64 GB micro SDHC Card - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Anyone tried it at your SGSII? What capacity is reported, if any?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

I believe highest supported on SGII is 32 gb.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

It will work. It works on all Android phones that are 2.2+.
Price is still high though.

not really, if you think about it
it's the same as you would be paying for 2x 32GB
so it's worth it if you don't want to keep removing the back cover frequently to swap SD cards

I thought that all 64gb cards were sdxc? And do our phones actually support that format?

minor correction there
SDXC vs SDHC, these are Technology terminology not format
the actual format of SDXC is ExtFAT you can see that in Linux as Extended FAT
SDHC uses the good old FAT32
so, if you want a SDXC card to work on a phone that does not read ExtFAT, you just need to format it as FAT32, and the phone will read it just fine.
most phones/tablets for the past 2 years are SDXC compatible hardware wise, software... that's just down to the kernel to see if they can support ExtFAT or not

I didnt know that, thanks. I wish I hadnt bought a 32gb card then.

The physical max supported patrition size for FAT32 is 128GB. I am ordering 64GB or 128GB card from Amazon. I have to know if tab supports it. Will share my results when it arrives.

the Kingmax 64GB ?
those are okay, they have life time warranty, they do honour them, but it takes forever
they do die (corrupt) easily, i've had to replace 2 of them of a different size
but the replacements works fine, they are still kicking around my house in cameras and stuff
so probably they just have poor QA during production.
if it works, it works great for the longest time, if not it will die in a few weeks

Indeed, I am little concerned spending on unknown brand like Kingmax which is probably some knockoff. I see lots of MiniSD cards in 64 & 128GB sizes from Transcend, Sundisk and others but nothing in microSD size. I am also tempted to get 128GB miniSD for my GalaxyTab 8.9. I wonder if this would work as well.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

that's why i got the sandisk one and paid that little extra just to know it will work without fail
Kingmax is not a knockoff, it's a good brand, but not as famous as ADATA or Transcend
those 3 pretty much started at the same time, some how Kingmax was left behind, while the other 2 is ramping up good against Sandisk and Lexar

32 gb sandisk

hi, i hope this is right place to put this and also to let you know i did do a search of the forum and couldn't find an answer...
i just bought a 32 gb sandisk micro sd card and inserted it into my galaxy s, i have tried to add thing to this via my pc and also via astro on my phone, each time it seems to get a little of the way and then the external sd card unmounts its self (at least i think thats whats happning ) and then i get an error on my pc saying the read/right disc was unreadeable, then my pc says that the external memory needs formatting before i can continue use, if i then go back into my phone i notice te external memory is no longer mounted, this is driving me mad, if anyone can help please do before i throw my phone out the window lol....i am using a rooted galaxy s with 8gb onboard memory
It sounds like you have a bad card. I would return it for a new one.
Let me guess, eGay. . . . .
I have 2 fakes sitting right here. . . . This is a huge scam.
Buy memory from reliable sources only.
my 16Gb card is a 1Gb in reality.
Hmmm...did you make sure that the USB mode is set to debug and then the dial up mode is off. This same thing happened to me last night. Make sure that's done. Restart the phone and THEN plug the cable in. I'm guessing it keeps flipping out and there's a red pyramid in the upper left hand corner?
Bad Memory
I believe you got a "fake" memory. I have experience of this before. A lot of programmer will be able to re-program the card from 2G to 32G or whatever the capacity they want. just google it, there is a free program will be able test it and tell you the real capacity your card has it. if the price is incrediblely low, there will be a problem. if you got it from ebay, just dispute it and get your money back.
Look for the program h2testw, it will tell you actual capacity of your card, likely 64-512mb only.
Yes, scams. You should only buy to respective shops. Sadly some of my friends bought things like 10pcs. Too bad they got scammed. I learned my lesson and it is just somehow like 3-5$ difference.
I'd say stick to Newegg and Amazon for memory purchases.

I've bought 8GB and 16GB cards from those Chinese deal sites. They worked out alright. They weren't too experience. But I agree, if you want a 32 GB card, go buy a reliable brand from a credit-worthy source.

I'd say Sandisk is the best quality memory card you can buy. Class 2 and 4 Sandisk work great for WP7 or for running Android off of on a HD2. Class 2 and 4 cards generally have a better random access speed than class 6 or 10 cards. You only want higher class cards for digital cameras where you are writing a lot of file sequentially. For running operating systems where itneedsto read small amounts of data from many parts of the card quickly, a quality class 2 or 4 card works best.

You should test the card with CrystalDiskMark and HD Tach to get the random read and write speeds and random access time. I'm curious as to how the class 10 Lexar rates in those speeds.

128GB micro sd memory card

Hi, does anyone know when microsd 64GB memory card will be in the market?
I'm assuming from the title you wanna know when a 128 sd card will be released as far as I know the galaxy s3 only supports cards up to 64gb (someone feel free to correct me) and they're out now.

