I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, and yes, I know there's another thread about the "confirmed" Dec update from a top dev but I figured this is worthy of its own thread. Sounds like the update might only be for the GSM versions of the phone, and we might have to wait for our specific Epic Touch update, but things must be close at this point.

Indeed my friend.
Sent from the future.
Carriers hold back updates??? They would never do such thing.
I know some updates the carrier has to purchase from the manufacturer and some are free. I don't quite understand where the dividing line is but having to pay for an update would surely slow down a carrier's intention of pushing an update.
Warning about updates
People:
Operating systems are complicated programs.
Whether it's for a desktop PC or a smartphone
there will ALWAYS be bugs. Some bugs only
appear under circumstances that can't be tested
by the manufacturer or service providers. Some bugs
only appear when combined with other applications.
Just know these FACTS:
Manufacturers and service providers aim to make $$$.
They DO NOT make more $$$ when customers are unhappy
and they must provide additional support and services.
Updates and patches will also have bugs.
Custom ROMs will also have bugs.
EVERY new gadget, car or appliance we buy during our lives
WILL HAVE BUGS !

P.S. Samsung released Android 3.2 update for my Galaxy Tab 8.9

down my device. My results were confirmed by a dev on XDA who

so when they do release this for our phones, will i need to unroot to install it? or can someone make a side load for it so we don't have to? any idea?

Amen brotha!
Once the first XDA user who knows what they're doing gets an update, it will be posted here so fast that many will find out about it here, not by getting it via OTA. They push them out over several days so most likely there will be a full stock tar to Odin before many of us get it.

Because the international version is getting something first?
Okay.... the international version also came out first.
The international versions of Samsung devices always get it first.
Samsung has proven time and time again that they are more concerned about the international market than they are the U.S.
It's funny how quickly people forget about history when trying to assign blame.
It's like XDA members live their lives to blame the carriers for everything.
Dammit, it's raining and cold out side, stupid Sprint!
It does make me wonder why AT&Ts Skyrocket just got 2.3.6 pushed to it on 11/22 though, which was released almost 2 months after Sprint's E4GT. Then again, why the Skyrocket and not AT&T's non-LTE GSII? Who knows why these guys do what they do.

Given Samsung's spotty support for CDMA devices, I'd rather they spend time on ICS.
We should be getting a update tonight or tomorrow.

Update: It looks like all CDMA devices are no longer supported, this includes the Nexus S 4G on sprint.
Update 2: There's no evidence that this will negatively impact end users and OTA's. Things are still unfolding...
Update 3: Google WILL continue to support the Verizon Galaxy Nexus via OTA's. You can put the pitch forks away if you're not a dev and just want OTA's.

This would not surprise me. Remember this is still Verizon (Major Carrier). They still want control of the devices on their networks. Kudos to them for giving users the choice of the Galaxy Nexus even though its not considered their flagship. Google not providing the device support in the future will be very bad but this shows that updates will have to come from Verizon.
I am soooo pissed I can barely type. I hope this is a mistake.

Someone might as well get the petition going now. The war has already broken out in the Droid Life comments. For User's Unlocked/Rooted/ROM'ed this isn't as big a blow but the reason most of us purchased the device was because it was a developer phone. Verizon's refusal to allow Google Wallet and support the openess of a developer phone could easily have caused this. My speculation is that Verizon doesn't want to roll out updates as fast as Google wants too and there is some kind of conflict there. Considering there is a leaked 4.0.4 and we haven't seen 4.0.3 released officially is good evidence of this. Just my opinion.

I'm pretty cynical when it comes to this sort of stuff as well but someone should feel some push back as a result of this. I purchased this phone for Google support, I wanted to get a way from Verizon.
Seriously, merge these threads into one. That page has nothing to do with updates.
The page stating CDMA devices aren't supported is for building AOSP builds for target devices. It has nothing to do with OTA updates.
You'll notice another Nexus CDMA device missing, the Nexus S 4G. Guess where it gets its updates from and always has (it's not Sprint)?

I know what you're saying, but at the end of the day you bought a locked CDMA phone on Verizon. You will never get away from Verizon unless you switch carriers and buy a different phone : / The nexus is a little farther away from Verizon compared to a "Droid" but you're crazy if you thought you were going to be as free as a bird when you bought a Nexus on big red.

Filled with quite a bit of miss information tbh.
They state the latest version of pics is 4.0.3. Its not that's only source code. And complain that peoples new phones are still on 4.0.1. That's correct but so are most retail versions.
I'd be pissed if I had a version version. But I'm not surprised as most carriers seen to want control. But the winging from .au is a bit petty. Its only mi cute builds, not like they are major builds behind.

I've been considering paying the ETF and leaving for awhile now. The only thing holding me to stay has been my unlimited data I was grandfathered into, but I'm sure that won't last much longer with the way things have been going (throttling etc.). I'll probably buy a GSM nexus and go month to month on another carrier. It's kind of the final straw.
Why is this such a big issue ? The ability to apply the stock yoku OS is available. Once that's done the phone will receive Google updates, especially for unlocked GNex
So no matter what modem i run. My service sucks 1 to no bars
.and data so slow almost unuseable. Yet my wife has lte at home i barley have 3g. So o finally called vzw did everything the tech guy said. Lol even though i have already many times. So they are sending me a new vzw nexus for free. But he did say samsung gave them a bulletin. Stating a update was coming with in the next 10 dsys to address poor data signal . And voice quality. And others not being able to her you on the phone. So i wounder what build this wil be. He also said it was a direct update. Not through vzw . So if anyone was woundering no the vzw nexus will not have to wait on updates. We are still getting dorect updates.
Umm, I would believe a politician before any vzw csr....
good day.
that phone rep clearly gets his facts straight from the mayans.
the world will end in 2012.
You know better than to believe a csr Just because they sell mobile devices doesn't mean they are any closer to the vendor and it's development timeline than a monkey flinging its own poop at the zoo.
XDA would have posts from reputable persons about releases sooner than a near minimum wage with commission person would (not knocking csr's, just stating that kind of information is above their pay grade).

