Galaxy Nexus Dropped in Water, Stickers not Red - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys.
Dropped my phone in the otter box into a sink tonight. Phone was barely wet.
Phone booted up and let me use it, no problem.
Speakers are shot, no audio whatsoever. When I try to make a call I hear them very staticky (sp?) and they can't hear me.
Long story short, I have TEC for my phone (They send out replacement device, no questions asked).
Will they check phone for water damage if the stickers are not tripped? I'm EXTREMELY paranoid.
Just wondering.

Another problem, phone is stuck in a bootloop so I can't restore to stock. I can't turn on USB Debugging...
thoughts?

I'm not sure about the bootloop part, but as for the speakers/mic those should start working again once the water has dried.

How can you tell if the speakers are shot if you can't boot?

Edit, sorry, I skipped to the end. If there's no evidence of water damage, Id try to get a replacement.

Yeah, problem is. Phone is rooted with custom ROM and they'll know the phone isn't stock.
I need to at least return to stock.

Edit: Nevermind, I just did the honest thing and made an insurance claim. Will they care that it's rooted? They shouldn't but idk. They may never know either because the ROM it's on is stock ICS. I was able to restore a Nandroid backup to Android Revolution HD. Idk though.

During the claim did you tell that it's rooted? Generally speaking, all carriers will take into consideration that the phone is has been tampered with. Cross your fingers and hope that the person who receives your phone has no clue what to look for.

It's an insurance claim. I paid $99 for a new phone. I didn't make a claim with Verizon. Asurion is a third party company.

You could have put it in a bowl of rice for a day or so.
I forgot my phone was in my pocket and walked right into a swimming pool with it. I put it in a bowl of rice for a few hours and it powered on but was stuck in a reboot loop. After leaving it in the rice another day or so it powered up and has worked (mostly) fine since. The camera module died and it seems to use a little more battery than before, but that's the full extent of the damage.

You shouldn't have turned the phone on if it got wet (even if it's in an otterbox case)
I had this happen to me last week. Horrible! Long story short. Girlfriend brought an open cup inside my car (which i didn't know about) i plugged my phone in for music, then set it in the cup holder. All i hear is (Buzzzz) coming from the car stereo and she was like "Did you just put your phone in my water?" -__-
So.. I had to leave it in a big bag of rice for it to dry. Took out the back plate, battery, and just left it there for a good 10+ hours. Opened it up. Still had some flicker issues with the screen. sound was muffled and mic was perfect.
BUT. after about 2-5 hours with using it like that. It was back to normal. This is such an amazing phone!

Doesn't matter what he did. He already made the insurance claim and paid his deductible. Asurion doesn't care what software is on it. Just as long as you pay the deductible they'll send you a replacement.

Please Help.

Okay so my daughter grabbed my phone and threw it in the toilet. I had an Otter Box on it and it boots up fine and goes to sense. It's rooted. The problem is when it loads up sense it automatically loads up Car Home. I can close that and everything seems to work fine. Whem I power down the device I click "Power Down" and it shuts off and automatically reboots. I cant get it to just power down and stay off. Can somebody please help me?

Yikes thats no good. I would immediately take the battery out. Put the phone in a ziploc bag with dry white rice. Leave it in there for a day or so, I would say. The rice will absorb some moisture. You want to get it dried out as much sa possible before you try powering it on again. You'r sd card might have been damaged too. If the phone still doesn't work right after thoroughly drying it out, you may be SOL. The water damage indicators are now activated, and the warranty will be voided. If you have insurance, it will cost you a hundred bucks, for the deductible.
The most important thing now is to stop trying to power it on until the phone is dried out. Things will short out.

Alright well I dont have rice. And my girlfriend has the car. I will try to go to the sprint store and see what I can do about replacing it. I need my EVO!! Oh and the cameras dont work now either. FML. I just got this phone about 3 weeks ago.

Yea, i hear ya. Who wants to keep their evo in a bag of rice overnight?! Just a warning though. There is a water damage indicator strip on the phone and the battery. That changes color when it gets wet, and thus that voids the warranty. I wouldn't expect Sprint to replace it for you, unless you have insurance, but then it'll cost a 100 dollar deductible. Good luck man, hopefully your sprint store has some cool employees.

