Just out of curiousity of course. But where do you see the oh so painful marks of daily use on your phone? I've only dropped my phone one time, in a case, and it survived without a mark actually. But I do have a slight chip in the rubberized matte coating on the edge of the phone, simply from taking off and on the case. And also on my battery door, the metal finish on the actual metal door is chipping slighty too. also on the keyboard part, where it is solid black on the ends of the kb, small scratches are showing up. :/. Sort of off topic, but how could I just completely wipe clean my battery door and "unfinish" it?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I too have the tiny chips/scuffs from where the clips on my hybrid solid case fitted, I also thought it was from removing it too much but infact it was just wear from when I shut my keyboard and the clips scrapped the edge slightly,.... hence, my phone is now naked.
.... also have two tiny scuffs on the battery door cover where the plastic is peeling,... have you seen the "polished G 2 door ",... I might do that myself.
That's it,.... need to get around to trying one of the gel two piece cases ASAP to prevent further damage.

I got a dent on my battery door that happened when I was frantically grasping at my phone trying to turn off the alarm in the morning...
it fell onto a chair leg or something like that lol
I got a gnarly scratch on the right side about an inch above the camera button. I don't know where it came from either =( there's also a small scratch on the left top that really only made the metal shiny. Do I even have to mention the battery door? I have a new one lined up for when I sell my DZ...the Atrix will be my next phone =)

2 really minuscule pieces of dust under the screen. Doesn't bother me at all, can't even notice them unless your looking for them.
The body of the phone is in pristine condition, thanks to the Otterbox case. Screen is scratch free even without a screen protector.
Its funny how much I baby this phone. It only goes in my jacket pockets. If I put it in a coat pocket that has a zipper I wrap it in a microfiber cloth for LCD TV's so the screen doesnt get scratched placing it in or removing it from the pocket. All the other coat pockets are "safe," where I dont need to use the microfiber cloth.
Ive had my phone since the beginning of October and not one scratch , blemish ,
discoloration , etc . I baby my phones as much as possible though , Probably a

Battery door, metal surrounding the screen, some bumps here and there, discoloration around the keyboard, some gray rubber parts are already black (seems there's black plastic underneath). But that's not the worse part: screen is cracked like Pangaea is now the modern Earth. Yeah, I've misused (and abused of) the phone. Still the best phone I've ever had.

Two big dings on each top corner. A few small ones on the right beside the screen. My battery cover has some slight scratches. It's a dusty machine tho, I really aught to get some compressed air on it. Oh yeah, and my gf threw it on a hair dressers floor... screen down... no screen protector, only a tiny half millimeter scratch on the screen.

I'm still waiting for my Xoom to arrive. Hopefully in a couple of days I'll have it. In the meantime, I'm preparing myself for my new "toy". I already ordered a case, but, could anybody recommend me a screen cleaner? As far as I know, the Xoom screen is a fingerprint magnet, so I'll probably need one.
All the best,
John.
MicroFiber Cloth+Breath=CleanScreen4Me!!
Yep. Micro fiber cloths work great, and usually I don't even have to fog up the screen with breath. Just wipe off the fingerprints. (and, boy, does the XOOM get the fingerprints! Screen AND back.)
Since I wear glasses, I have two or three lying around from when I bought new specs, and one in the leather case I carry my XOOM in. You could probably go down to your local eye clinic and grab a few.
There is a thread in the Q & A section on this topic:
[Q] What should I use to Clean my Xoom Screen?
The most effective on there seem to either be getting the electronics wet wipes or using 50:50 distilled water : isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026MF17C
I went and bought that. I keep one in my sleeve for my Xoom. I also gave one to my girlfriend since I bought her a Xoom as well. They work very well. Couple swipes and screen is clean again.
I was using my microfiber cloth that came with my Nexus One, but its too small to handle the Xoom screen.
I strongly believe phones with touch screens should, out the box, from the manufacturer, come with a sleeve and cleaning cloth. Both my G1 and N1 did. We pay good money, throw some extra goodies in. Even the Xoom box looks like a kids puzzle box.
Good practice at keeping the prints low is to wash your hands often. Don't touch your face or hair.

