No need to freak out about screen burn-in. It typically doesn't happen on LCD screens. At worst, you will have something related, but not permanent called "image persistence" where you may seen an after image of the graphic (in this case HTC logo) but it will go away eventually, after the screen displays other images enough times. But I doubt image persistance will even happen before the battery drains.
Restore a TWRP backup if you made one. And if you have TWRP installed, and didn't make a backup; then why the heck not?
Otherwise, you can find a stock TWRP backup posted to the collection, that correspond to you version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
In the future, don't mess with the Advanced wipe options in TWRP unless you know exactly what you are doing, and what the result will be. The "Advanced" options aren't normally needed, and it says as much on the default wipe screen. If you do choose to use the Advanced options, double check what you are wiping before you wipe to confirm. As you now know, there is no additional confirmation after you select the partitions to wipe, and swipe.

I tried installing my frienda backup by putting it onto my sdcard and when i went to restore nothing showed up and then i tried to convert it to a zip file and this time instead of me going to there i went install and when i tried to install it.. it gave this error messages and it said failed at bottom

You'll need to get into HBOOT mode. Then select recovery. Then use adb to push your rom zip. I would use the same rom as before because it sounds like the data partition wasn't deleted. If it wasn't when you reboot after the push you'll have some information left like messages and apps that were not system. Look on YouTube for instructions on how to setup adb.

Depending on what version number your friend has, that backup won't work.
Do a fastboot getvar all, and post the result (delete IMEI and serial number before posting). This will give us the necessary info to help properly.

Its not clear whether the OP flashed a ROM.zip to begin with (wasn't stated either way).

[FIXED] I think I bricked my Desire

Ok so I tried to install a ROM using the ROM manager. My phone is rooted with Super user permissions on.
Anyway I waited about 30 minuted, the phone cycled on and off, and then just hung in the off position.
I could see that the USB charging light was on. I tried to hit the power button but all t hat came on was the bottom keys (they light up but nothing else) I removed the battery and put it back in, tried to reboor and the phone just got stuck on the HTC screen. (the first one)
I can get into the boot loader (holding power and down) but when I am in there I try to go to recovery and it just hangs in the HTC screen again. I tried plugging it into the usb and trying this but more of the same.
Any advice? Yes I have read some of the threads but I am a pretty new user and pretty nervous at the moment at the thought of having bricked this phone.
Thanks for any advice,
Phil
Also the info I get on the bootloader screen is as follows
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.83.00001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL SYNT0101
Radio 5.09.00.08
Jun 10 2010
Then of course HBoot
I just want to add one more detail. I have tried Fake Flash. I put it onto my SD card and tried to boot into recovery. Again I get to the boot loader but when I click on Recovery the phone simply goes to the HTC screen and hangs there. Then it will either stay in that screen or turn off depending on who knows.
Also I tried formatting a new SD card I had lying around into Fat 32 and then putting fake flash on it and trying to boot with that. Same result.
Again gents, I have read the posts and have tried everything I have listed above so any advice or expertise would be more than welcome. Luckily I am still with in my 14 day return to store no questions asked time frame, but I'd really like to try to resolve this problem.
Thanks!!
I had that problem too. The only way to fix it was to wipe data.
Anyways flash this custom image see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748618
The problem is our devices are SLCD whereas rom manager and clockwork is made for AMOLED.
Goodluck and this will fix it
mfpreach's advice should help you. Just want to say that you can flash without going into recovery, look for PB99IMG.zip in this forum...
I've got the same problem but with an amoled desire - just gets stuck at htc logo - wrote about it here with no help really: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747775
Can't enter recovery & tried official RUU with no success - i'm gonna send mine off for repair i think - didn't know you could flash without recovery though - might give that a go first.
Just managed to fix my phone! See my thread for the solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7548991
Thank you so MUCH!!!!
This absolutly worked! I was able to enter recovery and restore my old image. I didn't even lose any of my info.
Ok so just to clear this up, are there different ROMS for different screens?
Where did I go wrong? Is my ROM Manager the wrong one?

