So I got tired of using a case and just ended up purchasing insurance for my phone.
Using my phone now worry free and enjoying the phone the way it was physically designed for.
Who is with me?
I know. Random post. Lol

I dont mind a naked note, but I use a nilken case because I absolutely despise the plastic feeling of the phone... who makes a large unwieldy 5.5" behemoth and give it a glossy and slippery plastic back... sigh... been spoiled by HTC's use of metal and soft plastic and the nexus 7's rubbery back. Otherwise I have no screen protector or insurance, I trust in my ability to hold the device as being able to hold it easily (without it feeling like a bar of soap is part of usability in my book)

Shattered my screen today rocking naked. Had a g1 gs1 and gs2 naked, but the problem with this phone is the edges are not raised. Hit the edge on concrete and your screwed. I was anti protector, but this phones screen is too available to shatter.

I am. It slips in and out of the pocket nicely. I know the risks and pay for insurance. Even with some cases you can buy, if the phone falls and hits the screen , it'll shatter.
Threw down a thanks to Op..... Why not
I keep mine in a case and holster. Also have insurance on it. The phone is uncomfortable to keep in my pocket. Not worth it for me at any cost not to have it protected in a case.
I'm a sissy.
Bodyglove, Flygrip, and a Spigen screen protector for me. I pretty much keep mine around in light armor.
I have insurance as well, but I can't help it. It's too much of a hassle to redo everything and live with a dumbphone for a couple days.
Also, I kinda like the look better in a case than naked.
I was using my note with elago slimcase (IMO is the best hard slim case in the market) but ever since i had a couple bootloops due to my flashing addiction and had to remove the battery, the feell and look of a naked note2 is just something to behold. And ever since its just my naked note and I.

No, because of the stupid cheap chromed plastic that Samsung uses around the edges.
Not only is the chrome finish easy to scratch due to its softness, but it actually rubs off over time revealing the color of the plastic underneath. Even if you keep the phone away from any dust or scratching agents the chrome will wear away in spots due to casual friction (in/out of pocket) in a few weeks/months. It looks terrible.
The only Galaxy phone I have able to use without a case that hasn't degraded cosmetically within a few weeks is the Galaxy Nexus. That phone didn't have any chintzy finishing. Please Korea, the chrome plastic trend needs to go.
Most of the time my Note is case free, but I have Invisible Shield installed. I like textured feel of back of the Note with protector installed.

I can't go naked on this phone. I had a tpu case on it since I got the phone, but last night I had a dream where the phone fell and hit right on the screen and shattered into pieces. This morning, I put it in the folio case. I'd rather be secure.
Rocking it naked till I get my case. Should be here soon. I would love to keep it without case but I am not gonna pay a monthly bill for that, so might as well protect it my self.

I pulled off a "naked note" for about a week, then took a fall and screen shattered! :crying: Now I know how those iphone guys feel!
You are gonna have major butt-hurt when you shatter your screen....GET A CASE!!!
Call me a gambler, butt naked here. Ill maybe do a nice gel skin if i can find one. I've just never liked cases that much.
Never. The darn thing is too big and slippery. A thin TPU case and a cheap screen protector buys me a ton of peace-of-mind.
I have insurance, too, but I really don't need to go through the hassle of replacing my GN2 if I can help it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Swyped from the closest Galaxy.
I've got the housing for both white and titanium so whenever this one gets worn down I'll swap out to the other one.
I agree with everyone else though whether you go naked or not..if u drop this on its screen ur done. Insurance is ultimately the best way to go.

Cases are for children and the clumsy. All my phones stay naked.
Been naked the whole time and I'm super pissed about the screen dropped it from waist high and it landed on carpet on the corner and it cracked the freaking screen!!!! F this gorilla glass 2 my nexus s and vibrant were amazing this sux!!! Glad I have insurance. How would I use it though lol never used insurance through tmo
I find the Samsung flip cover to be adequate. No it doesn't provide drop protection, but if you hold it with your left hand gripping the flap and right hand gripping the phone, it's very assuring and I don't think I'll ever drop it that way. The cover really helps provide a secondary grip.
Since the phones started getting bigger I stopped using cases just makes it bulky and ugly, whats the point of having a nice phone and covering with ugly bulky cases. That being said I have my note with flip case since its really not a case adds no bulk just covers screen.

