Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone can help me with this one. Okay long term, I want to unlock my bootloader, but I've just got my phone set up exactly how I want it. I was hoping to run a backup, so then I can unlock bootloader and restore - but I need root to do it. From what I can see, in order to get root, I need to unlock the bootloader. I'm seeing a very vicious cycle here.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can at least get root without wiping my phone? Or some way of backing up without root?
Thanks all!
There is a method to backup via adb.

You can get the touch version from Koush for free. It's legit. Just installed it today finally through Fastboot.
You need the Android SDK and the recovery.
If your interested and need a link I'll post it here.
(Didn't check the link already posted here.)
Is the method above with link the easiest way. Could I use rom manager.by cwm to do it from play store?
Will installing cwm erase everything on the phone

do you have root? if not, you have to use the method above.
I found a cwmr touch installer in play store. Could I use that to install the cwm or do I have to be rooted for that? Is there a one click root app or something like that or is the process above the easiest

Does that process erase/wipe everything
Also, just clarify... the process that linked still requires root? Or does it do it all together. Can I start from obtaining root access and custom recovery?
last question, if i flash update file from takju 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 through cwm with just unlocked bootloader but no root, will i still get OTA in the future? also, will the update remove cwm?

Need root method for Stock ICS 4.0.4 on LG Nitro
Thanks in advance for any help. I am new to this forum and I novice when it comes to the Android OS.
I updated my LG Nitro to ICS 4.0.4 yesterday, July 31st, 2012.
I had a feeling I wasn't going to be able to keep my root and I was right. I no longer have root privileges and none of the previous methods I used to root 2.3.2 are working.
I have scoured the internet looking for a way to root ICS 4.0.4 with absolutely no luck.
I am looking for a working method to root the new update to the LG Nitro, ICS 4.0.4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated; however, please keep in mind that I catch onto things quick but I am not an expert by any means as far as the Android OS goes. I am used to the one click methods to rooting.
PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN. I REALLY NEED TO ROOT THIS PHONE TO USE MY APPS. ANYWAY I CAN ROOT THIS AND KEEP ICS WOULD BE GREAT!!!!
One working method is to flash v18f, root it and then flash v20c with some scripts
Is there a tutorial?

I appreciate the response.
I sort of understand what you are saying. Is there a tutorial on this? Like I said I am a novice when it comes to the Android OS and tutorials are my life savers.
Thanks!

Okay I know the 1st post asked for root for the offical ICS version, but i don't know if there has been more updates since then, I just got a Nitro HD today. So will this method work to get permanent root for a band new out of the box software version LG-P930-v20c-June-25-2012???
I am not a noobie but I am use to rooting HTC phones and I just want to be sure this will work for software version v20c.
Thanks in advance and i would really appreciate if someone can tell me if this method is safe.

Yes, that method is safe and is the only currently known way to root the v20c version. However, even with root, you will not be able to install CWM. If you only want root, go ahead and follow those instructions.
If you are interested in installing custom ROMs, you must downgrade to a Gingerbread ROM (i.e., follow the unbricking guide).

Hi,
Just wondering how to boot a 100% stock z1c into recovery? Does the bootloader need to be unlocked? Some instructions said to press volume up or down a few times when the notification light comes on, but the light doesn't turn on.
Sorry for the newbie question...

There is no stock recovery. You can install a custom recovery (e.g. CWM, TWRP, etc.) without unlocking the bootloader. There are a few tutorials on the forum.
That explains it! Thanks Chief.
It looks like unlocking the bootloader then installing Cwm is the easiest way to go. I'm not interested in Drm.

Keep in mind DRM keys = warranty. Your last sentence also means "I'm not interested in warranty"
Yeah, I'm tinkering with it. I thought that much was obvious!

As far as I understand you have to root your device first to install a recovery - i might be wrong though
Try here for a foolproof rooting method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
In the "What you can do next" section there is a link to NUTs dualrecovery - works like a charm and is reaally easy to install.

uhm, not sure I understand what you want ... cwm recovery without twrp? what would be the downside of being able to choose between 2 recoveries?
You can install dualrecovery without unlocking your bootloader and get both philz & twrp. There is a link for installing cwm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794
But for that one you need to unlock your Bootloader.
the recovery wont get installed if bootloader is locked...ps:most of the xperia devices
Hi All,
I am currently rooted via Magisk with TWRP installed. I am unable to install the Feb OTA update because of this mostly. I am planning to get stock recovery while keeping the root - question is if I do this via the AIO tool <https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/development/tool-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t3730226> - will i lose all my data?
Thanks,

If you want to take the ota, you need to be unrooted, and on stock recovery. You won't lose your data if your careful with the toolkit.

Thanks Badger! For some reason I thought systemless root works with OTA.

It used to, but not so much on this phone. Friendly advice for ya, learn how to flash factory images, and ditch the OTA's. Much quicker, and less room for error that side loading or waiting on OTA's. Just my opinion my friend ?

Hi badger,
If you are referring to steps laid out here - https://developers.google.com/android/images, then I can do it. Won't it still require me to be unrooted?
I am not that Tech agnostic - so if I am wrong, can you refer me to a thread where this is outlined. My only thing is that I get latest patches and still get to keep root without losing data
Thanks,
J2

Yep, that's the one. No, you don't have to be unrooted for it to work. You won't even lose any data once you learn the -w trick(you'll see) Here's a guide written by Flash, the kernel Dev Jedi Master. Look over that thread, and you'll figure it out pretty quick I bet ?

I can second this method. I flash factory images with root/unlocked bootloader. It is easy to do.
Hello, guys it's there a way to root a 505F? I can unlock the OEM, but I don't know it's there a possibility
You can root it but it's not permanent.
Waiting for someone to figure it out.

yes you can, there is a way in this forum to root. but still some problem after rooting keep showing up.
not sure what makes a50 so problematic to root?
is it android 9 or the device???
everything else is easy to root.
with a50, you can root but have to keep using key combos on boot or lose the root.
don't understand why so difficult with this device.

You need to install twrp first. Follow this https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a50/development/recovery-twrp-galaxy-a50-t3916199/amp/
That twrp is already patched with magisk in the recovery partition. So if you already flash that twrp into your device, consider you already rooting your phone. :fingers-crossed:
