what is "recovery" ?
Recovery mode is a minimal, alternative mode of booting which allows you to install software from zip files, backup/restore your device, and perform low-level operations like factory reset and formatting partitions. All Android devices have a recovery mode (it's part of the stock AOSP environment), but the default recovery mode is very limited. For example, it only allows you to flash zips which have been signed by the vendor's private key.
ClockworkMod Recovery was developed by Koushik Dutta (@koush), and is much more flexible... If you want to flash CyanogenMod, you MUST have a non-stock recovery. Right now that means ClockworkMod Recovery.

How to install:
just flash the recovery zip
Changelog:

amon ra 2.2.1 is old and this is new and compiled from ics branch, and why you need to reformat your sdcard partition, after flash recovery it will not delete your any sdcard partition and from wiki ext4 is

can't get into 2.5 is stuck on bootscreen.. Running defrost 2.0f recovery doesn't work in unrevoked and not trew rommanager..
Just flashed using Unrevocked 3 and got stuck at the white HTC screen.
Left it for 5, pulled the battery and tried to enter recovery. The same again.
Pulled, rebooted to the OS and re-flashed the new Unrevoked without the custom image and I now have access to recovery 2.0.2.4.

All though I am not currently using 1.8a... Hell of a job on this. It is about time we have some harmony between the EVER SO POPULAR NAND and the EVER SO PRACTICAL Clockworkmod Recovery.
Kudos!!! I like it.

Thank you, I also like this method.
But you have a problem: You are now responsible for transforming all versions of m-deejay's.
Thanks again.
Just to get it straight. It means that when you reboot to recovery using the shutdown menu in android, it will go to recovery instead of rebooting the system? Just like a regular cyanogen rom?
Or is it that you created a recovery rom?

Waiting for it.
I think we should have a dedicated thread for zip builds requests, since most of the time users are packing them instead of the developpers and the links get lost in the middle of hundreds of pages.
A thread should be created, held by a user regrouping zip builds for each developper in first post, decently classified, so that anyone can take what he wants without browsing or searching over 2000 pages...
this is not a zip rom its a nand one that has the recovery built in with it

it's easy making a zip file for CWM (there are steps on doing so), the hard part is posting the work of others. this is what kills all the good chefs.... sorry just my 2 cents
ya i dont want any credit for this it was RaiderX303 for recovery and m-deejay for the best rom ever

Hey sorry for the noobish question. But the "move to sd folder" that contains the image, is that the same as in ClockworkMod Recovery version 1.1? Or is there a reason why I should use this specific one.
Once again apologies The clockwork stuff is all new to me.
Good news, Amon Ra just announced today on twitter that he will begin to create a HD2 recovery tomorrow.

Good idea, I hope you can stand the pace of mdeejay, and people do not spend too much time hanging.... (kiding).
But anyway, the MDJ gingerbread is already very stable, so the pace of Mdeejay upgrades will be now more calm, and you will take the pressure for surely.
Thanks for this source of CWM updates.
Thanks! I was begging to think that everyone preferred NAND over CWM. It just make CWM makes life so much easier. Plus I'm use to using CW. I don't fully understand why doesn't MDJ release it in this form to begin with but hey I'm happy either way.
Thanks goes out to everyone who made this possible.

Thank you so much~! Let me see if it works.
Happy new year all!
Been running rooted stock for a few months now, pretty happy with it despite rosie restarts so I might take the plunge and install virtuous sense 2.0.0.
When I rooted my phone, I used rom manager to install clockworkmod recovery, however I used the latest version at that time which was 5.0.2.7.
My question is, I read that version 5 can be a bit flakey with recoveries, should I install CWM 3.0.2.4 instead as it appears to be the recommended one?
If yes, how does it work with installing another recovery, will it overwrite 5.0.2.7 or will it leave me with two recoveries?
Nothing wrong with 5.0.2.7

Good stuff, just wanted to check that.
Instead of ClockworkMod, I would recommend 4EXT Recovery. It has a touch-based interface, unlike CWM. It also has better support for different filesystems in backups.

Much easier to use, much more options (like recover deleted files).
You could install ROM Manager from Android Market and then install new version from this SW.

Go to 4ext.net and install the free 4EXT Recovery Updater application to your phone. Choose the topmost option, make sure you're in the Touch tab, then tap the newest version to download and install it. It will automatically replace CWM, and it is fully supported in ROM Manager.
I'll throw in for 4EXT as well. Highly recommended.

Dualboot
Hi everyone
I have a Xiaomi M2s right now and the thing i like the most about the device is that it has 2 system partitions and that I can install MIUI on my first partition and CM11 on my second partition. This is ideal if you want to test a ROM but keep one stable system.
Is there any chance that there will be a way to re-partition the one plus to have this? Also CMW would need to have true dual boot right or is this a stock feature?
I don't know if partitioning is common on other devices?
The backups created appear to not have the correct dates for filenames. They start with 1970...
Is this a offical build? Will it be listened on clockworkmod.com anytime soon?
Does anybody have problems with mounting the SD card through CWM? On my device CWM wont backup because of not being able to mount the sd card. I solved this error by reflashing CWM through fastboot, but why does this error occur?

Seems that it happens on all recoveries ATM. Happened to me on TWRP. hopefully the developers can fix the source of the problem soon.
What ROM were you running when this happened? I'm trying to narrow down whether its a ROM or recovery issue...or both...

I'm on stock CM11S
I'm try to build a lot of rom but all of these bootloop or take a lot of time to start, or data partition unmount itself after a reboot.
No issue using PA version 20140708
So I think there is some issue in the last sources, otherwise if it was a problem of recovery also paranoid should have bootloop.
Now I'm trying to build PA with last sources
