[Q] lag when using poweramp - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Anyone else experience lag with poweramp? It is really ruining my music. I have gotten so used to it that its expected now and it is very disappointing.

it has worked fine since the beginning.
what kind of lag are you experiencing?

No lag here either through bluetooth and also through my gear S it works perfect.

the lag I was experiencing was that the song would be playing fine regularly and would cut out for like a second or two and resume playing. This mainly happened through bluetooth but think I remember it happening through headphones. Since rolling back to 4.4.4. I haven't experienced this but it was really getting on my nerves how one of the latest phones out would screw up playing simple mp3s

are you using poweramp with a lot of dsp settings?
the first thing you could have done was increased the audio buffer to see if it fixes it.
maybe lollipop just isn't buffering enough sound for your Bluetooth device?(trying to save energy?)
rolling back to kitkat (loses a sdcard functions so might not be the best idea)

Bluetooth A2DP stutter cuts out while streaming music

I have noticed since I upgraded from GS3 to Note 3 that when I am streaming music to my car stereo the audio will skip or stutter. The song continues to play but the audio cuts out for anywhere up to a second or two. Has anyone else seen this or resolved it?
I have seen some posts that say turning off WiFi fixed it but I still get the skip, if a little less frequently with WiFi turned off.
It seems to go away if I set the developer options to keep the screen awake while charging. So it seems like the CPU clock may be too low during sleep to maintain everything else it is doing as well as audio streaming.
Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!
This happens to me too sometimes. It seems worse when I first start streaming & then it calms down a bit. But it still occasionally skips. I experienced this on my note 2 as well though, so I don't think its an exclusive issue to the N3.
This is happening 4 or 5 times per song, so it is quite annoying LOL

Stock ROM? Stock Kernel? Need more info from both of you.
Sounds like the CPU might be dropping too low when the screen is off, causing the stuttering. You could try a custom kernel with a higher screen off frequency.
Used to happen on my S2 and this was the problem...

Full stock, I believe that is the problem as it is pretty much resolved when I leave the screen on. Still testing this here and there to be sure.
This has happened to me on every rom & kernel I've tried. Which is pretty much all of them for the N3, and everything from stock to CM on the N2.

I have the same problem on my GN3 international version and yes leaving the screen on WILL solve it. However, that's not a practical solution.
Try this, download Poweramp, go into settings, audio, advanced tweaks, set the audio buffer size to Large (+250ms) and audio thread priority to +2
See if that works for you. If it does, then buy the full version even though I like the timbre effect and bass on the stock music player but this is the only solution, so far.

What headunit? I run Kenwood KDC-X995, and never had an issue with it cutting out. THe headunit wouldn't display track info though. The way I fixed this is connecting via the Stock Samsung media player., Everything has been a dream since
I had this problem and it just went away after a few reboots and some time. ..

A2DP loss
Note 3 Owner here. Rooted with stock ROM and stock kernel. (T-Mobile)
Experiencing intermittent Bluetooth audio loss as well.
Just contributing to the list.

BTW, what player are y'all using? In power amp there is an option for keep service awake if music.stops while.playing with screen off. And there is also option to use a wake lock also. I am not having any problems nor have I ever so I can't help. The only other suggestion I have is maybe your radio Bluetooth sucks. I went through a period of testing many Bluetooth headset and receivers a couple years ago. Needed something good to listen to my music while I rode my bike. Many of the Bluetooth I tested were very sensitive to the bumps and vibration while riding hard on my mountain bike. The only solution for those were to put receiver right next to my phone. Being in my pocket was too far away or something. I ended up sticking with Sony mw600 as all purpose. It could take any headset, and I was able to use it as a receiver in my truck as it didn't have Bluetooth. Now I also have a Honda civic with built in Bluetooth and all is well. My Sony mw600 oled stopped working though so in on lookout for a nice apt x receiver.

I am using a Sony DSX-S300BTX and have had no previous issues with my HTC Sensation 4G or my Galaxy S3. It only started when I got my Note 3. I use Google Play Music with the All Access service.
Just an update on this. Over the weekend I did a factory reset and this time I did not let it restore settings and apps from my Google account. I went through and installed all the same apps i was using before. And so far I have only noticed 1 stutter/cut out since then. And if I am correct, this only happened when I was leaving my house and it switched from Wifi to 4G LTE on the stream.
Will continue to monitor and see if the issue comes back. But so far I am rather happy.

