Just 1gb? (I usually prefer 2gb for a lil more space than the phone would have given me)
Anywho yes.
1) Start from scratch by removing all partitions.
2) Choose 1024 for sd-ext
2) Skip for Swap and sd-ext2
3) choose ext4 as the filesystem
When done you can toggle usb storage from the main recovery menu again and copy back your SD card content onto the FAT32 side (it'll probably be the only mount that shows up on your computer anyways unless you're using linux).
Since you're using EliteMod (from the other thread) you can also choose to convert the existing filesystems from ext3 to ext4 by first checking to see which ones need to be converted by taping 'info' on the first screen and see which are ext3.
Then go into tools, and convert backup/etc -> ext4 , and select specifically the ones that need converting (in your case may be data and cache).
After conversion goto tools -> fix user permissions (not 'needed' but generally a good idea after converting a file system).
It would probably be a good idea to goto wipe|format and clear cache+dalvik before booting back into the rom (it'll see the sd-ext partition and start moving stuff automatically).
If it's all working and such, be sure to go back into recovery and make a backup.
PS: The paid version of 4EXT will let you configure the recovery further from the app, such as telling it not to backup dalvik-cache or cache when backing up (instead they will be formatted upon restore), as well as some other options like hide non-FAT32 partitions from the PC when mounting USB storage in recovery.

I followed your steps ... i wiped cache and dalvik and i flashed dataswap 64 mb and now i turned on phone and there is statement ANDROID IS UPRGADING ..starting applications ..and its loading and loading whats wrong ?

Wiping dalvik cache clears some application related data which is created when the app is installed. Doing this can sometimes resolve some issues.

Nothing is wrong, normal behavior after wiping the dalvik cache, it'll go thru and optimize all your applications and won't show that dialog again until either you wipe the dalvik cache again or a new application is installed without the automatic optimization. You should have seen a # or # incrementing as it was doing it (i.e.: in my case # of 155 applications).

partition SD card in Rom Manager

I'm not sure if this is the right place for it, so if not, plz move it
I want to partition my SD card via Rom Manager; however, after I press "Partition SD Card" and choose the size I want, it asks me if I'm sure that I want to reboot and continue. I press OK but nothing happens.
I guess there's something that I'm supposed to do that I'm not doing, any help?
thanks

are you rooted
yes, of course.
If you don't seem to see what causes the problem,
can someone plz explain an other way to partition the SD card?
thanks!
ahh dragon, i'm after a fix for this too. I think its because ROM Manager creates a Ext2 partition and Froyo needs Ext3 but don't quote me on that. I have a post open too asking for alternative things for this.
If you have a spare CD lying around I'd suggest Gparted. its an awesome Live CD bootable program that will do it easily.
I burned the iso to a CD, but I don't get how to start it :S
is your card formatted as fat32? i think this is required.

are you talking about gparted? its bootable, so reboot your pc and boot from the disk rather than the hdd

ClockworkMod also has the partitioning capability.. I'm trying to flash Amon ra at the moment but unrevoked is failing to push the image =/
also.. once its actually done. what options from the recovery console do i need to use?

I partitioned sd card from usb (pushed files from windows) recovery, before I flashed Amon Ra, but it should be as usual:
swap 0, ext 2 512 mb, rest fat 32, ext 2 to ext 3

[Q] EXT in wrong place on card

Hi,
When setting up my SD card the first time I put the EXT at the start (rather than at the end which is usually recommended). So far the rom's I've tried have been forgiving and I haven't had any issues because of it, but I'm looking at trying a few more and some state *specifically* that it needs to be at the end.
I've already tried just swapping the partitions around in gparted (I have enough empty space on card to do this with no loss of data) but the phone can no longer see the EXT after this...
I just want to check, if I were to do a titanium backup/sms backup & restore and wipe my card and set it up again from scratch including a fresh ROM flash - I shouldn't have any issues getting apps/settings back right? I presume that a nandroid recovery from before shifting the EXT won't work either :/
Thankyou in advance!
I'm still pretty new to all this but from what I understand you'd have to back up what data you can then repartition your card in the correct order and start again.

I strongly recommend you to use Magic partition manager ( no boot cd needed / no virtual machine needed )
- backup all your sdcard
- format all the sdcard
- create first partition Fat32
- create second partition ext 2/3/4 at the end of the card
( 1Gb max recommended and ext3 would be the best for performance/sdcard life _ written cycles )
You are done _ Hope it helps you

Just to post back, everything worked. Did backup and nandroid and copied anything I needed to pc. Used gparted to wipe old partitions and put them back correctly. Phone couldn't see ext at that point as predicted so just dis a fresh Rom flash and restored apps via mybackup, all went well.

[Q]EXT4 FS?

