Hi there, I just pick my Note 2 yesterday and coming from the EVO LTE there are some PROS and also some CONS
but first... my dang WIFI keeps on turning on by itself... I have to be turning it off at least every 20 minutes i don't want it to kill my battery...
anybody else having this issue?
PROS
Bigger screen, not necessarily better
Way faster Multi tasking is great
Camera is really fast
I CAN DRAW =)
I can set a 5x5 Rosie and still look with plenty space
LOOOVE the stock keyboard... i can swipe in 2 languages with out having to switch and also access numbers without having to switch to SYM
CONS
no data and voice at the same time (really miss this feature)
poor signal
less handeable (until you get use to it)
Not otterbox support yet =(
I dont know... Overall im happy with it, but i have been a HTC fanboy for 6 years... this is just different... but its a process...

elculito, can you go into more detail?
What signal? GPS, 3g, LTE?
Many thanks.
I had my wi fi just turn on by itself a lot too. I'm in an area at work where i have a low signal and my 3G goes in and out.. I also have a wifi hotspot on so maybe that's why. It would turn on the WiFi when my 3G would disappear.
Thanks for the tip!
On a related note I am pleased with the Wifi strength on this device. Far superior to the gnex. Also, signal strength seems okay on the cellular side. My office is a borderline no service area, if a phone is truly bad it will drop calls. No dropped calls yet for me with the note.

Otterbox has both Defenders and Commuters in the works- even in a couple different colors. They should be available very soon.

Hi All,
I found a great app to BOOST your signal on your rooted NEXUS.
It is called Fresh Networks!
I use my phone in my office and I was getting 3g (I am in a strong 4g area) and 1 or 2 bars on my signal strength.
After I installed this app....I am now getting SOLID 4g signal and between 3 and 4 bars.
Try it and report back!!
There is a free and paid version...I am using the free one....after I try it for a day or so...I will upgrade to the paid version.
what exactly is this app doing to "boost" signal strength?
This app turns airplane mode on and off.

Go look at the app. Over 1,100 reviews at 5 stars. I think it can be deemed safe....
Update: Yep I'm getting 2-3 bars in office where I only got 1-2 on my Droid Charge. It works at least a little bit.
yeah just plays with airplane mode, kinda anticlimatic. You can do this on your own with settings or a widget
i had much less luck with the app than the op. i attached a before and after. had 4g before and 1x after, which i waited 5 minutes after running to take the screen shot. 10 minutes later i'm right back to where i was before.
looks like just a network refresh app.
sorry for having to post pics as attachments, i'm a nub
Yeah didn't really do anything more for me than I can do myself toggling airplane mode.
Ok sorry guys....it helped me,,,,,,
getting solid 4g now and 3-4 bars of signal strength.....
oh well...I tried
what's next? an app that boosts your wifi by turning it on and off? Or maybe something that enhances your good looks or boosts your magical powers... someone surely thought of that. -mix

Were you traveling through low signal areas? If so that's probably the culprit, your Epic is working extra hard to keep a signal... or maybe the areas you were traveling through were having problems (updating as they call it, lol) with the network...
YES LOL, So what should i do? i use it for work and really cant turn it off i need my updates or messages ASAP, but if im in a low service area should i turn off the data or the network? is there any way to limit it so it can b left on but search so much it overheats?? Thanks!

You could always try different modems... and if you're running cm7/9/10 or any variant of those you can try out the nexuz 4g modems... check out development to read about your options further... haven't had a dropped call since switching to the crespo4g modems... if it don't help, you can always switch back....
Does your epic sit in the sun while you're riding around?

My phone does this too....when I'm in the movie theatre or in a classroom...Phone gets extremely hot and you can literally see the battery percentage drop....I just put it in airplane mode....sucks that this is the only way to stop this.
Edit: Actually starting using Miui 2.3.9 Gingerbread and it didn't overheat!!!!! Will be using this for awhile!!!!!

Hey everyone, I have a question about T-Mobile Wifi Calling feature. When it works, it is really great but sometimes when I answer the phone either I can't hear them or the caller can't hear me but I can hear them. My Wifi signal is really good but why does this happen? It seems like a pretty common problem and when I searched for solution, there were many but none that really works 100%.
Is there any remedy for this issue?
Yea I have the same exact problem. It's really annoying.
I'm seeing the same issues myself. Hopefully the update with multi-window will address this. I remember my Wifi calling being much more reliable on my Galaxy S from 2 years ago.

