How is it an epic fail?
Gotta love how everyone complains about not getting updates, then when they get an update they're pissed because its not as big as what you expected.

agreed. I don't think this is an epic fail at all. It seems like there is a 26 day turn around time from testing to roll-out. If anything remains consistent, I'm hoping we see jelly bean sometime mid august.

I can see why people are ungrateful.
First "fix" is developer speak for, "we are tweaking the visuals on your signal bars without actually doing anything helpful."
Second one is to support a Sprint app that I am sure is pay-for.
Last one is a simple toggle preference which I believe is nothing more than a build.prop edit.
Lets not forget what they aren't telling you: That local search will be gimped.
Yeah, I would be pissed and ungrateful too.

Is it really an update? RSSI indicator mod? That is not fixing any type of signal for your phone. It just sounds like a graphic fix to make you feel better.
Wi-fi and LTE defaulted on. I guess this is for the people who do not know they needed to turn it on. Now it will turn automatically once updated. Thing is, unless you are one of the 6 people to be in an LTE market will this really effect you? Bottom line is they need to gimp search and they are probably pressured to do it in a timely fashion. If not for that, you would not be seeing an update.
This is on update that Sprint can have first over Verizon. I will keep my search for now, thank you!
Its a epic fail because of the Be they feed you to update so they can fix some things with out you knowing. How are they not able to just say were going to take search off and give you some pretty lights for signal bars. How does it effect me. I'm with everyone else who thought they were buying pure Google phone. I keep lte off because I don't live in a lte area.
So like he said ^^^ how would this update have anything to do with me.

I thought coming fro. T-Mobile Sprint was going to be the **** unlimited data (o yea!) Cheaper and I get a dope ass phone. ( phone is ****ing sexy). But cmon sprint IDC for 4.1 now I just wanna go outside and search the web with my unlimited data at speeds faster then it takes a snail to cross the finish line. And I understand there setting up lte. How long do you think theyll keep it unlimited once the get lte up and running.
Back to topic for those that want to update do you just flash back your bak up off stock and update or do u need to something else.

I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. He said last night around 3 am he got an update for ice cream sandwhich, and its real. He doesn't hack his phone or anything. So just wait a little bit and its coming out. I can tell you that it doesn't have face recognition, but its alot faster than the gingerbread that was on there.
Pictures or it didn't happen. Just kidding. That's great news. Happen to remember the build number. Just wondering because the first update might not contain face recognition.

I want to get excited too. Should our excitement be tempered by the fact that our device is a modified version of the GS2? The hardware is very different from the regular GSII from what I understand. Can't that cause delays?
Everyone called me a troll when I said I was going to get pushed an update early a few weeks ago, hopefully it is true, we will see. With the maintenance release just coming out though, I find it hard to believe ICS is just around the corner. Two otas in such a short period does not make much sense.

Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

The hardware is identical to the international and att Gs2 except for the radios. Its easier said than done to convert it to CDMA without samsungs source code.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.
The LED is as simple as a kernel that supports it and a rom that uses it.

I think a lot of folks get wrapped up in the numbers. Is there any real world difference when you are sitting at home at -100 and the wife is at -83? Is there some sort of call drop or throughput issue that is your concern, or is it just the fact that the number is better?

LTE reads differently in signal strength vs. 3g.
Real world is my wife's razr getting full 4g in olive garden with me bouncing between 3g and 1x on the newest 404 radios after a reboot.

I still wonder why my g/f's Charge reports better signal when I have my Verizon Galaxy Nexus in 3G only mode....in a 3G only area.
I can attest to the signal strength dBm affecting speed. My wife's Charge sits at 80-84 dBm and pulls 20-30mbs on speed test with a lower ping (mid 80's) while my phone in the same spot is at 105-117 dBm constantly moving up and down and im lucky if the download speeds go above 15mbs, usually around 8-10mbs. The reception on this phone is horrible, IMHO this phone is a lemon.
Reception is the most important thing on a phone by far. And the constant flipping from 4g to 3g murders my battery where my RAZR would never ever lose 4g in my house my galaxy is switching back and forth constantly. I'm on Kang b36 w newest radios.

