Making calls while roaming? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Does anyone else have issues where you can not make calls while roaming?
When I am roaming, 90% of the time I will get a recording saying, to make a collect call to a landline press 1, blah blah blah.
It doesn't do it all of the time but a large majority of it if I'm roaming.
I have roam enabled on the phone, I'm stock but rooted and using standard stock PRL.
Am I missing something?

What does your PRL say, per chance? And are you on Sprint or Boost?

I would say that in this community, you're not going to find a lot of people on stock rooted GB.
I can try Monday to recreate your issue as my commute is lengthy and 90% roaming. But even then, cellular providers, system and equipment differences... Really would make for a valid test.
Really sounds like a system or an esn issue.
Have you talked with Sprint about it?

you should try switching prl's and see if that helps, I use the 11115 prl + roam control to flip from verizon to sprint works good !!!!

good question, i would like to know the answer too
I would love to answer your question for you, but unfortunately I am stumped on how to answer a blank question
Yes you can, but you have to be rooted in order to flash it.
Sorry i had the question it just never posted .... What's the current prl in so. Flo......I'm on 01119 ..and have run in to roaming triangle in certain areas ...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If you are roaming, a newer prl wont help you. PRL only tells your phone what towers to roam on. It does not tell your phone what sprint towers to connect to, it just automatically connects to all sprint towers. If you dont have sprint service, then a prl update wont help you, you need to call sprint and see if there is an outage in your area.
I'm.on boost .. I had 01115 and changed to 01119
I heard u CAN try business class prl 01114

prl 00001 and sprint airwave

I just recently recieved my airwave and noticed that if im running on prl 00001 the bars are constantly jumping from full to two and sometimes none. Even if I have full bars the data still runs slow. If I update my prl it goes into full bars and data runs properly but prl 00001 gets me better service with no dropped calls while on the go. What shoukd I do?
You have have full bars but you can be on 1x
Most custom roms tell you if your on 3g or 1x
Also you can use the speed test app and it'll tell you on what you are on
And I'm not to sure on this but I don't think air wave does data

If you are on 00001, you likely are not connecting to the airave since that is looked at as a Sprint tower.
My cousin has an airave, and it seems to do data as well.

I have SENSATIONS and its WICKED!!
I dialed *99 and it said I am connected to it but the voice was very choppy you coukd hardly hear but I do get service throughout the house now just twwo to three bars not full bars like I would get if I was on a regular prl

a different prl means using specific antennas that spring doesn't want you to use. you can already use your phone abroad through your gsm radio. I wouldn't recommend changing prl unless you want to piss off sprint. they will see you costing them Verizon bytes and either cancel your contact, sue you, or put a hit out on you; most likely they will do the first two thought.
there is a benefit to UPDATING your prl this is a setting in your menus and it could help with speed or signal but if you are having to do this too much I would call sprint to yell at their local capacity issues

Guess what sprint just did...

They pushed a PRL auto update to my phone... Now I am not roaming anymore. They did this shortly after hitting 5GB for this pay period.
Screw you sprint. I'm putting it back. I have been roaming for a few months now and racking up a ton of data. They have not contacted me about it at all.
So if you guys are force roaming your phones, be it to have them kick you or just because, check your PRLs.
Off-network Roaming: The primary use of your Device must be for domestic purposes within the Sprint-owned network. Domestic means use in the 50 United States and U.S. Territories (except Guam). Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. The display on your device may not always be on and will not indicate whether you will incur roaming charges. You can monitor usage online through My Account. Roaming is not available with single-band phones, or to customers who reside or whose primary use is outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may limit or terminate service if you move outside of the Sprint owned-network.
Not saying it's right. Just saying it's what you agreed to when you signed that dotted line. Read your terms closer and you will be less surprised. This is why it can be worth it to pay a little more for a better network with better roaming terms.

I'm not surprised, really I am actually wanting them to terminate me.

If you really want to get terminated, use one of these PRL's...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
FLynn, the prls you referenced appear to all be Sprint PRL's. 00002 PRL is an always roaming PRL. Even when you're not "technically" roaming. You are. 100% all the time on the Verizon network. If you're shopping for a termination letter....I can't think of a better way to get one.
The PRL I use is also always roaming as well.

Here you go. What happen today on my phone by sprint, all the sudden my phone pop up with android on screen and Downloading
It says " don't turn off device on target".
I don't know on the last written On Target??. Immediately I pull off battery then back to normal.
Just may be I thought like yours, because I use roaming all time this month around 6GB.. Either sprint to push pro update or something else.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Nope. Not what happened to mine. That is a regular download mode. However. Check your device info. I have a hunch. Does it say 4.2? Only if you are on TW based ROM.
I discovered this when my device displayed a triangle next to my signal bars after a call. I put the device in airplane mode then back. Thought all was well until I couldn't load any Web based apps. Went and checked my PRL and it had been force updated.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Ya my device is 4.2 and my prl 00001 roaming all this pay period. I received my bill, 3G data usage 0 and G data roaming usage 5,780,076kb

Sounds like it could be network vision. I'm a tech for sprint and there have been lots of customers in my area that can't receive phone calls. Flash the return to stock Rom and if it is still doing it then take it to a service center. If they determine it's a network issue then you're SOL.

I started resending out 55015 PRL to people I end up taking escalations from because there phones used to work and then they stopped and 90% of the time its because of a SMR change on there local towers voice/1x service. That 800 is nice when your able yo properly connect.

Yes I work for sprint. And the bad thing is. I can update anyone's PRL but it will change back on the next scheduled network sync. So I have a list of PTNs I have to check weekly to verify if they rolled back to 20000 or 20001.

So what would you recommend as the best course of action? Staying on 55015 unless you notice you aren't receiving calls sometimes? Come to think of it I think I did get a voicemail once without the phone ringing... but other than that once, it seems like 55015 has been better than 2000, at least in terms of holding a data signal.
Depends on your area and your service. If 20000 doesn't work and 55015 does, then stick with it. As for calls rolling directly to VM and your phone isn't broke lol, it more then likely is a hickup in the network. You should see some of the network Trams I see on my end.

So I noticed you work for Sprint. I'm running a custom prl on my note 2 that prioritizes 800 smr. Most of the time I fail to connect, but not always. I am an active member at s4gru.com, a Sprint forum, and many people with note 2's are experiencing the same connection problems with smr. My wisdom for you is if Sprint, internally, has diagnosed the problem with the note 2's and 800 smr. Obviously Sprint knows something is up or they wouldn't have pushed the 2000 prl.

The reason I push out non standard PRLs are for instances were I have a customer who is not getting service at all or is getting extremely poor voice service. As for s4gru.com, that is not a sprint affiliated web site. It is a community blog that is not moderated nor updated by sprint. It is true that some N2 users in specific markets experience issues with 800 SMR bands enabled but I personally have not had an issue with it.

L900VPAMC2 Stock Rooted with a DPI change. But I have been running 55015 the entire time even before I rooted. Erickson has been working on the issue for some time but driver updates for the Note 2 are needed for the patch to work and as far as I can tell Sammy hasn't done that yet.
But for most people I deal with, having to power cycle your phone occasionally is a hell of a lot better then no service at all.
