Hi,
My friend thought it would be hilarious to enter my lock pattern incorrectly too many times so my Nexus locked me out. Problem is, it won't accept my google login as correct. I know the details are 100% correct, because it works online, and I have searched everywhere and all I can find is people telling me that a hard reset is all I can do.
However, I am overseas and have been travelling for 5 months, and have over 2000 crucial pictures and videos that I just can't afford to lose. Does anyone know any way at all that I can pull off my media from the Nexus, because once I have them I don't care if I perform a hard reset on the phone. I don't care how complicated it is, I NEED some way to save those images!!!
Any help would be so greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Can't u just plug it in the computer and take em out???
And dude. U should've gotten DropBox. That's what ppl like u should have when having important stuff.
First question. Are u rooted???
If you're unlocked already...
Boot into a custom recovery (power off. Then power on while holding both volume buttons until it boots into the bootloader)
Then navigate to recovery (if you're using a custom one). If not:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery recovery.img
(change recovery.img to the correct file name)
TWRP/CWM/ETC will work.
You should have ADB access from this recovery.
Then use:
Code:
adb pull /data/media/ /SDCARD/
This will backup your phone's SD card files to a C:/SDCARD/ folder.
_______________
NO idea what that s*** means?
Use my guide to get a CWM.img and info on setting up ADB/Fastboot.
No I'm not already unlocked, I never wanted to mess with my phone in case some glitch happens and I lose everything. How ironic. Does any of that stuff you wrote work if the phone is not unlocked?
Also no I'm not rooted. I'm not a very tech-savvy guy, so is rooted and unlocked the same thing..? When I plug it into my computer, normally it would behave like a usb, but because it is locked it comes up with that weird picture of like a small cellphone with headphones, and while it appears in the file explorer it is just blank when i click on it.
thanks guys!!

Sorry, I'm always skeptical when people ask how to unlock a phone.
How are we sure It's actually your phone ?

Factory resetting wouldn't delete the sdcard it only deletes your Google info and apps. Boot into the stock android and preform a factory reset. This is what it normally does is wipe data which are the apps.

If you go into the settings and perform a factory reset through the settings menu it deletes EVERYTHING off the phone so I think the same can be assumed if you did a hard reset from outside.

Forgot you could do an adb pull of everything. Although he would need USB debugging enabled... which requires unlocking the screen if its not by default.
Isn't there a emergency dialer... has the OP googled for a bypass code maybe?

I actually think the one thing I do have tahts positive is that usb debugging is enabled. I did it like 5 months ago when i bought the phone because people told me it just makes the phone run faster, so i can assume it hasnt turned itself off.
and yeh i have tried absolutely everything, including all these weird tricks i found online such as trying to access notifications during a phone call, or rebooting and as it loads up you try pressing all the buttons like crazy (which doesnt work obviously because Gnexus has capacitive buttons). the only strange hitch i have found is if i open emergency dialer and immediately press the return button, it opens the slide to unlock screen. but from there, whatever i do it just takes me back to the google login page...
thanks for helping guys!

Yeah you can adb pull /data/media that will put your virtual sdcard on your computer. Just need to install the android SDK and you'll be good to go. If you want I can do this remotely via team viewer. Or you search "how to setup android SDK" that should give you a tutorial...

However I'm in NYC at the moment so I'm going to take all this stuff to try and find a guy in a computer store somewhere if he could do it. otherwise could i contact you sometime in the near future (could be between now or a couple of weeks) when i will have access to a PC and I could ask you to do it then??

I just got my T-Mobile Galaxy S II replaced today and when i turned it on for the first time, i noticed that it had no lockscreen, and no power button options. Instead, when u click the power button, it just shuts off the phone without warning. I am unrooted, nor have i ever been rooted on this phone. However i did take the SD card from my old rooted phone and put it in this one.. So maybe the rooted files have something to do with it. Im still not sure. If anyone has an answer it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i have seen this happen on an SII when the efs folder gets deleted from the root directory.
the phone you got as a replacement must have been used before and the original owner had removed this folder.
it contains "as far as i've read" very important files that the phone needs and for some reason are not replaced even after a factory reset.
get another one if you can

You should still be able to get into fastboot menu and recovery though through holding volume up and down and then the power button.....
Anyway, glad you back up again.
Was your phone hot? It's possible that safety throttle stuff shut down the phone and waited till it cooled off? I honestly don't know how the throttle craps works.

