Can the Epic 4g Tough support these monstrous micro sdxc cards?

I do believe 32g is the max. Not sure how big the cards you are referring to are.

Short answer: Yes, but not officially.
Long answer: It doesn't officially support it but they do work... I'm not sure if you have to format it though for the phone to read the full 64GB... I believe that with the Evo 3D you had to format it just so it could be read correctly.

I have a 64g in my phone and also in the Xoom(602). The only problem I found is with the Xoom I had to format it with the phone, no problems since. Probably best to format it in both instances.
They work up to 64gb but it needs to be formatted inorder to properly work, I'm not sure on the ET4g if it has to be formatted to xFat, fat32 or ext4. On the photon it has to be xFat or ext4 on the Evo 4g it had to be xFat or fat32. Since the et4g supports all 3 formats it may work with any of them. I have my 16gb class 10 formatted to ext4 right now, used to be xFat before I switched from my class 6 to the class 10
I know it only works up to 64gb cuz I tried the 128gb from our series 7 slate and it would only show 64gb available
We are legion, for we are many.

Has anyone tried a 64gb MicroSD in the Epic 4g yet? It seems like they work in the S2.
The cost is still ridiculous, but in a few months it should be down to a reasonable price.

The SD / microSD spec only allows up to 32 gb. Anything over that is likely SDxc, which isn't supported by the Epic.

True, but from what I understand it is limited only by software, and when formatted to FAT32 it works on the S2, Epic Touch and Evo 3D. None of which officially support SDXC.

You got me to read up a little on the format and I learned something. I guess with some clever formatting tricks and setting the proper bits in the MBR an SDXC card that supports the 3.0 standards (whatever they are) can appear to be a SDHC card and be formated FAT32. So then it seems totally OS dependent whether the phone will read a properly formated 64GB card.
I stand corrected.
Anyone tried it at your SGSII? What capacity is reported, if any?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I believe highest supported on SGII is 32 gb.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It will work. It works on all Android phones that are 2.2+.
Price is still high though.
not really, if you think about it
it's the same as you would be paying for 2x 32GB
so it's worth it if you don't want to keep removing the back cover frequently to swap SD cards
I thought that all 64gb cards were sdxc? And do our phones actually support that format?

minor correction there
SDXC vs SDHC, these are Technology terminology not format
the actual format of SDXC is ExtFAT you can see that in Linux as Extended FAT
SDHC uses the good old FAT32
so, if you want a SDXC card to work on a phone that does not read ExtFAT, you just need to format it as FAT32, and the phone will read it just fine.
most phones/tablets for the past 2 years are SDXC compatible hardware wise, software... that's just down to the kernel to see if they can support ExtFAT or not
I didnt know that, thanks. I wish I hadnt bought a 32gb card then.
The physical max supported patrition size for FAT32 is 128GB. I am ordering 64GB or 128GB card from Amazon. I have to know if tab supports it. Will share my results when it arrives.

the Kingmax 64GB ?
those are okay, they have life time warranty, they do honour them, but it takes forever
they do die (corrupt) easily, i've had to replace 2 of them of a different size
but the replacements works fine, they are still kicking around my house in cameras and stuff
so probably they just have poor QA during production.
if it works, it works great for the longest time, if not it will die in a few weeks
Indeed, I am little concerned spending on unknown brand like Kingmax which is probably some knockoff. I see lots of MiniSD cards in 64 & 128GB sizes from Transcend, Sundisk and others but nothing in microSD size. I am also tempted to get 128GB miniSD for my GalaxyTab 8.9. I wonder if this would work as well.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
that's why i got the sandisk one and paid that little extra just to know it will work without fail
Kingmax is not a knockoff, it's a good brand, but not as famous as ADATA or Transcend
those 3 pretty much started at the same time, some how Kingmax was left behind, while the other 2 is ramping up good against Sandisk and Lexar

I've been waiting for the price to drop on this card. Just giving everyone a heads up on a great deal on a fast card.
will our phones support 64gb no problem?
i saw that earlier as well, but hesitant, dont know if phone supports it or not
The phones will support it Just fine. You have to format it and Max file size is limited to just 4gigs, I believe.
Solid card, i have the 16gb version of that and the speeds are insane, def a step up from my class 4 sd card

Yes, yes, but it's still quite odd; you don't often hear about manufacturers/carriers underestimating their own devices.
In other words, has anyone actually tried filling a 64GB card to max capacity with data on the phone itself? Or is it only addressing the first 32GB like I would expect? Just because the card happens to be readable doesn't mean it's actually fully working like it should, so I'd still be wary about landing the money on a 64GB card for a phone that Sprint claims supports up to only 32GB.
If it *is* only addressing the first 32GB, then the only remotely possible option to get the full 64GB capacity is to re-partition the external SD as two 32GB (roughly; probably a little less) partitions. However, that's a *very* big "if" as to whether or not that actually works, since SD cards (and other flash-based external memory devices like USB thumbdrives) are designed (and expected) to have only one large partition. Similarly, you'd have to do some serious modding to get both partitions mounted (if the phone's card reader itself isn't the limitation).
In all likelihood, even that above solution would probably not work due to hardware/firmware limitations. This is similar to giving older computers big hard drives; even though the hard drive will certainly be usable, many older BIOSes are incapable of accessing anything beyond a certain capacity (in the case of an old Compaq laptop I have, that limit would be 10GB).
tl;dr: don't assume that the ability to mount the SD card automatically means all the space on it is accessible from the phone.
i ordered this card after seeing this thread.
it came in today.
i cant get the phone to read it.
i formatted it and tried everything.