Just a little warning-tip;
Do not buy the full body version!
It just covers up the plastic cover on the back, which is like impossible to scratch anyway.. And it doesn't stick very well either..
So yeah, don't buy the full body, just the screen protector
I took my time and installed it and mines looks great. The only bubble I have is around the back bump where the plastic curves at. I just got back from a Jamaica vacation and it performed great with all the sand and everything.
Im guessing your problem was user error.
The Zagg full body has two options.
Full body is just front and back
Full body Max is front, back, sides, top, and bottom.
Both are the same price from Zagg. I made the mistake of buying the wrong one so an expensive lesson.
I have the full body max coverage. My entire phone has the shield on with the exception to the screen. Zero issues, looks great. I have a lot of experience putting these shields on different phones.
I wouldn't recommend using any tpu film for the screen; they are far from optically clear and look terrible as time goes on.

I don't get why you would want to cover the back in a shiny thin layer , especially on a rough surface. Buy a barely there case from case mate for the back and a zagg for the screen . Looks much nicer and will protect it if you should drop it.
Simplez!!!!!

I know it sounds crazy but some people including myself dont like using cases. Someone like myself who likes to use my device naked can apply a zagg full body protector.
I just came back from jamaica and no silicon, hardcase or softcase will protect against sand particles to the body.

Take a look at your phone speeds.
Invisible shield, and all those full body/back covering plastic covers tend to prevent heat from dispersing.
Your phone will heat up faster, and you will (if you notice) find your phone cpu throttling down alot more often than other people. Battery life will be impacted too.
Hypothetically, your phone may just burn out faster, but who knows. I guess we'll find out in 9 month's time.
It's ok if you don't believe me. You just need to check your own mobile and judge yourself.
I instslled the zagg maximum coverage and use the samsung mesh case over it... Perfect combo. I have 2 sgs2's and both have the mesh case. The one without the zagg got dust from my pocket in between the mesh case and back of the phone and scratched it up. The one with the zagg is still perfect. I always use a case... And now i will always double up and use a zagg under the case. As far as heat goes... Who cares? The extremely thin layer of plastic doesnt make ANY difference in my 2 phones (one with, one without) so i say thats rubbish. On a side note, lots of cases cant be used with a zagg because they wont fit, the samsung mesh fits perfectly... Almost like it was meant to be!

My Nexus goes commando all the time. I think that a case or screen protectors just detract from the entire experience of having a phone like that. No scratches after almost two months of use.
After two weeks of use, I'm seriously considering buying a case. I've already got two micro scratches. It's hardly noticeable unless viewed from an angle, but still... I've taken to wrapping my phone with a piece of cloth whenever I put it in my pocket.
But yeah, I love the feel of the phone on my hand, especially the textured back plate.
Don't use a case or SP, but might be getting an SP soon once I can find one I like the sound of (dry application, NOT wet)
No case or screen protector. Manufacturers should be able to cover that themselves. If the phone can't take day-to-day use and abuse..why would you buy another product from them? Exact reason why I started buying Samsung, never had a Samsung phone fall apart (yet). Plus, it has a contour screen for a reason.
I keep my nexus in a gel case but that tends to collect dust around the edges. I do like the look of it when I remove the case to clean it, but I just don't wanna damage it.

Well said! I have my Galaxy Nexus for 1 month : no screen scratch.
My previous one, an htc desire has been for 18 months in my pocket just next to my money and my keys...absolutly no scratch.
So... i don't want to troll but it seems screen on android phones are hard to scratch unlike iphone's one.
Yes, real glass is more luxurious...but not scratch resistant.

Here's my story: I was sitting on my couch watching tv and mess in with my phone at the same time. I'm holding the phone in my left hand and decide to reach for the remote and change the channel. Unexpectedly somehow as I was reaching the phone slips from my hand and lands hard on my tile floor.
This was from couch height. The phone landed on a corner and then proceeded to fall flat on the screen.
I have no case (put off getting one..) and no screen protector. Just great.. I knew my phone was doomed.
I'm terrified I've heard about how fragile the s3 is and that gorrila glass 2 is all just crap and doesn't protect. I'm sure that my screen cracked at least a little. I pick up the phone... Nothing!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the phone. The screen is not cracked there is no scratches or scuff marks everything is perfect. Mint condition
I'm very happy and can say that the phone is not that fragie. I think it can withstand some minor accidental drops.
Needless to say I have a case on the way, can't let this happen again!
Just thought I'd share.