No the ROMs are the same - i think it must have been some random corruption - i also use ROM manager so may be related to that.
Once you are rooted you can flash ROMS regardless of screen type.
What i do is just put the rom zip on my sdcard & then boot into clockworkmod recovery manually and flash the zip from that instead of using ROM manager.
So when u say u boot into cloookwork, do u mean that u boot into the bootloader? I am not sure I 100% understand.

[Q] Bootloader Keeps Trying to Flash PD98IMG (Bug Loop)

Good day everyone!
Explanation fell free to skip...
So I have my HTC Desire HD, fully rooted, with Eng-S OFF, Radio OFF, the 1.1.1.1 and all that.
After 2 days running coredroid v.8 phone went crazy and started rebooting (I suspect it was the launchpro app).
I did a full wipe and went to reflash the room but it was not working.
So I tried downgrading again but here's the problem:
Real Problem
Everytime I try to enter the bootloader the
"SD Checking Screen" comes up "Loading...[PD98IMG.zip]"
But my my PD98IMG.zip for some reason is corrupt.
If I choose yes to update SD Zip it fails on step "[4]- Fail-UZ". The rest is ok and in the end syas "Update Fail" Press power to reboot.
The damn thing is that when I reboot this cycle starts again and again! (sd checking....loading...)
If I choose not to update I Still have to reboot which leads me back to the cycle!
Please might community! Tell me how to solve this!
I dont have anywhere else where I could mount my SD Card..
Is there any way to cancel the commands that pushes the HTC to update the zip?
Problem is that the phone is not found on command prompt when this booting begins.
Any ideas??
Best regards everyone,
Joao LUiz
I had the same problem with coredroid v7.1,phone booting, enter my pin and the restart after restart.....but taking out the battery solved my problem

1. Take out your battery.
2. Take out memory card.
3. Put back battery and boot into bootloader. And choose recovery.
4. Put back your memory card.
5. You can do whatever you need to do.
Some advice, move your PD98IMG file to other directory when not used. Don't put at root folder.
Edit: Why are you putting PD98IMG.zip for?

Update 10/09/2011
Went and bought an Microsd usb adapter. Plugged the MicroSD, formated, changed the PD98IMG. zip for a new one.
Plugged in the phone the update went through fine. However when I rebooted only got HTC white screen.
I removed the battery to make it reboot again, now in bootloader. And guess?
The freakin thing is asking for the update again!!! God damn it!
As I see it my phone is with a command that keeps telling it to boot the image. Any ideais on how do I cancel this command?

Thanks for the reply darren.
I was trying to run PD98img just to see if it would stop asking for updates.
I did as you suggested but now when I click Recovery I get a black screen with an HTC on it and a red exclamation point inside a triangle.
Before I was getting a SYNC sign like it was looking for my SD card. The sd is running fine on the adapter...oh well...
So, You restored your DHD using a PD98IMG and now after restoration your stuck either at the bootloader or at the white screen with the green HTC logo?
Firstly what PD98IMG did you flash? 1.32.405.6, 1.72.405.6, 2.32.405.6 or other?
Secondly, can you access the stock recovery menu and attempt a factory reset from there? - Remove & reinsert battery, hold Vol Down + Power. You should get a plain menu in blue if I recall with 2-3 options. One should be factory reset/restore. Use volume to navigate & power to enter.

Andy,
Yep my phone updated on PD98IMG and now I'm stuck at bootloader or the white with green logo!
The PD98IMG was 1.32 from this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
I did as you suggested. Clicked factory wipe, it took me to a black screen with the htc phone on it + a big green syncing symbol and at the bottom a meter bar with a MicroSD card logo to the right of it.
It went black after a short time , then the device rebooted back to HTC white screen.
Does it mean it worked? Could it be my SD card ?
Again thank you all for the replies,
I'm going crazy over here!
Plus
Now on bootloader screen it says Hboot USB Plug.
But when I go cmd and type adb shell it says error device not found.
If I try to go into recovery I get the Black screen with red triangle and exclamation point.
Is your phone still eng s-off? By right, flashing PD98IMG will revert it to s-on..

