A lot of 4g phones dont let you or error on it.
Plus, its a nexus phone, of course you should root it.

got you thanks

Using AdFree (an awesome ad blocker) and Titanium Backup (a great app to backup all apps and corresponding data) are reasons enough to make me root.

rooting really isnt going to help battery on a lte phone as much. But you still get all the other benefits.

Rooting isn't going to magically make your phone use less battery, but there are some tweaks you can do with root to save some juice. Off the top of my head you could underclock the CPU or adjust the auto-brightness levels.
Having said that there are a lot of other (less dangerous) ways you can conserve the battery without needing root at all.

well if you were like me who powered up the phone without charging cause the excitement, you need to root your phone so you could wipe the battery stat and start over. Root is the only way to do that.

No problems rooting, but there are some who are blaming rooted kernels for sporadic loss of service, while others aren't experiencing that at all.

THANKS sent your way for that line alone.
I forget how I talked my girl into letting me root her Evo. I think it was for Apps2SD and to open up more space for apps, obviously, that is no longer an issue. Unfortunately, she won't give up Sense. I had her try out cyanogen for a day and she made me flash her back to FreshROM.
It's funny though, I really couldn't find a true NEED to root this phone. It's pretty damn good stock. But that lasted about 10 minutes after root was achieved. Hate that bloatware!
If she don't need out don't do it. I rooted my dads evo bc he travels a lot and wanted wifi tether to his laptop. I didn't root my moms photon or sisters evo bc they don't really need
it.

Some apps are so useful, they are almost necessary.
Roam Control - allows you to roam in an area with weak sprint signal - so weak that it's either constantly switching between 3g and 1x (huge battery drain), or even weaker, when it switches between sprint and a roaming carrier (dropped phone calls plus battery drain.)
By forcing a Roam Only mode, with a push of a button, you start roaming, usually with a strong signal from the other carrier and there's neither battery drain nor dropped calls.

No, Sammy allowed us to remove about 15% of the crapware. With root, I can remove the other 85%.

My wife has had 2 rooted phones now, the first was the hero which got rooted and flashed (cyanogenmod) to gain performance (its a dog with the stock ROM) and get the latest version of android.
She recently upgraded to the Evo and the only way she would let me root her phone and go back to cyanogenmod was if i could replicate the sense calendar widget which she loved (full month view). I ended up finding an app called calwidet from egg n stone which shows an agenda style widget but clicking on it takes you straight to google calendar with the familiar month view she was used to. So far so good.
I have my wife's phone running a stock rom that's rooted only. For her it's just about running apps that either require or work better with superuser permission... like widgetlocker, adfree, etc. It's also useful for removing alot of the crap that comes preinstalled.
I like keeping her phone stock and stable. It's not like she has a crappy phone that I need to hack to make it work right...

i wanna take my phone into sprint..but

battery is horrible, connection to internet/facebook app on fd19 sucks, reception sucks..but odin counts at like 4..
instead of buying the jig.. last time i bricked my phone they couldnt even access odin or nething it just kept staying in a boot. and i just told them my phone told me to update the firmware and i didnt feel like waiting for it to finish so i turned it off and it bricked.. and they were cool and gave me a new phone.. so my question is how can i brick my phone so they cant see the odin screen..or should i just buy the usb jig and flash back to stock?n and what even is the latest stock?

They don't care if it's rooted but having had a custom ROM on it they don't like. And it seems like they've been getting pickier the last 6 months or so. It's always hit or miss doing that. Just spend the couple bucks on a jig.