I hate cases and haven't used one in many, many phones. I have had minor scratches and scuffs because of that but haven't broken a single one (*knocks on wood*). I am pretty cautious about my phones though. I just love the feel of a new smartphone and a case absolutely ruins it, even more so for the screen protectors. Every time I try out someone's phone with a screen protector it drives me crazy, feels awful and builds up grime/finger grease/dirt even worse than the glass.
I couldn't stand the thought of putting a case on such a sleek thin phone. I met a guy who came into my job who had an SPIGEN Ultra Thin Air case. It adds virtually no bulk to the device and looks nice. I doubt it provides tons of protection but definitely will help for drops on the corners.
I haven't put a case on any of my Android phones, but I just put a case on my SGS3 for 2 reasons. It keeps the camera from contacting (dirty) surfaces if I lay it on its back, and it keeps the buttons from getting accidentally pressed during handling and/or passing around to show off a picture or other screen.
When I got it, I mainly thought I would try it for the camera protection (I'm not so much worried about damage to the lens cover as I am about having to constantly wipe it off to keep the view clean). I only discovered the button protection benefit after putting it on and handling it for a few minutes.
To me, the button protection is the key advantage as every Android phone that I've ever had has been a bear to try to share/show off pictures on. Perhaps my G1 wasn't so bad, but my Nexus One, my G2, and my Sensation all had the issue that if I brought up a picture and handed it to someone they would inevitably hand it back in a few seconds because they had locked the screen - or I'd get it back on silent mode because they'd rested their thumb on the volume keys. This past weekend at a party it got so bad that when I handed it to someone they would treat it like I was handing them a radioactive snowflake - they'd be so afraid to touch it or hold it that they would then end up brushing the screen and hitting the soft keys and mess up what was displayed for fear of hitting a real button. Now, I think those issues will be a thing of the past, or at least much less of a problem.
My case is a Cygnett matte slim case from Frys. It gives a little more holding friction which is a good thing, and while that makes it slightly less easy to slide into a tight pocket, it isn't really "grabby" enough to make pockets a problem. It's more of a soft textured plastic friction than a rubberized friction.
That's awesome!!! Just at least get a gloss clear TPU case from Amazon... it's 100% clear and it protects your phone, as if you have no case on it! Don't forget a screen protector lol...

Downside is that the TPU case will no longer be clear in 3 weeks :/ It'll start to yellow.
You got lucky. Did the floor have carpet or a tile floor? I had the samething happend to me many years with my HTC T-Mobile Dash, it was charging, I picked it up and dropped on the carpet (maybe 3 feet) and shatterd the screen. Lucky for me I found a screen on ebay and replaced it for about $50. I can't imangine how much a new screen would cost for the S3.
It was a tile floor not carpet. And yeah I did get lucky...I can't afford to break this phone. Spent all my money on it. Still waiting on that white commuter case to ship though it's taking freaking forever!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
At least there was not any sustainable damage to it. With my luck, it would have shattered. Still, great news to hear that it has some resistance to it.
Dropped my SGS3 twice, face down both times. First time on a tile floor and the second time on concrete. This was prior to having any screen protector or case. I have two light scratches as a result, which are only visible at the right angle.
Can't really complain, was expecting the screen to break with the reports we've been hearing.
I would definitely cry if I dropped this phone. The S3 is too amazing to fall! I put a case on mine for that reason but I take it out every so often just so I can enjoy the nice slippery but sexy feeling of it naked lol.
I got the ghost armor kit for this phone in carbon fiber white on my white version. Not using the screen protectors at the moment.

Or covers up the ones you already got rocking naked
Makes it less slippery too

I recently won a bid on ebay for a note II so naturally i want to protect it the best i can. I am the type of person who can be a bit hard on phones. I drop them, sometimes things can fall on them and so on so i need good protection. I pretty much have an otterbox on everything i own so i figured i would order one for my note II. Im wondering if i made a mistake because the reviews im reading arent very good. Can anyone comment about the case on the note II? Most things im reading is the outside stretches quickly and the plastic screen protector really diminishes the quality of the screen. If this is a bad case, can someone recommend the best solution for protecting the phone AND the screen, even if its two seperate parts.
I have the otterbox for note 2. Hasn't stretched at all. It's a chore to get it off really.
My wife's gs3 otterbox has stretched. But this one is much better.
It's great for falls, but it's not sealed as much as the evo otterbox. Not sure this case would save the note 2 from a fall in the dog water bowl like evo did.