and if you take it in rooted, they may not honor the warr, as well as the water indicator. eeek. seriously, try the rice trick. ive saved several of my daughters phones that way (I also dont buy her nice phones anymore. )
Yeah, Sprint will still look at it to determine if water damage was indeed the result of the phone acting up, even if the water markers show water contact. IF you can find rice, try that. If not, let it dry and / or take it in and hope for the best. Sorry to hear about it.
Number one rule when your phone gets wet: DO NOT TRY TO TURN IT ON!!! There is obviously water inside the phone. If you try to turn it on when its still wet, you will fry the boards. You needed to COMPLETELY dry the phone for at least 2 days, if not more, then try it.
Unfortunately since you tried to turn it on, you probably fried something on the board. Unless you have insurance, sprint wont fix a water damaged phone. And yes, they can tell it was water damaged.
Well It was on when she dropped it in the toilet So that alone probably fried it... so far everything has worked on it except the cameras and the fact that it reboots rather than shutting down.. Im not sure if I have insurance or not I have to check. But I dont want this phone if I can't use one of it's key features, It's camera's. I also don't want a phone that wont turn off. How much would it cost me to just buy another one out rite from the store without a contract, Because I already have a contract.

I found out that I have to file a claim affidavit and include a copy of my ID and fax it to "phoneclaim". What a bunch of B.S. I dont see why they make you go through so much **** just to use a service that YOU pay for. It's so ridiculous. FML

Yea, water damage sucks man. Not a lot you can do. You may find a reasonably priced Evo in your area on craigslist perhaps.

yea, they are actually cheap, if you can be patient. I got a used one little less than a month ago (got it used instead of new for a very specific reason), paid 225 for it. if you can wait 'til the end of the month, lots of people that need cash for rent will be getting rid of them. (just be carefull about ESN, of course)

wtf just happened to my phone's usb port?

just washed it off with a little soap and water and it went haywire. red LED came up. no water entered the port. moved connector around and LED went off. went to plug in and physically wouldn't connect to the charger. played around with it more and now it appears the connector is entirely damaged/not present. wtf? how can I get this replaced?

As for getting it replaced walk into a store and just tell them it will no longer connect. but don't tell them what you did seriously. and never do that again.

Then you're out of luck. Someone walking into the store and saying "Care sent me here for a replacement" is an automatic defensive stance. We hate when customers say that.
If you haven't just gotten very lucky from sprint about replacement..two things one and it's weird but works..drop phone in dry rice overnight..it absorbs any water from phone..then make sure that moisture tags aren't on the phone by battery connector..no expert by any means but this website and it's members have saved my hide many many times with tips and tricks..hope this helps.

Sprint exchanges these devices and sends the defective units to Samsung(with a receipt, which I don't have, but the guy I spoke with said he could either have one for me in three days or note the account appropriately). everyone wins.

No, you put a little bit of water on your screen and it created a short somewhere that effected the charging port. Let me guess ... you conveniently failed to tell the customer care Rep that you were cleaning the screen with water when the charging port stopped working.

Sorry. I had to fight through a little laughter. Obviously water is a big no no..... But, a few years ago I accidentally washed an old ipod left on my pants pocket. Took out of washer, put in a bowl of rice and covered with saran wrap. 2 days later was like new. Somehow the rice absorbs water even out of the tiniest places. Give it a shot, not much else to lose as of now right.

[Q] Stock Galaxy Nexus Bricked

Mr gf has a stock galaxy nexus. She got it less than 2 months ago. Today, she grabbed it from her bag, and it was off. She turned it on, it started to boot, then shut down. Now it won't respond. It doesn't turn on at all. We tried connecting it to a charger (wall charger and car charger) - no response. We tried connecting it via usb to her laptop - no response.
She took it to verizon and they took out the battery, mentioned the sensor should be red if it had water damage then said it has water damage (even though it was still white), entered into the notes on her account that it had water damage after contradicting themselves, and told her the only way to get a new phone is to pay full price for one.
I've been reading through posts, and it looks like other bricked phones have been flashed. She doesn't even know the first thing about doing anything like that. It's a stock phone. The only thing I can think of is she downloaded some maliscious app, but I wouldn't think it'd brick the phone. Anyone experience this or know what to do aside from contact her credit card company?
Sounds like you had an incompetent CS rep at Verizon. Call and ***** or go back in. If it really doesn't have water damage then it isn't her fault, and you should be getting a replacement.

If you can find someone else with a GNex.
It may just be that your USB port is broken and won't charge the dead battery?
But agreed...go in ASAP and be like "Dude would NOT listen to me. I'm aware that my account is flagged for having a water damaged phone. But look; there is clearly no water damage. And you can check as hard as you want. I did NOT tamper with the sticker or anything of that manner."
(Also make sure BOTH indicators are white...the one on the phone AND the battery)
Thanks. We'll see what they say. She tried calling in to customer service last night, and they told her she can use her insurance (pay $100) and get a replacement in TWO WEEKS, since they're out of stock.

i just pulled my battery and there's 2 spots. one on the battery and one right next to the battery pins. (its a vzw nexus)

Tips for drying a htc one x?

