wireless tether not working, can't find the network/ssid - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have tried several versions and I cannot get my galaxy tab to find the network. My wifes WT is working fine on my old Evo, version 2.0.7.
For some reason all versions are making me choose a 14 letter ASCII password but the wt on the Evo doesn't have this requirement, I think it only requires 8 characters.
Any ideas on what can be causing this? I am on the GB Blazer rom with no mods.
Thanks

Try changing your mode to Galaxy Nexus GSM and see if that works

[Q] Wifi Tether Apks NOT Working(?)!

Yes I used the Search feature, still no satisfactory resoultion...
I have rooted several phones over the past few weeks (with different bootloaders), Evo 4Gs, one tethers, one doesn't, Droid RAZRs, both tether, Droid 3s, neither tether (I read the TBH thread, so...), E4GT neither tether (mine included but am running Phantom's Rom so no worries there).
I am at my wits end. The apk(s) used to work before, but as of late I am not having any success at all. Android Tether lists in my networks, my pc and laptop will connect, internet access is detected, they connect but NONE of my browsers are able to connect.
I never had this problem, never had to change any settings in the apk(s), and never had to change my pc(s) configuration. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone know what is going on?

Try FoxFi, free at Google Play. I had issues tethering E4GT. This app works great for Samsung & Motorola. All others, maybe Bluetooth.

Wifi Tether (Im using 3.1 beta11 pulled from Calk's ICS roms) works if you change the device profile to "Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE)". I always enable the access control and allow the pc accessing.
The hacked sprint hotspot has always worked for me on gingerbread as well i prefer it but use the other atm on ICS.
Wifi Tether wont work properly until you change it to thet CDMA/LTE Nexus it gives the same issue you describe without the change.

Ok but what are you running ICS or GB because there is an answer to both.... If you are rooted the stock wifi tether works fine so can we have a little more info although the answers you have gotten so far a pretty damn good.
Thanks
I switched to my Nexus S 4G to give the ICS ROMS a spin and really loved it but missed my E4GT so I recently switched back. I am currently on Phantom's EL26 (Gingerbread) from way back when. I found that the EL 26 modem gives me the best battery life by far and I like the debloated stock because I am running SPB SHELL 3D launcher (cracked-pm me).
I have so many Google Wifi Tether apks on my pc and dug up the wifi_tether_v3_1-pre101.apk and changed the channel to 6. It works now.
The Sprint Hotspot comes fully functional on the ROM that I am on but it was really bugging me that I couldn't get the google wifi tether to work on friends' and family's phones. There must be a bug in the newest release or something.
FIFOX said that HTC has a block on wifi tether when I tried to install it on my friend's Evo 4G.
I am going to use the TBH thread to change the radio strings on my friend's Droid 3 so he can tether. We'll see how that goes later today.
-worked like a charm; rewrote the strings with RadioCom and changed the entitleent with sqlite editor, using the most recent google wifi tether apk on chanel 6.
Thanks for all the input. I'm gonna hit the thanks button for you all.
PEACE!