Agreed. and wifi calling on my wife's Sensation works flawlessly all the time. Sad thing is I absolutely need it at home. no cell coverage at all.
my s3 and my n2 used to do that but I have the dual router and when I switched from G to N signal the issue was solved.

I have Cisco E3000 and I used the 5Ghz band.
Am I suppose to set the router certain way to get this working 100%? I went to T Mobile store today and I only made fool out myself. When it was connected to store Wifi, I just couldn't recreate the issue but as soon as I get home it goes all wrong!

Have you logged into your tmo account online and set your 911 address? This seems to have made a huge improvement for my wife's phone but also somewhat on mine from the looks of it. Still not 100% but at least it works most of the time.

yeah, i had to put my address there first to get the Wifi-Calling feature going. Doesn't seem to be much of different on my part though
So many problems with Wifi-Calling feature...
- One way Audio (either caller can't hear me or I can't hear them)
- Text/MMS not coming in or out
- Phone Calls doesn't go through, phone doesn't even ring... when it does ring and I pick up, phone freezes at the answering screen!
WTF! so unreliable... what a mistake switching to T-Mobile was. AT&T was over charging the heck out of me but at least I had no service problems, I'm not sure if cheaper plan is worth going through this.

Only real solution is to turn off the Wi-Fi calling feature for now. It's pretty much a hit or miss if it will work on a daily basis.

The problem is that this may be a Samsung phone problem, so nothing a tmobile tech can help you with currently. As others have mentioned, using older phones or other brand of smartphones seems to work with Wi-Fi calling. Most problems were reported from using a Samsung Galaxy s3/Galaxy note 2.

I have been having a lot of problems with my new honey, namely in the signal department! I went through a whole thing with it right after activation...it worked, then didn't, then did...etc. A chat session, phone call, & 2 trip to the actual store (all in 1 day!) resulted in them doing a factory reset and sending me on my looney way. It seemed to have helped, for about a day and a half. Now it is dropping signal again! It seems to do so, sometimes, when I have the wifi on. But then sometimes not (I'm not sure if wifi is culprit or coincidence.)
The ATT store employees said I may have changed a setting (I'm sure I didn't as I don't know of any setting that would even cause that!) and also "explained" my signal will naturally fluctuate...(They think I am an idiot, obviously and of course the phone was working fine when I was there...duh!) They also gave me a new sim card.
I *really* want to love this phone! But I'm finding it frustratingly undependable. Texts won't send when I need them to. I'm not getting them either, always. Voice is hit or miss when it drops (sometimes it works, sometimes not.) I have ALSO noticed the signal is not as strong as my old beloved Cappy. That thing was a horse (and I'm thinking of going back to it if this new one doesn't wise up!) Seriously, $300 bucks for a brand new phone & it can't keep a proper signal?
Is it the radio? Is it the software (still 100% stock, unrooted)? Should I make them give me a new one? What if it doesn't work, either? Flashing it to fix the issue is fine for me, but I've been holding out for multi-view before I get flash-crazy. lol Not to mention I may have to return it so better to not mess with it [yet]. I'm very frustrated & tired of getting looked upon like I'm the typical woman idiot who is not as smart as her new smartphone!!! I am NOT imagining it!!!

Sounds like your antennae is shorting out or something like it wasn't soldered properly or the cable isn't secure. Would explain why WiFi affects it. I'd go there and demand a replacement and if they don't wanna budge your within 30 day no questions return. Then go to a diff store and get a new one. I really don't see it being a software issue.

Is it possible that whatever the problem was, it miraculously resolved itself? I had it drop signal two more times since this post, then nothing since. It's been working perfectly. I hate to keep it if it might arise again but I hate to return it if it was some weird fluke thing.
This may or may not be related to the above problem: has anyone noticed their reception is not as good as on a previous device? I had a Cappy and it always got great signal. I noticed this one is not as strong in the same places I previously visited with my old phone. Although admittedly, it seems to be improving. Does that even make sense or is even possible? Just like me, my phone has to be the goofball of the bunch!

Nope. I've done nothing because I'm having this returning debate. lol I'm itching to though!
This is classic "my car doesn't work so take it to the garage then it works fine and they will make fun of you" If I do return it what do I say? It is documented about my "troubles" as per the ATT phone rep. Though if I can't reproduce the problem they're just going to send me on my way, I'm afraid.