Oh great! Now how will I be able to make it S-OFF?
At the bootloader screen it says Ship S-Off.
I was reading at ohter places, apparently I have reverted my recovery to the original.
I need to be able to flash a custom recovery onto the phone. I saw some people used Unrevoked but I pretty sure the software only works on some mobiles and HTC Desire HD is not on the list. Unless HTC Desire CDMA means the Desire HD
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
What happens when you leave the device to boot normally? Usually the first boot can take upto 5 minutes.
I'm guessing you have already waited that long and that will not be a solution.
IF, and that's a big if, please mind the pun, you still have ENG S-OFF you attempt a fastboot restore. But you do need ENG S-OFF.
EDIT: Ah SHIP S-OFF does no have access to fastboot commands.

Update 11/09/2011
I'm able to go to recovery mod. Have wiped both data and cache.
If I run cmd "adb devices" it shows my phone serial number + offline. Also on recovery mod the phone drivers are recognized on windows device manager.
However if I stay on the initial bootloader screen and run "adb devices" it shows no device and the drivers dont recognize my phone.
On the usb devices only shows Android 1.0.
I'm trying to get my phone online so I can run the temp root cmd commands. But it's either offline on recovery or not recognized at all on Bootloader screen. ¬¬"
Since you have cwm recovery, just full wipe and flash a custom ROM on it.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I've tried everytyhing. Flashing Clowork Mod Recovery, updating from update.zip as well clicking on the bat file.
Everywhere I get permission denied, seems like my phone is not letting me do anything. Maybe my goldcard got corrupted in the mess. I'll make a new goldcard and see how it goes.
Ah as well I've noticed this
The reason this all started was because my HTC was in a bootloop. It would load Coredroid, the initial screen would appear then it would reboot and so on.
Now even with no rooms, no sd card etc. If I leave it to boot normally, the HTC White screen will stay on then it will reboot (goes black, phone vibrates) to the same HTC white screen.
So I think it's got something hardware related, I mean it's rebooting even with no rooms.
Oh geez....
Again, thank you all very much for the support! It's been really helpful, thank you for the ideas guys!
How do you full wipe?
Manually or using script?
If using manual method, what are the steps you did?

Darren,
I went to Bootloader > Recovery > Wipe Data. Then I wiped cache as well. Note that my Recovery access is limited. It says Android system recovery 3e. And in yellow at the bottom E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command.
I also did Factory Reset from the Bootloader Screen.
I can't do any script stuff except for Fastboot commands. Even on that I get "failed" status due to my permission denied.
I really cant understand why I cannot seem to flash a new Recovery.
If I use update.zip I get a failed installation at the end.
If I use clockword mod double click on the bat file the process runs, phone reboots like it should and then nothing, still on 3e...
Did you do what this post suggested?
Download the PD98IMG_cwmrecovery.zip file and rename it to PD98IMG.zip. Put it at root and boot in hboot and update.

[Solved] Bricked HTC One X (International)

Hi guys, well I'm a new HTC One X owner and I just jumped ship from the iPhone. I had jailbroken my iPhone several times with only minor problems in the past so I thought I'd give it a try on the One X. Unfortunately, I think I've really screwed something up and now when i boot it up, it vibrates and then hangs at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So here's what I did:
I downloaded Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-In-One v.1.1 kit. I followed the instructions and as far as I could tell, everything worked fine. The bootloader was unlocked and I was able to root the phone. However, after installing a couple of apps which all crashed when I tried to run them (it made the phone restart), I decided to do a factory reset and do it again. So i held onto the power button + volume down and went into the Bootloader and tried to reset it which then took me to the CWM 5.8.4.0 screen. I then did the factory reset there which led me to where I am now.
Could someone please tell me where to proceed from here to bring it back up and running normally again? As you can probably tell, I know next to nothing about Android so I would really appreciate some patience and step by steps. I've already scoured Google looking for a solution but I could never understand what people were talking about. If you need any more information to give you a better diagnosis, please let me know and maybe tell me how to find the information
Thanks a lot people, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure exactly what you mean. By that, do you mean did I install a non-stock OS? If so, then the answer would be no. I did flash the recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 but I have a feeling that, that's not what you meant.

