Hi,
Since upgrading via OTA to 4.0.4, I have noticed that bluetooth audio is terribly delayed - by up to second or so. This makes watching films over bluetooth very offputting to say the least, and the same for playing games.
This does appear to be new to 4.0.4 - since updating I hadn't used my headset for a bit, so have only just noticed it, but I have tested with a game I used extensively (Dead Space) that pre-update was fine, and now appears to suffer considerable delay. I have tested via two different bluetooth audio systems too.
I have not yet tried a factory reset - is this the next step, or have others noticed the issue despite this? Has anyone else noticed this issue at all?
As a follow up to this, a factory reset hasn't helped.
Curiously, youtube vids seem ok, but nothing else...
It depends I have to laptops when I connect to one there seems to be a delay. On the other one the delay is barely noticeable.. it depends really

Ok, just to add to the confusion, YouTube vids are fine, but games/DVD rips aren't.
I'm now wondering if this is a load-related issue?
Ok, still more information;
Whan playing a video using MXPlayer, if I use H/W decode, everything is fine. As soon as I switch to S/W decode I get the delay.
I have also tested in GTA3, Dead Space and SpeedX 3D, all of which worked fine prior to 4.0.4, and all of which now have an audio lag.
This is almost certainly an issue with 4.0.4 as a friend has just upgraded his Xoom to 4.0.4 and now has the exact same behaviour I do.
As such, I can't imagine this will get a quick fix, but I do want to raise awareness of the issue.
Same here
Does sound like a 4.0 problem.
I have been getting the same thing since upgrading my Sony Tablet.
So this has happened ever since I've owned my galaxy nexus (over a year now). With every revision of android and I've done full wipes. I've always ran stock android with root access. It happens randomly, not terribly often but often enough that it's annoying (sometimes it's a couple times a week). Only way I've found to fix it is by doing a reboot. And it happens in various programs; youtube, tinyshark, pandora.
I always thought it was a bandwith issue (ie stream pausing waiting for the connection to catch up). I thought solavei/simple mobile wasn't fast enough, or the network was given second priority over tmobile customers. But I've switched back to T-mobile unlimited and have 12mbps consitently. Recently I've noticed it happens even when the stream has a decent amount of buffer AND it's actually still playing. As in, the timeline is still going up in seconds (not paused, like waiting for the buffer). So it really confused me because for all reasons it looks like it should still be playing (not buffering). It does this while cutting out for like 2-3 seconds at a time, and then the audio comes back for maybe 30 seconds and continues this trend until I reboot my phone. I've even gone to the extent of running speed tests while it's happening and I have a solid connection everytime but it still keeps cutting out. Also something weird I noticed is it seems when I unplugged the aux out going to my headphones jack I couldn't get it to replicate the problem over the phone speaker. I'm not sure about that though, I've only tried that a few times.
Is there some sort of audio buffer setting I can increase somewhere? I don't know why this is happening but it's very frustrating and not easy to pinpoint. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Note: I don't know if this happens with the stock media player with local files (I don't really listen to downloaded mp3s) but I can't really recall it ever happening this way when I have.
I've been experiencing this for a while now, every now and then when I'd watch movies on my tablet using the stock video player or even others such as MX Player and VLC, a crackling sound comes off that it sounds muzzled and blurry at the same time and the only thing to resolve it is to pause the movie or video then resume It right away then it's gone. The issue is it comes back time to time but rarely happens on YouTube as I recall, now I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue with the speakers, I'm not rooted and haven't modified anything at all, I've had this tablet for 2 months. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I wouldn't want to trade this is for a brand new device but if I really need to I would. Was just thinking if there was a work around for this without rooting the device.

Can you record the sound? Might be the app and the video itself if everything is fine on youtube. For my device I use allstar video player and its all fine. Could be an app issue with the video maybe? I havent tryed those video player apps but stock is fine for me also.
Not sure, thanks for the reply though. I could try recording it. Maybe it's just my speakers, cause I usually use the stock video player for my movies and that's where it happens.