Hi.
ADD. MTsol reported he(she) flashed PRL with QPST without problem so you can use QPST if you have one.
Here's my second thread about PRL writing for our Optimus G with LGNPST.
I'm not sure if I can share the LGNPST here or not so just pm me if you need it.
You don't need root access for this but you MUST HAVE your OG's SPC.
Follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032431 thread and get SPC first.
You can always go back to original PRL by Updating PRL from your OG.
`System Settings -> System Updates -> Update PRL'

Let's get started.
1. Make sure your phone is Diag mode enabled. (you can find out how to from the link above.)
2. Open LGNPST.
3. Connect your OG to your PC as Charge Only mode.
4. You will see this screen, click PRL/ERI tab then check Write, NAM1, NAM2.

}
5. Load the PRL file you want to use. (You can find PRLs from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
or google it and you can find PRLs easily.
6. Press start.
7. It will ask your SPC.
8. Just wait... Your OG will reboot by itself.
9. Done. :good:
P.S. If LGNPST pops up an error MSG, just reboot your OG once then press ok button.
P.S.S. Dang.. picture size is too big... I'm gonna make them smaller later....

For instance, if you are on Sprint and you have awful 3G data, you can use a Verizon PRL and get much better 3G data.
Caveat is if you overdo it, Sprint can terminate your services/contract.

Thanks guys. I spend a lot of time at our cabin in the mountains. And Sprint sold the tower we used to use to Verizon. I just need to have an alternative for people to get ahold of me. (Old parents and the kids)
Whether it be with the phone to change, or a simple computer program that doesn't require me to have to look it up to change. Thanks again.
PS. Growing older is not for the weak.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Doesn't Sprint roam on Verizon towers anyway? Why would you need to force it?
Sprint got many calls about us losing service in that area and we were all told it was sold to Verizon and they had no plans to lease it from them. Unless they had more users for it.
So most people switched to Verizon and they all have great service. Those of us still on Sprint, our signal fades from 3g, to roaming, to nothing, all while standing in the same spot.

This phone was my dads until he got a new one, but he only has a limited amount of time to retrieve the data before it goes back to T-mobile or else he has to pay money for the broken phone core. It was dropped, and broke the digitizer but not the screen. As of now, the display doesn't work at all, but I can hear the phone turn on just fine. I have been trying to think of how I can access the internal storage without tearing the phone apart and getting to the storage directly(not sure if that would work either).
- Not rooted
- USB debugging not enabled. I thought I might be able to get to the storage via adb, but that will be useless without usb debugging activated.
If I need any more information, let me know.

Unfortunately, a solution was never found in that thread. Same exact problem though. The only difference is that my screen doesn't work at all. Completely black. The only thing that reacts to touch is the very very bottom of the screen below the capacitive buttons. Without USB debugging enabled, I'm in the same boat as the other users in that thread.
It's been a while since I used kies, so I don't remember much about it, but is there a way to make a backup using kies?

Is there a way to turn debugging on in stock recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well, I tested it myself and I was able to connect the phones to kies and create a backup without ever touching the device. I don't have any security lock on my phone though, so it might not work if the screen is locked? I'm also not sure if you can back up everything, or just photos, videos, etc. Hopefully at least that will help someone with the same problem who searched and found this thread...
Digitizer is completely screwed up. No responding to anything on the screen, and the screen is completely black. Even if I was able to get to stock recovery, I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. I'll look into Kies and see if it will work.
Well seeing as how stock recovery responds to side buttons, someone with stock recovery could map it out for you...
Also, can't you get to ADB from recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Is it possible to get to adb through recovery? I still don't have usb debugging enabled, so unless there is a way to activate it in recovery, then I don't know if it'll work.