Thanks a lot man! Could you...please tell me how to do that? I saw a few threads discussing soft-bricks and they suggested downloading some stuff and then plugging the phone into the PC and typing some commands into cmd. But when I connect my phone into my PC i get no response, even when I'm in the Bootloader screen.
And also, does it matter which version of the official firmware i get? I saw people mentioned RUU files but it had to match my phone's version. Does this have anything to do with that?
I believe you should just plug the phone and run your factory ruu and that would do it and bring the phone back to stock.
Heres where u can get the ruu, am not sure whats the codename for the international hox but i think this is it. Please make sure you are using the correct ruu for your phone.

You should probably read up before trying this again. If you can hold the power button and volume down. It should bring you into a menu. You should press the volume down button until fast boot is highlighted and then press the power button to select it. Download htc sync and install the drivers. Go to the one x development section and download the ruu for your device. Then run the ruu.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. That link you gave me says that they are ROMs for Endeavor, is that the same as a ruu? And also, how do i figure out which ruu is right for me? I'm in Switzerland and my carrier is Orange but I see several ruus there under orange but none of them are for Switzerland and there are even different version numbers. In my current state, is there a way for me to find out which version I need?
By the way, when I try to connect my phone to my PC in fastboot mode and open cmd prompt and type in "fastboot getvar cid", i get "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." If i click Fastboot on my phone and then HBOOT whilst plugged into the PC, i get a few lines on my phone saying that it "Failed to open USB master mode" and then "please plug off USB".

okay, I didn't realise I had to install fastboot on my PC. So i just configured it following the directions here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
and now when my phone is hooked up to my PC and i type "fastboot getvar cid" into cmd prompt, i get this:
cid: None
finished. total time: 0.004s
So what does this mean?
Download an app from the marketplace and see what that comes up with. Also go into settings about phone software information then software number. What is the software number?

You are going to need to find out wich ruu version u need. I dont know how carriers identify themselves on europe. After you identify it get into the bootloader menu get on fastboot and the open the ruu you downloaded the software should do everything by itself. Btw if you do this your going back to stock that means no root no cwm or wtever you had your going to have to do everything again but at least you got the phone working. Once you identify the ruu you need i would not download the latest version just in case the carrier fixed the root method or something. Again i dont know much about how europe works and how bossy carriers are about rooting/unlocking bootloader. You can try asking on that same thread for the one you need. Someone elsr might have an answer. Good luck.
Ps. Am not sure if you are going to need to relock the bootloader in order for the ruu to run. Can someone shed some light on this?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Btw before you do that have you tried getting on the recovery??? Can you get on cwm?? If u can do that i believe there no need to flash the ruu instead just flash a different rom maybe??? Did you get to make a backup before this happened??

Thanks a lot joker96. I can get into CWM, so how would i flash a different rom? Unfortunately, the only backups I made are of my personal files and apps, I didn't think to backup anything else.

Well the thing is, I'm not 100% sure what I did. First I did a factory reset on CWM and everything worked fine, but when my phone rebooted, I realised CWM was still there. What i wanted was to go back to square one, as in no recovery and no root. So i went back into recovery and wiped some other stuff, and that's when this happened. I know, I'm a total idiot, I don't know what i was thinking
Yea a different rom to what you had maybe that one had problems. ARHD is Android Revolution HD any other rom would work though. Just pick one from the development section.

Well i just took a look at the ARHD thread and I'm stuck on the second line of instructions: "Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)"
I have no access to my SD card, when i plug it into my PC, nothing happens because all i can do is go into recovery and bootloader.
Just a question, if I try to use the wrong ruu, what would happen?