Anyone else experience lag with poweramp? It is really ruining my music. I have gotten so used to it that its expected now and it is very disappointing.
it has worked fine since the beginning.
what kind of lag are you experiencing?
No lag here either through bluetooth and also through my gear S it works perfect.
the lag I was experiencing was that the song would be playing fine regularly and would cut out for like a second or two and resume playing. This mainly happened through bluetooth but think I remember it happening through headphones. Since rolling back to 4.4.4. I haven't experienced this but it was really getting on my nerves how one of the latest phones out would screw up playing simple mp3s
are you using poweramp with a lot of dsp settings?
the first thing you could have done was increased the audio buffer to see if it fixes it.
maybe lollipop just isn't buffering enough sound for your Bluetooth device?(trying to save energy?)
rolling back to kitkat (loses a sdcard functions so might not be the best idea)
Anyone experiencing choppy videos or videos that keep playing audio but freeze up? Happens on my pixel xl and is universal... YouTube, my video playback, Facebook video. Not app specific.
Did you have all apps updated in the store? If not do that. If that doesn't help try a factory reset. Nothing else can be done
Yeah... Will have to try the factory reset I suppose.

Mine does that too. Noticed it during YouTube playback.
I had the same thing happening today on youtube, video would freeze but audio kept playing, only problem is I am on a Note 4 until my Pixel XL gets here. Cant speak to the other issues, curious if a reset solved it for you.
Did a restart and seemed to work itself out... At least when playing my own videos back. If it creeps back I will try the full factory reset.
Not seeing this on my xl

Exactly what happens to me on my new Pixel XL
Yep happens to me on youtube app. Not tried it on my own videos yet though. Hopefully a fix will be released soon for this.
This was driving me crazy this morning. Watching YouTube on Pixel XL and video would freeze while audio kept going. Not happening on Netflix so far. Just YouTube. I emptied the cache and cleared data for YouTube app and force stopped it. Hasn't happened since. I wonder if it's a software problem with Android 7.1?
I've been experiencing this also while watching Netflix. The video will pause for 15-30 secs with the audio continuing. Eventually it synchs back up further up in the scene. Amazon video won't play at all. Do you think this is a case of the apps not yet jiving with Android 7.1? Or possibly some bad phones? Mine is a Pixel XL from Verizon. I'm still within my 14 day to return if a bad unit. Anyone have an idea what could be going on?
I get this with videos on Twitter and FaceBook. Havent seen it with YouTube and I rarely watch Netflix. It is very irritating but can normally be resolved with a restart.
Just contacted support about this. Literally anything video playback has a 3 second stutter and then the audio end up being out of sync. Happens with my recorded videos, snap chat, Instagram, YouTube etc.
Of course after restarting no issues. I wonder what's causing it.

Getting the same thing. Reboot needed to fix it.
No one knows what triggers it?

I also have the same issue, when I take a video then play it, it freezes between 3-9 seconds with the audio still going. At some point the video restarts, and when it gets back to where the video froze, starts again with the audio in sync. See video below.
Edit: a reboot only fixes the issue temporarily, it seems to come back within a couple hours.

So bad
It's absolutely horrendous! Came from a nexus 6p never had this issue. It's happening in, literally, every app with video, sometimes it won't even play audio or video on Facebook, it does it when I'm trying to play Snapchats where I'll hear the audio but the video freezes and then the video playa really fast all at once at the end to catch up with the audio. It does it on YouTube and Netflix and Hulu as well. It even does it when I'm recording video within Snapchat! I'm disappointed that the phone has been performing more poorly than my old nexus 6p. I hope they fix it asap. I do not want to ba e to do a factory reset. I just finally got done painstakingly setting up all my apps again on this
I only have this issue with YouTube... Usually locks up when I do full screen and after it rotates it feeezes but audio continues.
I occasionally will have YouTube freeze but audio continues. Seems to be only YouTube though and I don't think it's the phone because it was happening on my Note 7 as well.
Happened to me a handful of times where video stops playing but audio keeps going in YouTube. Am I the only one that doesn't realize the video stopped until like 30 seconds later? lol
All I have to do is rewind the video a small amount and then it keeps going and doesn't happen again for that video.