Not trying to pick on you. But statements like this make me shake my head. Big deal the case scratches. It's better the case than the phone, right? Not that I'm ignorant, and know you don't want some case that's going to look like a cat scratching toy after a month. From what I read, usually the shinny slick cases tend to show more scratches.
As for the screen, I don't think you'll notice much if any deminished screen output from the screen protector if you've been using the Otterbox Defender on previous phones. I don't think it's that likely the screen protector is that much different from other Defenders for other phones.
My guess, I think you're psyching yourself out.
When I had my otterbox, I removed the built in "screen protector" and had a zagg on it. I dont like the built in one as sand and small particles can get inbetween screen and the "protector" and when you use it. Your mashing thos into the screen. I would advise you to remove the screen protector and install your own directly onto the phone. Other than that great case.

Apparently you are ignorant. I said stretches, as in the rubber stretches quickly causing it not to stay on the phone, no scratches.

Well, as lovely of compliment that is, either I don't know know the difference between stretch and scratch, or I wasn't paying close enough attention. Given what I wrote, the safer bet is the later. Thus, my most of drabble was not on point. But I digress....
Back to the topic at hand, As for screen protectors, I suggest checking out this thread, Screen Protector Reviews in the international GN2 subforum. It's 28 pages of this morning. I stopped reading it about a month or so ago. There was another thread, even longer, but it got removed.
Personally, I use the Just Like Glass screen protector. It's a wet application. Covers all viewable screen, but doesn't go to the edge. So cases that go over the edge won't push on it, like TPU cases with lips don't play nice with screen protectors that do go the edge. I'm not sure how the defender sits on the phone off the top of my head, so not sure if the JLG would work well or not. Since you're so rough on phones, it may be. JLG uses similar tech to hurricane glass, and claim it adds 35% shatter resistance; their numbers, not mine. It's stiff, really thin, and it feels very similar to the actual glass. I like it.
It's not perfect. It will get small scratches. I have a couple, but I rarely notice them. There is a rainbow effect that can be seen under halogen lights and the screen off. When the screen is on, you don't see it, at least I never have. It's a side effect from the UV protection the protector has. Some complain that screen protector scratches easily. I don't know how easily, but I have a few, but I don't see them when the display is on. I'm not sure if they came with one or not, but I know JLG owner was looking into getting a dry application model. Plus, unless something has changed, JLG goes give good customer service. Shoot an email to the ower, some guy named Scott, and he'll work with you as much as possible. He knows screen protector isn't for everyone.
It also works very well with the Spen. Others have had issues, from what I read, with Zagg Invisishield. The Spen sticks, unresponsive, to actaully scratching the screen protector. Some have said the Zagg's HD works well. But from what I gathered, for the Spen to work well, you'll want to get the thinner protects, which end up being less scratch resistant.
Here a picture of my GN2 shortly after I put it on:
if you click the picture, you can see a really big picture. But you can see how much of the GN2 it covers. I use a Cruzerlite TPU clear case. I'm still using the same screen protector and case, which has been close to six months.
For me, as long as the flaws are noticeable when the screen is on, it doesn't bother me. It's currently being sold for $13.50, so it's one of the more reasonable priced protectors. It only comes packaged with one protector.
Hopefully that helps.

I appreciate the reply. After doing a ton of searching, I found just about everyone who bought a SGP Ultra Oleophobic seemed to love it so I'm gonna try that. I wanted to get the just like glass but the wet application sort of scared me away. I'll report my findings when I get it and the phone.

I agree with this.

I really like zagg. They give you lifetime warranty so if protector begins to peel you can get another for free.

Not really free. You have to return the original and pay for shipping. Now Otterbox's warranty is second to none. Just send it pics of damage and they will send you out a replacement completely free of charge. Now when I bought the first black Defender I had a pretty nice gap between the built in screen protector and the phone's screen. It really was annoying especially playing games or texting. I ended up giving that one to my wife and buying the grey/white one off Amazon for $35. This one has no gap and fits like its supposed to. It's been a few months and I've had no problem with dust in screen or silicone stretching. This one seems to be built correctly. Not so much for the Defender for my EvoLTE. Been a year and I'm on my 5th one.

Otterbox Warranty: they didn't even request a picture when my evo case broke. Just took down the info and sent me a new one and told me to discard the old one.
I was amazed. Shows how much they stand behind their product.

I bought the white glacer outer box with holster and only used it one day....its too big any one wants to buy it send me a pm.

