no go for me in the bronx. still slow but 4g is right where it needs to be!
You must be living directly under a tower or the force is strong with you. Nothing happening at my end.
That's the speed we got in Buffalo NY(150-250kbps).
Buffalo-the second largest city in NY always gets **** last, even Rochester has 4g.
But when i was in Rochester i tried 4g and it was almost the same as 3g about 700kbps which is the speed t mobile had 4 years ago with better ping on their 3g+,lol.
I just recently recieved my airwave and noticed that if im running on prl 00001 the bars are constantly jumping from full to two and sometimes none. Even if I have full bars the data still runs slow. If I update my prl it goes into full bars and data runs properly but prl 00001 gets me better service with no dropped calls while on the go. What shoukd I do?
You have have full bars but you can be on 1x
Most custom roms tell you if your on 3g or 1x
Also you can use the speed test app and it'll tell you on what you are on
And I'm not to sure on this but I don't think air wave does data

If you are on 00001, you likely are not connecting to the airave since that is looked at as a Sprint tower.
My cousin has an airave, and it seems to do data as well.

Dial *99 to see if your connected..
I have SENSATIONS and its WICKED!!
I dialed *99 and it said I am connected to it but the voice was very choppy you coukd hardly hear but I do get service throughout the house now just twwo to three bars not full bars like I would get if I was on a regular prl
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
So what tower does prl 00001 connect to if it reads airwave as a sprint tower? And does this mean any manual uodated prl wont connect to airwave?

Unless Tmo planned for 1.5 years ahead when they launched the Herc, I doubt we have the right hardware. Hopefully it does have support and Tmo did plan for the future but they're keeping it a secret . Because when they build the source for a ROM, they don't take out individual little things for certain devices.

Because firmwares are made by Samsung and the skyrocket has lte. The firmwares are designed for simplicity. Meaning, Samsung only has to make one firmware for all variants. That's why that option is there.

Actually the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-T999) is NOT capable of it period. I have one. But i did read rumors that they may be making another S3, one with the exact same specs, but adding an LTE capable chip. T-Mobile went on the cheap side with their S3 and used the same chip as the ATT and other variants, but cut out the LTE capabilities. Kinda dumb but hey im not the CEO. lol.
But you are right, the Note 2 just needs a firmware update to enable LTE, also, the only other phone capable of T-Mobile LTE is the Windows Phone 8X.

To better answer/consolidate the above replies:
When you are on 3G data (watching a youtube video, on the web browser, etc) you will still get phone calls, however the data connection will stop to allow the phone call to take place. You will also be able to receive text messages however the data will stop for a brief second (the phone actually goes to 1x for a brief second)
When you are on 4G LTE, you can make phone calls with no problem. The data connection will remain active and you can talk at the same time.

And if you're on wifi, you can make and receive calls while surfing. It is only the 3g cdma radio that mucks things up.

Yes you still get calls. Unless you enable DDTM from settings. Which sends calls straight to vm if you're on active data.
There are cdma phones that do talk and surf but unfortunately our Notes is not one of them even though it came out after all the others ones that can! Damn Samsung Retards.. :banghead:

This is not entirely Samsung's fault. This is a 3g CDMA radio tech problem requiring SVDO being needed....and Samsung making a multi-carrier handset that has identical hardware.
And yes you can talk and surf so long as you either have LTE and 3g available or have wifi and 3g available.

You do know the Galaxy S3 can do talk and surf at the same time on 3G right? (Which is a Samsung). So can the Evo LTE, Viper 4G LTE, and a few others.. I would like to know why the Note 2 was excluded!

Evdo is part of the qualcomm soc that is in the us variants of the s3 as well as what's used in htc's us version of the one x and Evo4glte. Our note 2 uses an exonos soc and that doesn't have evdo. Period.

I've read a few times and I'm a bit confused. You say it's a 3G CDMA radio tech problem requiring SVDO and Samsung making a multi-carrier handset that had identical hardware. Ok.. Wasn't the GS3 a multi-carrier handset with identical hardware? It handles it fine on Sprint's 3G.
The other thing that has me confused was when you said:
And yes you can talk and surf so long as you either have LTE and 3g available or have wifi and 3g available. Were you referring to the GS3 or the Note? Because the Note can't handle calls and web surfing on 3G.

And this is the exact answer I needed to hear. That explains it thoroughly. Which brings me to my next question. Why didn't they go with the qualcomm instead of going backwards? It's like technology advances for CDMA 3G and then Samsung decides to take a step backwards.
Edit: Nevermind I got my answer. Sprint/Samsung sacrificed SVDO for WCDMA support instead. At least that's what I'm getting from researching.

Yes I picked that up when researching and people saying is the processor, but sgr4u and a few others speculated it really was put aside for WCDMA support for faster 3G due to the placing if antennas. Which to me makes perfect sense because if Samsung can get LTE to work on their chips what's SVDO to them?