128GB cards will work, as to when they'll hit the market who knows. I'm hoping no later than October-ish this year, which would be one year after the 64GB cards. I will get one at release regardless of cost and confirm they are working in various handsets for everyone. Cannot come soon enough for me, had my 64GB since a few days after they were released and just not adequate for my needs.
The Galaxy SII Skyrocket is only rated to handle a 32GB microSD card, but easily works w/64GB microSD cards also.
So I'd be willing to bet the SIII would do just fine with a 128GB card.
My wallet on the other hand... :silly:

uhs is only supported if the card reader supports this feature, sandisk also mention about this.
you can still use the same card in a non uhs compliant reader, but will only get the class 10 specification and speed.

It would be handy for people that want to play blurays either on their phone or through the HDMI out. Or for audiophiles that listen to lossless audio which takes up around 10 times the storage (which sound absolutely AMAZING with the wolfson DAC and voodoo). Or maybe they just want to never run out of storage?
A 32 gb card will only hold around 100-150 lossless songs, and an avg size mp3 you could have around 1000-1500. A HQ bluray rip avg size is around 8gb, which can only be played on SDXC because regular cards aren't formatted to allow playback of files over 4gb.

your screenshot is showing your internal memory test. If you want to test external memory then you have to pick /sdcard/external_sd instead.
To respond to OP: I got mine from Amazon, cost me 54 EUR for SanDisk UHS class1, class 10, XC I 64gb. 32gb Sammy MicroSD HC class 10 is performing a bit better for me (just a slight bit) but lacks the space, and SanDisk one is performing as a beauty here.
ps: if in need of my screens for test on Sandisk, let me know.
Is it worth getting a 64gb card for sg2?
I ask as I've seen many reviews tgat say data can be wiped as it's not suitable.
I'm in the market for a card though can't decide if 64gb would be overkill, but at same time would negate deleting old files vids etc I may need later...
Sandisk seems the way to go, any thoughts?

Depends on your need for storage space. I had 12Gb of music on 32GB one and photos and vids just zeroed it, let alone apps/games on it. I have no problem with 64GB now. I guess, it's each to his own. And if it is going to be self_wiped, then it will be my loss there, but I don't see any problem at this time, nor my microsd performs bad or has glitches.
Having SanDisk only for a month now, I can say I'm pleased how it's performing in terms of speed and stability. I can't predict what comes next but I never had any microsd breaking on me, or any problems in the past (had from 2 t o64GB microsd from SanDisk, Samsung etc... over 4 years time span).
Hope this helps a bit.

Owner of SGS2 here (visible in my sig.): If you pick /sdcard on SGS2 it's measuring internal storage (16GB one), if you change it to /sdcard/external_sd, then it's testing external microsd card. Dunno what SGS3 does and what not, it's on ICS as a base...

I just bought a sandisk 64gb sdxc. Can't wait for it to be delivered!!! $60 AUD on Shoppingsquare, which i think is good value
And now for my 2cents worth:
Is 64gb an overkill?
Yes, but that's what I said about my 16gb card 2 years ago, and now I have no space.
Besides, i envisage apps, music, videos to get bigger as it gets better in quality.
e.g. with 64gb i can afford to have lossless audio.
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.
not to mention they are now just sitting there being wasted.
Usb adapters, lik SanDisk one, FTW / then you have a "switchable" USB key...
I don't have any wasted microSDs at all, but still has 2 x 4gb, 1 x 8 gb and 1 x 16gb micros's...
Gonna put in an order for one of these. Thanks for advice!
nice!

Hi,
Storage media of any type does not 'self-zero' itself. When it is full it stops you from writing data. Think about it: Would Sandisk still be in business if it did?
A likely reason your Sd card are self-zero'ing is because you bought a counterfeit card from a shop like Amazon or Ebay.
This is very common.
What happens? The fraudster buys cheaper 4 Gb SD Cards. He then modified the SD card firmware so that it reports to the operating system that the card is actually 32Gb. The O/S formats the card (typically a quick format by writing a few blocks at the start of the card) and you start coping the data across. Regretfully when you cross the 4 Gb limit of the card you end up writing no where. Seems that the data is simply zeroed or another error appears.
There are numerous of reports about this on Amazon.
Solution:
Don't buy SD cards from Ebay.
If you buy from Amazon then ensure that you buy from Amazon and not the Amazon MarketPlace.
Finally: If it is too cheap, then there may well be something amiss ;P
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.
not to mention they are now just sitting there being wasted.
Problem
i buy de sandisk 64gb and when i tranfer files from mi pc to the sd card i got slow tranfer speeds (around 5-6 mb/s). The sd is in fat32 that possibily affects the perfomance?, when i do sd speed test from the play store i got 13mb/s write and 30mb/s read.
Also i cant achive mounting correctly on ntfs with the app from the marquet ntfs mounter which is in xda

I have 8gb of music on my phone currently, and about 250gb of movies on my external HDD with 400gb of TV series on top of that. Of course I don't watch all of these, they're mostly there just for collection, but there are some series that I do like watching in my spare time and the more options the better, right? I also want some spare memory space just in case I want to record video on my phone too. I was thinking about getting the 64GB SDXC but if the 128GB version works I will definitely be buying that.
now don't quote me on this, though it should work - I don't see why it wouldn't, since the S3 supports SDXC (and the 128GB is SDXC).