I heard the exact same thing last week, that mid march is the expected release date to address the piss poor audio quality & signal issues (I get 3-4 bars lte at home for about 3 seconds then switches quickly to 3g).
Coincidentally I spoke to a Tier 3 tech last night and he relayed the same information to me. He said mid to end of March. This update can't come soon enough.

You're new to the Nexus line, aren't you? Because you've got the situation backwards. Nexus will generally be 4-6 months ahead on OS updates. Occasionally, you'll get a small version bump completely unannounced, like the last 2.3.5>2.3.6 update on the Nexus One.

No I understand that Nexus's are Google's flagship and I purchased this phone because it was unlocked and so it wouldn't be outdated (in terms of official OTA's). The fact that Verizon reps have this information makes me believe its a rumor and not a fact.
I'm sure their are intelligent reps out there (and in the forums) but I've never spoke with a tech who could troubleshoot past pulling the battery and doing a factory reset. For them to be supplying OTA info that isn't already in the forums makes is less credible to me.

With respect, I think that is the exact point he was making
I called in because my G'Nex was acting weird during calls. After a few minutes it would begin "clicking" in and out where the caller and myself couldn't hear each other. It literally did it about every 5 seconds and sounded as if you were hanging up a landline phone and picking it back up. On speaker phone it worked better but would often sporadically switch back to phone mic.
After reading several threads of people having their devices replaced because of this issue I called VZW. I spoke to several people over about a 2 hour period who eventually had me factory reset my device. At that point I told him to make a note that I called with the issue, that my issue was "better" at the moment, and that I would like a replacement if the issue returned. He was very nice and agreed but hardly knew anything about my phone and said there were no reports of similar issues.
So again, there are intelligent Verizon reps. I've yet to speak to one.

I can see why people are ungrateful.
First "fix" is developer speak for, "we are tweaking the visuals on your signal bars without actually doing anything helpful."
Second one is to support a Sprint app that I am sure is pay-for.
Last one is a simple toggle preference which I believe is nothing more than a build.prop edit.
Lets not forget what they aren't telling you: That local search will be gimped.
Yeah, I would be pissed and ungrateful too.

Is it really an update? RSSI indicator mod? That is not fixing any type of signal for your phone. It just sounds like a graphic fix to make you feel better.
Wi-fi and LTE defaulted on. I guess this is for the people who do not know they needed to turn it on. Now it will turn automatically once updated. Thing is, unless you are one of the 6 people to be in an LTE market will this really effect you? Bottom line is they need to gimp search and they are probably pressured to do it in a timely fashion. If not for that, you would not be seeing an update.
This is on update that Sprint can have first over Verizon. I will keep my search for now, thank you!
Its a epic fail because of the Be they feed you to update so they can fix some things with out you knowing. How are they not able to just say were going to take search off and give you some pretty lights for signal bars. How does it effect me. I'm with everyone else who thought they were buying pure Google phone. I keep lte off because I don't live in a lte area.
So like he said ^^^ how would this update have anything to do with me.

That isn't exactly true. You can't always depend on what a representative in customer care says about updates or tech support because they don't have that info or knowledge as they are trained to handle your account. Tmobile has the update, they are still testing it and/or putting all their extra junk in it, or have it done and are waiting to release it.

Don't stress it...just relax and drink some hot chocolate...when it comes, it'll come....by the way it's not some huge thing, probably we are way better with the tweaked version of the rooted rom....I would like to have the added functionality of Note 3, but that has to be added to the 4.3 and wouldn't be anything out of the box....there is an International version, Dev his name is Dr K or something, as I know it, he has mastered the Note3 functionality on Note 2, hope a Dev can work with him....but wait your turn...
My last Samsung Phone ever, I'll go with Google Nexus after my contract finish by next year.

I was using the Galaxy Nexus, and was going to upgrade to the N5, but after i seen the camera etc, i didnt really care for it anymore. so i got the note 2 for a low price from a friend, and i didnt know samsung/tmobile would be this bad for updating, i will most definitely be going back to nexus :/
The hold up on updates isn't Samsung, it's up to the carriers when they release it.

Yeah and that's why I preferred a Nexus device because we would receive the update directly from Google, so it doesn't have to go through any other companies.

One thing that i enjoyed from the 4.3 roms was the KNOX stuff i think thats what they called it, that'll stop the phone data from dropping when u use the other roms, because i enjoyed the s4 motions that was in SkyNote and other roms. Also, I have a Galaxy Gear that's awaiting for my support w/ 4.3. Yes, I can flash the old modem that'll stop me from getting 4g / LTE. But what's the use of having a modern phone that won't receive LTE? That's one of the reasons i switched from GNex to the Note2. I was awaiting a phone that would have LTE because I tether to my laptop all the time, and i have business to handle. Everyone has different preferences that they're awaiting for. Just because you don't have the same doesn't mean your right.

That doesn't sound right. Lol, I was talking to a customer rep in Oct, and she said it's going to be in all stores on the 20th, and it would be sold on their website on the 14th of November.

You might ask the Verizon GNex owners what their experience is regarding the subject.
I have a buddy that reminds me regularly that I told him to get the GNex as it was great hardware (at the time, and it was) and would get updates 1st (not so much).

But that's for Verizon. The Verizon Gnex owners said that they would be switching to T-Mobile when the N5 came out because Verizon wouldnt really push the updates out.
