Looks like user error to me. There are a lot of times that your phone is awake and the screen isn't even on. Your apps are what is killing your battery life.

most people get between 4-5 hrs of screen ON time, this has nothing to do with ur gnex, it's related to an app u have, try to locate it and uninstall, or mail the developer about the issues u're getting with it.
you have bad signal and your apps are keeping the phone awake.
You can't seriously blame the phone for what is user error.
Your apps are what's causing the massive drain and unless you do away with the apps causing this drain, your battery life will always seem crap. I suggest you uninstall KTREweather and find a weather app/widget that's more reliable.
I take it it's this app you're using? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rdHJlLmFuZHJvaWQud2VhdGhlciJd
Judging by its features, I'm not suprised it kills your battery. Live radar and storm tracking? Who needs that?
You have serious drain from awake apps, and looks like you're doing a lot of streaming radio/music? And your signal is absolutely terrible. All of these together will absolutely drain your battery.

generally, i dont let anything run on my phone that i dont want it to run. if you have root, there is a good app called autostarts that lets pick what app you want to start up when the phone boots. only when you actually open that app itll start up https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&hl=en

Tbh I let Android do all of the app management. I also only install apps that I'm going to use as well as keeping them running to a minimum in the background.
If you don't like the battery life buy a bigger battery.

Why do people keep saying this ****? Get apps that don't eat your battery. Until then, don't try to claim someone else is wrong.

I just want to make sure that this battery life looks reasonable. A good portion of these images were taken yesterday, and I wasn't really messing with my device all that much, as I was doing a lot of work.
Thanks for your help, I will try to get some better detailed descriptions per image next time I am almost down to no battery.
Nope. It doesnt really. Gtalk is keeping your phone awake a lot.

I don't necessarily agree with the Gtalk issue but I do notice two problems.
First of all, you only had signal 60% of the time (?) and you are using Facebook. I would disable the facebook app or remove it since it's notorious for causing severe battery drain (at least for now). If you're in a low signal environment, you won't be able to really judge battery life very well since the phone is expending a lot of energy trying to maintain or look for a signal.
I read somewhere that gtalk eats up a lot of battery? aint it so?

Its possible. I can't tell from the logs he posted if it was causing problems. Its one of the apps that I freeze or delete cuz I don't plan to ever use it.

Unfortunately, Facebook is a must, all of the notification settings and geo-location stuff is disabled. I gotta be addicted to something right? I have contemplated deleting my account, so when that happens the app will be removed.
Gtalk is now frozen.
Low signal, I can't really help, I work in a brick building.
That isn't very good battery life it also depends on how much you were using it.
Bump added pictures for the past two days worth of battery stats.
I tried having Google Talk disabled for two days, didn't seem to decrease the awake counts.
So I tried uninstalling it, still doesn't seem to have helped at all.
Today, I may have used the phone for an hour and a half maybe. Beyond that, I haven't really used it.
Hi,
I have been having a problem of battery.
1. Battery dies from being 100% overnight.
2. Phone randomly shuts itself having more than 40% battery but shows 0 battery when it restarts.
3. Phone restarts quite frequently when taking a picture. (once a week)
Please let me know what should I do to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

I've got the same drain problem as your number 1, but not the other 2 issues. The funny thing is it only started a week or so ago, before that it was fine. I've been running the Viper rom, and Faux kernel without a hitch for over a month up until now.
I used to get a day out of the battery, and 2.5-3 hour screen on which was fine IMO, but not anymore.
I'm wondering if a recent app update has caused the issue, just speculating though, also it seems to be that the drain is happening when I'm not using the phone, when I do use the handset for whatever it uses the battery as normal.
Not trying to hijack your thread, just thought I'd give my two pennies worth as I'm having a similar problem.

You seem to have a lot of applications running and something is keeping your phone awake. Any awake time when the screen isn't on also is an application using your phone.
Go to the play store and check the permissions of your downloaded apps, any app that has the permission to keep your device awake is a candidate for your problem. Uninstall them all and your problem should be gone, re-install one by one and see when it returns.
Regards
Phil

Also, don't stick them altogether into one pic, the board shrinks it massively. Just upload them individually

Looks like it's the radio causing the majority of your drain. How is the signal in your location? I see you've switched from EDGE to 3G during the screenshots... if the 3G signal isn't great then it will cause battery drain searching. It might be worth forcing your phone to either 2G or 3G only and seeing what happens.