Sons HTC Desire HD stuck on white HTC Screen, Can Get into Bootloader HELP PLEASE

Hi, my son has just infromed me that his HTC DESIRE HD is stuck on the HTC white startup screen, if you take the battery out & put it back in & hold the volume key when pressing the on button you do get in to the Bootloader (i think its called that) screen but we cant go any further. The phone has been hacked & has a custom rom installed on it but he cant remember with one.
If someone could explain what i need to do to get it working again i would be very gratefull & not worried what rom goes onit.
Thanks All

Read post#7, it should have everything you need to know. If you have any questions just post them there since this is the development section.
Sent from a dream.
Insert a ROM into the SD Card! Go to the recovery through the bootloader. Full wipe and flash the new ROM! Tada
Sent from my Desire HD from Outer Space!!!
If you can get into the bootloader and the phone was on the stock ROM, you can pretty much reset it through the bootloader itself.
1. Reboot into Bootloader(Yes, the white screen with colorful text and options) by holding the Vol Down key while pressing the power button.
2. Navigate to the "Bootloader" option in that screen(Navigation can be done by pressing the Vol up/down keys) and select it(by pressing the power button).
3. You should see a screen with options like "Fastboot", "Recovery", etc.. Navigate to the "Factory Reset" option and select it by pressing the power button. Your phone should reset to factory setting and work fine(if it was on a stock ROM).
If it still doesn't work and you can get past the splashscreen into the bootanimation, I'm pretty sure you can flash an RUU. Its an executable file that installs the stock ROM on the phone. Get the appropriate one according to your region and carrier from here : http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/
Start your phone, connect it to pc via cable. Make sure you have HTC Sync installed on your pc and then run the executable RUU on the PC. The rest I think you'll be able to manage via on-screen instructions.
Hope you solve your problem.
Oh and yeah this is not the correct section though.. Please request the moderator to move it to the Q&A or the General Section. Helps keep the forum organized.

To be honest, if your son is old enough to have a smartphone and smart enough with a computer to unlock a locked boot loader, he should be able to use Google
If I was him, I would Google "unbrick desire HD" if i was stuck, but I think he could fix it by loading a ROM, maybe jelly time, that's a nice stableish ROM, onto the sdcard and try rebooting recovery by doing the power volume button combo. If he is in able to reboot recovery, only boot loader, he could try using the fast boot commands from the android SDK. If he doesn't know what they are, he shouldn't have rooted his phone, I don't recommend rooting unless you know what each piece of software you install on PC or android does.
I've had this issue as well when I installed a rom with a wrong md5 hash. It also wiped the recovery which was strange. Finally I got it working by placing the PD98IMG file on my sd card which it automatically installs when you go the bootloader. So that might fix it.

^^this^^… really though, if you're stuck, try getting into recovery from the bootloader... if he rooted his phone then more than likely he has a custom recovery installed, such as clockworkmod, twrp, 4ext, etc... from there he can flash a new ROM, wipe his device of the one causing problems, etc... just follow on screen instructions. If he doesn't have a nandroid backup made (or any kind of backup you can restore from whatsoever) then just wipe everything and install JellyTime... download the latest release (a .zip file) from the thread (search DHD, JellyTime)... transfer onto his SD card, use the custom recovery to install from the SD card, and there ya go...

ok, Just follow what Teichopsia said. Ignore the rest of the comments as they only troll and won´t solve your issue. The main thing to know is how the phone was hacked. In bootloader, in the top left corner you see something like ACE PVT.....just find if you are S-OFF or S-ON.
If you are S-ON, then tell me if it says *UNLOCKED* in the top. That will determine how you can sort your issue out. Follow the post Teichopsia suggested and you will be fine. If you have any doubts or get stuck just post your questions in that thread.

Go into HTC inspire general. First thread click it. Read it follow it. I had to do this. I tried the first step. It didn't work for me. I had to do the last step. Which was run a RUU. Once I did that my phone was back up in 5 minutes

via a card reader if you have access to one, or any device you can connect to a pc that will show card contents, that you can write to and from.

