to post the information.
Why would you get banned? A lot of people are waiting for something like this; myself included. If you say you're able to do it, explain it clearly and with as much information as possible.

I believe that XDA rules don't permit that but since the thread hasn't been locked then perhaps I'm wrong. If it's free then post it. Thread will be cleaned if it violates rules.
But if he charges for it then he might as well just ban himself. No need to wait.

So you're telling me I can't get any donations for the solution?:crying::crying: I mean for my time? Beer? Steak?
I'm pretty sure XDA considers instructions to bypass FRP to be aiding phone thieves and people who buy stolen phones, which would not be in the best interests of the majority of the people in the XDA community. There are plenty of Internet pages and at least one apk that claim to help people bypass FRP. The fact that you don't see that stuff on XDA should probably tell you something.

No that is against forum rules. You may have a donate button in your avatar and a button link in your signature. People can donate to you if they want, but it is against forum rules to ask for donations up front for providing a service.

only thing you can do is (if you want money), start a blog and sell the service.. That's outside of XDA..

This doesn't make sense combined with your OP. You said you were messing around with a friend's phone and bam you got it and now don't know what to do with the info. A mod said put a donate link up but now you say it's not for free since you paid to learn the method? Were you messing around or did someone teach it to you? Either way you're not going to get paid for it here unless you put up a donate link and the method is verified by other users.

The pictures show absolutely nothing useful. This guy is completely full of it. Mods close this thread. It's nothing but clickbait.
Also, the pictures in op are actually for a Nexus 6P not Pixel XL. Mods should at least edit and move this thread to the appropriate place if closing the thread is not feasible.
