Re-Install Gingerbread 2.3.3 for HTC Desire - Desire General

Hi,
I have a rooted HTC Desire and S-Off, presently running on Runnymede AIO. Its a beautiful rom and i have created my partition for extra storage. I realised after installing the rom that the camera does not function properly.
I wanted to reinstall original HTC Desire Gingerbread 2.3.3 which was previously installed ensuring that my device remains rooted and s-off and my partition is also maintained to avoid any internal storage issue.
Can anyone help me with the same.
Zakir

Here is something I made, it's made from official GB RUU and has a few changes (added a2sd, init.d support... You'll see there). You also have rom there that's just rooted and nothing else changed.

If you don't like it go here:

There's a plenty of choices.

Ok im guessing you have clockworkmod. I would recommend flashing a rom. Find one here, and download it to your sd card. Boot into recovery choose wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced>wipe dalvik, install zip from sdcard, find the rom you downloaded and then flash it.

Yp i have clockworkmod cant i download this one

Or do i have to install a custom rom then do this?

Yes that should work fine. You dont need to install a custom rom first...that is a custom rom.
Make sure you meet the requirements in the op. You may need an ext partition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125513

I personally wouldnt even install that rom. Its pretty old and unsupported. I would recommend this rom. It will be faster, and have better battery than the stock sense rom. Why not create a partition? It will allow you to overcome the low space of the desire and install lots of apps. And it honestly isnt that hard as shown in this guide. If you need more clarification feel free to ask me.
If you really want that stock rom, then go with the deodexed version.

Ok i think i will try that rom and is it on gingerbread.

Theres no need to install link2sd as there is an a2sd script built into the rom.
As for a launcher you can just go to the play store and download a new one, or if you really want xperia home you can get it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/j7bsvuavhzy1s9f/Launcher2.apk
You need to download it and put it into system/app using a root file explorer, then reboot.

Yea you probably borked everything with the install of link2sd. You should do a full wipe and reflash the rom. After reinstalling the rom dont install link2sd or anything like that. A2sd is activated by default so as long as you created the partition properly it should work fine automatically.

[Q] How to flash the ROM?

Hi is there somewhere a guide how to flash the ROMs and any list of available ROMs?
Can you advice, recommend some particular ROM?
Hi first of all you have created 2 new threads when you could of created one and asked both questions.
Im assuming that you are rooted looking at your other thread. You need to make sure you have clockworkmod recovery installed, if you haven't the easiest way to do get it is to download ROM manager from the market. Load the app and at the top it will say flash clockworkmod recovery. click on this and this will install CWM recovery for you.
ROM manager is a great tool that les you down load and install ROM's from within the app.
The ROM's available in ROM manager are as follows I'm not going to go in to to much detail, I recommend you have a good read through the dev section about the different ROM's that are available.
CyanogenMod: Is the one of the most popular ROM's available, it is pretty much stock with a few awesome tweaks.
Virtuous: A custom Sense based ROM
MIUI: a really unique ROM that looks more like the iPhone UI, some people love it offers a lot of eye candy and some cool built in features.
There are lots of other ROM's available in the DEV section.
You can download the above ROM's directly from ROM manager and install them really easily just by following the pop ups. Or you can download ROM's from the the DEV forum and place on to your sdcard. Here is a step by step guide.
1, Download your chosen ROM to your sdcard.
2, Reboot in to recovery, select this option from within ROM manager.
3, You will now be in CWM recovery, select back up and restore then backup, this is really important and you should do this before flashing anything. it will enable you to restore you phone to a previous problem free state if you ever mess anything up.
4, Select wipe data, you should do this whenever flashing different types of rom, for example if you are running MIUI and want to switch to virtuous you need to wipe data.
5, Wipe cache, all ways do this regardless of what you are flashing.
6, Head to advance, and wipe dalvik cache.
7, Now time to flash your ROM,
8, Select install zip from sdcard.
9, choose zip from sdcard
10, Navigate to your ROM and select it for flashing.
11, Once complete reboot your phone and you should be running a custom ROM.
It will be worth investing in an app such as titanium backup, this will allow you to back up all your apps and settings, when you install a ROM for the first time and you have to wipe data you will lose everything you have installed and all you settings, Titanium Backup will allow you to restore your apps and setting once you installed a new ROM.
If you want a recommendation for a ROM my personal preference is CM7.
With regards to your other thread, don't worry to much about not having a back up there are guides available for unrooting and going back to stock if you ever need to, not that you will want to after trying custom ROM's
Hope this helps, good luck
Thanks a lot for your reply ,this is exactly what I was looking for now a little calm down

Superuser still the same problem. However maybe I forget to mention it but I've already installed it. It was installed automatically during I was rooting my phone using adb command. Now I just wanted to update it and the problem appears as I described in one of the previous posts herein.
Maybe it is not necessary to update it but I am curious why this problem occurs.

You have helped already sufficiently a lot.
Now I ma trying to flash the ROM and as the first one I've chosen CM7
Before I'll do it pls confirm if I'm thinking the right way.
First I'll do backup all my apps (also titanium, Superuser and Rom manager need it? I suppose Yes, or somehow they backup automatically?) Maybe better question is what should be backuped, I am asking because on the list in titanium there are also apps like clock which are delivered with the software. You know after flashing a new Rom and restoring all aps I'd like to avoid overwriting them by the backuped ones.
The second is after apps backup I need to move created file from my phone into my PC,right? The same after system backup by clockworkmod recovery?

