Anyone know where to get a mobo? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought another Kindle off eBay, but the USB is busted, figured I could fix it......and I was wrong. The mobo still works, but I'd rather just replace it with a known working USB.....anyone know where to get them?
Sent from my Clean Developed Rezound

I Googled them and only found 2 sources. One place wanted $100 for one, and they have been out of stock at the 2nd source for the last 2 months. I couldn't absolutely correctly identify a replacement for the USB connector either. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Nope...I think we found the same sites. I guess I'll have to buy another broken one to fix it

[Q] Simcard Required to Connect to PC?

Anyone know if a simcard is necessary to connect the S2 to a computer? I haven't been able to connect to the pc, and yes I've installed the drivers. I'm waiting for a replacement screen that I'm going to install, but wanted to play with the phone before I take the simcard from my fiancee's old phone. I don't think she'd appreciate having to use a phone with a cracked screen for another week just so I can play with it =)
Edit: Whoops, should've posted this in the Q&A forum. If a dev could move it for me, that'd be wonderful. I'm not used to having a separate Q&A forum. With my Revo we only have a general section =(.

The answer is no. Lol. Sim card is only needed due radio operations.

Yeah, I didn't think so. I was reading something that suggested that the sim card is the problem, but it seemed a little bit weird to me. The other two fixes i can think of are that i actually need to buy an official samsung charger (although I'm not sure why an lg charger would charge the phone but not allow me to connect to my pc), or the USB port is bad. The Guy i bought it from mentioned that it would only charge if you held it in the right spot, but i haven't had that problem. luckily the USB port isonly 7 bucks with expedited shipping

Well if the port is bad, I'm going to place my money on that being the reason why it's not connecting.

[Q] How to find T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 is refurbished

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 from T-Mobile. I got a problem with that it switched off automatically and did not turned on. When I took that to store, they removed the back case, removed the battery and put it back. It started to work fine. But they processed an exchange.
I received a exchange device without back case and battery. They wanted me to use the back case and battery from old device and send back the old device.
I am not sure if it is a refurbished device or not. how to find it out? I tried with #RTN# and LaunchPro methods. nothing worked out.
Appreciate the help..
Thanks
JK

Not necessarily, if there havent been enough returns to be refurbished yet, because its only been out a short time, they will send out new ones in plain packaging.
I asked the customer care and asked if it is a refurbished one. They told it is a brand new one. As long as it does not cause any problem, I am fine. But it is nice to find if it is refurbished or not.
And also, since they did not send the battery, I cannot move the data, contacts and files from old phone to new phone.
Is there any way to take backup of my old phone to computer like we do for iPhone?

Er, turn old phone on with battery, plug it into a USB port. Any powered USB port. Leaving it plugged in, remove the battery. Phone will stay on. Turn new phone on. there, you got two 'on' phones.
I'd use Titanium Backup to get all data from old one to new one, personally. but I'm sure there's other methods out there. :good:

Refurb units have a tendency to crap out early and have issues. I have had two refurb phones, a RAZR and an HTC windows phone.
The battery sucks on the RAZR, worse than it should. It overheats frequently and I used to get screen temperature warnings while watching a video or playing a game.
The HTC's screen never did work quite right, and then it started making phantom calls after a couple of months.
I've heard almost every refurb unit has some sort of issue.
And, besides, if you had just bought a $700 phone, wouldn't you want a new one to replace the one you just bought,.
Did you bother to read terms? Clearly states keep your cover and battery. T-mobile has always done this...nothing new.
And as stated, if you can't tell what's the difference?

Bunk. Depends on who's doing the refurbishing. I've had many refurb electronics and they've worked at least as well as new ones. If it's a refurb from a manufacturer then it's gone through another round of QA testing and is likely to have a lower failure rate overall than new units.
As I said, if you can't tell the difference then it doesn't matter. If it's obviously used then that's another matter.

It greatly depends on what brand the device is. For example most of my home electronics are refurbished since they cost half the price. My wife's iPod is refurbished and I couldn't tell the difference if you put an gun to my head.
But an HTC phone on the other hand? Never again would I accept a refurbished HTC device. I had a MyTouch4G go bad and need to be replaced. T Mobile sent me a refurbished one. That broke. New refurbished one. Broken out of the box. Another refurbished one, bad screen. Another refurbished one, the camera wasn't physically installed. Then they gave me a brand new Sensation because of the trouble. It was a nightmare because HTC does a crappy job of returning their stuff.
It also depends on why the unit is refurbished. If you return a phone they can't sell it as new, even if nothing is wrong with it. So they check it out and make sure its all working then they call it refurbished. That phone is probably fine. But if its a warrant replacement because something is broken, the manufacturer might do a crappy job of fixing it. You don't want that one.
But all refurbs go in the same pile so there is no way to know if you got a return or a formally broken one.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

I think you replied to the wrong thread.
But...wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the new kernel.
Then reboot. That's all you need to do.
O sorry thanks a bunch though

[Q] Touchscreen works most of the time...