You spent enough money on the device, you should be absolutely happy with it, not apprehensive. If you wait past the return date, it's going to sit in the pit of your stomach for 20 months and ruin your enjoyment of it until you can upgrade again. Not worth it. Smile your brightest smile, walk into the store, very nicely tell them that you've had multiple issues and the AT&T phone reps said to go in and ask for an exchange. That's it. They're going to count on you being intimidated and going away. Smile, be nice, and don't be intimidated.
If they say you have to reproduce the problem, invite them to spend the day with you. The Note 2 is amazing and you shouldn't settle if you believe your hardware is having problems.

Yes. I have decided to take it in later today, as my 14 days is up on Friday. I hope they have stock of them. Anyhow...I have another question. If a phone is sitting still with no movement (and the weather is good, lol) will there be variations in signal strength? I get 3 bars with 4G showing, then it drops to one tiny bar. Sometimes the 4G disappears then reappears. The it will go back up to 4 bars. All in the course 5 minutes! I do realize signal will vary with movement but will it if your phone is just sitting there?
I am trying to experiment a little. I just realized/remembered that I had (uneventfully) dropped my phone (not hard, in-case) about the same time as my dropped signal problem pretty much resolved itself. So then I was like, hmm, maybe there IS something loose inside. I've tried gently shaking/jarring it here on my desk, coincidentally with the bars dropping back to just 1 as a result. But then again it may be coincidental as they are seeming to waiver A LOT. I just wondered if it is normal.
I never really stared at my old phone (Galaxy1) here at my desk but I'm almost positive it always had more than 1 bar at this same location and I never noticed it waiver like this one. But like I said I never had to make myself stare at it to check, either! lol Just wondering if someone knows a little more about cellphone signal 101 than me.
I have the issue of no 4G HSPA+ but I can get a strong LTE signal when in an LTE reception area. I'm wondering if you are in an LTE area and can get LTE? Where are you located?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I have noticed problems with my GN2 as well. Mine shows I have signal but my data stalls or doesn't seem to work as it should. I'm in an area where there shouldn't be any problems. Only seems to happen in non LTE areas. Whenever I have LTE signal this thing is blazing fast.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Update: Took the phone in. Basically, they had never heard of the issue with this phone. But...I walked away with a replacement. So far so good though I've had it only a few hours. The girl was very nice & explained even though I was borderline limit she would take care of me. I told her I received it Fri the 9th but she said they were basing the 14 days on the 7th! I said I didn't physically have it till the 9th! Jeeze. Moot point since she was going to take care of it anyhow but it just concerned me how (corporate) att could chop 2 days of my in-store return time!
So no, I'm not in LTE land, unfortunately. 3g H+ & E only though I can't complain about the coverage or speed. Good enough for me 4 sure.
The signal bars waivered quite a bit even while in the store. They said while some fluctuation is normal it shouldn't be as much as it was doing especially with the close proximity of the tower & good weather and especially while just sitting on the counter.
I downloaded the free app "No Signal Alert" from the Play Store. In just a few hours it recorded lost signal 4 times! (In a very good coverage area) [my first phone b4 the exchange] Consider using it if you want to see if you are losing signal like I was. Handy app!
Hopefully this is a good one. I know it sounds goofy but this phone seems to even move faster than the other. Weird. It will be interesting to hear if anyone else is having this problem. Maybe there was a bad batch of them or something? Like the Nexus I read about & their signal problems.

Haha im glad that they helped ya! No its not goofy or silly to think that one phones faster then another because no two phones are alike. LTE will be working fine but then I notice that once I connect to my home wifi and then either leave my wifi range or turn off wifi the LTE icon will show in the status bar and it will show that it's sending and receiving data but Web pages will stall and never load, Play Store will timeout, and SpeedTest.net will start up but the needle will freeze about 1/8 of the way up indefinitely. I've toggled data at this point but it never fixes it, I have to restart the phone at which point LTE works perfectly but once I get back on my wifi the cycle will repeat, this has happened reliably for about the past week.
Do you all think I have a defective radio or am I missing something? I'm still within my return Window and will probably swap it Friday.

Sounds very similar to how mine is acting. I'm wondering if it is the ATT smart WiFi app causing the problem. Shows data incoming and outgoing but stalls.

That's exactly how it's acting for me. I just now disabled the AT&T Smart WiFi app and after a quick restart and toggle test there was no problems, but I'm not sure if the problem will only pop up after I've been on wifi for a while. I'm going to see if it keeps doing it tomorrow.