It's never ALL accessible whether it's supported or not whether it's computer phone or any device. Making two partitions would have you lose even more space and isn't necessary, once card is formatted to FAT32 it WILL work people.

I have been thinking alot about getting a new card. But after I looked more into it 32gb is a max. I could really not use up 64 gb unless I am loading it up with my girl's Disney movies and Transformers G1 episodes.
With 16gb internal and 32gb ext. that would be more than adequate, cause most of the time i am transferring data back to my PC. Especially backups and ROMS.

64 gb works perfectly in my phone, all you have to do is format it once through and bam double the max of what the box says, the extra space is well worth it
What class SD is it? I am curious if it truely makes a difference between class 6 and class 10. Never saw any comparisons on them.

I think you misunderstood what I'm saying. Splitting into two partitions will create some overhead with additional file allocation tables and partition data, sure, but it's nothing compared to losing half of your card's capacity because the device you're using the card on isn't capable of addressing past the 32GB mark. There's a difference between "it'll work" and "it'll work correctly", and in this case that difference is 32GB of potentially-inaccessible capacity.
So, I reiterate: has anyone verified that the phone is capable of reading and writing to the entire capacity of the card? Does it recognize the card's capacity to be 64GB (or something close)? Does writing more than 32GB worth of files actually work, or does the operation fail (or worse, overwrite data)? I'll see if I can get my hands on one of these cards so I can perform this kind of test, but until someone confirms this, it would be wise to maintain some healthy skepticism, lest you buy a fancy 64GB card just to figure out that it works no better than a 32GB card.

It has been verified by a few users in this thread already as well as others. Read a bit of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799634(as long as it is an actual SanDisk card then there is no reason to worry) it will work.

Guys, be warned that SGS3 DOES NOT support UHS-1 (i.e. class 10) cards.

does not support, but it works fine if you format the card in the phone. exFAT does not work, however, so you are limited to files < 4gb in size. Kind of defeats the purpose of having such a large microsd card though
UHS1 is simply a speed classification typically used by high power cameras. C10 refers to the minimum write speed of 10mb/s.
This card will work in exfat format for stock GS3, however cwm or twrp recovery only supports fat32 which this card will format to.
I have used this card before so don't be reluctant to to purchase it.
I have been using this exact card since the date I got my GS3 (mid June). It works well with everything and never crashed. It also works with backup and restore within CWM. YMMV though. It is exFAT formatted.
Phone will format it as fat32 and all will be fine. Tested and works well.

What are you guys talking about? Have anyone actually tried this out?
I have this exact same card UHS-1 Class 10 (not the old Class 6 one) in exFat format and everything works fine in CWM and in Android.
EDIT: BTW, I formatted the card with SDFormatter on my PC, not on the phone.
S3 doesn't support UHS-1 speed but it does support exFAT format. The card itself came as exFAT, S3 won't even ask you to reformat it as FAT32. Just pop it in and everything works 100%.
Sweet, just nabbed one. I check the price every day also and was just about to post it here...beaten to the punch as usual .
ps anyone want to buy a Zune80gb heh heh
Is there a good way to utilize an "external" sd card to store apps and nandroids? It seems like the GS3 (and maybe just ICS/JB in general) is setup to use the "internal" sd for everything.

Be aware!
I bought the very same card at the beginning of the month and after 2 days of use the Card stopped working...
The card became unusable and I had to fill a claim with Amazon since the seller didn't reply to any of the emails I sent...
Just my experience guys...
I got a couple of 256GB MicroSD cards lying around and I'm curious if this will work.
Could I break it down to 4 partitions, each being 64gb (roughly - the max that this phone can handle) and would the phone read the card as 4 separate drives?
Now if this works, that would be AWESOME. However, I'm leaving tonight for Tennessee for two weeks and won't be able to try it due to hurrying to get ready =(
Anyone with experience, let me know if this is worth trying. And I always format my cards for my Optimus G Pro in exFAT. Is that good or should it be FAT32 or the other option I get (i can't remember right now)?

Any news regarding this idea? I purchased a SanDisk Ultra SDXC UHS-I to install in my LG-E980 but, have not done so yet. Can you tell me if I will be in a better position if I root the phone beforehand or not? I purchased the card primarily for video storage and playback for our kids but, I may use it for file storage as well. I am still on Android 4.4.2.