I popped out the screen protector part as dust kept getting in the stupid hole they cut in it. My phone stays in my pocket with nothing else so no scratches on the screen. If I'm going to throw my phone in my wife's bag when traveling or something like that I bring the clip to protect it. Worked for me so far..
I'm a contractor and I've put my otter box through hell, I remove it every night and have for six months and it hasn't stretched a bit. My phone is still cherry because of this case, I've dropped it 10 feet gotten concrete on it and it's coated in crap every day. Once you get used to all the iPhone kids making fun of the size it's awesome!

They make fun because they are jealous.

maybe. I think it's more from ignorance and being mindless Apple-drones.
Any one of you guys uses screen protectors . I always use one but hate the orange peel effect and cheap one going dull after a week. i have zagg. And now ghost armor on the screen. Does any who does not have screen protector and yet screen is not scratched?

I've had my phone over a year and a half...no screen protector. But I do have a seidio hard case and holster. I do construction and drop it and use it with dirty hands a lot. I have like maybe 2 tiny scratches. But nothing that shows up when the screen is lit up.
I think its not easy to scratch these. Maybe bare in a pocket with other stuff or a purse maybe....but that's just asking for scratches.

I've had the phone for 8 months and have dropped it on cobblestone and gravel - both times fearing the worst after the phone's ending position has been face down. No noticeable scratches on the screen. The cobblestone drop was in part cushioned by my foot, but the gravel drop yielded some serious dents on the shiny frame. I'm glad to see the phone is handling abuse this well.
I'm generally not a fan of covering up a phone I've bought with bulky (or not so bulky) cases and covers. I've yet to see one of those making the phone look better.
I've had my s2 for over a year without a case or screen protector and I only got 1 tiny scratch up by the clock and is not noticeable with screen on and also I took a really fine grit sandpaper for plastic and sanded the shiny trim off my phone so its all black and nice and smooth and it really looks a lot better!
For me, in my job....I could care less how my phone looks....I need it to not break! LOL
Big bulky hard case and holster all the way! I think it looked good anyway....tho case is scratched to crap now.
Not shelling out for a new one while I'm on contact ....been there done that.

I heard our phone are not gorilla glass just some reinforced glass. The international version are indeed gorilla glass, tmo cut corners on our phone . They said s3(dead) is gorilla glass and ive got scratches on it after about a month owning it. the s2 is my phone untill contract is over.

I've had a habit of putting my lighter or some change in the same pocket as my phone, and in the past it's scratched my phones all to hell. Not an issue with the s2.

I've got scratches on my back since last weekend . Can't remember how I got them there. Hmmmmm

Gorilla glass, or whatever glass on the phones don't help with scratch resistance.
It's all about direct impact resistance so the screen doesn't break as soon as you tap on it really hard.
All screens get scratched but it is a matter of noticing them. The only way to prevent them is with a wet applied protector as static clings probably do micro abrasions and whatnot that no one notices without a strong light.
Had my phone about 2 years now. The silver band around the rim is chipped and scratched at the corners. However, the screen itself is still completely clean without any marks.
i have used ghost armor for almost 2 years, had it replaced for 5 bucks twice, works great
Had screen protector for about a year took it off no scratches. Don't think u need a screen protector at all for this phone
However my bezels are completely ****ed lol

Minor
Have had my gs2 since it came out and I have one minor nic on the screen, i've dropped it about 20 times atleast, use to be the ARMY so i'd take it to the field and jump out of planes with it, has been a great phone would really love xperia z but to broke to get one, you know how it is.
82nd 2/325AIR case anyone knows
for those without protectors/cases put your phones under a bright light, what bothers me are the micro scratches LOL
screen protector
I use zagg mostly for non-smudging. No problems with scratches.

ive always used screen protectors, and once I change it after a few months.....crystal clear again. I have a bad habit of puting change and keys in my pocket with my phone but no scratches what so ever.
I've had this thing since release and only a few tiny scratches from going to the beach. Never has a screen protector. Only a d30 case from T-Mobile.

I do not use a screen protector. I have had this T989 since last February, and I have no noticeable scratches, although it is rarely in a pocket with anything else, and has only been dropped when wearing a heavy case. Luckily.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
I've always used a big bulky otterbox like case...seidio...with holster.....and tonnes of 6 foot and less drops....no damage. Just the bezel, from the case. No screen protector ever.
Plan on getting the N4 soon tho....it'll have the toughest case I can find! Lol
