you wanna know what i think.... no. just like my gfs captivate its got a lot under the hood but as far as customization goes its lame. HTC phones always seem to have more devs working on them. thats unfortunate that you have so many problems i feel like its a solid phone havent had any problems. i tell you what i got a hero in great shape no dust or anything just send me your dusty evo first

I'm also curious....As much as I love my Evo, I cannot get used to not having a physical keyboard. I have used the stock one, and also used fresh and Cyanogenmod. I have the HTC_IME special keyboard and just can't get used to it. I have noticed that the gingerbread one seems to be a lot easier to type on....I just can't seem to find on how to download it along with installing it. But people who have the Samsung Epic 4G I'm curious what everyone thinks about it.
my girlfriend also has an epic its nothing special with the dev work going on there. If you get an epic expect to have a very stock experience and the gps is rather finkey on that phone
Please do!!!!!
I came frome an epic.
Shotty build quality
Gps rarely worked right
Has the physical keyboard but would miss letters all the time.(button was hit but it wouldn't register.
Screen is nice but not big enough for me.
Always alot of wobble from the screen and the keyboard.
I kept mine for 4 months. I loved the screen but the issues it had and a lack dev support compared to the evo made me switch.
Love the evo, im used to the onscreen keyboard and I like it alot better.
Choice is yours.

ROFLMAO! I read Sultan.of.swing's response, and I was like "damn, I don't remember responding in this thread". Then I realized it wasn't me. I was in exactly the same boat. Just traded my Epic for an Evo, and couldn't be happier. GPS never worked. Keyboard just felt janky, and made the phone feel so unstable and wobbly. I LOVED the screen on the Epic, but that was about it. Every time I hit the power key, it felt like it was gonna slip out of my hand or fall apart or something. And the fact that it STILL doesn't have official Froyo is just sad. I highly doubt I'll ever buy another Samsung phone. I've had so few problems with my two HTC phones (Nexus One and Evo), that they really made the Epic feel like a toy. That's the best description I can give of the Epic. Yeah, it may have better specs overall, but it seriously feels like a damn toy.
what should I/do I need to know about the GS2? pros and cons please
I really love my Epic, but I know I'm going to miss my QWERTY
this will be my first full touch-screen phone so I'm a little weary
how do you guys like your GS2's?

I've had mine for about a week now (came from and EVO) I have no complaints whats so ever........... Your mileage may vary.......
Its a good device coming from the Evo. Its has a few issues like the Loss of service, but I did experience that until I rooted the device so I dont blame it on the phone.
The one problem that I do have is that it wont play most games for more than 10 to 15 minutes. But I use it for reading more than anything else and sprint and samsung are suppose to be releasing a patch next month.
I would say stop calling it the SGS2 (which, I know, it is) and get used to ET4G. If for nothing else than to know that if something is labeled SGS2 that you should. not. flash. it.
As far as QWERTY goes? Pffft. I was so worried when I got my Evo that I was going to miss QWERTY. I didn't have the Hero long enough to get used to it, then I got the Moment and got used to it (that keyboard sucked anway)....but the transition took, oh, a week or two. That was a year and a half ago and I've never regretted ditching the real keyboard. There are hundreds of 'em. Find one you like. I go back and forth between Swype and SwiftkeyX and can haul major ass on both....especially Swype. SwiftKeyX is totally worth whatever it costs. If you let it read your texts, emails and Facebook posts it's prediction is simply amazing. You barely even have to try being precise.
This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

I got it last Tuesday and love the phone and size. Im using the "Go Launcher" and LOVE IT, amazing how easily it is to make your beautiful looking and functional. The only problem Im having is LOS. And battery life is not that good either but , what can you expect from a dual Core phone with a big ass screen. You can tweak it with SetCpu. But Im still trying to find the best configuration so i can have a optimal battery life.
But i must say the phone is amazing and also it also lets you uninstall a lot of the preloaded apps without rooting, something other phones and carriers wont permit.
I am also getting this phone... just ordered it tonight.. should be here no later than Wed!
I'll be switching from the Moment and lack of a physical keyboard was also something I was wondering about. Hence why I sub'd to this thread.. I wanna see what y'all have to say.

If you are coming from the Moment you will love this device. I had the moment for 6 months but I had to get rid of it because I hated it. I went to the and loved that until my charger port broke. Got this as a replacement. This is better than the Evo, considering the screen is excellent. Also it is so much lighter and thinner than the Evo and Touchwiz is not as bad as people make it out to be.
The only problem with it that I have had is the sound bug which causes some games to just quit.