If you're on the ND8 modem, try NDC. Or vice versa. I'll get back to you with the name of an app that *could* help.
Have you tried in the stock dialer ##72786# and then update PRL and Profile?
Those are about the only thing that might change your GPS performance unless you get into experimental file tweaking, but I can't help you there.
Is it the actual GPS that's the problem or the mobile data? If your mobile data is weak, Google Maps won't work with or without a GPS signal.
Personally, I doubt if any other ROM would make a difference.

I read some crazy stuff about GPS issues on the Web, when they first started being posted on XDA. One being that the issue related to loose screws. Said to take the back off the s3 and tighten the screws in the back (like 6?). Didn't bother to check into it, but stranger things I've seen/heard...

Im stock so idk what my modem is. Ive tried the prl and profile update several times. Its not the mobile data network cuz its ****ty even with wifi. It started acting up as soon as the phone updated to 4.4.2. "GPS" was changed to "Location" and everything related to the two just works like crap. Ive seen a lot of other ppl with the issues.

yes GPS was changed to Location but you have the option to use high accuracy, power saving or only the gps....and you will know what modem you have even on stock if you have sprint its ND8 if you have boost or virgin you have NDC
Ok. I have sprint. And ive tried all those settings. I guess to be more specific. It has no problem finding me. It has problems following me. So itll find me and set my route but when i hit start navigation itll take the arrow thingy that represents u and jump to another spot. Like itll put me in the middle of a field. And it wont matter if im driving or what my signal is. Itll stay in one spot. ive uninstalled app dates. Uninstalled google maps it self. Tried other navigation apps. And nothing.

just look at the additional options part when you make a reply...there is attach files and manage attachments button....and this is on the computer once you click manage attachments you can upload basically any file but some can be "to big" for the file type and wont upload but once you upload the pic press close window text and then submit your reply or preview it just to make sure it's there

I would do what I and others have suggested several times in extreme weird situations like this. Start back completely fresh:
Assuming you have a 16GB SPH-L710.
1. Backup everything you want to keep from your phone and internal storage to your SD card or computer.
2. Download the stock ND8 tar in the development thread (non-original). Extract the tar from the zip you download. Doubly check the MD5 hash of the tar to make sure what you downloaded matches what it's supposed to. You might need to run a search on that thread for MD5 to find it.
3. Download Odin v3.07 and the most recently available tar.md5 of Philz Touch Recovery.
4. Charge the phone full, turn off your phone and eject the SD card. Keep the SD card out for the rest of this.
5. Put your phone in Download mode: hold Home and Volume Down, and press and hold the power button at the same time until you see anything on the screen, then let go of all of them. It should say on the screen to press Volume Up "to continue". Do this.
6. Run Odin v3.07 on your Windows PC.
7. Plug the phone into the PC with a known good USB cable. After drivers load, Odin should show something like COM: 5, meaning it sees your phone.
8. Click PDA in Odin and direct it to the stock ND8 tar.
9. Uncheck Reboot in Odin.
10. Click Start. This'll take 5-10 minutes.
11. After done (Odin will say successful) unplug phone from cable and remove the phone battery to turn it off. Put the battery back in.
12. If you want to be able to root and make and restore backups, repeat steps 5 through 11 for the Philz Touch Recovery tar.md5.
13. If you want to root, boot into recovery (same as booting into Download mode but Volume Up instead of Down), click Advanced in Philz, and click the re-root option.
14. Before you do anything else with the phone including before putting the SD card in or installing apps, test the mobile data and GPS.
If any problems with mobile data, ##72786# in the stock TouchWiz dialer and then update PRL and Profile. That happens sometimes after Odining a stock tar or flashing a ROM.
If your problem is solved I would backup everything from your external SD card that's still removed and reformat it. That has solved some weird issues for myself and others, too.

I read a few other posts about terrible GPS, and it sounded like a bear to resolve. Never had a problem with GPS. Works perfectly (knock on wood). I went back through the posts and someone had mentioned that they fixed it by turning off Google location (in Google settings). They later turned Google location back on and (still) no longer had the problem...
Wondering if you had tried that?

If you mean by toggling the location tab on and off in the drop screen yes i have. Ive tweaked the settings and tried multiple things. No use

What I meant was to go into your Google settings app, and turn off "location"