I dropped my phone a bucket of water today. Got it up quite quickly and dryed it with compressed air. It turned it self on and off during a period, but now it seems to work fine. But now I have moist behind the camera lens. Any tips for removing moist there?
Leave the phone (Switched off) in a container full of uncooked rice in a warm area. Should do the trick.

Turn the phone off completely from fastboot and put it in a bag of rice, sealed up for 3 days. Do not turn it back on until 3 days have past or you will further damage your phone.

I have the same problem,but worse. I dropped my OneX in a stream of heavy rain water by the road and its been in the water for about 10 minutes while i was searching for it all over. I was glad I found it and in the haste and panic because its just a couple of weeks old,i pressed the power button,to find it working alright,then the signal reception cut off,i unlocked the screen,turned the airplane mode on. I could do all this and then it went off. I took the Sim out,rushed home, immersed it in a bowl of rice. Would that do? Please help

The most important thing is to NOT power it on again, not for atleast 3-5 days, i'd let it be off for 5 days, in a bag of rice standing on an element(the heat stuff you have in every room). If you turn on the phone before it's all dryed, you will probably damage the internal hardware, you know electric stuff doesn't like water that much.

Yes i got that. But i was thinking if going up to the HTC service center would help. Wouldnt they disemble and dry it up? I dont mind being charged but i just want it to work

Well Ive called up the HTC support and they asked me to go to the center where they will diagnose it and tell me whats what.
All i can hope now is that they dont reject for service on my face
The problem esp. with the HOX is that since the battery is sealed in the unit, its not easy to disconnect when needed. So by the time one realises that its been under water, damage might have already been done as the circuits still get a charge from the battery. So like others said, its better to leave it alone in a bowl of rice for a day or so and pray.
Lets hope HTC do the needful and fix your phone...

Exactly. The thing i admired when i bought is what turned to be a disadvantage. The concealed nature of the phone left me worried sick.
Its been in rice for 16 hrs now and Im praying every minute. Hope HTC does whats needed. Il keep you posted. Thanks for all the help!
Hello! I went to the HTC service center after having the OneX in rice for 36hrs. The guy said they cant open it here and so it has to go to the headquarters of India for service and said he'll get back to me in a week or so. Upon asking he told me that a smiliar water damage issue came up to them and when they sent it to the Headquarters,the Head sent a new phone altogether to the guy. Now I have a bit of hope. Do you think i can?
They might send you a new phone. You will probably need to pay for it.

You were right. HTC called up and told me that the repair cost would be about 400$ and i bought it for 630$.Theyve told me that the battery,touch screen,the motherboard are all gone. Guess its just hard luck :crying:.

One last thing. HTC said that the battery,main board, the lcd,the touchscreen are all gone so all will be replace but at the cost i mentioned before. Do you think its worth going for? Considering it will became as good as a new one..?
400 is steep you might be better selling it as damaged and buying a new one

Thats unfortunate. I remember having a nokia (when color screen was pretty new) go in the washing machine. When is started it up afterward only 1/3 of the screen were visible. In due time function by function returned when the phone dried out and after ~3 days it was back to perfect state

If that happens,will it be worth it?

My missus dropped her iPhone in a bucket of bleach, so it was found 3 hrs later, had to rinse it with water, strip it down, get a tub of rice and put the parts stripped down into tub, the rice draws all the moisture out of the parts. Put it back together after 48 hours and after 1 week everything on screen was A okay, good as new. Always worth doing this yourself to save Money, and insurance claim rise.

Broken screens WITH warranty - will they repair?

After having the phone and dropping it several times, usually only when getting out of the car, it has finally cracked tonight. Before it usually had no damage done.
So after reading, even though I have full warranty on it, they do not repair cracked phones. I did have it replaced before for free when I bricked it though.
So, if I purposely bricked the phone, would it be possible to get the free warranty replacement to get a new phone without a cracked screen?
Maybe if your lucky but no they wouldn't even change my headphone port at the store in my city because my screen is cracked

Damnit. I can't stand cracked screens (first world problems) but hey, I guess i'm leaving in January for Air Force anyways. But i'll give them a call anyways tomorrow.
I don't think they will do anything. The sprint stores will look for anything to push it to an insurance claim. My daughters LG 's battery is not holding a charge as it use to. We went to the store to get another one under warranty. The battery's moisture sticker showed exposure, but the phone one did not. Since battery showed red they too me to use insurance to replace it.
Just by living in FL, your phone gets exposed to humid conditions all the time.
Agreed.. they're probably going to kick you over to TEP or Asurion if you have it. (Not sure how it works for Sprint, wish I even had an option...)

That's what they did. Guess I have to deal with a broken screen. I was going to keep this phone until the S4 anyways.