Here's a little devil's advocate.
I bought the ET4G on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist for an attractive price. After using it for a week, it's going back on Craigslist and I am using my OG Epic again w/ the new Gingerbread release (and physical keyboard fixes!).
While the ET4G certainly offers a snappier Android experience and a better camera than the OG Epic, I didn't find the boost in speed or extra screen real estate to be worth the $325 I paid for the device. I think the only speed boost worth writing home about was the speed of the ET4G's stock browser. Lastly, the audio quality of SGSII is inferior to SGSI and in all honesty not worthy of a high end smartphone - this was the deal breaker for me.
Considering that you already have the OG Epic, I'd wait until the middle of next year so you can get a killer future-proof 720p LTE phone at a fully discounted price. All that said, the ET4G is still a great device!

That's one reason I haven't taken the plunge (though I tried once, and the guy at the store said he couldn't mess with my plan). When I played with it at the store, it wouldn't rotate. Meanwhile, some of the apps (especially the camera app) would go landscape and not go back. Anyone else have that problem?

Is it your Fav phone?
mine by far
Tell us why its your favorite or why its not
I don't mean any offense by this, but I think this Thread does not really belong in the Q&A section.
While it is a question if all of us think, whether this is the most awesome phone since the invention of cans and a string, it is not one that can be definitively answered.
So this would belong in the general section. This section - as I understand it - is for folks who have trouble with their device and seek advice or help.
actually it was meant for "Off-Topic" i do not know how it ended here =0
Not my FAVOURITE phone ever, simply because I waited so long for it and then it came with so many issues (for me). Dodgy loose z-hinge which causes the two halves of the phone not to stay tight shut (mine is still buffered with layers of electrical tape in between to stop the annoying tapping when one half hits the other when typing on the screen), poor screen in sunlight, really poor speaker, 4 row keyboard instead of 5. These are the things that made me unhappy when I got it, but with little else to choose from (Android qwerty-wise) I had little option but to get used to it.
I think my favourite phone ever has to be my G1, simply because it was on a completely different level to what I had been using previously (Nokia smartphones like the N85 and N73). Yeah, sure it didn't really have the hardware needed (especially towards the end of it's life) but I LOVED that phone like a child :-D
The G2/DZ is a pretty decent phone, but was not groundbreaking in any way, shape or form. The development scene for it is just as good as I remember the G1's being, which is a plus - and ultimately that, and the fact there are still no better qwertys in the UK, is the only reason I'm still using this thing.
I love it because I got in love with it in March, and wanted to get it with a budget of just 250€ euros... No used ones weren't fake, so I got a Nexus One, great phone, and I decided to keep it thinking it was better of my beloved DZ, than in August Desire Z was 240€ new and sold my nexus one to get it. Now I love it, every single thing but the back cover which is already damaged. I like HTC assistance: they sent me a courier (is it right?) beacause I lived 20km far from the collection point and then in one working week I had it back repaired... (now on the other side they're asking me to go to the colelction point to get a new usb cable, which is 10€ and I should take 10 euros of train to get there..).
But as for the phone itself it just lacks a better GPU and a bit more of battery... Oh yes, it should be at least two metres thicker and five tons lighter
but I love it!

When I look at all the new phones without hard keys or trackpads, I don't know what I'll find to replace my G2. I just have to get a handle on my battery drain issues then I can get another two years from it. I still miss the g1 keyboard sometimes, but the g2 is better in so many ways.

great phones =)
Its actually the only phone I loved that hasnt broken on me yet had it for almost a full year now and it still runs great. Dropped it plenty of times on the ground and it only has a few scratches & dents. Z-hinges aren't really bothersome and really isnt that loose, it makes the phone fun to flip and play around with actually! I really cant see a new phone w/o a qwerty board. Lets hope we get to see at least some this year.
I honestly dont know if there is another phone out there for me to update to! So I see myself with the g2 for a looooong time! And I would have never updated to it if it wasnt for the H+ speeds!
G1 in honesty has the best hand placement/keyboard feel!
Another plus was it was Black too!!
Have had it for more than a year and was my first smart phone. For me the only other device that competes is mytouch 4g slide simply because I can't live without keyboard but imo this has a far better look and feel than the 4g

