2 bars of LTE or 2 bars of 3g? those are 2 different signals being sent out.

Using AdFree (an awesome ad blocker) and Titanium Backup (a great app to backup all apps and corresponding data) are reasons enough to make me root.
rooting really isnt going to help battery on a lte phone as much. But you still get all the other benefits.

Rooting isn't going to magically make your phone use less battery, but there are some tweaks you can do with root to save some juice. Off the top of my head you could underclock the CPU or adjust the auto-brightness levels.
Having said that there are a lot of other (less dangerous) ways you can conserve the battery without needing root at all.

well if you were like me who powered up the phone without charging cause the excitement, you need to root your phone so you could wipe the battery stat and start over. Root is the only way to do that.

My phone is a epic 4g touch. I love this rom btw.ive flashed and tried evry rom there is to flash. And by far it is the best imo..... so mad props to strongsteve.
I have a question,or maybe an issue. I dont know. My 3g icon stays up there were its suppose to stay, but when i make a phone call the icon disappears... WHY?? Am i losing 3g? Or is that some kinda deal that is suppose to happen? If im not losing 3g,then no biggie. If i am,do i flash another modem, kernel etc...? Thanx in advance guys.

No, you're not losing 3g. The 3g icon has magically disappeared since build 1. All is well in the world of strongsteve.
I don't know if this is in general or not but I have a theory. With 3g on, you cannot surf the web and talk at the same time. When you're on the phone with a call, its using the cdma side of the phone (for phone calls). 3g is the data side. They aren't the same thing. I just confirmed something with wifi on. I made a call and tried to surf the net at the same time and it worked. The bars signal strength is for the phone and the 1x/3g is for data in which there isn't a separate signal strength meter for that.

I got to admit it is sometimes hard to grasp the concept that people do not know some of these what most would call "simple" things. Quite simply your voice and internet are both on the same network. So your phone simply removes the 3g icon when you surf the web since both can not operate at the same time on Sprints Network. Now in a GSM(Tmobile, At&T) world voice and data do not share the same "lane" and can co exist.
I understand others who say its not there lifes goal to understand everything bout phones but to some of us if you are flashing and rooting we expected a certain amount of knowledge in phone matters... So I understand fully master's response...
Hope I cleared it up for you...

. How to root and flash are layed out fairly simple. Not how the 'lanes' work. Im a diesel mech,i call rebuilding a tranny simple. So if you do somthing as simple as changing your own oil,i would expect you to know how to also install a starter?
If i did spend more time messing with my phone,i would kno this. But i dont. This is a site for help, even if its a noob question, why tear a 'noob' a new one for not knowing? A simple answer would suffice.

It's because Sprint's 3G network can not simultaneously keep 3G active while in a phone call, so the phone puts itself into 1x (and lets the phone user know that 3G is no longer active.) After the phone call, the 3G icon will reappear. When Sprint's LTE network hits, this will no longer be a problem.

Were you traveling through low signal areas? If so that's probably the culprit, your Epic is working extra hard to keep a signal... or maybe the areas you were traveling through were having problems (updating as they call it, lol) with the network...
YES LOL, So what should i do? i use it for work and really cant turn it off i need my updates or messages ASAP, but if im in a low service area should i turn off the data or the network? is there any way to limit it so it can b left on but search so much it overheats?? Thanks!

You could always try different modems... and if you're running cm7/9/10 or any variant of those you can try out the nexuz 4g modems... check out development to read about your options further... haven't had a dropped call since switching to the crespo4g modems... if it don't help, you can always switch back....

My phone does this too....when I'm in the movie theatre or in a classroom...Phone gets extremely hot and you can literally see the battery percentage drop....I just put it in airplane mode....sucks that this is the only way to stop this.
Edit: Actually starting using Miui 2.3.9 Gingerbread and it didn't overheat!!!!! Will be using this for awhile!!!!!

Hi there, I just pick my Note 2 yesterday and coming from the EVO LTE there are some PROS and also some CONS
but first... my dang WIFI keeps on turning on by itself... I have to be turning it off at least every 20 minutes i don't want it to kill my battery...
anybody else having this issue?
PROS
Bigger screen, not necessarily better
Way faster Multi tasking is great
Camera is really fast
I CAN DRAW =)
I can set a 5x5 Rosie and still look with plenty space
LOOOVE the stock keyboard... i can swipe in 2 languages with out having to switch and also access numbers without having to switch to SYM
CONS
no data and voice at the same time (really miss this feature)
poor signal
less handeable (until you get use to it)
Not otterbox support yet =(
I dont know... Overall im happy with it, but i have been a HTC fanboy for 6 years... this is just different... but its a process...

Many thanks.
I had my wi fi just turn on by itself a lot too. I'm in an area at work where i have a low signal and my 3G goes in and out.. I also have a wifi hotspot on so maybe that's why. It would turn on the WiFi when my 3G would disappear.
Thanks for the tip!
On a related note I am pleased with the Wifi strength on this device. Far superior to the gnex. Also, signal strength seems okay on the cellular side. My office is a borderline no service area, if a phone is truly bad it will drop calls. No dropped calls yet for me with the note.

Hey everyone, I have a question about T-Mobile Wifi Calling feature. When it works, it is really great but sometimes when I answer the phone either I can't hear them or the caller can't hear me but I can hear them. My Wifi signal is really good but why does this happen? It seems like a pretty common problem and when I searched for solution, there were many but none that really works 100%.
Is there any remedy for this issue?
Yea I have the same exact problem. It's really annoying.
I'm seeing the same issues myself. Hopefully the update with multi-window will address this. I remember my Wifi calling being much more reliable on my Galaxy S from 2 years ago.

Am I suppose to set the router certain way to get this working 100%? I went to T Mobile store today and I only made fool out myself. When it was connected to store Wifi, I just couldn't recreate the issue but as soon as I get home it goes all wrong!

Have you logged into your tmo account online and set your 911 address? This seems to have made a huge improvement for my wife's phone but also somewhat on mine from the looks of it. Still not 100% but at least it works most of the time.

yeah, i had to put my address there first to get the Wifi-Calling feature going. Doesn't seem to be much of different on my part though
So many problems with Wifi-Calling feature...
- One way Audio (either caller can't hear me or I can't hear them)
- Text/MMS not coming in or out
- Phone Calls doesn't go through, phone doesn't even ring... when it does ring and I pick up, phone freezes at the answering screen!
WTF! so unreliable... what a mistake switching to T-Mobile was. AT&T was over charging the heck out of me but at least I had no service problems, I'm not sure if cheaper plan is worth going through this.

Only real solution is to turn off the Wi-Fi calling feature for now. It's pretty much a hit or miss if it will work on a daily basis.

The problem is that this may be a Samsung phone problem, so nothing a tmobile tech can help you with currently. As others have mentioned, using older phones or other brand of smartphones seems to work with Wi-Fi calling. Most problems were reported from using a Samsung Galaxy s3/Galaxy note 2.