I've been using the polishing cloth that came with an Apple cleaning kit I bought a couple of years ago for my laptop. I'm using the micro chamois, and only the micro chamois. I am not using either the wet wipe or the dry wipe in the kit. It's from a company called iKlear. I'm impressed enough to order a couple of them from Amazon right now actually. It does a bang up job of cleaning fingerprints etc.
http://www.amazon.com/Klear-Screen-iKlear-Micro-Chamois/dp/B0009YDP7W/
I use the cleaning cloth that came with the screen protector haha. it actually does a great job.
I just read to use rain-x and it helps cut down on finger prints.
How about a product called invisible glass? I've used it on my cars and it's been nothing but great and wondering how it would do with the Xoom's screen. I own the invisible glass problem is I don't own the Xoom yet to test it out
I've tried all of the best buy/electronics cleaners but...I find that this Dust Off brand LCD and plasma screen spray works really well...its just a little can and 1 or 2 sprays is plenty...and honestly the best cloth that I've found is just one of the micro fiber clothw from the automotive section at Walmart....its like $5 for a big package of 10 cloths and they're plenty big for the Xoom's screen size....they never cause any scratches on the screen or leave lint...they've worked the best outta all the rest for me and they're micro fiber and cheap....can't go wrong!
Just my opinion haha

+1 for the shirt. I tried some screen cleaner wipes in little packets, for travel convenience. They left too much liquid on the screen and didn't work well. I've used the microfiber cloth that came with the Xoom or with some glasses I've got. But, after many months with my Xoom, I'm just using my shirt sleeve (when wearing long sleeves) now. I've learned not to fear scratches and I've been pretty happy with my shirt since...
I have been using a product called Brillianize from Kleenmaster. I use this on all my tablets and phones with screen protectors and without. You just spray a little on the screen and wipe it over the entire surface and buff it off. Best product out there IMHO.

Is it just me, or does the GNex screen attract lint like bees to honey? I find myself carrying a cleaning cloth because of the noticeable amount of lint that clings to the touchscreen.
Anyone else come across this? Any remedies? ...maybe it's just my jeans lol
My last phone (the G2x) didn't have this problem whatsoever.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Check the lint filter in your dryer. It's your jeans.
If it actually was attracting dust you'd be shocking yourself on your phone all day. If however your Nexus does generate static electricity then I'd be concerned.
No problems here.

Holy dust batman!! Easy fix for you.. Don't wear pants! Totally acceptable in public btw .
Pretty normal here, my GS2 used to be a pain compared to the nexus.
However (and completely off topic) I'm pretty amused by how easy it is to scratch the (awesome) screen. Never thought a phone of this importance would ship with such a crappy screen on it. I knew it was not gorilla glass when I bought it, but damn, feels like ANYTHING can damage this thing.
I now have a 1 Euro coin stamped on the upper right hand corner. Just great.
Mine always has fingerprint smudges, dust etc on the screen. It got to a point that I don't even worry about it anymore. I just clean it every couple of days or so. It doesn't last of course.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Mine does gather a little dust under the edges of the case but nothing a quick wipe doesn't take care of.
I beg to differ about the screen durability though, it hardly smudges in comparison to my old U8800 or my Asus TFP and I'm yet to find even light scratching despite some brushes against metal buttons etc. *touch wood*.
Very happy GN user here
Mine doesnt gather dust, although perhaps its because I have a screen protector on it so maybe that helps it out.
Just need to wash them dirty jeans
I like Samsung phones because the screen is sealed so dirt from outside can't get underneath the screen. Though I guess that might make it harder to change digitizer though I haven't have broke any screens yet.
I use screen protector and TPU case, I don't really worry about dirt. Usually an easy wipe from the palm is enough if there are dirt.
You could try the XGear EXOSkin. The slippy surface of the skin maybe prevent dirts sticking.
without a case...my nexus is not a bad dust magnet at all
on the second day I had my nexus, a huge huge huge spider landed on my shoulder outside, my phone flew about 8 feet up in the air...totaling a drop of about 14 feet onto solid concrete. Luckilly it was in my trusty ballistics case I got in the mail the same day as my phone, it came out totally unscathed. After that (and the whole US-ban issue) im afraid to even take it out of the case at all...
Upon further inspection of the ballistics case, I actually found a very small device embedded in the rubber that does not attract dust...but actually creates it from the surrounding non-phone matter (mainly just air molecules as my pants seem fine). Im gonna call the local news stations tomorrow, this will probably be bigger news than the higgons boson.
I think your paranoid most screens gather dust.
My TPU case loves dust and things.