Yea, imo its not worth trading one of the best devices on the market.. if you're not getting very good battery life on a certain setup, just flash back to blazer4.1
As far as the reception goes, why would a different phone get you better reception in the same area? You would think that if your epic touch gets poor reception, all others would be in the same boat, no?

most people get between 4-5 hrs of screen ON time, this has nothing to do with ur gnex, it's related to an app u have, try to locate it and uninstall, or mail the developer about the issues u're getting with it.
you have bad signal and your apps are keeping the phone awake.
You can't seriously blame the phone for what is user error.
Your apps are what's causing the massive drain and unless you do away with the apps causing this drain, your battery life will always seem crap. I suggest you uninstall KTREweather and find a weather app/widget that's more reliable.
I take it it's this app you're using? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rdHJlLmFuZHJvaWQud2VhdGhlciJd
Judging by its features, I'm not suprised it kills your battery. Live radar and storm tracking? Who needs that?
You have serious drain from awake apps, and looks like you're doing a lot of streaming radio/music? And your signal is absolutely terrible. All of these together will absolutely drain your battery.
use this free app called diagnosis to figure out which apps or processes are causing you trouble https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.diagnosis&hl=en

[Q] Should I bother activating my Note 4?

I just got my Verizon Note 4 in the mail today and realized that no one has yet to find a way to root it. Right now I'm using my rooted Verizon Note 2. I'm wondering if I should even bother activating my Note 4 and start using it or should I just hold off and hope someone finds a way to root it in the near future.
What do you guys think?
It's nothing what we think, do what you feel you want. We aren't using the phone, you are, it's ultimately up to you on what you feel you want.
Can you use a phone without root? Can you live without it? Then use the note 4

I came from the note 2 as well and was also disappointed to hear that root has not been achieved yet. To cope I installed nova launcher and tried to tone down touch wiz as much as possible, which has helped tremendously in my opinion. Even without root this phone is ridiculously fast and has insane battery life compared to the note 2. I can go nearly a week with 7 hours of screen on time without charging it using the stock battery. This phone is amazing even without root access, but when it does finally get rooted it will destroy everything else on the market.

Shoot, in ultra-powersaving mode you could probably make it almost 2 weeks!
As was said, do what you feel is best. I can live without root, but I don't like it personally. However, it is STILL even WITHOUT root, better than my Note 3, which I still have. I love my Note 4. Admittedly though, I've got it up for sale to see if I can get any biters to try and mitigate the cost of a developer edition. Either way, I can't wait for that root.

Well I guess my main concern is whether I'm going to get hit with an OTA update without realizing it then find out I can't root anymore. As of now, if I start using the phone with stock kit kat 4.4.4 I should be okay right? I guess worse case scenario I'd just have to reinstall all my apps when the Note 4 root comes out.
So maybe my safest bet is to start using the Note 4 but make sure I keep it at kit kat 4.4.4 the whole time?

The n4 is the best un-rooted device I have ever owned. With Nova and turned off bloat, this phone is awesome. I haven't regretted buying this phone and it will last me a long time. Good luck

Seconded, I just got my DE
Since Samsung went with a non removable battery and no SD slot with the S6. This could possibly be the last phone with an removable battery and SD slot.
Don't activate it send it back and get a nexus 6 if you want a unlocked bootloader and roms

Yeah that's true. I won't necessarily need to control my cpu speed with setcpu since the Note 4 has 2 power saving modes. There are some older versions of apps I'd like to restore with Titanium backup, and some I'd like to delete with the same program but I guess I can wait until root comes out to do that. I'm gonna miss not having the Freedom app but I'll live.
I do want to install the older version of google maps, the one that had the navigation icon, can I still do that without root?

I looked into the nexus 6. The note 4 still seems like a better phone and the Nexus 6 isn't available for Verizon yet.
Of course if I got the DE version of the Note 4 I'd be set but I really don't feel like dropping $700 on the phone. I just spend $300 to get this with my upgrade.
You know the answer, how important is root to you? If I had known root likely wasn't coming unlike my other notes, I might have waited. It's worth the extra for the de. The camera is amazing, everything works fine, but it's hampered by stock twiz and only you know what that's worth to you.
Root would be amazing. Yes. But this phone is still a beast even without it. Yes I'd love to gain root. Until then I gladly use mine without root.