With titanium you just want to back up user apps and data (apps you have downloaded and installed). You can choose to back up system apps but you don't want to restore them after flashing the new rom.
You don't need to copy back up files to your pc, your memory card will not get wiped during the flashing process.

One do you have CWM installed. If so boot to recovery and wipe Dalvik cache and wipe cache partition.
Make sure these are the only permissions set ON; Read-Owner, Read-Group, Read-Others and Write-Owner.

You can use ES File Explorer from the market, its free. Navigate to the apk(/system/app) and set the permissions.
i havent deleted anything else..hmm ok help me with re-falshing or running the RUU
By chance did you try to change the permissions on the apk after you copied it back? Then you would need to reboot the phone after, my bad I forgot to state that.
But if that did not work, then go to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445 and find your version RUU.

Since you have CWM installed then do use Jikantaru ROM, he does excellent work!
Other wise if you ran the RUU it would over right the CWM and root, so you would have to do that all over again, unless you just extracted the rom.zip file and installed that thru CWM.
ok...will this fix my problem?? i have 4 custom roms im a lil confused which to select http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314430..i would prefer this bcoz i need internal memory or this 1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317931....then cm7 port and da other one which i hav already told u b4...
In essence yes. This will wipe and install a fresh ROM. If I was you, try all of them to find which one better suites your needs. They are all developed by talented people with each there own style and taste. Just try them at least for two days each to properly understand the differences. You will not go wrong with any in my opion.
after installing custom rom can i change back to original rom??

You need to root manually before flash is kernel.
And for me link2sd works perfectly on 2.3.6.

S2E is currently only reserved to CM7, but there are works going on to port it to CM9.
Link2SD works perfectly on stock with custom kernel that support ext4. I use it all the time after all the disappointments with CM.
There are different methods, too, but Link2SD seems the easiest and most reliable.

madelgijs, maybe you didn't mount /system before flashing the kernel? I forgot this plenty of times and it was the cause of no root nor superuser.apk.

Unmodded stock rom (before deodex and/or bloatware removal) has system partition almost full, so there's no more space left for su and superuser binaries (I ran into this issue several times). You can check free space even on unrooted devices using Android Commander (PC app).
TIP: also, CWM recovery has adb root enabled and you can use Android commander for root operations while in recovery mode (don't forget to mount /system first!).
Ah, right! I totally forgot about that. For me it was natural to purge crapware from stock . About 50MBs free more.
Thanks for all the hints and tips. I was succesful by rooting the ROM first and installing the kernel afterwards. Everything works fine - but I should clean out some crapware, too, good idea ;-)

Clean ROM

Hi. I want a clean ROM having HTC Sense. I want it the closest possible to stock so that everything works although I would not mind if it is unlocked so that I can move apps to sdcard. I cannot download from football's thread as I tried and all roms i tried failed. Is there another one? I am currently running CM9 but I dont like it very much as it is slow and does not have sense.
Thanks
I have made a flashable zip from the RUU HTC Asia India. If you want you can get it here:

Maybe install stock rom with root, then install Dust kernel ( with overclock) then install Link2SD + No-frills CPU+ APP Quarantine --> And You have a stock fast and space free rom
Thanks. I will try these during the weekend and let you know.

[Q] Rooted my phone, can't flash any roms (I made a huge mistake)

A couple of months ago, I was getting bored of my phone so I decided to upgrade to android 2.3.3. I like it, but I felt like I should root my phone too. Heres the problem, I couldn't get unrevoked to work so I used revolutionary instead. They didn't have my hboot version so I proceeded with one of the hboot versions listed.
Everything went smoothly, my phone was now rooted, and I was able to free up more internal storage. I really wanted to flash a new rom though, so I commenced with the MIUI rom, and ended up getting stuck in a bootloop. I tried cynogen and the same thing happened. I tried a couple of other roms too, but none of them worked. I was just continuously getting stuck in a bootloop. (Yes, I cleared dalvik cache, wipe data etc..)
Has anyone else on the Desire done the same thing as I have? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Hard to say what goes wrong on your end. First, I would suggest you to go ahead with stock hboot from http://alpharev.nl/ and flash a newer recovery tool, e.g. this one (4EXT Touchrecovery).
Then try one of VJ's JB roms and post the results.

a2sd is a script that allows you to install apps onto your sd card (specifically an ext partition). This is very useful since the desires internal memory is pretty bad, and with a2sd you can have around 1gb of space for apps. Some roms need an ext partition to work properly/boot.
Follow this guide to make the partition.

You should have used titanium backup for backing up your apps.
If u still have a nandroid backup of stock, you could restore it, backup apps with tb, flash the new rom, and finally restore the apps with tb.

I don't have a playstore anymore. I tried downloading it but it wouldn't open. And sorry if I'm annoying you with my stupidity with the whole flashing process :L You have been great help though and I thank you for that.
I'm going to try flashing that gapps to get it back, hopefully.

No play store? Are you sure? Look in system/app. Is there a Vending.apk there? Does it have the right permissions?

Erm I don't think so. Hmm at this point in time I'm not really keen in wasting more time sorting this out. Thanks anyway though.