I actually commented on this exact topic to my mom recently. My inc2 never seemed to have more than the standard finger smudges on its screen. I clean my gnex all nice with a soft cloth, set it down, and five minutes later it looks like I haven't cleaned it in a week with all the dust on it. I don't know why, but it definitely makes dust more noticeable, if it doesn't attract it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Jeez, if it isn't hardware failure or software, it's something else. Now it's the dust and smudges. You people are paranoid.

Here's my story: I was sitting on my couch watching tv and mess in with my phone at the same time. I'm holding the phone in my left hand and decide to reach for the remote and change the channel. Unexpectedly somehow as I was reaching the phone slips from my hand and lands hard on my tile floor.
This was from couch height. The phone landed on a corner and then proceeded to fall flat on the screen.
I have no case (put off getting one..) and no screen protector. Just great.. I knew my phone was doomed.
I'm terrified I've heard about how fragile the s3 is and that gorrila glass 2 is all just crap and doesn't protect. I'm sure that my screen cracked at least a little. I pick up the phone... Nothing!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the phone. The screen is not cracked there is no scratches or scuff marks everything is perfect. Mint condition
I'm very happy and can say that the phone is not that fragie. I think it can withstand some minor accidental drops.
Needless to say I have a case on the way, can't let this happen again!
Just thought I'd share.

I hate cases and haven't used one in many, many phones. I have had minor scratches and scuffs because of that but haven't broken a single one (*knocks on wood*). I am pretty cautious about my phones though. I just love the feel of a new smartphone and a case absolutely ruins it, even more so for the screen protectors. Every time I try out someone's phone with a screen protector it drives me crazy, feels awful and builds up grime/finger grease/dirt even worse than the glass.
I couldn't stand the thought of putting a case on such a sleek thin phone. I met a guy who came into my job who had an SPIGEN Ultra Thin Air case. It adds virtually no bulk to the device and looks nice. I doubt it provides tons of protection but definitely will help for drops on the corners.
I haven't put a case on any of my Android phones, but I just put a case on my SGS3 for 2 reasons. It keeps the camera from contacting (dirty) surfaces if I lay it on its back, and it keeps the buttons from getting accidentally pressed during handling and/or passing around to show off a picture or other screen.
When I got it, I mainly thought I would try it for the camera protection (I'm not so much worried about damage to the lens cover as I am about having to constantly wipe it off to keep the view clean). I only discovered the button protection benefit after putting it on and handling it for a few minutes.
To me, the button protection is the key advantage as every Android phone that I've ever had has been a bear to try to share/show off pictures on. Perhaps my G1 wasn't so bad, but my Nexus One, my G2, and my Sensation all had the issue that if I brought up a picture and handed it to someone they would inevitably hand it back in a few seconds because they had locked the screen - or I'd get it back on silent mode because they'd rested their thumb on the volume keys. This past weekend at a party it got so bad that when I handed it to someone they would treat it like I was handing them a radioactive snowflake - they'd be so afraid to touch it or hold it that they would then end up brushing the screen and hitting the soft keys and mess up what was displayed for fear of hitting a real button. Now, I think those issues will be a thing of the past, or at least much less of a problem.
My case is a Cygnett matte slim case from Frys. It gives a little more holding friction which is a good thing, and while that makes it slightly less easy to slide into a tight pocket, it isn't really "grabby" enough to make pockets a problem. It's more of a soft textured plastic friction than a rubberized friction.
That's awesome!!! Just at least get a gloss clear TPU case from Amazon... it's 100% clear and it protects your phone, as if you have no case on it! Don't forget a screen protector lol...