From my understanding, the galaxy s 3 only supports the micro sd sdxc up to 64gb.
But you never know it might just work.
Though, than again, there might be a reason why samsung capped it at 64. Maybe above that, it's
easier for data to be lost and or corrupt? (Just speculation and not a fact)

The term sdxc means extended capacity and has nothing to do with the physical size of the card itself.
Sdxc can be in sd size (think cameras), micro sd(our phones) and mini sd (not really used anymore)
I think the xc would start at 32gb and up. So anything 32gb or higher would be sdxc
For your phone you want a microsd.. Weather a sd, sdhc or sdxc.
As long as it's a microsd....
Google images for it so you can see what the card should look like.

Not sure if that was a hidden dart of sarcasim, but I was obviously refering to when the 128gb micro sd card becomes available as I know they aren't yet.
My guess is the phone manufactures do set limits on paper but actually have their devices capable and ready to accept (such as in this case) bigger sd cards.
I've seen this before, for example, the GALAXY SII micro sd memory acceptance was capped at a max of 32gb, but in reality was and is able to accept a 64gb micro sd card!
Well, I hope that when the 128gb micro sd card is finally released (which is just around the corner) it'll work with the GS3.
A guy can dream-----eh (*_*)
Android itself supports up to 2tb, the limitation is the sd card hardware, on cheap phones they only work with max. 16 for example.
Send from my GT-I9300 with Tapatalk
most limits (in the same hardware/tech class) are limits of TESTING not limits of COMPATIBILITY
a long time ago they designed for specific sizes but now a days they design for "class" of tech.
ie Fat16 is limited to fat 16 fat 32 is limited to fat 32 etc.. etc..
SO as long as its SDXC in theory it "should" work unless they for some reason Coded in a limit (not likely)
they say 64gb because that is what they could "test" at the time that they made the unit.
sorry

Does anyone know if the new 128GB SanDisk Extreme SDXC Class 10 works with the Galaxy S3?
They're selling them at Amazon and I was wondering if it worked with the S3 before I bought it.

Upgrade my microSD card

Looking to upgrade need more room! I have the standard 16 gig. Can I swap my 16 for a 64????
If so which card do I look for?

Yes, you can. You can get one from any of the trusted companies, just search for the one with the best price. Also make sure you get a class 6 or class 10. It's going to be expensive for a 64 GB class 6/10, but if you're going for such a high capacity card then you should definitely get one with a higher class rating. Class rating is nothing but the minimum write speed that the card can achieve. You can see the difference while transferring large files. If you get a class 2 or class 4, your write speeds will be low. Imagine transferring ~58.5 GB (which is the actual capacity you'll get with a 64 GB card) at such low speeds. It'll take forever. The microSD cards that come shipped with phones are usually class 2 or at best class 4. It's always better to get a higher class because the performance will be better, especially during large file transfers and when the phone is accessing the SD card.
According to your phone's specifications on gsmarena, it supports cards up to 64 GB, so there's no problem of compatibility.

sdhc just means it goes up to 32gb
sdxc starts at 64gb
the 64gb microsdxc will work in the s3... i got mine from amazon for like 40 bucks when it went on sale. great investment
Ok perfect. One last question....
My sgs3 is the 16 gb but after I opened it there is no card in the slot. Im guessing that means I have been using stock internal???? When I purchase a 64 gig I put that in the empty slot... will I have 64 + 16?

The Sandisk 64gb SDXC it's working well for me over the past month. I did follow the recommendations of formatting it as FAT32. The read/write speed of this card is much much faster than SDHC. Look for specials on this card. Got mine from tiger direct for $49 about a month ago shipped free. Just looked on Amazon and see the price is now $49.
That said, I have had issues with older/slower Sandisk cards failing on two occasions in the past. Sandisk will swap them out but it's a pain.

Before I read this I had already purchased the SDXC from amazon for 49$ YAY! How would one format it as fat32??

Just put the card in your phone, go to Settings>Storage and format it there. Also, the Galaxy S3 supports the exFAT format, which allows for single files larger than 4GB to be stored. Fat32 has a 4GB limitation. You can also get a card reader for your computer, put this card in it and format it just like you would do for a flash drive. You can either format it as Fat32 or exFAT, as both will work. Depends on your usage i.e. if you plan to keep files larger than 4GB (like HD movies). Since you got such a huge card I figure that's your purpose anyway, so format it as exFAT. If you're using Windows, do a quick format rather than a full format (will take forever).

There are some kernel that supports exfat. You can just flash the kernel.
Not that it matters much, or maybe it will. I bought this one for my phone, also have it in my DSLR. It's a class 10 card which means it's super fast. Allows me to record 1080p HD video on my camera with no lag. So I picked one up for my phone as well. Bit smaller storage space than what you wanted, but I have never come close to filling it.

I just ordered one of these, but from Amazon. Gotta love Amazon Prime! $28 with free 2 day shipping.
Thanks for the heads up, I've been wanting a 32gb with a good class rating for a while.
