Have you tried just to reflash the kernel and the rom? Kernel(boot.img from the rom) through fastboot and the rom through recovery.

Hi guys
My friend has come to me today to ask me to help sort his phone out. It is an unrooted Wildfire S and its been crashing alot recently. He describes it as:
"Recently it was telling me i had too low a storage to even recieve messages, so i kept clearing the cache but that only freed about 0.5 mb.
About 4 days ago the stock internet browser kept crashing and not loading up any page. when the force close app came up that crashed aswell and sometimes i had to reboot the phone. I moved on to dolphin browser and that worked for a day or 2 but that crashed too and so did opera to few minutes i was able to work with it. The crashes happened so frequently it was impossible to use the internet.
Yesterday after the internet crashed again, then the force close process crashed so did the entire htc sense proces sending me to the settings menu(i think it was, i csant remember where it sent me). I couldn't do anything so i decided to reboot the phone. After turning it back on it was stuck in a boot loop staring on the htc screen, then going black and then going to htc quietly brilliant screen. This was normal until it went black and did the htc quietly brilliant screen again. I was able to activate the recovery menu and selected recovery. It came up with a working sign and then an error message. I then removed the battery as it was hot and let it to cool down. Later when i retryed it i couldn't access the recovery menu and it is stuck in boot loop.
The last app i installed was my o2 about 2-3 weeks ago and i haven't done any OS updates."
I myself have a HTC Wildfire rooted and understand pretty much everything.
So if you could help him all with be appreciated and the thanks button pressed multiple times

Using a RUU IS useful! You can tweak the other stuff later.

If you can access HTC Recovery (white one, not CWM Recovery) you can try this:
1- Open .exe file, wait for it to load files
2- Open Windows Explorer and type "%temp%" to address bar.
3- There will be a rom.zip in somewhere in this folders.
4- Copy this rom.zip to your sd card and rename it to PG76IMG.zip
5- Put SD Card to your phone and open Recovery (Volume Down + Power keys)
6- It will be installed otomatically
This will delete all of your files in phone memory.
Here's what I did.. I restored my one x to original settings because the screen froze.. then it froze at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So then i factory reset my phone.. (i dont know what i was doing) and now i have no files in my sd card so i cannot do anything.. Please help me!!

Hey all!
I'm a NOOB!...
I have rooted my phone, following some video on YouTube.. All went fine, then a friend told me to install Cmod 9.. Which would not allow me to boot into recovery. Anyway he did something to enable recovery, which has now left my phone in a state where I cannot connect to the computer.. The phone also has nothing on it to recover to, as it was wiped (silly I know). My question is, is there anyway to force connect to my pc, so I can upload a new ROM or am I completely stranded?
I know there are some pros out there and I would love to hear from you

Reflash the recovery.
Then boot into recovery and mount USB storage and you are back to life.

Thanks a lot my friend!
So for anyone else experiencing this problem
First of all I had no back up, I erased everything off of my phone and when physically connected to the pc, my device was not shown..(Unless I left it at the HTC logo, but only here my device would show up in faded grey in 'My Computer', when selected it would say 'device not ready!'
Once following the steps kindly provided above by Jonas2295 (Thank you)
Flash your recovery.
Boot into the boot loader by holding power + volume down button, until it resets into the boot menu.
Select recovery, navigate your way to ..... + Mount (I cannot remember, you will find it though)
Mount USB Storage
I found that my phone would only show up as a valid storage device on my PC when staying in that setting.. So do no navigate away from the 'mount USB Storage' setting once you have enabled it! Until you have transferred your new ROM on board.
I first used Coredroid, but that kept getting stuck at the beats logo. So I tried 'arhd' (Android Revolution HD)..
Once installing it did not look promising, as it staying at the HTC logo for about 5 minutes, then it came into play.
I now have a working HTC again
So thanks to again to Jonas2295 and hopefully by me asking this question, maybe more silly people like me can fix their HTC's
Good Luck!
You are welcome
Glad I could help you out if this situation!
Enjoy your recovered one x.

Hi guys
I have a stock unrooted Desire HD which a friend borrowed from me & he gave back to me broken. Grrrr!
Basically what is happening is when you power on the phone, everything seems normal at first, the phone boots up, the HTC logo appears for a few minutes as it's loading & it brings me to the lock screen as normal.
When the phone is unlocked, however, the HTC logo appears again & the phone reboots, repeating the cycle all over again.
I've tried to factory reset the device to no avail.
Are there any suggestions on how I can get this phone up and running again?
I did want to root it & flash another ROM to it, but from what I can remember (i have another Desire HD which I rooted a year ago) the phone needs to be working in order to install the required software to root it.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated

Well, I would try to do a full wipe first (thou you have already done a factory reset). Then, I would try to flash a ruu, if that is not working, you can run the Kit from fastboot choosing that option, but of course you have to make sure that you have no hardware issue of the phone could end up useless.
What did he do to end up like that??
Hi glevitan
thanks for your advice. I have no idea what he did. He lives overseas and was visiting here so I gave home the phone to borrow while he was here.
Then when he went back home a few months ago, he gave the phone back to me & I haven't powered it on until now. So I haven't had a chance to ask him.

No need to freak out about screen burn-in. It typically doesn't happen on LCD screens. At worst, you will have something related, but not permanent called "image persistence" where you may seen an after image of the graphic (in this case HTC logo) but it will go away eventually, after the screen displays other images enough times. But I doubt image persistance will even happen before the battery drains.
Restore a TWRP backup if you made one. And if you have TWRP installed, and didn't make a backup; then why the heck not?
Otherwise, you can find a stock TWRP backup posted to the collection, that correspond to you version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
In the future, don't mess with the Advanced wipe options in TWRP unless you know exactly what you are doing, and what the result will be. The "Advanced" options aren't normally needed, and it says as much on the default wipe screen. If you do choose to use the Advanced options, double check what you are wiping before you wipe to confirm. As you now know, there is no additional confirmation after you select the partitions to wipe, and swipe.

I tried installing my frienda backup by putting it onto my sdcard and when i went to restore nothing showed up and then i tried to convert it to a zip file and this time instead of me going to there i went install and when i tried to install it.. it gave this error messages and it said failed at bottom
You'll need to get into HBOOT mode. Then select recovery. Then use adb to push your rom zip. I would use the same rom as before because it sounds like the data partition wasn't deleted. If it wasn't when you reboot after the push you'll have some information left like messages and apps that were not system. Look on YouTube for instructions on how to setup adb.

Depending on what version number your friend has, that backup won't work.
Do a fastboot getvar all, and post the result (delete IMEI and serial number before posting). This will give us the necessary info to help properly.

Its not clear whether the OP flashed a ROM.zip to begin with (wasn't stated either way).
