One do you have CWM installed. If so boot to recovery and wipe Dalvik cache and wipe cache partition.
Make sure these are the only permissions set ON; Read-Owner, Read-Group, Read-Others and Write-Owner.
This should reset the application back.
how to install cwm???srry im a noob..i need everything in detail..plss

many force closes r occuring google services framework and android.process.acore
Sounds like you did more than delete the com.android.providers.contacts.apk.
You might be better off re-flashing your ROM or do as ahmadns said and just run the RUU to restore your phone.

You can use ES File Explorer from the market, its free. Navigate to the apk(/system/app) and set the permissions.
i havent deleted anything else..hmm ok help me with re-falshing or running the RUU
By chance did you try to change the permissions on the apk after you copied it back? Then you would need to reboot the phone after, my bad I forgot to state that.
But if that did not work, then go to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445 and find your version RUU.
ya i changed da permission...should i put da same RUU or can i put a different one?? i was planning to do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260590

Since you have CWM installed then do use Jikantaru ROM, he does excellent work!
Other wise if you ran the RUU it would over right the CWM and root, so you would have to do that all over again, unless you just extracted the rom.zip file and installed that thru CWM.
ok...will this fix my problem?? i have 4 custom roms im a lil confused which to select http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314430..i would prefer this bcoz i need internal memory or this 1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317931....then cm7 port and da other one which i hav already told u b4...
In essence yes. This will wipe and install a fresh ROM. If I was you, try all of them to find which one better suites your needs. They are all developed by talented people with each there own style and taste. Just try them at least for two days each to properly understand the differences. You will not go wrong with any in my opion.
after installing custom rom can i change back to original rom??

try a data wipe, root will persist. assuming you didn't mess too much stuff up you should be back to stock with su
but agreed, something like this would be useful if you messed it up and didn't backup first

Ok so I'm new to androids completly. Was looking to root my new phone. Let me start off by saying I'm in Japan and have the HTC Evo 4G. I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

Take out the battery, put it back in, hold volume down + power key for 3-5 seconds to get into bootloader. Theres a youtube video, can't remember what its called, but it shows step by step on how to root through Revolutionary. Very easy. Took me like 5 min to root

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

Ok got it all figured out. To be honest you had me lost and I almost made another noob post but I got it now. Figured out the whole flash to SD card deal. I am 100% rooted now. Now for a ROM
I downloaded the synergy rom and it deleted my carrier email app. Do all roms do this?? I'll say it again here, I'm in japan so might be a little different from the states. Anybody know how I could get it back using this rom?? Or a good rom to use that won't delete this app.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?

Hi, I'm a complete newb to rooting Android phones, so I'd like to apologize in advance. I current;y have a Galaxy S2 SGH-T989, and I wanted to flash some custom ROMS onto it. I have just rooted my phone (after many painstaking hours) and am now atempting to install superuser, which didn't come with the root. When I open clockworkmod, it cant detect the .zip file containing superuser. HOWEVER, once I moved the .zip to a subfolder (DCIM), clocworkmod could detect it, bit could not finish installation and aborted. Any tips on how to make it see it under the main directory? Or how to tell it to complete installation?
R u putting it on the external sd?
Sent from a real macnut on my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
It has to be on the root of the sd
Sometimes it takes a few times for it to stick ...
Put su in external sd, flash you will Get a error then do nandroid backup and then restore
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA
OK this is what u got to do... when on computer and u are dragging the su zip over to your sdcard. (Has to be external) make sure u are not sticking it in a directory ( or sub folder) just drag it and pretty much drop it under the folders make sure it does not go into any of the folders like I said. Then u should see the su zip . Now when u go into clock work mod go to install from sdcard (make sure u choose external) find the zip....again it shouldn't be in any directories (folders). Flash it it might error out....but do not leave cwm stay in there and reflash it until it says it installed correctly. Should take two or three times. Then boot up u will see su in app folder. Go to market. Dl busy box. Install it then go into app and install busy box. Now u are good to go. Also after all that is said and done go back into recovery and go to backup and restore and choose backup. Now u will have a backup of rooted stock rom in case something happens on custom rom u can always revert back to ur backup.........also did u install recovery thru Odin? U had to because rom manager needs root....anyways if u flashed recovery (cwm) thru Odin. I don't think u technically need to root. U can just flash any custom from (there all rooted). The reason y don't have to root is because unlike from manager which needs root first to install recovery. Odin didn't thus this is why u technically don't need to root if u want to tho do it and remember always make a backup! Before flashing custom roms !
Thanks for all the replies, but I have one problem,I don't have an external sd card. Us there any way around this?

You need to uninstall SuperSU if you were rooted before installing cyanogenmod, as CM comes with another superuser app... SO go into your apps find superSU and uninstall it

You lose installed apps, settings that you set when you started the phone, WiFi, wallpaper, texts/phone log, contacts
If you pick to back up to Google when you first set up the rom you can restore all the above apart from texts and call logs.

fyi, lite rom is modified stock, not custom rom
On ES File Explorer:
1. Click on the button on the top left corner.
2. A menu will apear, scroll down untill you see Root Explorer. Click on OFF and it will become ON.
3. Now click on Root Explorer.
4. Choose Mount R/W.
5. Choose which partitions to mount as RW.
Another solution:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree&hl=bg
This app automatically mounts the partitions as RW.