It's my favorite phone, but it only became so after rooting it. IMO Sense is a bulky solution for dummy proofing a phone. When I rooted and got rid of the bloat I started loving it more and more.
I had a Desire before I went to the G2. I had to find out the expensive way that a touchscreen only phone just doesn't work for me
I had the g1 before this, and a few sidekicks before that. I've been hooked on keyboard phones since around 2006. Being a t-mobile customer, I am bound to what they provide so physical keyboards have become somewhat of a necessary thing for me when shopping for a phone. The g2 came as quite a surprise really. It's nearly 2 years old now and with a little tweaking, it's still preforming as well as a lot of todays (stock) high end devices. Bravo htc.
I'm looking forward to future physical keyboard devices.
This phone sure is a great product.
Nice collection of roms to choose from, and gotta love the keyboard.
First phone with physical QWERTY to me, and I won't buy a phone without it again.
This does need some tweaking (custom rom & overclocking) to be fast enough for daily use - but it's very easy thing to do.
This is my second Android-phone.
I need someone who is not an unboxer or professional to review this phone. I am planning to sell my GS3 to get this phone because my upgrade isn't mature till 8 more freaken month. I have went to sprint store to playing around with the phone but people said to judge by the display model due to magnet issue.
Honestly?
I'm a phone guy.
I tried it all. From htc evo, to evo 3d, to galaxy epic og, to epic touch s2 to galaxy.s3, etc etc.
And I also own my own cell phone business.
With that being said, personally, to me, all androids are alike.
I know there can be many arguments with my statement, with core speeds, etc etc etc, but we are all on xda site anyway, so we are probably all rooters and flashaholics.
The ONLY difference, again in my opinion, are screen size on devices. That differentiates the devices and performance of the the phone.
Now for the review? I liked the s2 epic touch, I owned it since launch day, then I went to the s3 about 3 weeks after launch.
The s2 to s3 conversion, to me, was not a big upgrade. Sure it was a bugger screen estate, but not much for me to jump ship. I wanted a bigger screen.
With that, I resold the s3 and went back to the s2. And now I'm on my note 2.
I'm not a professional reviewer or any of that sort. I just know cell phones. It's what I do for a living. And personally, with every android device, I titanium backup my preference and settings back to my desired look between phones, so I'm probably not the best reviewer out there.
If you want a big screen, this phone is for you. But be aware that it's VERY CHALLENGING to text with one hand, or give a quick reply when driving on the road. That's my only gripe.
Gps locks are fast, reception is great. But all those were already fixed with the s3 so it's probably the same in comparison.
I don't find myself using the s-pen much.
As far as usability, I use my phone alot. I have 6 emails pushed through k9 mail, and use about 13,000 text messages monthly. So yeah I would consider myself a heavy phone user.
In the end, buy it if you want a big screen. But if you are okay with the s3 screen size, to me, save your money.
Those are just my thoughts. Of course you will be getting bias reviews on this dedicated note 2 forum.. So be aware of that.
S3 is still in my opinion, a very nice phone. Fast as he'll and fast radio locks
I'm a big guy. 6 foot 4 240 pounds . I hate carrying around small phones. I wanted the iphone and its just to small for me. I got the note 2. I love it ! And jelly bean is great. This is the phone I have been waiting for , for a while.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Best phone ever made so far IMO. I'm not big about using the S Pen... mostly a novelty for me. I was huge flasher on evo and the S2 but this phone feels like everything just came together.
Yes, one handed use is slightly awkward and might want to be careful with in case of a drop but hey, no one needs to be texting on the road anyways! I'm a pilot so I'm constantly pulling my luggage through the airport and need to glance at my phone to check a gate or something one handed... its OK for that, but any extensive texting would be difficult. Really this is my only concern... dropping the phone.
Spec wise, the phone is cutting edge. Its snappy and its a dream. So like the other guys said, it really comes down to screen size. I love big screens and I cannot lie... I'm willing to sacrifice a little mobility for that any day!

I loved my GS3 and I sold mine to get the note 2. I am not a professional or an unboxer. The note 2 is pretty much just like the GS3 but bigger and has a stylus. My stylus is a little bit sensitive, i need to turn it down as soon as I figure out how to get the button cover off. I play draw something everyday. On my GS3 it was really glitchy. On the note 2 its not as glitchy. There are a few extra features like being able to set the keyboard to the right or to the left to help with one handed usability. The battery lasts an awful long time! I had an extended battery on my GS3 but I dont need one for my note 2. I love it! I hated being without my GS3 after I sold it, but the note 2 is worth it!
And also don't forget that the battery life on this phone is absolutely phenomenal
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
There is a1 handed option in setting s that sets your keyboard and dialer to the right or left side of the phone for easier one handed texting. It's an awesome feature for such a big phone...beyond that i had the moment, then the epic, then the e4gt, skipped the s3 because of the announcement of this phone and no disappointment. It's awesome

I need the s pen to take note in class. The size is a bonus.