Trying this recommended app/setting combination, and hope that the skipping stops on the A2DP connection in the car. *crosses fingers*

I came from the Note 2 to the Note 3 and I'm fearing that it's 4.3 that is causing the bluetooth intermittent issue. Whether or not I stream from Pandora or my music player, I get the stutter. Doesn't matter what ROM I use between hyperdrive and beans too. Someone said it could be the adblock that is causing the stutter but I don't have that installed at all. Getting pretty frustrating.
Ended up not working for me,...but keeping the screen on did seem to eliminate the skipping.
Wonder if there's anyway to force Bluetooth not to sleep,....

I ONLY get the stutter when using the stock music player. It never happens when using, for example, TuneIn Radio.
I exchanged 2 Note 3's. The first one had the stutter problem so I returned it. The second one had NO stutter problems but overheated from time to time, exchanged as well. The third one doesn't over heat but, unfortunately, has the stutter problem. So, I just gave up. The PowerAmp solution works for me, though.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you.
Someone mentioned increasing the minimum CPU frequency and that would solve it. Try upping it to 400Mhz see what happens but this will definitely drain your battery more than usual.

The same thing happened to me on the note 2.... actually the n3 isn't as bad as the n2 was. Fwiw
sent from my ??????? note 3?
SO I have started to notice that it isn't actually the stream stuttering, but a short disconnect of the bluetooth. I noticed that when the music cuts out, it also drops the media connection to my car stereo, in that the artist and song title disappear until the connection comes back. Seems like a bad bluetooth stack or something as I tested a Nexus 5 and do not have this issue at all. And I never had a problem on my GS3.
Hopefully the 4.4.2 update will resolve this issue. Whenever that may be...
I have this problem as well, (stock rom rooted, stock kernel) I use power amp. now however I cant stream my music through bluetooth at all, but when a call comes in, it streams. Doing a little digging into my phone, my N3 seems to think im in a call, and only plays my music through the speaker for your ear. it only started a few hours ago. even when I am not connected to bluetooth, it still plays music through the same speaker. tried uninstall reinstall. I did update apps earlier when I got home (ove wifi). once they were done, that seems to be when this issue started.
any help/suggestions?

audio skipping...anyone else have this problem?

I've searched the forums and found quite a bit of people saying they have experienced this, but I'm not sure if they were using notes or not.
For some reason, it doesnt matter what app I'm using, pandora, xm, or the stock players. They all studder just slightly, sometimes more so when the screen is off.
It's not a bluetooth specific thing, it happens over bluetooth as well as the speaker of the note3.
Is there a solution for this? It really drives me crazy and how can I host a party next weekend with this doing that
My girlfriend does not experience this on her nexus 5, is my problem specific to jellybean?
Thanks for your advice!

yep same problem.
i had it on nexus 4 - 4.3. but um, didn't start on my note 3 until after a few days of use. I'm not sure rebooting helps for long. i tried poweramp and jetaudio and stock player. Skips everywhere.
I tried setting decoder priority and buffer size to higher on Poweramp. Not sure if it'll help but we'll see.
I'm on N2 right now that has exact same problem, but BT only related. The micro pauses also differ between the receivers Sony Ericsson MW600 is so far the worst offender, the pauses last 1/2 second, on other receivers it's barely noticeable.
At least on N2 it's not related to the JB version, it was happening on 4.1.2 and 4.3. Changing kernel also doesn't affect the issue.
I suspect the cause is BT doesn't get enough priority and if lot's of apps running on the background it starts skipping. Usually I just reboot the phone then it works fine for a few hours, sometimes I use fast reboot app, that kills background processes it helps somewhat too.

Using PowerAmp I went to Huge buffer and Highest priority and it seems to have fixed the stuttering for me. I'm on rooted stock.

yup. same. now wish they'd add the same features to jetaudio+ and other players D:
I get this problem often. Odd.
I'm not sure if this is a solution but I noticed the problem went away when I was using different roms/kernel combinations.
Currently I've been using the compulsion kernel with some international roms and the problem hasn't come back!
Is it the kernel or rom I can't be sure. But either way it's fixed.
If someone experiencing problems with their rom wants to try the compulsion kernel and see if the problem still exists maybe it can help a lot of people.

Bluetooth Music Issues?

