I'd like to know if you can root the stock 4.0.4
wrong section
well this is the wrong section but still
4.0.4 can be rooted in 2 ways.
1) flash 4.0.4 (.431) on your phone and then flash the stock kernel of the firmware 4.0.3 (.562) and then use doomlord toolkit to root it
note: you can then flash the original stock kernel of the firmware .431
2)download ready to root .ftf and then flash using flashtool and then root ie(which is nothing but the firmware if .431 but the kernel of.562)
take help from these
ready to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957:fingers-crossed:
3. If you have an unlocked bootloader just boot a custom kernel and install root manually or use the Xperia installer.

:good:
Yes it can, I flashed a stock .431 ftf and used DoomLords root kit.
I had stock 4.0.3 (forget the number) on my phone and received an OTA update to 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431) two nights ago. I still have root after applying the update.

Hi Guys,im new here and forgive me for being a noob
Ok i have flashed the new [ROM]Generic R800i (Play) 4.0.2.A.0.62 but the problem now is i cant root my phone
before this i was on stock R800i ROM 2.3.4 and i managed to Root the phone with Superoneclick
I already tried SuperoneClick (software hang), Doomlord Easy Rooting Toolkit (it says cant copy any files and reboots my Play) and tried using Fastboot method but all failed.
Help?
If you have an unlocked bootloader, flash doomlords kernel it will root you device. ZergRush no longer works on the two newest firmwares.

root arc s 4.0.2.a.0.62
You got a unloxked bootloader
Download superuser.zip from their site. Put it in sdcard
Hotboot a kernel with CWM
find it in dev selection. Put it in fastboot folder on your pc
Fastboot code
Fastboot boot YOURKERNELNAME.IMG
Phone reboots. Press volume down on blue led.
Install zip from CWM menu

1. I wanted to know that is it possible to downgrade using flashtool e.g if i flash a custom rom which is based on firmware .55 but then i flash with flash tool, version .50, would it work?
2. By flashing through flash tool, can i get rid of CWM?
1) yes
2) yes
Assuming you have an unlocked bootloader and you mean flashing ftf files

No. I'm not planning on unlocking bootloader but yes i was referring to ftf files. DOes it change the scenario?
Anyone?
The custom rom part put me off, sorry about that.
You can use flashtool to flash a stock ftf firmware over any custom rom. (also with a locked bootloader.
You could downgrade even to a gingerbread rom if you want

Ok and by flashing stock ftf, i would get rid of even clockwork right? in case of sending it to repair centre.
Thing is, i have played around with custom roms on different phones for ages but the whole part of unlocking bootloader etc is all new to me so before i begin flashing roms.
Yes it would remove cwm since it's embedded in the kernels and since stock firmware kernels don't have cwm it will be removed by flashtool when flashing a stock firmware rom

First flash stock Kernel, and then Relock, If you relock/upgrade your FW, before reverting to stock kernel, your phone might soft-brick..

Hi there,
I unlocked, rooted and installed a custom recovery and rom on the Xperia S from a friend. Now he told me, that he would like to have everything stock again. How can I remove twrp from that device again? And is there a stock rom (even pre-rooted, but full stock) that is flashable through twrp?
Thank you
Instal stock ftf and than root via v root if u want.
Go in development section for stock ftf.