[Q] Trouble with WiFi tether

I installed WiFi Tether for root users on my rooted Sprint SGS3. Based on what I read online I set the device profile to Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE).
I was able to connect to it from my laptop the first time and it worked. I tried to use it a few days later with my Transformer Prime tablet and it was unable to see the network broadcast from my phone. After many attempts at stopping and starting it and restarting WiFi on the tablet it eventually got connected.
Since then I have not been able to get any device to see the network created by WiFi Tether (3.2-beta2). I tried changing various settings (device profile, SSID, channel, enable routing fix option) and nothing got it to show up. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Phone:
Samsung Galaxy S3 for Sprint (rooted and stock rom)
Baseband L710VPLG8
Kernel 3.0.8-906128-user
Build IMM76D-L710PALG8
Hardware version: L710.14
Tablet:
Asus Transformer Prime with stock software up to date.
Laptop is a HP Windows 7 laptop with an Intel branded a/b/g wireless adapter built in.
I am able to make this version work but I selected the Samsung Galaxy S3 profile.
That is one of the device profiles I tried without success. I have read that others had similar problems but they were resolved by using the Nexus CDMA/LTE profile.
Is there another app or version of WiFi tether that works more reliably on this phone? Does this feature work reliably using a particular custom ROM?
I used the Nexus CDMA/LTE profile on an earlier version of this app (before they had a profile for the S3) and it worked, but not always. I have not had a problem with this version (3.2 beta2) with the S3 profile. I am using this on the Rooted stock LI3. I have heard that there are other apps but I have not tried them.
I used Triangle Away to reset the counter and the issue was minimized(less start and stops) to make it broadcast.
It shows like if the counter is modified the phone don't let you broadcast well.
I owe you the link to Triangle Away. But you can try. It works for me.

[Q] WiFi tether

I'm trying to use my vzw gnex to tether my nexus 10 but it's not working. Both devices are rooted. I've tried a few apps but nothing seems to work. I have tethered a Xoom and other Android phones in the past but that doesn't seem to be working any more either. Does anyone have a way to make this work, maybe a screen shot of the settings screen so I can compare mine to one that's working.? I appreciate any help I can get.

what rom has working usb tethering? i prefer cm10

USB tethering on all rom's I've tested doesn't work. windows says there's an issue with the ndis internet sharing driver. I tried Samsung driver and windows there appears to be no issues yet it doesn't work.
I even tried on my atrix cm9 neutrino rom and no go like the network adapter detects on my fresh windows 7 x64 and no go... why?
Cleanrom, recommend this for its low power drain and speed. Tether is working well, even got wallet to work. Wallet took a few hacks

I'm not sure if the rom is the problem.
I was having a tethering problem and I changed my kernel and now it works great.
Current Devices: At&t Samsung Galaxy Note, Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Asus Google Nexus 7 Super Tablet
Current Roms: Jedi XP 9 (Note 2), AOKP (Galaxy Nexus), Nexus 7 Stock
Yeah it doesn't work on my atrix or note 2 and I have yet to have anyone confirm what exact combination of rom/ kernel I need to get it to work I tried cleanrom after wiping everything it just sits at the x screen forever never boots into the android is. So right now im on jelly beer 3.35.1 and no go... Can anyone confirm how they got it working on the note 2? Wish it would work on my atrix as well running the 1.4ghz cm9 kernel on it

Thanks man but I'm on jellybeer 3.55.3 on stock kernel and no go are there any other cm10 kernels other than stock available?
What rom are u running? Exactly
Thanks
Try wifi tethering? I know it's not as fast as usb (or at least I would imagine), but it's better than nothing. I can confirm that wifi tethering works on jellybam and PA, which are both a CM 10 variant.

Galaxy tab 3 7.0 wifi direct issue

Hi, i got Galaxy Tab 3 (7.0) running android 4.1.2 and Galaxy S2 running 2.3.6 gingerbread. I was trying to connect them via wifi direct with no success. Both found each other but file transfer failed. Actually Tab was in "sending" state but SGS2 has this "loading" circle running with no result. I like having gingerbread on my S2 as it is clear, simple, fast and it doesn't drain battery. Although on my Tab I have no choice, but still not long it too much, but oh well...
Can anyone tell me if it is system incompatibility issue during wifi direct file transfer or it is something else?
I suppose I did all right, but I tried this feature for the first time. I was pushed to that because tab 3 is not compatible with "virtual cable" app.
And it is strange that both found each other but no transfer between. I read it is fast connection but why it is not working?

Problem solved! Silly me, I turned off some apps and processes and one of them was wifi direct sharing on my galaxy s2. After all everything is working fine. No different system versions incompatibility issue were involved.
It is a proof that in that matter different systems work together fine.
Topic closed. Can I click "thank" button to myself? LOL!