Disabling Smart WiFi appeared to fix the problem.

What I noticed today is that when this same issue happens, with 4G icon and wifi icon both active, it occurs after I manually check for a firmware update within the system settings. The 4G icon doesn't go away until I reset the phone.
Also I manually deleted the all the AT&T boat ware apps before this was happening so the smart wifi app is not causing this for me.

Weird, if you get the issue and don't have the Smart WiFi app then it must be something else and it was coincidence that it worked normal for me today. I've only checked for firmware once (when I first got my phone) so it must be something else causing it. I'm hoping the multi view firmware will also have a fix for it.

I have a Galaxy S4 and the Note 3, I noticed that with the S4 I would pick up LTE at work all the time, with the note I get it sometimes and the signal is not nearly as strong, anyone else notice a weak signal on the Note? Even more annoying is the phone keeps dropping calls when I am on Wifi Calling, I know it is not the wifi network as my S4 has never dropped a call while using wifi calling on my wireless but this phone will drop it and suddenly it will show the person calling me again and I can pick up and resume the call however on the other person's end they never did anything, they never tried calling me back. I am going to return the phone this weekend and pick up another Note 3 to see if I have the same issues.

You def gonna have issues. New phone will not fix anything. Look around the forum and will see the issues everyone is having. No fix in sight.

I would think this issue and others will be resolved soon. Keep in mind it's a new phone and a new version of the os. I have had Samsung phones since the original galaxy and it seems with each new model comes the same issue with signal or gps but in the end a dev or software update fixes most. Just be patient.

I dont see any mention of people having calls dropped with wifi calling, is that a known issue?
I can deal with the crappy reception for now, its not terrible, just worse than my S4
I haven't had dropped calls but like you I come from an S4 and have the same signal and LTE issue, I exchanged my unit yesterday and still have the same issue. Hopefully it will be resolved with a quick update. With my first unit I did notice that it would not pickup wifi calling as fast as my S4.
I always get the WiFi unstable prompt. Meanwhile my note 2 is showing 1 bar from full..

My girl is having issues with hers, stock, uprooted. Dropped 3 calls this morning. Hope they find a fix soon.

i'm having issues with dropped wifi calls, dropped wifi (in general) and lower signal strength. ooh, also bluetooth glitches (doesn't always respond to bluetooth headset controls, notifications don't play through bluetooth headset).
***almost forgot! even though the Note 3 is listed as fully compatible with the Fitbit One, it won't sync. At all. The Fitbit app will tell you that your device isn't supported and take you to a page that says you have to have certain Samsung devices for it to sync. Like the Note 3.
as someone mentioned, new Samsung devices generally have issues that are resolved within a few updates.
I'm having some issues as well Nothing that can be Fix through an Software update . but I find the Call quality of the note 3 way better than my S4 and it's not even HD Voice !
I have the issue of texts not going through over wifi as eell

I'm with you on the call quality. I've never had such great convos on a cell phone. Both sides are crystal clear. I've used the Wi-Fi calling a couple of times, and I did get the unstable warning. When it was connected my calls were really good on Wi-Fi too. I don't know what Samsung did with this phone, but they did a great job for calls. I came from a GSII, and I thought that was pretty good, but the Note 3 makes it sound like a tin can now.
I was getting dropped calls via wifi calling even though I'm a few feet from my router. Happened so many times, I just gave up & turned off wifi calling.

I noticed there are three mics on this phone. Of course one is for speaking into, and one is noise canceling, but what is the third? Another noise canceling? I Googled it, but didn't really find info on how the three interact. One on top, one on bottom, and one on the bottom right on the side with the power button.

I get the WiFi unstable pop up too even though there is nothing wrong with my WiFi. I turned off the setting to automatically change connections because it kept turning off my WiFi and switching over to LTE. I have unlimited data so I just stopped using my WiFi at home. Wierd

I believe the third one, the one on the right is not a mic but humidity/temp? Sensors. Or something like that.

+1 I rely heavily on sending texts over WiFi because I have crap signal at my house. This is very frustrating.

I had an S4 also prior. I ran same tests back to back and found the Note 3 is a few db lower in reception than the S4. However I have not dropped a call yet.
Repot from work from a co-worker with a VZW version of the N3... said at work he was having some WiFi issues but none at home. WiFi at work is not that great even with great signals though. My phone will be here in a couple days. Will be able to compare side to side then.
