Need to install unsecured boot and then you can root and flash custom recovery.
fastboot flash recovery 'recovery'.img
Name of recovery to be flashed is in the inverted commas and is placed in the same folder as fastboot.exe

Hi all.
I have just received my HTC ONE X on ORANGE UK. I had it unlocked and works well with other networks.
Problem I have is:
1. How can I get rid of the ORANGE UK branding?
2. Revert the software to the ORIGINAL HTC ONE X Software?
I looked thru the Q&A and didn't really find the answer i was looking for. I am a newbie as i have always had the iPhone 4S.
I presume this involves changing the ROM? How?
A Step by step guide would be brilliant.
Thanks Kindly
I believe that you will need to unlock your Bootloader at HTCDev (which will void all warranty) and follow this thread. This will allow you to install any One X ROM you want.

Unlocking the bootloader, rooting, installing a custom recovery and flashing a custom (or official unbranded) ROM will get you where you need to be...
However, if you have never rooted a phone before this one isn't the best to start on. I would recommend waiting until some of the bugs have been ironed out, like charging in fastboot, the posibility of a one click root, or a fully s-offed process.
If you can be patient, (and the bloat isn't too bad - for Orange anyway) I would recommend waiting.
I had a rooted, s-off desire on Orange, have unlocked and s-offed a bunch of various HTC phones belonging to friends, but even I'm delaying for a while to see how development pans out.
I hate sense too.
@shrubz
Hi thanks. Well I got thru the Bootloader ok. Now I am on step 9 of the recovery. I am not sure which ROM to select in step 4?

Can you help please?
I don't know which one to select as there is this one from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
HTC One X (GSM) Download Recovery & Touch Recovery
I would recommend Android Revolution HD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
Version 3.1 is the latest build with sense. I ran ARHD on my Sensation and its very stable. I'll be running it once I'm sure my device is fault free.

have you installed a custom recovery? if so move the downloaded ROM onto you one x, reboot into recovery, choose "install zip from sdcard". Then "choose zip" and point it at the zip of the rom you downloaded.

All I have done so far is the unlocked the Bootloader.

If you follow the link I posted in the 2nd post that will give you all the steps you need to prepare to flash a custom ROM, including the custom recovery image.
After that pick a ROM, I recommend ARHD, then follow the instructions in the ROM thread to flash the ROM.

Have you saved the recovery image in the fastboot folder on your computer with your fastboot files?
Try

Looks like you missed the word recovery from your command and omitted the file extension.

just to add to that make sure it is on your C drive which is easier and make a fastboot folder with all the contents of it mate..then just follow the guide i PM'd you with

Download root checker from Google play and check. If u can boot into recovery, u can flash ROMs if ur unlocked via HTCdev. And remember: Always flash boot.img extracted from the .zip file of the ROM before flashing or before first boot, otherwise u will get bootloop/stuck on splashscreen.

BTW, trust me on this as i ve tried 8 roms in past 5 days. charmeleon wins over leedroid. there are more tweaks and better battery life in charmeleon by a long run. ALSO, match any rom with faux, instant 3+ hour screen through a whole day moderate usage. BE SURE TO UNDERVOLT~ happy flashing, and may the bricks stay away from you.

Hi, i've unlocked bootloader, flashed recovery, rooted my phone now i need to get a good ROM. Can someone please tell me which is the easiest ROM to install without having to go to bootloader unlock, relock it etc...that will be a real pain in the as*.
I don't care which ROM as long as it has a better battery life than original version and solves WI-FI issues..
Thanks
First; try a better thread-name.
Second; I don't know what you mean, if you talk about unlock the bootloader again ..
If you already have done that, why would you need to do that again o0
Try IceColdJelly, it has Android 4.1(.1?), is very smooth and has a very good battery life.

In cmd (on your computer)
Flash the boot.img which you should extract out the Rom.zip you downloaded
Then flash it in fastboot.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then fastboot clear cache
Then reboot the phone :-

You need to flash the boot.img through fastboot. Put the boot.img into your fastboot folder and open a cmd window there. Then boot your phone into fastboot mode and run the commands "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot erase cache"

it tells you EVERYTHING you need to know, read through it and other guides.
you are the reason ROM flashing shouldnt be available to everyone, you should have to pass a test first to ensure you know what you are doing and not outsmarted by a tree.

Be nice, this is supposed to be a friendly community. Some people know what they're doing, some have a lot left to learn - rememeber, you were a noob once.
However, on the other hand I have to agree, there are MANY forums and threads which explain the process of flashing a rom, recovery and rooting. There is no excuse not to use your eyes and the search features. Each Rom thread also has installation/flashing guides although very basic you should read anyway to avoid a brick or any other accidents.

I am also the reason for installing CoreDroid ONE X v4.4 on my phone. mwhuahaha... for a novice, i am impressed...thanks for everybody's help, much appreciated.
I've been trying to install a custom rom on my hox and have had very little luck. I read that to install the CM10.1 rom I had to flash a new boot.img which I did successfully. when I tried to install the rom I got a different error than usual so I decided to just give up. I went ahead and did a factory reset from CWM and cleared the caches and then tried to restore my backup rom image. but when I did, it gave me an error "unable to mount sd". I was able to fix the SD problem but the method I used made me return to stock recovery and then install TWRP. This means I lost my backup of the stock rom.
I think I need to flash a stock boot.img over the one I tried to use for CM10.1 but I'm not sure.
hopefully someone can help. thanks.

to flash the boot image, I extracted the rom zip file and removed the boot image. I went into the cmd and typed "flashboot flash boot boot.img".
to flash the rom, I moved the roms zip file onto the storage of the device (drag and drop) and then went into CWM and cleared the caches, did a factory reset, and then selected the zip file to be installed.
here is a picture of the error I got when I tried to install the rom: see attachment
the error is on the second line of code in the updater-script file. other attempts to install the rom gave me an error on the first line until I read that the first line had to be deleted for it to work on the hox.

CWM might be the reason the rom installation was aborted but I just want to return to stock. the stock rom is installed, I think the only problem is that the boot image is wrong. I searched around and can't find a stock boot image. I saw some tutorials on using RUU to do a restore but it seems a lot more complicated than just flashing the stock boot image. if you think RUU is the best method, please help me pick the correct RUU.

May be it's a bad download? Download the CM rom zip again and then try to flash it! Use the latest Philz touch recovery...
1. Flash boot.img and then fastboot erase cache
2. Go to recovery and wipe everything
3. flash the rom.zip/gapps.zip and reboot!
If you still want a RUU, then post the result of fastboot getvar version-main

I think I'm just going to RUU. I google searched the hboot and radio numbers from my phone and found a thread where someone had the exact same numbers so I think it makes sense to use the same RUU. here is the info for my phone:
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.14.0002
RADIO-0.19as.32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC-boot
I tried using the 'fastboot getvar version-main' command it doesn't give me a number, it only says "version-main: " which is weird.
anyway the ruu I'm considering is called: "RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_Cingular_US_2.20.502.7_Radio_0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25L_release_271865_signed"
will that work? I think I will forever brick my phone if I use the wrong one.