You got lucky. Did the floor have carpet or a tile floor? I had the samething happend to me many years with my HTC T-Mobile Dash, it was charging, I picked it up and dropped on the carpet (maybe 3 feet) and shatterd the screen. Lucky for me I found a screen on ebay and replaced it for about $50. I can't imangine how much a new screen would cost for the S3.
It was a tile floor not carpet. And yeah I did get lucky...I can't afford to break this phone. Spent all my money on it. Still waiting on that white commuter case to ship though it's taking freaking forever!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
At least there was not any sustainable damage to it. With my luck, it would have shattered. Still, great news to hear that it has some resistance to it.
Dropped my SGS3 twice, face down both times. First time on a tile floor and the second time on concrete. This was prior to having any screen protector or case. I have two light scratches as a result, which are only visible at the right angle.
Can't really complain, was expecting the screen to break with the reports we've been hearing.
I would definitely cry if I dropped this phone. The S3 is too amazing to fall! I put a case on mine for that reason but I take it out every so often just so I can enjoy the nice slippery but sexy feeling of it naked lol.
I got the ghost armor kit for this phone in carbon fiber white on my white version. Not using the screen protectors at the moment.

I dont mind a naked note, but I use a nilken case because I absolutely despise the plastic feeling of the phone... who makes a large unwieldy 5.5" behemoth and give it a glossy and slippery plastic back... sigh... been spoiled by HTC's use of metal and soft plastic and the nexus 7's rubbery back. Otherwise I have no screen protector or insurance, I trust in my ability to hold the device as being able to hold it easily (without it feeling like a bar of soap is part of usability in my book)

I am. It slips in and out of the pocket nicely. I know the risks and pay for insurance. Even with some cases you can buy, if the phone falls and hits the screen , it'll shatter.
Threw down a thanks to Op..... Why not
I keep mine in a case and holster. Also have insurance on it. The phone is uncomfortable to keep in my pocket. Not worth it for me at any cost not to have it protected in a case.
I'm a sissy.
Bodyglove, Flygrip, and a Spigen screen protector for me. I pretty much keep mine around in light armor.
I have insurance as well, but I can't help it. It's too much of a hassle to redo everything and live with a dumbphone for a couple days.
Also, I kinda like the look better in a case than naked.
I was using my note with elago slimcase (IMO is the best hard slim case in the market) but ever since i had a couple bootloops due to my flashing addiction and had to remove the battery, the feell and look of a naked note2 is just something to behold. And ever since its just my naked note and I.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
No, because of the stupid cheap chromed plastic that Samsung uses around the edges.
Not only is the chrome finish easy to scratch due to its softness, but it actually rubs off over time revealing the color of the plastic underneath. Even if you keep the phone away from any dust or scratching agents the chrome will wear away in spots due to casual friction (in/out of pocket) in a few weeks/months. It looks terrible.
The only Galaxy phone I have able to use without a case that hasn't degraded cosmetically within a few weeks is the Galaxy Nexus. That phone didn't have any chintzy finishing. Please Korea, the chrome plastic trend needs to go.
Most of the time my Note is case free, but I have Invisible Shield installed. I like textured feel of back of the Note with protector installed.

You are gonna have major butt-hurt when you shatter your screen....GET A CASE!!!
Call me a gambler, butt naked here. Ill maybe do a nice gel skin if i can find one. I've just never liked cases that much.
Never. The darn thing is too big and slippery. A thin TPU case and a cheap screen protector buys me a ton of peace-of-mind.
I have insurance, too, but I really don't need to go through the hassle of replacing my GN2 if I can help it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Swyped from the closest Galaxy.
I've got the housing for both white and titanium so whenever this one gets worn down I'll swap out to the other one.
I agree with everyone else though whether you go naked or not..if u drop this on its screen ur done. Insurance is ultimately the best way to go.

F this gorilla glass 2 my nexus s and vibrant were amazing this sux!!! Glad I have insurance. How would I use it though lol never used insurance through tmo
I find the Samsung flip cover to be adequate. No it doesn't provide drop protection, but if you hold it with your left hand gripping the flap and right hand gripping the phone, it's very assuring and I don't think I'll ever drop it that way. The cover really helps provide a secondary grip.
Since the phones started getting bigger I stopped using cases just makes it bulky and ugly, whats the point of having a nice phone and covering with ugly bulky cases. That being said I have my note with flip case since its really not a case adds no bulk just covers screen.