Hello everyone.
I recently bought a sgs3 t999l t mobile version with lte capabilities and right away it has 2 noticeable problems. I do not hava a bill nor insurance, so I am going to try to fix it myself. When I first got the phone, the touch screen wouldn't work properly. When I turn the screen off and awake it the touchscreen works again every time. I asked a few repair shops and even samsung themselves but no one really knows the solution. One person said that the digitizer may be going bad. Another person said there may be a bad connection with the touchscreen.. Most of them told me to just replace either the glass or the digitizer and find out but I do not have money to waste. I believe that someone before me may have flashed custom roms and may have damaged it a little because when I first obtained the phone, software update was unavailable due to modifying the phone or something like that. When I checked again a few days later, I was able to update.
My second problem is that my screen cracked straight across the earpiece a couple of days after I bought it and one day before my lifeproof case arrived. I put it in the case and the crack multiplied by 7. My explanation is that the company I bought it from replaced the glass with a cheap non samsung version of the glass. Does anyone have any ideas about what to replace and how?

Samsung will still honor warranty sometimes based on your IMEI. They do have ways to track in Carrier's database. Just give it a try.
If you really have to do on your own, you are looking to replace Digitizer & / or LCD.
I talked to samsung and they told me a cracked screen voids the warranty..
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda app-developers app
Then your recourse is to replace Digitizer and LCD. Others have tried replacing just the LCD but had limited success. Depends on your soldering skills I guess.
Watch the disassembly vids, for one thing, you dont want to attempt to do just one or the other, another is I dont think you can buy them separately.
Hint: if you do go this route, make sure you buy an assembly that comes already attached to the housing. This will save you a huge headache!

If its connected to a motherboard, do I get a different imei number and possible blacklist from t mobile? Isn't that all connected?
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda app-developers app
If its got its own motherboard, yes itll have its own imei. But itll only be blacklisted if it were stolen or reported lost. If you still have yours you can always swap them out. Its very easy to do.

You have been very helpful. How do I thank you using the xda app? One more thing. Will a screen &/or digitizer from t999 version work and fit on my t999l?

[Q] replacement motherboard

So a couple months ago my mini USB port broke off and I was not experienced enough in soldering to repair it so it's trash.
So now I bought a new tablet but I still kinda want to fix it so I was wondering if anyone here knows where to get a replacement. I have tried asking Amazon with no luck and I found one on eBay for $40 but I want to know if there is a cheaper option anyone knows of.

If you are using a custom ROM and don't need to register the KF with Amazon, check out http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Kindl...-REGISTER----Good-Micro-USB-Port-p-27164.html
Or, if you can wait for me to find out if my KF is fixable, and it turns out it isn't fixable, I could send you the one I purchased.
Cheers

Sprint Note 4 wont charge although shows charging icon.

Hi,
My Note 4 will no longer charge although it shows the charging icon when plugged in. No fast charge either.
Tried all the usual trouble shooting tricks.
Different batteries , charges and cleaning out the port...
Am pretty sure a hard reset wont fix this... seems like hardware.
Anybody had this problem with a fix?
Self repair or something of the sort. Dont want to spend money on repairs when the note 8 is due out Aug 23rd.
Am currently externally charging the batteries... which is a pain.
Had to clean the contacts at the battery. Don't know if that's the fix for you but, it worked here. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply...
tried that... no joy.
have several batteries, no difference.
what bites even more is that i bought the phone seller refurb off ebay along with a square trade warranty. didnt realise it was listed as new on ebay, so square trade wont do anything until a year is up claiming it should be under manufacturer warranty... so have to wait till October before square trade will allow a claim.... *sheesh*

Sorry to hear that. Amazon here, battery that came with was iffy at best but the phone has been flawless. Might be the port I know amazon sells a charging back pretty cheap. Works great here.

yeah, im guessing hardware failure.
this is my second note 4, the 1st went into a bootloop...
im currently managing using an external battery charger and rotating my battery packs.
will send in for square trade warranty once the note 8 is released on sprint.
i've tried just about everything i have gleaned on the internet,,, and no joy.
heres an odd thing, my first note would occasionally get into the bootloader and it shows dm verity failed. it was bought new from sprint and i never messed with it. was stock. no rooting etc... but after a couple of minutes it would hang and start boot looping again even while in bootloader. go figure.