Actually I just switched to 3g in the last couple of days. I only had 2G previously and the problem still occurred. Its funny that it happens only at night.
I think its the time for a fresh start. Format your phone and start all over.
So, how much will it takes you? Less than 3 hours? I'd say go for it.
At lest it would give you less headache and hopefully more battery.
Good Luck
I've had this problem before too, with baseband and alarm wakelocks.
Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23893234&postcount=2
Then I think I just googled the offending process and found a solution there
I'm about 3 months in and its already running terribly. Totally stock. I mean I can't be the only person that had these issues Haha. This is my 4th Android phone since the G1. I've rooted and tried tons of custom ROMs on all of them except this one so far. Every time whether its stock or a ROM I get to the couple week or couple month point (never more than 3 months) and boom... lag, freezing, reboots, more lag, more freezing.
Do I just suck at owning an Android phone? The only thing I can think of that I might be doing "wrong" is having lots of apps/games installed but what good is a smartphone if you can't have a lot of apps/games installed?
I have 3 active widgets. A live wallpaper but I've tried getting rid of it and things are no better. A 64gb SD card that's mostly empty. 1-2gb internal storage free at any given time (I try to go through and delete games I'm never gonna play at least once in a while).
Battery life is abysmal. Like i said tons of freezing. Sometimes getting from my home screen to the dialer can take like a solid 10 seconds. Chrome freezes up constantly where nothing will happen for like 10-15 seconds. And today I just started getting random reboots.
Any thoughts or suggestions. I'm gonna try that carbon app to backup my game save data soon so I can bother myself with a restore but its gonna be a real pain and I just really hope it makes a difference.
Thanks for your thoughts
Dave

A lemon huh? Do phones start working amazing then work horrible if theyre lemons? I might really consider it. Since I'm in Vegas I might as well wait and see if I can get the upcoming LTE version.
I suppose it was mostly a rant. I can move it when I get home (out on the phone now).

I commiserate. I really do. But, with the 2 in my possession I've kept for a long time there just aren't issues like that.
The g1 was first smartphone, too.
If I recall buying a new battery and doing tune ups (new software/apps), clearing the cache, etc. helped back then. And probably would, now.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Since it's working fine for a time, I'm going to say it's a software issue. Do you have Lookout (the security app)? It's either a poorly coded app or a malicious one. Can we see some of those battery stats?
have you tried removing the games from your phone?
I don't have lookout. Should I check it out?
And like I said, removing my games kinda defeats the purpose of having this big awesome smartphone. Although I do delete games on a regular basis...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Did you update from ICS to JB without wiping? My wife's s3 (bone stock) had the same stuff going on after updating. It was all resolved with a factory reset.
It could also be other things.. Such as a rogue app eating up your ram.
Removing the games isn't supposed to be permanent. Just to help troubleshoot. Still haven't seen your battery stats. And yes, get Lookout, it's free.
Not sure which info you need to see regarding battery but heres a screenshot. Gonna check out lookout now. Also keep in mind leg/freezing is definitely more the issue than battery. Battery is terrible lately but I can live with that since I have chargers in every room, car, work, and one of those recharger packs haha
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I think it's likely that the two are part of the same problem. Get Lookout and run a scan. Also, pick up the free version of GSam Battery Monitor and see if that can provide any clues.
If you aren't using Maps, disable it. Likes to eat battery when it shouldn't even be running. I use Titanium Backup to make an enable/disable widget for Maps and Google Play Music. GPS will work fine without Maps. Don't need it.
Also, do a battery pull. If the battery isn't seated properly, it can cause atrocious life. Didn't think that could happen... until I saw it happen.
So the main lookout app found no issues but the lookout ad detector found 4 collect location information and 11 collect network information apps. I'm gonna go through them tomorrow. Some from a quick look are big games I play daily which obviously I dont want to remove but I'm sure that some I can.

I do tend to use maps almost every day so not sure if I should disable it. Then again it does seem to run CONSTANTLY which i always found kinda ridiculous. Also I use play music every day but not the widget.

I guess im gonna try out carbon to back up my game data and see what I can do. It just really sucks if it turns out the issue is that a 16gb smart phone can't really store a lot of games. What a waste. Might as well carry an iPod touch and a flip phone Haha.

In my opinion this is a thing that has been on Android (and sometimes Windows and iOS) phones since day 1. Specifically that some people randomly get very poor battery, especially standby battery, which most people are fine. It's a problem with a huge number of unknown causes and few solutions. My recommendation is always - do a hard full system wipe. The three or four times it's happened to me, this was the solution.
With the lack of information you gave there are so many reasons your phone's battery could be sucking now. I suggest doing some research and digging through XDA or some other nerdy site. I don't mean this to sound bad, but figure it out on your own. If you find something that works, share it here.
I went from 4h SOT to 2h SOT after the update same or less usage
Are u rooted? Without root it's pretty hard to do much. First thing u need is data. Find out what is using too much batt. You can use the battery section in settings to get clues. If u have root you can get even more info/data. Once u find the app or process responsible then u can drop the hammer on it.