So I feel satisfied with Mimicry 1.5. So it is one more step for maximum performance: new file system.
I was searching for tut but there's too many results and I can't find anything, so I will post my dump questions here:
What is ext4? Is whole new FS on internal memory or extra partition on sdcard or both?
Will I need to reinstall rom?
Is ext4 console required or cwm will work too?
Can I restore nandroid backup over ext4?
Can i create ext4 partition on sdcard without reinstalling rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk 2
Mimicry supports ext4 and I highly recommend using it. The easiest way to check and see what file system you are using across the different partitions of your phone is with 4ext recovery. I have a guide to switch to 4ext recovery here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33058659
It's like the 4th post or so, you can do it other ways as well but it just makes sense having the better recovery anyway. You are getting a few things jumbled together, 4ext is a recovery. Ext4 is a files system used in linux that is faster than ext3 but has potential issues with the extra journaling. Just do a little googling to find more info.
You can partition your sdcard to include a ext partition, usually used to store apps, it can be better for some and can be slower for others depending on many things such as how many apps you have, speed of sdcard, etc. Also som roms do not support an ext partition on your sdcard natively so that is something to keep in mind.
Do a little reaserch and decide what's best for you. But definetly get the 4ext recovery and I highly suggest changing all partitions on your phone to ext4

Okay. But after that how to format new file system both on sdcard and internal memory? Will titanium backup restore data of some backuped apps due to different location of ext4 partition on sdcard and so on. I mean i will give fresh start to my dz on sdcard too. But there's about 15 apps with important data that i need to restore easily after that.
umm, so if you choose to replace clockwork with 4ext recovery there is an option there to format all partitions (except sdcard) also under info, it will tell you current partitions in case you dont know
now there is an option to format sdcard in there as well (i recommend putting all contents of sd on computer first as a backup) choose swap partition size (probably just choose 0 but if you want swap look more into this) choose ext partition size (usually makes sense to have it larger than internal memory so in your case more than 1gb) dont do a second ext partition (dont know of a rom that supports it) remainder fat32
let it run and then transfer contents from pc back to card (this will transfer back onto fat32 partition)
any file need then is still accessible through both computer and phone (except windows cant read ext partitions)
in titanium backup you can choose where to restore apps too, and yes it recognizes apps on ext partitions
Finally I have time and format everything to start fresh&clean install from scratch.
I've taked screenshot of recovery

So I've noticed that phone keep writes in data, while sd-ext stays untouched. So how can I force install in sd-ext instead of internal memory? I've google it before start installing apps and found that I need to use terminal emulator for typing these cmds:
Su
A2sd install
But second one returns not found, so I decided that may be is automated process, but it isn't as became clear.
What should I do?

[Q] Q. What happened to my storage? SOLVED

I seem to have run into a problem yesterday when flashing a leaked 4.1.2 rom. (on my girlfriend's Xperia S)
I have installed it on a stock .255 as instructed and the installation was completed successfully. I didn't do a full wipe as I wanted to keep all of my previous data. Now the ROM runs absolutely fine on the phone but all data seems to be gone (???).
When I checked the storage on the phone I found that 24gb of data are still being occupied. I installed a file manager and found that all of my previous data along with application data is still present on my phone memory.
After fiddling a bit with the settings and a few ROM flashes later I have managed to put the phone in bootloop and I ended up having to wipe data on the phone with flashtool and I did a clean install of .255 firmware and then flashed the TuRdZzROM.
To my surprise even after going through all of the above the data is still present on my phone's memory. It seems like it is some sort of partition or something that is not being touched by the system. The files can be read and opened through any file manager.
Is there anyone here who understands where the problem lies and how I could fix it?
I attach a couple of screenshots from the filemanager on the phone below.
and here is a full filetree:

The internal memory is highly partitioned. Boot, system, data, cache, TA, and a few other ones, and mainly SD card. That's where your data goes. Unless you format that one, the factory rest won't touch it.

Alright so I have all of this data on the sd card partition... There is a folder called Android in there where all the apps that I have previously had installed (before flashing) have their data stored. Is there any way to "revive" that? (all installed apps have been deleted when flashing )
Also I had some contacts stored in my phone but I can't find them now, would they also be found somewhere on the sd card?

That data stored data isn't the app settings, neither all of that. Mostly cache related files...
About the contact, they aren't stored on the SD card, but on the data partition, under Contacts data. They can be on a vSync file, IF you had a backup made with the Contacts app. If not, they are lost.

Thanks a lot for your help mate
It really confused me how I had most of my storage filled after doing a clean install.

Insufficient space for new and updating apps

I get a insufficient space error when installing new apps or updating existing ones. I bought the phone pre-rooted and running Project X v3.6 from here on XDA. This is my first smart phone, so I'm noob. I don't like the lack of control over data storage. Listed below is the storage breakdown. As you can see, I have space across the board and I cant install the 35MB Inbox by google app. Maybe there's a way to change the size of the partitions? 2GB for apps seems weak to me.
Avail space according to storage in settings:
Device storage - 2GB, 250MB free
USB storage - 11.5GB, 2.9GB free
SD card (for music) - 3.7GB total, 500MB free
I also have a bunch of apps that need updating, but cant.

"wiping cache" --> What cache? Of each app? I'll clear Dropbox app cache and then try to update it, but still says not enough space.
I cleared delvik cache, rebooted, and it showed updating android screen.
Neither fixed it. Still cant update or install new apps. Then available space is still the same as described in the OP.

You can partition an external SD to be read as the data/app folder, most recoveries have the option. Back everything up first though as it will wipe the SD before it partitions it.

I have AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.3.5 for recovery.
I have two options:
partition sdcard
partition internal sdcard
If I scroll down and choose partition internal sdcard, error shows: "Can't partition device: external_sd" (yes it says external sd when I select internal sdcard)
However, if I scroll up to it, it does not show an error and lets me proceed. Nice bug... My question is should I select and partition the internal sd, or will that destroy the OS?
I've never done the internal SD