Thanks! Guess I should have seen that coming. I'm in LA for the break and now I'm heading back to DC...I can't even take advantage of Spark for now. Story of my life.
Don't worry its mainly downtown so just enable it thru lte only mode and enable the bands by ##data#, lte put in msl #, of course we'd only be testing it.....
Saw a news announcment from sprint today out of CES that they intend to push the sprint spark triband capability out to the G2 before the end of the month. So this all makes sense. Doesnt look like kit kat will come in that update either tho unfortunately.

Nope, but the last rumors said first quarter 2014, so I'm crossing my fingers for at least a release by mid-Feb. Honestly though, surprisingly good experience with stock 4.2.2, and I can't complain much. It was either this or pick up Nexus 5, and I think the bigger battery/screen and the better cameras are removing any traces of regret.

Looks like yet another version...
With the update officially dropping today anyone receive an OTA?
http://support.sprint.com/support/a...n_on_your_LG_G2/WServiceAdvisory_542_GKB55011
I got the update this morning. New boot animation and 3G/4G icons in the notification bar, but that's all I notice. I am supposedly in a Spark area, and according to Sprint's coverage map I should have the fastest service available, but my service is as awful as ever. I barely get 3G at my home, and have to drive a half mile or so to get LTE that is spotty at best.

That isn't exactly true. You can't always depend on what a representative in customer care says about updates or tech support because they don't have that info or knowledge as they are trained to handle your account. Tmobile has the update, they are still testing it and/or putting all their extra junk in it, or have it done and are waiting to release it.

One thing that i enjoyed from the 4.3 roms was the KNOX stuff i think thats what they called it, that'll stop the phone data from dropping when u use the other roms, because i enjoyed the s4 motions that was in SkyNote and other roms. Also, I have a Galaxy Gear that's awaiting for my support w/ 4.3. Yes, I can flash the old modem that'll stop me from getting 4g / LTE. But what's the use of having a modern phone that won't receive LTE? That's one of the reasons i switched from GNex to the Note2. I was awaiting a phone that would have LTE because I tether to my laptop all the time, and i have business to handle. Everyone has different preferences that they're awaiting for. Just because you don't have the same doesn't mean your right.

Yeah and that's why I preferred a Nexus device because we would receive the update directly from Google, so it doesn't have to go through any other companies.

You might ask the Verizon GNex owners what their experience is regarding the subject.
I have a buddy that reminds me regularly that I told him to get the GNex as it was great hardware (at the time, and it was) and would get updates 1st (not so much).

But that's for Verizon. The Verizon Gnex owners said that they would be switching to T-Mobile when the N5 came out because Verizon wouldnt really push the updates out.

Hmm...
Why is the right door always locked?
Like the title says, ASDA build is available for Sprint. Seems to be an even newer build than ASD8, but still no night mode for camera. It doesn't say too much about what it offers, and after I downloaded it i didn't notice much difference myself. So I'm guessing it may just basically be the security update for May. But, I also noticed in the system updates sections, it's telling me no information on last update, which is weird since that's a first. If anyone else notices this, or anything major that changed let me know.
I doubt this has much, or anything to do with the update, but I've NEVER got LTE speeds like this before today. And this is near my home where my signal is generally always pretty solid.

Lol, yeah I was shocked as hell when I saw that myself. I do usually get 50-60mps there, but never over 100mps. I ran the test 3x in a row and got 165-185mps down so I know it wasn't a fluke.
Same I got a nice little boost too

Damnnnnn, if I got signal that good I wouldn't even have home WiFi lol. I'm in Dallas myself and hit 200mps yesterday, but just barely. Nothing like those speeds though.

I'm thinking I can probably hit 300 at night
New radio is crazy good on ATT also. Not my highest down, but my record upload before was just under 11mb/sec. Almost 20 now? I'll take it!

The firmware is the same for all carriers. The only difference is the userdata. The modem file is the same across all U models, regardless of carrier.
More than likely the towers near you have M-MIMO upgraded and enabled or maybe a former Clear site that was a mini-macro now is full build. There are crews doing both projects.