Anyone having any problems running aftermarket roms? I'm on Liquidsmooth and I am extremely dissapointed in the bluetooth quality. About to go back to stock or get rid of the tablet to just use my tab pro instead. IT doesn't skip or pause but it like, mutes for a second every 5 or so seconds. Its not consistent. But it happens soo much it gets me really angry. I'm on a fresh copy of LiquidSmooth. Haven't really done anything and nothing is running in the background that could be taking up all the system resources. I've even tried multiple music players even tho they all are horrible except PowerAmp which still doesn't have a tablet mode years after said feature was in the works.
You know of any fixes?
Googled Android Bluetooth Skip and seems its a very common problem among a few devices including the Note 4.... I don't have any issues with my Tab Pro, Just Tab S... This is bugging me because its main function is to play Music Via Bluetooth. Would prefer it through RCA/3.5mm but I don't have one
Had the same problem with my phone, solved it by adding the bluetooth device as a trusted device, so that when connected to bluetooth speaker the phone doesnt lock its self, done the same on my tab s and no problems streaming music using google music, as far as i can figure out its related to the kernel lowering the cpu speed when the screen locks, so you may be able to solve the prob using a kernel manager and increasing the idle speed, but personally i like the phone not locking when listening to music as i can access the player without unlocking, making it easier to put on a different album or song, hope this helps

Use to have similar issues with the stock player on another device.
Solved it with Playerpro.
Install from play then in the app open settings then go to Audio.
Select to install the dsp pack then make sure it's active.
You will see a new option 'Audio buffer' change this to large. See how you go.
Seems to me also like an audio buffering issue (I think PowerAmp has a larger one by default). You could try raising the minimum CPU frequency since this us often the cause for problems kind this.
On that note, don't forget that none TW based ROMs don't have support for the APT-X codec that provides vastly better audio quality over Bluetooth as long as your audio adapter/headphones/car audio supports it as well. Nothing to do with the issue at hand though.
Its not a buffering issue. Its an audio pause issue. Its extremely common with Note 4 and some others. I solved it by going to a TouchWiz OEM style rom. The AOSP roms seem to all do it. Adjusting buffering settings changes nothing. Its as if the bluetooth drivers aren't capable of handling the "power" of whats going on. The Music still plays during the pause.
So far TW Roms seem to be the best for Bluetooth Audio. I use it daily since the Tablet is the main front end to my car, with a Sony 610BT AppRemote Deck.

Bluetooth issue

Hello, I'm having an issue with Mate SE's bluetooth quality. I will connect the phone to my jbl flip 3 bluetooth speaker and when music is playing, it skips, a lot. I have a bluetooth adapter in my car and when I connect my phone to that, it plays pretty well. Occasionally a skip, but bearable. Now you might say it's a problem with my speaker, when I was on EMUI 5.1 I used the phone with my speaker for an entire weekend out of town and didn't have any issues. The speaker also works fine with any of my other phones.
So it's specific to this phone, and the OS. I've tried lineage, xenonHD, and RROS, all the same problems.
I'm going to stock EMUI 8.0 to see if it persists. But perhaps this is a known issue or an issues someone has already had and can help me out.
Alright, so I'm back on EMUI8 and now the audio isn't skipping. But the audio is terrible quality. Anyone know how to fix this on custom roms?
Alright, so I'm back in RROS and was doing some trouble shooting with the bluetooth connectivity. I was messing with developer options to see if there was anything that could help, but nothing did. But I did notice something, I downloaded an app (A web browser) from the playstore and it made the skipping x100 worse while it was downloading and installing. Then it went back to average choppy.
might be something interfering with bluetooth. here i have good audio on bluetooth on custom roms, but it's a bit choppy from time to time. on emui, the issue goes away, audio is nice, no choppiness.
I've noticed degraded wifi speeds and latency when bluetooth is turned on.
Any test I did was without my WiFi turned on. It is something with the custom roms that cause the stutter with my bluetooth speaker. Hopefully it gets fixed as things get more stable.

a520f AOSP extended bugged out sound

From time to time, pretty common actually, the sound that's playing through the phone will start to distort. This especially happens when listening to music and using another app but I've also noticed it with the
swiftkey keyboard sounds. Is there any way to fix this?
I have the same issue and I don't know of a fix, but I do know that staying on the app playing audio tends to keep it from distorting, so just try to keep the screen on and don't multitask a lot I guess until this bug gets fixed.