I love it! I hated being without my GS3 after I sold it, but the note 2 is worth it!

yikes! for 8 months? my brothers upgrade was due in may but contract up in july. he only had to pay 100. I sold my GS3 on ebay for 430. It was rooted and had cases and extended batteries. I sold it as soon as I heard the note 2 was coming. Plus mine was only a month old. It sure helped for covering the cost.
I just picked up my note 2 from evo3d last night. Once I got home I felt a HUGE disappoint from leaving my 3d woth cm10 coming to touchwiz and how BIG everything is. Day two, im a little more at ease after some sleep.
My biggest issue is just how huge everything is. I know once I root it and change dpi down it may look more normal for me. Im used to using a small font with and small font settings.
However my biggest hurdle is how unstable this thing feels in one hand. I constsntly feel like I may drop it because the only way to truley be able to use one hand and access everything is to rest the phone on your four fingers while using your thumb to navigate. Versus having end of your other fingers having a sturdy hold on left side of phone like normal.
Using the one-handed option does help for typing and such, but its mainly not being able to reach notification bar while having the firm grip versus resting on four fingers.
Having a inner struggle weather I want to keep this or go exchange for the gs3 later today or tomorrow. I use my phone with one hand a lot so thats a huge issue for me.
Has anyone else gone thru this while switching too the note2? If so how long does it take for that too go away.
Also im curious as to what kind of stylus support aosp roms will have. I know it will work for touching the screen but I mean as far as default samsung note apps and such? I know I will be going back to cm10 on this or the gs3. But if we will lose a lot of stylus support then I dont reslly see a need for the note over the gs3 with only .7 inches of extra screen real estate.
Any input would be great! Thanks

So why didn't you go into a store and play with it BEFORE dropping all that coinage, getting home and then complaining about it afterwards? It's not as if you didn't have that as an option.
I went to a store today and spent some time with it. Currently have an S3 that i love. I would have no problem using a Note 2 as my primary device but i don't think i would want something that big ALL the time, hence i would prefer the S3.

Well I did play with it. The disappointment was short and mainly just like with going from anything you know well and are used to, to something new and unfamiliar. Once its rooted and I can change DPI that will resolve the elderly resolution issue.
AS I've actually had a full day to play with it I love it. Homestly the only issue I somewhat have is the unstable feeling while handling with one hand making long stretches with my thumb. Im sure after awhile longer, that too will pass.
Just ready to be on good ole cm10 again.
And as far as toying with it. I did, but you arent able to get a full accurate grasp on any of the phones with the bulky security piece glued too the back with the strecthy cord.

I feel you then. I have big hands and can balance the Note 2 fairly well in one hand.
On my S3 I have a nandroid of BlackBean 6 JellyBean (AOKP) that i was running for a while but i'll have to say that the new TWiz is very nice. I like the subtle changes to the UI systemwide. Currently running FreeGS3 JellyBean (Twiz ROM) and it's fantastic. Never expected a Twiz ROM to draw me away from AOKP.
Right now, any phone feels small to me.
Honestly, I can even go a BIT BIGGER than the note 2
Not wider, but longer.
You just get used to it.
Have you tried a different launcher? I too came from the evo 3d and now laugh quietly when I look at my wife's original evo. I use nova prime and cannot say enough about it. And go get yourself a case. I bought the Samsung case in the acces forum and got it today, not too much bulk and I can now sleep at night.

Just to address the size issue, I remember when I got my Evo 4G, thinking it was pretty nice but maybe too big. It took about a day to get over that. I always miss my previous phone for a day or two, but new phones always provide the benefit of new technology. I had the first Note version in blue and now got the Note II in white. At first I thought it was way too bright, but in a day loved it better than the first. I didn't think I would like the slightly narrower version, but find it fits better in my hand, and again, like the new technology. I am giving you my personal guarantee if you use it for a week, you will not go back. And you can fiddle with it, and eventually you will get cm10 or something newer. It's great.
I did the same exact thing. Except I first grabbed an sgs3. I love the note 2. It's never felt too large for me. I do have big hands but even so one handed text entry is suffering. I find swype style keyboards work best. As soon as SwiftKey releases their new beta ill switch to that. I enjoy SwiftKey for most entry but a split keyboard is a must in landscape. At this point I have 7 imes loaded so I clearly haven't found the perfect set yet. Stick with it, the note is hard to beat in all categories right now.

Just wanted to thank all of ypu above for the encouragement to stick with it. After finding out the phone couldn't take pictures while on phone and the lack of SVDO and only SVLTE (which isn't in my area until beginning of next year) I was dead set on returning it.
I think got a helpful tip that the camera can be fixed thru a small false to true value chane in the features xml.
I went to my cousins to toy with his gs3 and let him play with this before returning it. (Also note that talking to him on phone yesterday he said he didnt think he could manage anything bigger than his gs3)
Turns out the moment he saw it he started drooling over it. He wants one now! Needless to say I second guessed returning it just because of the lack of SVDO. So I guess I will be keeping it because im definitely starting to love this thing more and more.
So thanks again to everyone who said hang in there. Cant wait top see how this community is compared to the evo and evo3d community with the constant drama and disrespect towards devs.

If this phone can do SVDO, it would be the shizzn
... And to me, will be the perfect phone (for now)
get a flygrip for onehanded use. doubles as a kick stand in portrait and landscape