Ok, just to be sure... Did you check the md5 sum on the JellyTime-R10 zip to make sure it downloaded correctly?
And when flashing the ROM, did you follow the instructions exactly in post #7 on the procedure thread you followed to root (flashing the boot.img separately)?
If you did both of those, try downloading a different ROM and flashing it, just to see if you can get it to work. If not, try going through the root process again step by step and make sure you didn't miss anything... At this point, you make also want to consider going through one of the guides to manually s-off after unlocking with htcdev, since flashing ROMs is easier if you're s-off.

HOX bricked help to flash (no ROM in sd card)

ok i got my phone bricked since i change some fonts ¬¬ yeah its stupid but its done, my htc stays in HTC ONE X splash screen
1.- i already did wipe cache & dalvik (i dont want to try full restore yet)
2.- i cant access to the SD card to put the ROM.zip into it
any idea on how to bring it to life again?? (without losing data)
ok i did a full reset and now its showing only ANDROID label (splash screen) and thats all u.u still bricked, any idea????
is there any way to flash from PC i mean having ROM on PC i dont have it on my HTC
flash lastest clockworkmod and you can mount USB from recovery, copy rom and install as normal.
Sent from my Transformer TF101
@vorticalbox tweet me
what the latest version i got 5.8.4.0 i think this is the latest but i dont know hot to mount USB :/
Yep that's the latest version. Flash it via fastboot:
Put the recovery.img in your fastboot folder and rename it to "recovery.img", then open a command prompt and:
cd..
cd..
cd fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now extract the boot.img from the ROM you want to flash on your PC, and copy it to your fastboot folder and:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then boot into recovery and:
Go to mounts and storage
Choose Mount USB Storage
Copy ROM to your phone
Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Choose Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Reboot and enjoy
If this doesn't work, you'll have to boot into flastboot mode and run the RUU for your phone.
Either way, it's not 'BRICKED'.
Just make sure your battery doesn't go below 30% before you fix it or it will be much more difficult to recover (but not impossible).
It's impossible to totally brick an S-ON One X as whatever happens, you can always get into fastboot mode.
Guys i have problem too. I flashed boot.img with kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967897 via this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962428

Ok guys. I almost had heartattack. By holding vol down buttont and power it went into Bootloader mode. I was able to get into recovery and then used venom flasher to change back to stock kernel. Oh god... Thank you guys trying to help me
Dudes, when its stuck in start up logo doesn't mean its bricked. It's bricked when you can't turn it on or go into bootloader. Please don't use "bricked" to describe every problem you encounter please.

That is true. What's more I was stupid enough to flash kernel to totally different phone (One XL). Luckily my stupidity was spared this time.
I hope OP will repair his phone too.
Like I said, it's pretty much impossible to 'BRICK' an S-ON device.
What about If you flash a Ron intended for a different phone, doesn't this change the layout of system positions? Or I'm just being stupid and you need s-off to mess things up like that?

Flash the newest CWM Recovery. Or any recovery with that you can use the option "advanced restore". Now Backup your Rom> wipe everything> restore>advanced restore>restore data only
Here you go
Sry, can one the mods delete this post? My browser is f****** up and didn't show me there are already answers...
I think this qualifies as "bricked"
OK, I am trying to help my sister with her HTC 1X. It will not turn on whatsoever. I hold down the power button, nothing. I hold down the power and one of the volume buttons (up or down), nothing. I hold down the power button and both of the volume buttons, nothing.
I have hooked it up to my laptop because I was able to find some drivers for the device and some files that will allow me to root it, should I be able to get the phone to do anything. Anyway, the only thing I get is a message from Windows saying that the device has malfunctioned and that I should disconnect it and reconnect it or replace the device.
I've scanned through several of the threads but cannot seem to find anyone with as legitimately bricked a 1x as my sister has. I am used to rooting and ROMing Samsung devices and thought I would lend a hand by trying to help out with this HTC device but I cannot get it to even show up in MY Computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I was afraid she was going to have to send it back to HTC. What really stinks is that she's only had the phone for 35 days at this point. Started having problems a couple of days ago and ATT doesn't seem to want to do diddly.
Anyway, thanks for the response!
No worries. Pls let us know the outcome. Good luck.
